A new Wonder Woman movie is moving forward at DC Studios, and we recently got word that Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira has been enlisted to pen the script.
James Gunn and Peter Safran clearly have a lot of faith in Nogueira, who also wrote the live-action Teen Titans movie. According to Jeff Sneider in his latest newsletter, Nogueira "has already handed in her first draft of Teen Titans, and owes DC a revision, which she’ll work on while writing Wonder Woman."
Sneider has also been doing some digging about a potential Wonder Woman director, and his sources believe that Gunn will be searching for a filmmaker who is “light, fun, and not too serious” to bring this new take on Diana to the screen.
Here are ten names Sneider's insiders view as "likely possibilities" to land the gig. Keep in mind, we don't know if any of these directors...

DC Studios has chosen Ana Nogueira to write the script for its upcoming Wonder Woman reboot, Variety has confirmed. Nogueira, known for writing the new Supergirl movie, is also working on a live-action Teen Titans film for the studio.
According to Variety, Wonder Woman has become one of DC’s top priorities. On July 16, the outlet reported that DC is fast-tracking the movie. James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, told Entertainment Weekly back in June that the film “is being written right now.”
Nogueira’s career actually began in front of the camera. She acted in shows like The Michael J. Fox Show, The Vampire Diaries, and most recently, the crime drama Hightown. Her work on Supergirl will mark her first produced screenplay.
That film, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring Milly Alcock, is set to release on June 26, 2026. It’s based on the comic Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King.

DC Studios has finally chosen a writer for its new Wonder Woman movie. According to Variety, Ana Nogueira, who wrote the upcoming Supergirl film, has been hired to work on the reboot of Wonder Woman.
This news comes not long after Variety reported that DC was rushing to get the film moving, calling it a major priority for the studio. In fact, DC Studios co-head James Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that a Wonder Woman film “is being written right now.”
Nogueira is not new to the DC world. Besides Wonder Woman, she’s also working on a live-action Teen Titans movie for DC Studios.
Her first produced screenplay will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is being directed by Craig Gillespie and stars Milly Alcock. That film is set to hit theaters on June 26, 2026. Before turning to writing, Nogueira worked as an actress, appearing in shows like The Vampire Diaries and Hightown.

The Wrap reveals that Ana Nogueira has been tapped by DC Studios to write its upcoming Wonder Woman movie. She's someone James Gunn and Peter Safran clearly have a lot of faith in, as this will mark the playwright's third Dcu project.
The playwright and actor first came to our notice when she was hired by Warner Bros. to write a Supergirl movie, spinning out of 2023's The Flash. Sasha Calle was dumped from the role when DC Studios was formed, but Gunn and Safran immediately hired her to pen Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Directed by Craig Gillespie with Milly Alcock in the lead role, it's since been retitled Supergirl. Nogueira also wrote Teen Titans for DC Studios, which has yet to be officially greenlit. Now, it seems the studio wants the writer to prioritise bringing Diana Prince back to theaters.

We’ve confirmed that Supergirl screenwriter Ana Nogueira is writing DC Studios’ new redo of Wonder Woman.
The writer is also reportedly set to write a live-action take of Teen Titans for the James Gunn- and Peter Safran-run Warner Bros label.
DC Studios doesn’t comment on development news.
The news comes in the wake of Gunn’s Superman coursing to $409 million-plus at the global box office through two weekends. That movie is a bright spot for comic book movies, which haven’t seen the hot streak at the box office like in the pre-Covid days.
When Gunn and Safran took the reins of the studio, they passed on making Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3. The director, who broke the glass ceiling for a female filmmaker at the box office with Wonder Woman‘s $103.2M domestic opening (and ultimate $412.8M stateside and near $824M global take) voiced her upset to the media.

DC Studios has hired “Supergirl” screenwriter Ana Nogueira to write its reboot of “Wonder Woman,” Variety has confirmed. Nogueira is also writing a live-action “Teen Titans” for the studio.
Wonder Woman has become a major priority for the studio. Variety reported on July 16 that DC was fast-tracking the feature project, and DC Studios co-chief James Gunn told Entertainment Weekly in June that a “Wonder Woman” movie “is being written right now.” The studio is also developing “Paradise Island,” a TV series for HBO set on Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira, though Gunn has said progress on that project is “slow moving.”
Nogueira started her career as an actor, including on “The Michael J. Fox Show,” “The Vampire Diaries” and most recently the crime series series “Hightown.” “Supergirl,” directed by Craig Gillespie (“Cruella”) and starring Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”), will be her first produced screenplay; it’s adapted...

