There’s no denying that Breaking Bad dominates the television scene. Vince Gilligan’s story about a chemistry teacher becoming a meth kingpin is the stuff of TV legend. But let’s pump the brakes for a second.
Before Breaking Bad even existed, The Sopranos had already redefined what television could be. David Chase’s mob saga wasn’t just ahead of its time; it helped create the golden age of TV as we know it. And in more than a few ways, it edges past the Bryan Cranston-led show.
Yes, both shows explore crime, power, and moral collapse, but The Sopranos brings a level of psychological depth and dark humor that hits differently. Even celebrities like Ben Affleck and Jon Bernthal prefer The Sopranos over Breaking Bad because of this. It’s not just about plot twists or intense standoffs. It’s about character studies, haunting silences, and...

We all imagine we have a breaking point. A line that, once crossed, would change us irrevocably. Vince Gilligan’s Breaking Bad is not a story about crime; it is a clinical, unblinking examination of that line. Set against the dusty, sun-bleached sprawl of Albuquerque, the series serves as a modern tragedy, meticulously charting how the […]

Some TV characters don’t just entertain; they stick with you, living rent-free in your head for years. And few have done that better than the slick, fast-talking, morally flexible lawyer Saul Goodman, aka Jimmy McGill. Played brilliantly by Bob Odenkirk, Saul wasn’t just comic relief in Breaking Bad; he became the heartbeat of some of its intense and most human moments.
Originally created as a supporting character, Saul was so unforgettable that fans demanded more, and Vince Gilligan delivered in the best way possible with the phenomenal spin-off Better Call Saul.
It was this role that catapulted Odenkirk from a respected comedian and writer into a full-blown dramatic heavyweight. Suddenly, he wasn’t just the guy with a snappy one-liner; he was anchoring one of the highest-rated shows in TV history. And with that legacy came serious respect and a seriously impressive paycheck.

Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, taken together, have no match in television history in terms of mesmerizing, cinematic storytelling. There isn’t any other set of characters and narrative that is quite capable of evoking the same reaction.
Mike Gould and Vince Gilligan’s fruitful collaboration captured the meteoric rise and tragic downfall of Walter White. He started off as an ailing high-school chemistry teacher and died as a disgraced drug kingpin, all alone. Better Call Saul took inspiration from a similar arc for Saul Goodman, a kind-hearted and intrepid lawyer who did not hold back from bending the rules, so to speak.
But relegating the shows to only focus on their main men would be vain and an insult to what the Breaking Bad universe represents. Both shows have so much to offer beyond Walter and Saul. Among other things, the most cherished aspect for fans was how...

Vince Gilligan may be most famous for his iconic creation, Breaking Bad, but the idea for Walter White was planted years ago in an episode of The X-Files. “Drive” in season 6, which aired on November 15, 1998, introduced us to a character named Patrick Trump, portrayed by Bryan Cranston. This was a character, so sympathetic, intense, and morally ambiguous that he saw the perfect antihero potential in him.
In the hour-long episode, Gilligan realised Cranston’s prowess to make even a villain seem human, an essential trait for Walter White. Gilligan’s writing experience from the X-Files gave him the craft of building monstrous figures with empathy. That tension between the man and the villain is what came through perfectly in Walter White’s story.

Vince Gilligan‘s Breaking Bad has become a staple for modern television drama, earning itself a household name after 10 million people tuned in (via NY Times) for its finale released in 2013. Titled ‘Felina’, Gilligan fesses up to borrowing the ending from John Wayne’s epic Western film The Searchers (1956).
Throughout The Searchers, we follow the character Ethan chasing after Debbie for revenge. In Breaking Bad, Walter White is out for Jesse Pinkman, but instead saves him from being a slave. Gilligan draws from John Wayne’s story and reworks it into the tale of Pinkman and the great Heisenberg. Gilligan states:
“It’s this tear-jerking wonderful ending. We stole from the best.“

Vince Gilligan‘s work is known to each sci-fi fanatic out there. But, do you know about The X Files? It is a sci-fi that questions the difference between paranormal and science. Starring the enigmatic David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, the series culminated in May 2002.
As for Gilligan, The X Files marked the start of his career in the sci-fi landscape. The esteemed visionary was considering and still is to revive the show even after a decade. In an interview with The Independent, Vince Gilligan quoted,
“The thought that there could be more episodes of The X Files is very exciting to me indeed.”
He further continued,
“If I knew I could do it, I would love to be a part of it, but even if I am not, you can know for a fact that I’ll be watching every episode and rooting them on, and being very much the fanboy that I started.

