Domhnall Gleeson has been in quite a few projects, but you probably know him best for his work in the ‘Harry Potter‘ movies as the eldest Weasley brother, Bill Weasley. If you are wondering whether the 42-year-old Irish actor/screenwriter is a nepo baby or not, then the answer is yes. Yes, he is.

Born on May 12, 1983, Gleeson is the son of renowned actor and one of Ireland’s greatest, Brendan Gleeson. The 70-year-old is best known for his roles in films like ‘Braveheart’, ‘Gangs of New York’, ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’, ‘Troy’, and more.

Just like his son, he, too, had a role in the ‘Harry Potter’ films, where he brought Alastor “Mad-Eye” Moody to life from paper. Moreover, the veteran actor has received tons of recognition through award shows. He was nominated for an Academy Award, three BAFTAs, multiple Golden Globes, two SAG awards, and more. He won...

Led by Domhnall Gleeson, the new editor-in-chief, his character brings energy and enthusiasm to a group of fresh underdog journalists in hopes of revitalizing the company.

For those of you who haven’t seen the trailer, here you go:

Greg Daniels, the showrunner who adapted BBC’s The Office (Ricky Gervais) for U.S. audiences, is a co-creator, along with Michael Koman (Late Night with Conan O’Brien). They have kept things hush-hush for quite some time, revealing only one still photo of Ned Sampson, the titular character played by Domhnall Gleeson. ScreenRant's own Brandon Zachary attended the 2025 San Diego Comic-Con panel for The Simpsons and revealed the series has something special planned for episode 800. The Simpsons is already the longest-running animated American TV series, but episode 800 will mark a major milestone for the show.

The Sdcc panel for The Simpsons included the show's creative team of Matt Groening, Matt Faughnan, Mike Price, and David Silverman. The creative team gave the audience confirmation that, with the current schedule for the series, The Simpsons will air episode 800 in February of 2026.

Episode 800 will also not air alone. On the night it airs in February, two episodes of The Simpsons will actually be broadcast instead. Just what is being planned for the episode, however, is "top secret" for now.

23 Years Later, Cillian Murphy's Groundbreaking Horror Classic Is an American Streaming Hit
Image
Last year, at the Academy Awards, Christopher Nolan’s mind-blowing biographical thriller Oppenheimer was the standout winner of the night, with one of the film's most coveted prizes going the way of the ever-loveable and incredibly talented Cillian Murphy. However, this well-deserved rise to the top of the acting tree simply wouldn't have been possible without one of the Irish actor's best early roles as Jim in 28 Days Later, alongside Naomie Harris and Brendan Gleeson.

Directed by Danny Boyle and penned by Alex Garland, the groundbreaking horror movie would revolutionize the zombie genre forever, without actually featuring any of the iconic monsters. Followed several years later by the Jeremy Renner-led 28 Weeks Later, it would take until this summer before the pulse-racing franchise was brought back to life with 28 Years Later, set to be the first in a trilogy followed swiftly by 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, directed by Nia DaCosta.

Denzel Washington’s new movie is getting closer by the day, but ahead of its debut in theaters, one of the more recent films from the two-time Oscar winner has found sustained streaming success. Washington stars alongside Brendan Gleeson and Frances McDormand in The Tragedy of Macbeth, the 2021 period thriller following a Scottish lord who becomes convinced that he will be the next King of Scotland, and his ambitious wife who supports his every move. ‘Try Guys’ Fans Doxxed ‘SNL’ Writer After Getting Called Out in Sketch
Image
While Saturday Night Live offers a scroll of its writers during the show’s closing credits, you rarely get to hear about which funny people authored a particular sketch. After hearing Devon Walker explain what happened to one SNL writer on the Lemme Say This podcast, maybe that’s a good idea.

During Walker’s first year on Saturday Night Live in Season 48, YouTube sensations the Try Guys found themselves embroiled in a scandal. A quick refresher: In 2022, one of the Try Guys had an extramarital affair with an employee, leading him to exit the group.

