The latest revealed DC Studios television project is a "Booster Gold" TV show from David Jenkins (creator of "Our Flag Means Death"), which has been ordered to pilot at HBO Max (per Deadline). Booster Gold (created by Dan Jurgens in 1986), aka Jon Michael Carter, is a time-traveling superhero from the future. Though he hails from the 25th century, his story is familiar: he's a jock who peaked in high school (being caught gambling on your own games will do that to you). So, he travels back in time in hope of becoming a big fish in a smaller pond.
Though Booster is dense and a self-promoting gloryhound, he's not a bad guy. He's similar to James Gunn's take on Peter Quill/Star-Lord and so should fit naturally into Gunn's new DC Universe if his pilot moves forward. "Booster Gold...

While Creature Commandos was the first DC Studios project set in the new Dcu, it was down to Superman to set the tone and lay the groundwork for a new era of storytelling this past weekend. Now, it's fair to say James Gunn succeeded.
While the filmmaker wanted Superman to be an enjoyable standalone experience (not bogged down by setting up whatever comes next), he still dropped plenty of hints about where the franchise is headed, and it's those we're taking a closer look at today.
From the place of Metahumans in this world to intriguing new status quos for characters like Lex Luthor and Ultraman, we're going to take you through the ways this movie potentially teases what's next.
You can find out how Superman set up the Dcu's future by clicking on the "Next"/"View List" buttons below.

It’s been more than 80 years since Superman flew off the pages of “Action Comics #1,” and introduced readers to the then-described “Champion of the Oppressed.” The hero has gone on thousands of adventures since his 1930s debut — “Action Comics” alone celebrated its thousandth issue in 2018.
James Gunn’s “Superman” feels like some of these comics flew off the page, adapting everything beautiful, inspiring and outright goofy about the Man of Steel. If you left “Superman” wanting more, check out some of these stories that inspired the Dcu debut.
This list will have no spoilers for “Superman” (2025). If it wasn’t in a trailer, it won’t be mentioned here.
“All-Star Superman” by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely
“All-Star Superman” should be thought of as the comic book equivalent of the Christopher Reeve/Richard Donner “Superman” movie: there’s nothing quite like it, and it set an immovable gold standard going forward.

Tod Smith, a longtime comic book artist perhaps best known for his runs on Omega Men, Vigilante, Peacemaker, and Darkhawk, passed away last month at the age of 72, following a long illness.
Smith originally set out to become a musician, attending the Berklee School of Music after graduating high school in the early 1970s. He was a rock and roll guitarist during the mid-1970s in the Rhode Island area, but he soon discovered that the area wasn't exactly ideal for a freelance guitar player, so when he was 25, some friends of his sent him clippings for the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art, which had only recently launched a year earlier. He attended the school for a year and a half, and then moved over to a Dick Giordano/Frank McLaughlin workshop in Connecticut. He happened to catch the workshop during its ten-week section on inking, so...

Jason Momoa's casting as Lobo might be perfect in terms of his personality and physique, but a lot of fans are still eager to see what the actor will actually look like in the character's costume and prosthetics, and how close to the comics his iteration will be. Momoa will bring the charismatic DC Comics anti-hero/villain to life in live-action in 2026's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which stars Milly Alcock as the titular hero and cousin of Superman (David Corenswet). You could argue that many fans are more hyped about seeing Momoa's Lobo than they are the actual movie. But, the film still needs to overcome the hurdle of the character's live-action design. Thankfully, Jason Momoa promises that we won't be disappointed.

You mostly know DC Comics for their superhero books, but they've published a fair share of Western comics too: "All-Star Western," "Weird Western Tales," etc. Scarred gunslinger Jonah Hex sometimes crosses over with DC superheroes too. But one 1997 comic went even further out West and turned the Justice League into cowboys: "Justice Riders," scripted by Chuck Dixon and drawn by J. H. Williams III.
In the frontier town of Paradise, the outlaw Felix Faust pulls a daring escape that destroys the town and kills deputy Oberon. Sheriff Diana Prince sets out for revenge and gathers up a posse to bring justice: Kid Flash, Hawkman, Booster Gold, Blue Beetle, and Martian Manhunter.
Wait, why these characters? Because it's based on the contemporary Justice League line-up. In the late 80s through the mid-90s, "Justice League" mostly starred more obscure characters. That...

