Jim Caviezel is returning to the role that defined his career — and according to him, it’s not just acting, it’s more like spiritual warfare. More than 20 years after The Passion of the Christ stunned audiences and became one of the highest-grossing R-rated films of all time, Mel Gibson is back behind the camera for a sequel. Titled The Resurrection of the Christ, production is officially set to begin this August in Rome, with a tentative release date sometime in 2026. And yes, Caviezel will once again portray Jesus — thanks to a little help from modern technology, which might be the industry's equivalent of praying for a miracle and receiving one
“You want me to be Jesus again, don’t you?” Caviezel recalled asking Gibson. “I’m all in.”
Now 56, Caviezel will be digitally de-aged to portray Christ at 33, using the same kind of tech pioneered in films like The Irishman,...

Mel Gibson’s 1995 five-time Oscar-winning action war epic film is heading to a new streaming home very soon. Gibson starred in and directed Braveheart, which chronicles the story of William Wallace (Gibson), a thirteenth-century farmer and Scottish hero who battles against the tyranny of King Edward I of England. Braveheart, which won the Best Picture Academy Award in 1996 and earned Gibson a Best Director Oscar, will stream on Paramount+ beginning April 1.
Arguably one of the greatest period war films of all time, Braveheart quite possibly gets better the more one watches it. The movie focuses on the exploits of Wallace during the First War of Scottish Independence - and who can forget that iconic line uttered by Gibson’s Wallace: “They may take our lives, but they’ll never take our freedom!”
A Critical and Box Office Success
Although not necessarily known for its historical accuracy, Gibson does deliver a...

Mel Gibson is finally making a sequel to The Passion of the Christ, and just trust us, it’s going to be anything but dull. The follow-up to the 2004 blockbuster, officially titled The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection, isn’t just about Jesus’ return.
A scene from The Passion of the Christ (Credits: 20th Century Studios)
It’s taking a plunge into hell, fallen angels, and some seriously ambitious storytelling. Oh, and Gibson himself called it an “acid trip.” The first movie was a cultural phenomenon, especially in the U.S., where it became a hit with evangelical audiences.
It also raked in over $600 million globally, making it one of the most successful religious films ever. But it didn’t come without controversy—accusations of antisemitism and criticism of its violent depiction of Jesus’ final hours stirred a lot of debate.
Now, nearly 20 years later, Gibson is back to continue the story.

Mel Gibson reveals The Passion of the Christ 2 will depict hell and fallen angels, revealing his filming plan and thoughts on his ideal Jesus actor. The upcoming Passion of the Christ 2 has had many details kept under wraps since it was first announced, however the aftermath of Jesus' death was guaranteed. This included the reaction of his followers in the three days before his resurrection, alongside his resurrection in general likely being explored. However, concrete details were not made available, with the movie having been in development since June 2016, according to Gibson's co-writer, Randall Wallace.
Speaking on The Joe Rogan Experience (via Deadline), however, Gibson offered details about The Passion of the Christ 2, revealing the "very ambitious" narrative he's crafted alongside his brother, Donal Gibson, and Wallace. The filmmaker explained how the movie follows "the fall of the angels to the death of the last apostle," depicting events that happen in Sheol.

Can you believe it? Mel Gibson's Braveheart premiered 20 years ago today in the Us, fast becoming a box office hit, a multi-Oscar winner and genuine pop culture phenomenon.
To celebrate the '90s classic's big birthday, we dive into Braveheart trivia to find out who nearly took on the role of William Wallace, the role originally earmarked for Sean Connery and which celebs count the Gibson flick among their all-time favourites.
1. Randall Wallace came up with the idea for the film while on holiday in Scotland in 1983. Visiting Edinburgh Castle, he asked a tour guide to tell him the story behind the statues of William Wallace and Robert the Bruce. The guide did just that, and the rest is movie history!
2. Terry Gilliam turned down the chance to direct Braveheart after being offered the role while he was working with Gibson on an abandoned film version of A Tale of Two Cities.

It's being reported that Mel Gibson's brother, Donal Gibson, is interested in voicing one of the roles that made his brother famous, and he's even recorded a vocal test for the upcoming Mad Max videogame release.
The Avalanche Studios developed game of Mad Max will, after a fan outcry, feature an Australian voice for the titular hero, and if things go his way, it could well be Donal Gibson. And, by the sound of it, he'd probably do a sterling job going from his test performance, which you can listen to via AusGamers (link below).
However, Donal Gibson isn't, at the time of wiring, officially involved in the project, and Avalanche has issued no comments, but it would make a...