Who could forget the opening scene of "Lost" — in J.J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof's masterpiece of a pilot episode — where our hero, Jack (Matthew Fox), awakens in a jungle on a seemingly uninhabited island to find the wreckage of his Oceanic flight and its survivors screaming and wandering about in shock? It's one of the most effective, mysterious, and captivating cold opens ever made. But what's a "cold open" exactly?
In television, a cold open is the very first scene of an episode that always appears before the title card (or opening credits) of any given series. It's one of the greatest storytelling tools TV writers have. It can come in many different forms and shapes, taking up usually five to ten minutes to immediately capture the viewer's attention as potently as possible.

If you remember your history lessons, the word Pluribus is part of “E Pluribus Unum,” meaning the whole out of many, one. Vince Gilligan‘s highly anticipated drama, Pluribus, is set to challenge our perceptions about happiness and communal well-being.
This genre-bending drama features Rhea Seehorn, Carolina Wydra, and will also star Miriam Shor as a guest in the show. As per Variety, the nine-episode drama will conclude its first season on December 26, and it has already been renewed for Season 2.
But what does Pluribus even mean? Giving a completely different energy, Gilligan is taking the utterly confusing concept and flipping it on its head, turning the drama into something low-key terrifying. Let’s delve deep into what the visionary’s perception is about this Apple TV+ show and what it has in store for the audience.

Do you remember Jessica Goldberg's TV drama, "The Path," with Aaron Paul, Michelle Monaghan, and Hugh Dancy? Yeah, me neither. That's kind of the problem since I actually watched half of the Hulu series' first season back in 2016, but the only thing I can recall is that it was underwhelming, dull, and way too slow to hold my interest. It was meant to be the show that gave new life to Aaron Paul's career after he couldn't quite utilize the fame and praise "Breaking Bad" brought him over five years. Once Vince Gilligan's revolutionary masterpiece ended in 2013, Paul was offered a bunch of roles in various movies, but somehow none of those propelled him into the A-star category of actors who usually headlined features.
Maybe he just wasn't ready for it as much as his co-star and pal Bryan Cranston, who cashed in on his role of Walter...

After earning critical acclaim and fan adoration on Better Call Saul, Vince Gilligan and Rhea Seehorn are teaming up once again, this time for a mysterious sci-fi series on Apple TV+. The untitled drama marks Gilligan’s first project since wrapping the Breaking Bad universe, and it promises to take fans into stranger territory.
Plot details remain limited, but the new series has been called a sci-fi drama exploring human nature with comparisons to The Twilight Zone. Apple won the highly competitive bidding war for the show in 2022, beating out several major studios eager to work with Gilligan after his success with Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. In fact, Apple was so confident in Gilligan's next project that it ordered two seasons right out of the gate.
What’s confirmed so far is that Seehorn, who played fan-favorite attorney Kim Wexler across six seasons of Better Call Saul, will lead the series.

When fans think of Bob Odenkirk nowadays, the first thing, or character, rather, that comes to mind is likely the shady lawyer Saul Goodman. The actor first stepped into the shoes and flashy suits of the defense lawyer and professional con artist in Season 2 of Breaking Bad and never looked back, evolving into something much more than just the comedic relief character and constant confidant of Walter White (Bryan Cranston) and Jesse Pinkman (Aaron Paul). The man whose real name is Jimmy McGill would eventually get his own television series in Better Call Saul, exploring the many layers of the character and his eventual downfall in a show that arguably rivaled its already legendary predecessor. Despite his powerhouse performance, however, Odenkirk never saw himself as an actor.

It's been a long time coming — a little over 12 years, to be exact — but Vince Gilligan is finally returning to television with a brand-new series outside the world of Breaking Bad, the show he's most well-known for creating. His next project appears to be a complete departure from the gritty crime drama set in Albuquerque; in fact, it finds Gilligan moving into sci-fi territory, which is sure to excite fans of his earlier work on The X-Files. Apple TV+ has posted the first incredibly brief teaser for the show, titled Pluribus — which, in true Gilligan fashion, reveals next to nothing regarding plot or story details.
The series has been in development for some time. It was first discussed following the conclusion of the Breaking Bad spinoff Better Call Saul, which was created by Peter Gould and found Gilligan contributing as a writer and director on several episodes. Early information surrounding...

"Help yourself! :)" Apple TV has finally revealed a first look at the new series from the creator of Breaking Bad, writer Vince Gilligan, which is ready to debut at the end of 2025 (starting in November). His new sci-fi drama series is titled Pluribus - the Latin word is an adjective that means "much, many" (used in the U.S. slogan "E pluribus unum"). There's still not much really known about what the show is about or what will be happening, but we finally have a one-line intro: The most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness. Pluribus stars Rhea Seehorn (who was in Gilligan's "Better Call Saul") along with Carlos Manuel Vesga, Karolina Wydra, Miriam Shor, and Samba Schutte. This sounds like it will be closer to something like Apple TV's hit show Severance rather than their other series Foundation (one of my faves) in...