Superman star Nathan Fillion confirms that the bowl cut won't be the only comic-accurate thing about his character Guy Gardner, including his, at times, off-putting personality. After years of being the top fan choice to play Hal Jordan, Fillion is finally putting on the Green Lantern ring, but as the lesser-known, fan-favorite Guy Gardner. His Green Lantern has already made an impression, based on his brief shot in the trailer sporting the worst bowl cut imaginable. Gardner is a very different Green Lantern from what audiences are more likely familiar with, and it sounds like Superman will embrace that.
While speaking to TV Guide about Season 7 of his hit television series, The Rookie, the conversation, naturally, shifted to Superman. Fillion was asked what will separate his version of the Green Lantern from past incarnations, and his answer is just what fans want to hear. Fillion confirms that Gardner will not be the best guy,...

The upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is being directed by Craig Gillespie and scripted by Ana Nogueira. It’s based on the comic series of the same name, written by Tom King and illustrated by Bilquis Evely. After her father is murdered and the one responsible is still out there, a young alien girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll seeks out Supergirl to help her on a vicious mission. She wants revenge, and if Supergirl doesn’t help her, she’ll do it herself, whatever the cost.

Gunn did not leave the actor on read, responding with, "Dude I've said you should be Lobo for years, no lie." One of the more interesting hero love lives belongs to Green Arrow. Oliver Queen is best known for dating and eventually marrying Black Canary Dinah Lance, but it cannot be overlooked that the billionaire has always had a complicated playboy lifestyle. These two have been together for so long that it may feel like they were always together, but that's far from the case.
There were times when Oliver found himself either pining for someone else when he wasn't with Black Canary. Honestly, there were times when he found himself lusting over other suitors even while he was with Dinah. Sometimes, the two would have a rocky relationship and sometimes, Ollie was the farthest from a faithful man. Green Arrow's faithfulness and his battles with fidelity were once a constant character flaw for him, but it also gave birth to numerous fascinating love interests who weren't Black Canary.

While Bruce Banner has spent his life trying to control the Hulk's violent outbursts, Marvel knows that it takes more than Banner to calm down. Between Banner’s many alters, every Hulk has developed their own tastes and preferences, but there is one tactic that has been shown to be incredibly effective. Unfortunately, this move is likely far too Nsfw for Marvel to ever do again.
As part of an r/comicbooks thread about memorable Nsfw comic moments, several fans cited an incredible example from 2005's Defenders #3 – written by Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis, with art by Kevin Maguire – in which Hulk has an unexpectedly amorous encounter with Dormammu's sister Umar.

Lobo is currently making headlines thanks to the recent announcement that Jason Momoa will be playing him in the new DC cinematic universe. Yet more casual DC Comics fans might not be as familiar with the last Czarnian, and they may be looking to read his best adventures in the original comics before he makes his appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in 1983, Lobo made his first appearance in Omega Men #3. Sean Gunn may voice Weasel and G.I. Robot in the animated series Creature Commandos, but regarding live-action, DC fans are going to recognize him as the DC Universe's Maxwell Lord. The character was previously played by Pedro Pascal in 2020's Wonder Woman 1984, although Gunn isn't worried about stepping into the role so soon after Pascal.
During an interview with The Kristian Harloff Show (via X), Gunn opened up about how his take on Maxwell Lord would differ drastically from Pascal's version in WW84. "I can tell you that the one obvious thing is it's me playing the role. It doesn't just mean I'm going to give a different interpretation," the actor started. "Your own body is the vessel for what you're doing, so obviously...no one is gonna confuse me and Pedro Pascal's performance. So we're obviously going to do something different."