Following a blockbuster debut last week, director James Gunn’s Superman continued to dominate the box office as it prepares to face direct competition in the form of fellow superhero film The Fantastic Four: First Steps in a few days. This weekend, Supermansoared past the $200 million mark domestically and the $400 million mark worldwide, further establishing itself as a solid win for Warner Bros. The studio had a difficult start to the year, but has delivered five hits in a row, including F1, which it’s only distributing for Apple Studios. Superman is the studio’s second-biggest hit of 2025, behind onlyA Minecraft Movie.
With around $235 million domestically and another $172 million from overseas markets, Superman’s cumulative global box office haul stands at $406 million. Warning: This article includes Spoilers from Superman.James Gunn explains Milly Alcock's Supergirl debut in the DC Universe through the Superman movie. One of the biggest Superman movie references and Easter eggs was the House of El, as fans not only got a glimpse of Kal-El's birth parents, but his famous Kryptonian cousin, Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl.
Towards the Superman movie ending, a very drunk Kara shows up at the Fortress of Solitude to pick up Krypto, revealing that it was actually her dog. While Alcock's cameo became one of the fun surprises in Superman, the Dcu is just getting started with her, as the Supergirl film will be arriving in 2026.

If Superman had flopped or proved to be yet another DC Comics film that critics eviscerated, where would that leave the Dcu and DC Studios?
I guess we'll never know, or one would have to enter a pocket universe to find out.
With Superman poised to approach or perhaps even eclipse the $400 million global box office mark this weekend and currently sitting at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, DC Studios co-chief and director James Gunn is finally letting out a huge sigh of relief.
Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn admitted that he now has a huge weight off his shoulders.
"I have a strange way of approaching work. When I'm working, when I'm filming or writing, I really don't feel pressure- I'm having fun, that's my relief valve. That's a relieving time for me. But then outside of that, yeah, I felt a lot of pressure. I mean, there...

This article contains spoilers for "Superman."
"Superman" has now successfully introduced James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe to the big-screen. Maybe more importantly, though, the movie has also crafted a feeling among audiences that they should expect different things from each Dcu project. Indeed, Gunn has repeatedly said each entry in this cinematic universe will feel different and there's no real "house style" to speak of. Now, the filmmaker has unveiled the first "Supergirl" poster on social media, and it seems to back up his claim in a big way.
In the first poster for "Supergirl," Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El is shown defiantly leaning on a wall drinking a frozen convenience store beverage -- one that's clearly not your average Slurpee -- in front of a mural of the symbol adorned by her cousin Superman (David Corenswet). The first poster for Supergirl has been released following Milly Alcock's debut as the Girl of Steel in Superman this past weekend.
"Look Up" was the tagline for the Man of Steel's Dcu debut, but the script is flipped here, and it's changed to "Look Out." Given what we've seen from the Dcu's Kara, that seems appropriate.
In Superman's closing moments, a drunk Supergirl shows up at the Fortress of Solitude to retrieve her dog, Krypto. She quickly takes her leave, with Kal-El telling "Gary" (a.k.a. Superman Robot #4) that she likes to go and drink on planets with a red sun because their metabolism means they can't get that same buzz on Earth.
During a recent interview with Screen Rant, DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn shared new insights into what fans can expect from the Dcu's Woman of Tomorrow.

Less than a week out from the premiere of Superman, James Gunn has unveiled a new look at the next DC Studios film by dropping the first poster for Supergirl.
Playing on the Superman tagline “Look up,” the image shows Milly Alcock’s Woman of Tomorrow drinking a Slurpee next to a Superman poster — only she’s written “out” over “up.” A close look also reveals what looks like blood on her fingers, hinting this could be a very different kind of superhero adventure than the hopeful Superman.
Coming from director Craig Gillespie and a script by Ana Nogueira (known for acting roles in The Vampire Diaries and The Blacklist), Supergirl is set to soar into theaters on June 26th, 2026. Alcock stars alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. Jason Momoa is also expected to make his debut as Lobo, and yes, Krypto will be part of this one too.