Finally, big news has been revealed about the mysterious TV show that Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan has been working on for Apple TV+. It's been known that Gilligan was developing a new series with Better Call Saul's Rhea Seehorn set to star, and now the series has unveiled its title and premiere date.
On Friday, Apple TV+ shared a date announcement teaser revealing that the series is titled Pluribus, though the video stylizes it as Plur1bus. As shown in the video, the series will debut on Nov. 7, 2025. The teaser includes footage from the show of a woman licking doughnuts before placing them back into a box, presumably for others to unwittingly eat. Three years ago, it was announced that Sony Pictures TV had given a two-season order for a new series from Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan – a series that was described as a “blended, grounded genre drama” that’s something along the lines of the classic Rod Serling show The Twilight Zone. Gilligan’s Better Call Saul cast member Rhea Seehorn followed him over to the new show and signed on to play the lead role… and now, finally, we know when we’re going to have the chance to see it. The show, which is called Pluribus, is set to premiere on Apple TV+ on Friday, November 7. The remaining seven episodes will air every Friday through December 26. Deadline also shared a short teaser, which can be seen in the embed above.

Nearly three years after it was first announced, and following a few vague teasers from the principals over that time, some concrete details about the Apple TV+ series created by Vince Gilligan and starring Rhea Seehorn are finally available.
Well, a couple, at least.
For starters, the series — marking a reunion between the Better Call Saul co-creator and star — has a title, Pluribus (the “many” part of the unofficial U.S. motto “E pluribus unum,” or “From many, one”) and a premiere date, Nov. 7. Apple TV+ also released the first photo of Seehorn from the series, which is at the top of this story.
As for what Pluribus is about? That’s murkier. The show’s logline describes it as “a genre-bending original in which the most miserable person on Earth must save the world from happiness.” Cryptic social media posts from Apple earlier in the week read, “Happiness is contagious,...

Well, good news for anyone with eyes and a TV: Gilligan is back with a brand new show, coming to Apple TV+, and the first details have just been confirmed at this year’s San Diego Comic Con.

Vince Gilligan, the mastermind behind Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, is back on TV after a three-year absence. His new Apple TV+ series was announced back in 2022, and now we have a title, a release date, and a mysterious teaser. Pluribus will premiere on Apple TV+ on November 7, 2025, and will center around "the most miserable person on Earth" who "must save the world from happiness." Pluribus (which means "many" or "several" in Latin) is a science fiction series set, much like Gilligan's previous two series, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It will star Rhea Seehorn, who earned rave reviews in Better Call Saul as lawyer Kim Wexler.
However, Seehorn is not in evidence in the teaser, which is titled "Happiness Is Contagious" and opens in a commercial building at night. As crickets chirp outside, a woman carefully removes donuts from a box, one by one, and gives them a big lick,...

It’s impossible not to admire what Vince Gilligan pulled off with Better Call Saul, but even the sharpest shows have their speed bumps. As a longtime fan who’s watched the series, I keep thinking about those handful of episodes I’d love to see reworked. Not because I hated them, let’s be real, “mid” for Gilligan is still better than the best of most TV.
But sometimes the pacing stumbled, a character’s arc felt off, or an entire subplot seemed to vanish as quickly as it appeared. So here it is, straight from the rewatching couch: my top five episodes I wish Gilligan would take another swing at. Maybe I’m greedy, but who doesn’t want more from Saul Goodman’s world?

2025 may be nearly half way through, but in the world of TV the year is still young. As such, even though you may feel like the best TV you'll see this year is already behind us as we've headed down to the severed floor for Severance Season 2, stared at our reflection once again in Charlie Brooker's Netflix series Black Mirror, brought out the billy clubs for Disney+ must-see show Daredevil: Born Again, and had our collective socks knocked off by Philip Barantini's Adolescence, we assure you a veritable streaming smorgasbord still lies ahead of us in the coming months.
Yes, we may have just finished collecting our jaw from the flaw after that Andor Season 2 finale, and yes, the second seasons of both The Last Of Us and Doctor Who may have left our heads spinning, but there's still no shortage of returning favourites, fresh franchise offerings, original programming,...

Vince Gilligan has a warning for Hollywood and has asked creators to stop making villains look cool. That’s right, he’s worried that characters meant to be cautionary tales have become icons that fans are admiring, he said via US Weekly:
When we create characters as indelible as Michael Corleone or Hannibal Lecter or Darth Vader or Tony Soprano, viewers everywhere pay attention. They say, ‘Man, those dudes are badass! I want to be that cool.’ When that happens, fictional bad guys stop being the cautionary tales that they were intended to be. God help us, they become aspirational.