I feel like Marvel's best comic book event doesn't get enough credit. I'm not usually one to use such a superfluous adjective like "best" as such a definitive statement, especially when stories are so subjective. Everyone reading this and everyone writing about comics has their own favorite Marvel storyline they consider the best. Each answer would be different, but equally valid.
However, I'll make the exception here because I think that an argument can be made for Annihilation being Marvel's best crossover, not necessarily because it has the best story, but because it has the most important story in Marvel's library. After all, stories themselves are subjective, and if we talk about the best-written story from Marvel, we'll be here all day just arguing with each other.
That being said, it's far more interesting to me to argue for what is the most significant story in Marvel's catalog. I think...

Aquaman is dead. Long live... Lobo?
That's the only way to read today's news that Jason Momoa has officially been cast as DC's profane counterpart to Deadpool. The bounty hunter character first turned up in comics back in 1983 as a villain but became a fan favorite as an antihero in the 1990s. Momoa has been rumored to be playing the character since James Gunn and Peter Safran became the heads of DC's film division, and it's a character he seems perfect to portray, especially after his unhinged performance in "Fast X." Lobo's co-creator, Keith Giffen, conceived of the Czarnian as a ludicrously violent parody of The Punisher, so he was shocked to watch the character evolve into a beloved mercenary with little regard for human or alien life. Since then, there have been attempts to bring the character to the big screen, but it's only now, under the soon-to-launch DC Universe series of movies,...

After years of rumors and wishful thinking from fans and Jason Momoa himself, Jason Momoa has been cast to play the Main Man, Lobo.
Jason Momoa posted to his Instagram, an image of a quote from himself back in 2023 during an interview he did with Fandango. The quote reads:
“So Lobo was… I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,’” he said at the time. “I mean, listen. If they call and ask me to play him, it’s a f*ck yeah. I haven’t received that call, so I don’t want to put any fake news out there, but if they ever call me and ask to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”
The caption was simple: “They called.

It's official: Jason Momoa is returning to the DC Universe. Not as Aquaman, mind you, but as a legendary villain who has been threatening to make his big screen debut for a long, long time. The "Game of Thrones" and "Fast X" star is now officially set to play the baddie Lobo in the upcoming "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow." This news was not only reported by Deadline, but it was also confirmed by the actor personally.

Get ready to go from calling him "my man" to The Main Man as Jason Momoa returns to the DC Universe, but not as Aquaman. Jason Momoa is set to take on the role of Lobo, an intergalactic bounty hunter in DC Comics for James Gunn's Dcu. This news probably isn't surprising to many fans, as Momoa had been rumored for the role of Lobo in the Dcu since James Gunn and Peter Safran were announced as the new heads of the Dcu – they even hinted at it during the press tour for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
Deadline reports that Jason Momoa is set to play the DC anti-hero Lobo in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa previously played Arthur Curry/Aquaman in the Dceu, appearing in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Justice League, Aquaman, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, with cameo roles in The Flash and Peacemaker.

Jason Momoa is staying in the DC Studios family.
The actor, who previously appeared as Aquaman in several DC comics films including two standalones, will co-star as Lobo the intergalactic bounty hunter in the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.” Milly Alcock plays the title role, with direction being handled by Craig Gillespie. It’s currently scheduled to start shooting next month in London and Iceland and will be released on June 26, 2026.
Momoa had long lobbied to play the character, basically an outer space biker and who was created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen in “Omega Men” #3 back in June 1983. Over the years, various attempts at giving the character his own film have been mounted. In 2009 Guy Ritchie took on the project, with Brad Peyton and Joel Silver attempting the project in 2012 (with Dwayne Johnson in talks to play the character). As recently as 2018, Michael Bay looked to make the movie,...