Less than one week after Superman flew into theaters everywhere, James Gunn has released the first official poster for Supergirl. The poster shows the best look yet at Milly Alcock in the feature role of Kara Zor-El, Kal-El’s cousin, who also makes a brief appearance in James Gunn’s 2025 hit film. It also pokes fun at Superman’s tagline, Look Up, by showing Alcock’s Supergirl posing beside the signature slogan, only with "Out" painted over Up. Fans who have seen Superman and watched the chaos Kara can wreak know that there isn’t anything to do but look out. James Gunn has already established the beginnings of a universe with Superman, and when Supergirl hits theaters everywhere next year on June 26, it will continue to expand with new characters.
Supergirl, which was previously titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, has also recruited some other notable stars to feature alongside Alcock in her Dcu debut.

The following contains minor spoilers for Superman.
The DC Universe officially kicked off with Superman on July 11. Following the extremely positive reception, the studio is not wasting any time before promoting its new films.
While Superman received praise and had a great opening weekend, James Gunn is already looking forward to the future. That involves Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which will mark the second feature film in the Dcu, slated for release in 2026. Although the film is 11 months away from its premiere, Gunn has introduced the world to the first official poster on X, and it's perfect.

The Supergirl poster changes David Corenswet's Superman's "Look Up" logline to "Look out." The image also teases a very comic-accurate suit forMilly Alcock's Kara Zor-El. It features the logo on the chest, a big, gold belt at the waist, with a burgundy...

She came, she stumbled, she conquered. Brief as it is, Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, arguably has the best cameo in James Gunn's "Superman." It's also the perfect way to tee up the character's solo DC Universe movie, which is heading our way in 2026. Indeed, audiences probably weren't expecting Alcock's Girl of Steel to show up in Gunn's film the way she does, and it's absolutely brilliant. In fact, based on that scene alone, this daring writer feels brave enough to say that "Supergirl" is not only shaping up to match the quality of Gunn's big blue blockbuster, but it's plausible Kara may yet outdo her Kryptonian cousin's first big-screen outing in the Dcu.

It’s been more than 80 years since Superman flew off the pages of “Action Comics #1,” and introduced readers to the then-described “Champion of the Oppressed.” The hero has gone on thousands of adventures since his 1930s debut — “Action Comics” alone celebrated its thousandth issue in 2018.
James Gunn’s “Superman” feels like some of these comics flew off the page, adapting everything beautiful, inspiring and outright goofy about the Man of Steel. If you left “Superman” wanting more, check out some of these stories that inspired the Dcu debut.
This list will have no spoilers for “Superman” (2025). If it wasn’t in a trailer, it won’t be mentioned here.
“All-Star Superman” by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely
“All-Star Superman” should be thought of as the comic book equivalent of the Christopher Reeve/Richard Donner “Superman” movie: there’s nothing quite like it, and it set an immovable gold standard going forward.

The latest Superman movie is out in theaters, and by and large, people are loving it. Beyond just Superman, the movie featured a lot of DC heroes, including Green Lantern, Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho and Superman's cousin Supergirl, played by House of the Dragon veteran Milly Alcock. By introducing these side characters, it's obvious that Superman is setting up other films in the new DC Cinematic Universe that writer-director James Gunn is building, but the movie didn't feel overstuffed or desperate.
Supergirl, real name Kara Zor-El, showed up right at the end of the movie to collect Krypto the Superdog, whom Superman had been watching while Kara partied on other planets; apparently Kryptonians have to go to worlds with red suns if they want to get drunk, since the power of our yellow sun improves their metabolism too much. Superman might still be doing a victory lap after a great opening weekend at the box office, but now all eyes are on his cousin Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl (Milly Alcock). Among the fun cameos that made their way into James Gunn's Man of Steel movie, Superman's cousin dropped in faster than an intoxicated bullet to pick up her pooch, Krypto, before flying off out of the new door she made for the Fortress of Solitude. The passing visit might've come as a shock for some viewers, but for Gunn, it's all part of the ever-expanding plan being laid out for the DC Universe -- and Supergirl is next up on the movie slate.
But is that really the kind of Supergirl we'll be meeting when her standalone movie arrives? What kind of antics will she be getting up to, and how does the Man of Steel's new...

