When Paramount+ launched in the U.S. and territories around the globe, it seemed the Star Trek franchise would thrive for the years to come.
But after the end of Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Picard, the more likely scenario is that these shows are too expensive in the current TV climate.
The streaming platform made the controversial announcement Thursday that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will also be decommissioned.
(Paramount Plus/Screenshot)
Fortunately, there’s some good news for fans.
Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 is set to premiere on Thursday, July 17, meaning fans still have three seasons of the series to go.
(Michael Gibson/Paramount+)
Three seasons’ notice is pretty neat for an end date announcement, and it sounds like there will be time to craft a conclusion.

Looking for a new sci-fi/fantasy show to binge? You can't go wrong with any of these nine series, which run the gamut from brand new to tried and true:
Rosamund Pike (Moiraine Damodred), Josha Stradowski (Rand al’Thor) in The Wheel of Time season 3. Image: Prime Video. The Wheel of Time
Let's get the bad news out of the way first...The Wheel of Time has been cancelled, but that doesn't mean it's not deserving of being on our list. Based on the 14 book-series by Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, The Wheel of Time books walked so that the Song of Ice and Fire books could run.
If we had to explain this fantasy epic in full, we'd be here all day. It's a magical story about a group of unassuming country kids — Rand al'Thor, Mat Cauthon, Perrin Aybara, Egwene al'Vere and Nynaeve al'Meara — taken on a world-spanning journey...

Star Trek Discovery was a wild addition to the Star Trek universe, but how do the seasons of the series rank?
When it premiered in 2017 for what was then CBS All Access, Star Trek: Discovery was a huge deal. A prequel set before The Original Series with new characters, it had some bold ideas, yet some complained about its tone and that it was trying to be too cutting edge. As time went on, the show slowly made itself into a fun series that would replicate the Star Trek feel.
Some feel it should have gone longer than five seasons, even if it did wrap up its plotlines nicely. Naturally, there's debate on how the seasons may rank with some fans having different personal preferences. So, while there's likely going to be some conversation, here's our ranking of every Star Trek: Discovery season and what made this grow into a great series!

For fans of modern Star Trek, few actors or actresses had material as good as Michelle Yeoh. Playing two different versions of Captain Philippa Georgiou, Yeoh became one of the most dangerous figures of the Kurtzman Star Trek universe. After years of rumors about a Star Trek: Section 31 series, a one-off movie makes its way to Paramount+. Directed by veteran Star Trek director Olatunde Osunsanmi, the movie breathes life into the potential for new movies to celebrate characters from Discovery, Strange Worlds, and maybe even Lower Decks.

Disney+ has been in a tricky situation when it comes to original shows and films. In 2023, they made the controversial decision to purge numerous original TV series and movies for budget reasons, which means a lot less to watch. They also had a merger with Hulu and a new partnership with HBO Max.

Photo Cr: Michael Gibson/Paramount+ Set in the Star Trek universe prior to the events of the original series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds has faced a unique challenge: It has featured a number of characters who would go on to become Star Trek legends. The Spock and Uhura characters are regulars on the show, while James T. Kirk and Scotty have made a number of guest appearances during the show’s first two seasons. Of course, the challenges faced by the show’s writers and producers in building these characters’ backstories are shared by the actors, each of whom is following in some very famous footsteps. Ethan Peck was originally hired to play Spock on another series, Star Trek: Discovery, and was then brought back as a regular on Strange New Worlds. Speaking...

Hedge funder Jacob Walthour of Blueprint Capital Advisors has allegedly been removed as chairman of Ebony Capital Partners, a counter-move to the prior dismissal of Ebony CEO Willard Jackson Jr.
Ebony cited what it claimed was an illegal board meeting, removal of a director, a notice of lender liability, and defamation in its action.
The Ebony ownership said in a statement that it “grew concerned when Walthour began to book media appearances and shared confidential information with outlets, including The Wall Street Journal. Walthour’s actions are in direct violation of Ebony’s governing documents that require the lender’s relationship to be kept at arm’s length.”
In response, the Ebony Media Holdings board of directors issued the following statement:
“While there have been multiple attempts to claim ownership of Ebony Magazine, there is one Ebony Magazine. It is run by Ebony Media Holdings LLC and its operations are...