Jason Momoa is trading in Aquaman for the chance to play his dream DC character. The actor has announced that he will finally get the chance to portray his favorite comic book character, Lobo, in DC Studios' Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Momoa confirmed the casting in an Instagram post that included a screenshot of a previous comment he had made about wanting to play Lobo: "So Lobo was…I collect comics, and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I’m like, ‘Hello? It’s the perfect role,' said the actor. Momoa went on to say that should DC come around asking him to play Lobo, it would be 'a f*ck yeah.'" Jason Momoa is going from the ocean deep to the galactic highway when he steps into Lobo’s boots for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Momoa has wanted to play Lobo for years, and his dream is finally coming true. Lobo, created by Roger Slifer and Keith Giffen, debuted in Omega Men #3 circa 1983. Lobo is a Czarnian bounty hunter who rides a motorcycle through the cosmos in search of his marks. Inspired by characters like Punisher and Wolverine, Lobo became DC’s poster boy for violence as fans warmed to his reckless nature and “rude dude” attitude.
This attempt is not the first at bringing the cigar-chomping Czarnian to the silver screen. Previously, Guy Ritchie and Brad Peyton tried to bring Lobo front and center, with Dwayne Johnson eyeing the role in Peyton’s version. Michael Bay also attempted to adapt the character, but the concept stalled before taking to the stars.

After much anticipation, the trailer for Superman has finally arrived. The trailer is filled with incredible imagery and a powerful new rendition of John Williams's classic Superman theme music. One particular image has caught people's attention, and it isn't Superman, Lois Lane, or even the adorable Krypto. No, it is Nathan Fillion in a terrible bowl cut shooting out a green light from his finger, letting the audience know this is a Green Lantern but not the one most people are familiar with.
Fillion is playing Guy Gardner, a prominent Green Lantern comic series member but not widely known by a general audience. Aside from a brief cameo in Young Justice and a few episodes on the short-lived Green Lantern series, Guy Gardner certainly has not gotten the attention...

The first trailer for James Gunn's "Superman" is here, but more heroes than David Corenswet's Man of Steel appear. After all, this movie is launching the new silver screen DC Universe. We'd known from previous casting news which heroes would be appearing in "Superman," and the trailer showed some of them in costume. Among them is Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, one of the many heroes named Green Lantern.
Fillion is a friend of director James Gunn who often appears in his movies. No surprise the actor has a supporting part in "Superman," but Fillion as a Green Lantern is a casting choice that has a lot of history.
In the early 2000s, Nathan Fillion was a popular choice to play Hal Jordan in a "Green Lantern" film; with people even making fanmade trailers with Fillion in the role.

Booster Gold has a reputation for being "the greatest hero you never heard of", but despite his relative obscurity compared to giants like Superman and Batman, he's led plenty of great stories over the years. He got his start as a solo hero and went on to join the founding roster of the Justice League International, shepherding in an enhanced new era for the classic team. Now, Booster Gold is joining James Gunn's Dcu, finally putting this overlooked hero on the map.
With Booster Gold's Dcu debut on the horizon, there are certain stories that should inform how he's written, as they encapsulate his essence more than any others. From his original time-hopping travels to his tenure on different iterations of the Justice League, Booster Gold's decades-long history of superhero endeavors is teeming with potential inspiration for his televised adaptation. While Star-Lord is best known for his portrayal in the MCU, the character has a significantly longer history in the comics. As much as the MCUs Star-Lord dingey red duster and the rarely used mask look fun on screen, the comics have introduced significantly more interesting costumes over the years. For a man who loves his vintage music, Peter Quill knows how to keep his fashion fresh.
Throughout his long tenure as a pirate turned galactic protector, Star-Lord has adopted many looks, each adapting to reflect his place within the galaxy. While he was originally a self-entitled cocky jerk, and still is to a degree, hes long since stepped up and embraced with open arms the variety of life and culture the galaxy has to offer. While his tenure in the MCU may soon be over, his reign, and his many many costumes, in the comics are far from being over.