Update July 14, 2025: It was a blockbuster debut for James Gunn's DC universe, as Superman soared to first place with $122 million at the domestic box office. The superhero film, starring David Corenswet, marked the highest opening ever for a solo Superman movie, surpassing 2013's Man of Steel, which debuted with $116 million.
Superman added $95 million from international markets, bringing its worldwide weekend total to a massive $217 million. “I’m incredibly grateful for your enthusiasm and kind words over the past few days," Gunn wrote in a post on Threads over the weekend, responding to the film's box office success. "We’ve had a lot of ‘Super’ in Superman over the years, and I’m happy to have made a movie that focuses on the ‘man’ part of the equation — a kind person always looking out for those in need. Seth Rogen and Pete Davidson’s underrated comedy film Dumb Money is making its Hulu debut this weekend. A film, though critically acclaimed and well-received, did not go to the moon but has created its place in the sphere. The film resonates with the viewers due to its humorous and insightful take on the GameStop short squeeze of 2021.
Directed by Craig Gillespie, Dumb Money is a unique story inspired by real life about an ordinary man who starts it all by sinking his life savings into the stock market. But when his social media posts start blowing up, so does his life and the lives of everyone following him. The film explored the themes of finances, class warfare, and the standardization of information in the digital age.

Among DC's roster of superheroes, Superman is always seen as the ultimate symbol of strength. The comics, particularly early on, have often painted him as all-powerful, constantly giving him new abilities and expanding the limits of his might to new and sometimes ridiculous heights. That's not how James Gunn pictured his Clark Kent, though. The first trailer for the director's Superman opened with David Corenswet's Man of Steel crumpled on the ground, requiring the aid of Krypto to get back home. He was never going to be turning back time by flying around the Earth, lifting the weight of the planet, or destroying a solar system with a sneeze anytime soon, but, in the director's eyes, that's for the best.

What, exactly, is going on with DC? The answer is, a lot.
After an aborted attempt by Zack Snyder to create a unified universe of characters and subsequent successful one-offs like “Joker” and “The Batman,” Warner Bros. installed James Gunn and Peter Safran as the new co-CEOs of DC Films, under which they will build out an interconnected Dcu of films, TV shows and video games over the next eight to 10 years.
That universe officially got off and running with “Superman,” written and directed by James Gunn, a colorful and buoyant and unabashedly comic book-y adaptation introducing David Corenswet’s Kal-El to the world. The film’s opening weekend box office and assurances from Wbd boss David Zaslav seem to indicate this DC reboot’s going to stick, at least for now. And there’s a lot in the pipeline.

James Gunn’s new Superman movie just hit theaters this Friday, and people everywhere are still talking about it. The most famous Kryptonian finally made his big live-action debut as part of the new DC Universe, and his cousin, Supergirl, will be joining the action soon, well, by “soon,” we mean next year. Milly Alcock is set to star in her own Supergirl movie.
Actually, Alcock has already made a brief appearance as Supergirl, but I can’t share any details because of spoilers from the Superman movie.
Recently, the studio released the first official photo of Alcock fully dressed as Supergirl, and fans are really impressed. The costume looks very similar in style to the one worn by David Corenswet, who plays Superman, especially with the matching crest and colors. It also stays true to the comics that inspired the film, Supergirl is rocking the classic skirt look.

From the very first trailer for Superman, the standout star arguably wasn't David Corenswet as Clark Kent or Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, but Krypto the Superdog. The Kryptonian's best friend and certified good boy made his live-action debut by pulling a battered Man of Steel home by his cape, and he proved to be just as loyal a sidekick in the full film. However, while he's tied to Kal-El as his childhood dog, James Gunn says his role in the Dcu will expand in a big way with what comes next. In a recent episode of Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, the director hinted at the future of Krypto and a tragic reality that may be addressed at some point.
Shepard asked about Krypto after watching the trailer and being introduced to the character. After Gunn explained that the canine came from Krypton and shared his owner's powers, the...

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow's leading Kryptonian is far from the Man of Steel, and James Gunn explains why.