Despite his demise in Avengers: Endgame, Thanos could return and wreak havoc on the Multiverse again if the opportunity arises. Josh Brolin, who portrayed the terrifying supervillain, suggests he could portray Thanos in Avengers: Secret Wars, though the character "has to fit" the story being told.
Speaking with Collider at New York Comic Con, Brolin addressed the possibility of Thanos appearing in Secret Wars, the anticipated Phase Six closer and Multiverse-collapsing event. However, Brolin thinks the right narrative needs to be introduced for a Thanos comeback to make sense. "Im not kidding Theres a thing with playing Thanos. 2025's Superman film is easily the comic book film everyone has their eyes on next year, not just because it will reintroduce the iconic superhero to movie-going audiences but also because it will formally launch a new DC-shared universe. The upcoming film is also set to introduce several characters from the greater Dcu and Superman's world in the film. One of the notable characters who will appear in the film is Krypto the Superdog.

First established as National Publications in the 1930s, DC Comics has accumulated an impressive history of comic book stories, thanks to characters like Batman and Superman. Every decade has brought its own unique style to the industry, and nowhere has that been as true as for DC. Where some decades were marked by grim and gritty tales, others were more experimental. When it comes to the 2000s, DC underwent a period of optimism, revivals, epic sagas and fan-favorite creative teams.
Where the 2000s were viewed by some as a slump for Marvel Comics, DC's books from the era have been looked back on almost unanimously as one of the publisher's best eras. Although the company had its share of misses and forgotten stories, few decades in comic history have been as memorable as DC's winning streak at the start of the 21st century. Many of these stories remain some of the company's best-sellers even today.

Joker: Folie à Deux has had a disastrous weekend at the box office and while that does hurt the DC brand, the sequel was made without any involvement from DC Studios whatsoever.
James Gunn did have some input on The Penguin and will take on a similar role for Matt Reeves' The Batman - Part II. However, the filmmaker's vision for the Dcu itself is very specific.
He appears to be pulling from several comic book runs and eras, though the Justice League International series from the late 1980s seems to have played a major role in what we'll see from Superman next summer.

James Gunn is gearing up to start his DC Universe, first with this year's animated show "Creature Commandos" — which will hopefully overcome the limitations of corporate synergy to deliver something unique and visually interesting — and then with the cleanly titled "Superman" in 2025. So far, Gunn has been doing his best to reassure fans that his take on the DC mythos will be respectful to every aspect of the comics — the uplifting, the heartwarming, the funny, the weird, and the silly alike. He's bringing back Jimmy Olsen, while the new Superman suit looks like his mom made it (and even includes the iconic red trunks). Elsewhere, the DC Universe's take on Batman will finally introduce the Bat-family to the big screen in live-action.

Director James Gunn’s upcoming “Superman” (formerly “Superman: Legacy) will be packed with DC Comics deep cuts, among them Superman and Supergirl villain Maxwell Lord, played by Sean Gunn.
Maxwell Lord isn’t a particularly well known villain, but he’s shown up in a surprising number of DC Comics adaptations in recent years — Pedro Pascal previously played him in “Wonder Woman 1984,” and Peter Facinelli portrayed him early on in The CW’s “Supergirl.”
TheWrap caught up with Sean Gunn at FanExpo Chicago on Friday, and naturally had to find out how he’s approaching the character. Gunn told us that he isn’t referring back to those earlier portrayals.
“I can’t talk too much about it. I can say that my my brother James and I did discuss… what reference materials from the canon were relevant to to my process,” he said, adding that “I love doing my own music.

The Justice League. The Teen Titans. Heck, even the Outsiders. Most comic readers know these superhero teams from DC Comics, and can probably name at least a few key members, if not favorite stories.
But for a while in the 1980s, one team topped them all, rivaling even Chris Claremont’s X-Men run for comic shop supremacy: Legion of Super-Heroes won over readers with its futuristic space opera and its cast of unique characters.
The basic premise of the Legion of Super-Heroes is simple. 1000 years in the future, a group of superpowered teens take inspiration from Superboy and become heroes, most using powers they gained from their native planets. Like the best Superman stories, Legion tales tend to be optimistic and hopeful, certain that humanity can overcome its problems and work toward a better tomorrow.
But actually reading the Legion can be a bit daunting. Because of the future setting,...