On its first day in theaters, Superman is absolutely soaring at the box office. After setting records with the highest previews of the year and a personal best for writer-director James Gunn, the Dcu's first official film is eyeing a very strong $55 million on Friday as of midday projections. There's a lot of weekend ahead of it, but David Corenswet's debut as the Man of Steel is on pace to rake in over $115 million domestically across the three-day stretch, including the $22.5 million on Thursday. Between the long absence of Clark Kent on the big screen and the extensive marketing efforts of Warner Bros., it's looking like everything paid off for Gunn and company as they look to get the rebooted superhero franchise off on the right foot.
Not only is Superman on pace to exceed expectations so far, but it may still have room to grow depending on which projections you trust.

Writer/director Christian Swegal’s “Sovereign” dramatizes the true story of the final days of sovereign citizens Jerry and Joe Kane before their 2010 flight from law enforcement ended in a violent exchange of gunfire. The film fits thematically into a cinematic continuum with recent releases like “Civil War” and “Warfare,” exploring the complexities of American life and belief systems at a time of heightened tribalism. But for fans of its star Nick Offerman, Jerry Kane also aligns with a handful of other roles — including in “Civil War”, where he played the President — where the outspoken progressive has portrayed characters with conservative or extreme right-wing ideologies.
Of course, Offerman is best known for playing Libertarian Ron Swanson for seven seasons on the NBC sitcom “Parks and Recreation.” But the juxtaposition between — and conflation of — the actor’s personal and professional lives has only grown more complicated since the show went off the air,...

Superman may be the first ever Dcu movie, but that doesn't mean the bright, optimistic (arguably a little corny) and relatively family-friendly world inhabited by David Corenswet's Man of Steel is going to inform this franchise going forward.
While all of the planned Dcu movies and TV shows will be part of the same shared universe, director and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn has now made it clear that he wants every project to feel completely different from a tonal standpoint.
“I mean it’s this movie,” Gunn told IGN when asked about his film's All-Star Superman’s influence. “It’s really important to me that every project has its own stamp on it. Prime Video truly has something for everyone on its summer lineup — from the topsy-turvy teen drama We Were Liars to the action-packed Countdown. But those looking for a more grown-up whodunnit featuring two of the best actresses in the biz, well, they know to look no further than the streamer’s thriller series, The Better Sister. Starring Jessica Biel and Elizabeth Banks, the series follows in the footsteps of Alafair Burke’s 2019 novel, and tells the story of a family torn apart by murder. While the performances of its leading and supporting cast drive the plot and keep audiences engaged, it’s the soundtrack composed by Will Bates that further launches the intrigue and informs viewers how to feel from one scene to the next. Rachel Brosnahan, the actress who is widely renowned for her breakthrough role as Miriam “Midge” Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, has earned a one-way ticket into one of the up-and-coming Dcu, through James Gunn’s upcoming Superman. And since then, talks about her pretty much refuse to die down.
The forthcoming flick will see her embodying the character of the fan-beloved Lois Lane: A world-famous investigative journalist at Daily Planet, who works alongside (and ends up being the love interest of) Clark Kent, aka the Kryptonian superhero Kal-El (played by David Corenswet in the new movie).
Judging from the reviews that the trailer and the early screenings have received so far, Brosnahan has ostensibly left no stone unturned in giving one of the finest performances of her lifetime as Lane. But while that one’s to look forward to, you might want to see more of her after watching her in Superman.

It hardly feels like a spoiler to say that Supergirl appears in Superman. After all, Milly Alcock's cameo in the movie has been rumoured for upwards of a year and was to be expected when Supergirl (formerly titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow) lands in theaters next year.
Supergirl's role in this movie is a minor one, as she drunkenly shows up at the Fortress of Solitude to retrieve her dog, Krypto. We've seen the Maiden of Might from afar thanks to Supergirl set photos, but some leaked images and footage now fully reveal the Dcu's Kara Zor-El.
There's a clear punk rock inspiration, no great surprise given the approach the Dcu is taking to the character. Plus, we'd expect her to have some style, especially with Cruella director Craig Gillespie at the helm of Supergirl.
Recently, Superman director and DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn opened up on how Kal-El and his cousin differ.

DC Studios head James Gunn may have revealed his first choice to play Wonder Woman.
In a recent interview with Extra, the “Guardians of the Galaxy” director discussed “Hit Man” star Adria Arjona and teased where he sees her fitting in to his revamped DC Universe.
“I follow Adria on Instagram, but everybody came out [and thought], ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman,'” Gunn shared. “She’d be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.”
“She was in a movie that I made seven years ago,” he added. “We’ve been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.”
Earlier in June, Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that a new feature film following Wonder Woman is “being written right now.” He added that the movie would come in addition to an HBO series about Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira.

Superman is the first DC Studios movie, and is expected to introduce Milly Alcock's Supergirl before she takes flight in next summer's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.
Making Supergirl the second Dcu movie is an intriguing move on James Gunn's part, particularly as it keeps the action in the Man of Steel's corner of this world. Well, mostly. The Maiden of Might's big screen return is expected to be a largely cosmic affair, so does that mean we'll visit the new version of Krypton?
ComicBook.com caught up with Gunn and asked how much of Kara Zor-El's backstory on Krypton will be explored in her upcoming solo feature.
"[Flashbacks to Krypton are] always a possibility. But I think those things are really integral to the two characters and the differences between them, and that Clark really does have sort of this really happy childhood," the filmmaker explained. "I mean, he had...

DC Studios' James Gunn explains what makes Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El so different in Supergirl, compared to past interpretations of the DC hero. Craig Gillespie's Supergirl movie is set to establish the titular Kryptonian hero as one of the Dcu's main foundations. Instead of presenting Kara Zor-El as Superman's upbeat cousin on Earth, Supergirl will follow Kara as she fights her own battles far off in space.
In an interview with ComicBook, DC Studios head and Superman director James Gunn acknowledges the Dcu's Supergirl has a much different origin to previous live-action iterations of the hero. Gunn explains that living on Krypton's remains have made Milly Alcock's Supergirl "kind of a mess" compared to Superman. Gunn says that flashbacks to Krypton in Supergirl are "always a possibility," but suggests the heart of the story is in how Krypton's destruction shaped Kara Zor-El. Check out Gunn's full comments:

Exclusive: It’s been almost a decade since Paul Dano and Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert blew away Sundance Film Festival attendees with Swiss Army Man, but now the trio now looks ready to reunite on Dano’s next director outing. Sources tell Deadline that Dano is set to write and in talks to direct a new untitled comedy for Universal Pictures, with Kwan, Scheinert and their partner Jonathan Wang producing through their Playgrounds banner. Dano is also in talks to produce.
Plot details are being kept under wraps other then it being a high-concept, original comedy. The Daniels have a first-look deal at the studio and, while they are still deep in development on a follow-up to their Oscar Best Picture winner Everything Everywhere All at Once, this film would mark one of the first major projects they are solely producing under the deal. James Gunn has been sharing his thoughts on the rebirth of the Dcu with many people in interviews over the last several days ahead of the release of Superman in cinemas on July 11. Among the many subjects he has discussed, one question that came up during his appearance on DC Studios Showcase Official Podcast was about the appointment of a former Dceu star in a role that many fans say he was born to play – Jason Momoa as Lobo.
Momoa appeared in Justice League as Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, and his role continued in two solo movies, and several other cameo appearances. While his movies ended up being some of the highest grossing of the entire Dceu venture, like almost the entire cast of heroes assembled since Man of Steel was released in 2013, Momoa’s time as Aquaman ended with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023. That doesn’t mean...

Recently, DC Studios boss James Gunn explained how and why DC Extended Universe star Jason Momoa was brought back for the new DC Universe post-reboot—only, not in the same role. Rather than reprise his part as Aquaman, Momoa had another character in mind: Lobo. According to Gunn, the actor pitched himself as the iconic DC antagonist, and he ultimately scored the role for Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which is set to release in 2026. Based on the comic of the same name, the film also stars Milly Alcock, Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham.
In an appearance on the DC Studios Showcase podcast, Gunn told the story of how Momoa approached him. He explained: "When it was announced that I got the job. [...] I got a message immediately. It was Jason Momoa texting me saying... just all caps, 'Lobo, baby." A billion exclamation points."