James Gunn will soon be launching his version of the DC Universe with David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, and with this will come along multiple other characters that were previously either left in the dark or left unexplored. One of these widely speculated characters includes Lobo as well, the villain widely rumored to be embodied by Jason Momoa.
Corenswet in and as Superman. | @jamesgunn/Ig.
While Momoa has been vocal about his heartiest desire to play this unhinged interstellar mercenary and bounty hunter, nothing has been confirmed about even the character’s debut in this respective rebooted super-verse. But this villain is actually so iconic with some truly scary powers that seeing him face Corenswet’s Man of Steel is all we want to see after this.
Lobo is Scarier Than Fans’ Wildest Imaginations
Of all the comic book characters in comics, perhaps none holds as scary powers as Lobo.

Superheroes like Black Hammer and Ambush Bug showcase the weirder, more experimental side of comic book storytelling. Creeper and Doom Patrol offer strange, offbeat takes on superheroes, embracing creativity and oddity. Funnyman and The Boys satirize traditional superhero tropes, showcasing dark, absurdist narratives.
Since the Golden Age of Comics was created by the introduction of Superman, the superhero genre has dominated print, with Batman and Spider-Man spearheading the comics industry's success. While the average superhero comic takes itself fairly seriously, at least as far as its own continuity and narrative goes, others can be just plain bizarre. Whether it's through the exploration of unusual power levels or unconventional heroes, these titles are loved for their oddities.
For many readers, the weirder the comic book, the better it is, and the more skillfully a creator can subvert or experiment with the genre, the more credit is due. While some of these...

Absolute Power corrupts absolutely.
That statement almost always holds true in the real world but not often in the world of mainstream superheroes, especially those published by DC Comics. No matter how bleak things get, the denizens of the DC Universe can always look up in the sky to find Superman, their shining beacon of hope.
That is, until Absolute Power, the new DC crossover event from the all-star comics team of writer Mark Waid and artist Dan Mora, shoots Superman through the heart. To make matters worse, the Justice League has disbanded, leaving Earth without its greatest heroes.
“I really expected Absolute Power to be a Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman story,” Waid admits to Den of Geek. “And instead, it became very much a book about a bunch of different heroes, [including] Dreamer, Jon Kent, and Nightwing.”
Waid is an award-winning industry veteran who initially worked at DC Comics as...

Shazam shines in team-ups with a moral compass like Superman, showing he's on the same level as the Man of Steel. "Thunder and Stars" comic in '98 serves a heartwarming break from '90s comics, highlighting Captain Marvel's patriotism. Shazam's team-ups with various DC heroes, including Superman, establish him as a true equal with magical powers.
Created by Otto Binder and Cc Beck to serve as Fawcett Comics' magical counterpart to Superman, Shazam has become one of the most wholesome superheroes since the Golden Age. Having existed in the Dcu since the 1970s, the hero has teamed up with a wide variety of the publisher's best characters, from street-level vigilantes to Superman himself.
Shazam is often held up to Superman, with many of the two heroes' fans speculating as to who would prevail in a no-holes-barred fight. In truth, both heroes have a great deal in common with one another,...

Warning: Spoilers for Green Lantern: War Journal #10!
Guy Gardner, often known as a joke, may be the unexpected savior of the Green Lantern Corps. DC Comics is repositioning Guy Gardner from a joke to a strategic hero, potentially changing his character. Gardner's recent heroic acts may lead to a revitalized image, reshaping the Green Lantern Corps and his role in it.
The biggest clown in the history of both the Justice League and the Green Lantern Corps may end up being the Dcu's last hope. As prestigious as the position can be for some, not all Green Lanterns are created equal. Several Lanterns are revered and respected in the larger scope of the universe, while someone like Guy Gardner is best known for getting punched in the face by everyone he meets.
Guy Gardner may finally be on his way to getting some respect, starting with Green Lantern: War Journal #10 by Phillip Kennedy Johnson,...