SNL often spoofs a particular week’s pop-culture buzz, so a Try Guys sketch featuring Bowen Yang, Mikey Day and Andrew Dismukes wasn’t a surprise. In Entertainment Weekly’s review of the show, it called the sketch “an amusing riff on mainstream news media’s tendency to get sidetracked, and buried in silly minutia.

James Gunn Calls This One of the Greatest Films Ever — “People Think I’m Being Ironic When I Say That”
Image
James Gunn has made some big movies, like Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad. But in a recent interview with French outlet Konbini, he didn’t talk about superheroes. Instead, he talked about a small bear in a blue coat.

During the interview, Gunn stopped at a display for Paddington in Peru and admitted he hadn’t seen it yet. But he didn’t hold back when talking about the previous film in the series. “Paddington 2 is a classic film,” he said. “It’s one of the greatest movies ever made. People think I’m being ironic when I say that, but I’m telling the truth.”

That’s a strong take, but he’s far from the only one who feels that way.

Paddington 2, which came out in 2017, is a live-action and animated comedy directed by Paul King. He also co-wrote it with Simon Farnaby.

Betty White's Underrated Horror 'Lake Placid' Finds Success on Streaming
Image
Long after the late Betty White was a cheesecake-loving golden girl from St. Olaf, she played against type to star in the one and only horror movie of her career as a foul-mouthed widow that stole the show. Chewing up every scene she was in with a string of profanities that would make a sailor blush, her character of Mrs. Delores Bickerman in Lake Placid was from the sweet and innocent Rose Nylund seen in her classic sitcom, and served to further endear White in the hearts of fans. Now, 26 years after its premiere, the film continues to be a crowd-pleaser on streaming.

Also starring the likes of Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Brendan Gleeson, and Oliver Platt, Lake Placid is a tremendously underrated creature feature directed by Steve Miner that focuses on a giant crocodile terrorizing the fictional location of Black Lake, Maine, and the dysfunctional group of police and...

It will face another horror movie, M3GAN, at the box office. According to Box Office Mojo‘s data, 28 Years Later collected franchise-record $2 million on Thursday at the box office in North America. The film reportedly experienced a decline of -12.1% from Wednesday.

Danny Boyle: People ‘Worried’ About Marketing ‘28 Years Later’ as a Mother-Son Tearjerker and Horror Fans Get ‘Concerned if Too Many Reviews Call It a Weepie’
Image
“28 Years Later” dazzled film critics with its zombie thrills and genre shifts, but the latter has made it a tougher pill to swallow for moviegoers. The long-awaited sequel has divided audiences with its out-of-left-field final scene and unexpected story pivots. “28 Years Later” begins as an intense zombie survival thriller between a father (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his son (Alfie Williams), but its second half evolves into a spiritual tearjerker between a mother (Jodie Comer) and her son. None of the marketing for “28 Years Later” suggested audience members might bawl during the film.

As noted by The Independent in its recent Danny Boyle profile: “You will cry. Possibly more than once. Boyle admits that this particular strain of the plot has been kept quiet in the film’s promotional materials.”

“Obviously, the core audience is a horror audience, and they’re concerned if too many reviews call it a weepie…...

Acclaimed filmmaker Sir Ridley Scott has been behind some of the most iconic films of all time. He has helmed many box office hits, although his projects weren't always a hit with the critics.

2005's Kingdom of Heaven is one of them. His lesser-known historical epic premiered on May 6, 2005, and received mixed reviews, but made decent money at the box office. As the film recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, Kingdom of Heaven has also scored a brand-new streaming home and will head to Hulu on July 1, per WhenToStream.

The historical epic had previously switched streaming homes late last year. Ahead of Gladiator II's release, which marked the sequel to probably one of Ridley Scott's most famous works, 2000's Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven headed to Prime Video on Nov. 1. The film had been available on Disney+ before, and now it's heading to Hulu.

The move is not surprising. Kingdom of Heaven...

28 Days Later (2002) – What Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
Whether it was the shocking imagery of a barren London in 2002, when the thought of totally empty cities felt unrealistic, or the brash, loud violence of it all: you likely remember where you were the first time you experienced 28 Days Later. It’s a film that feels utterly unique from the opening frame. A genuinely special movie that changed the genre and did so while battling the adversity of city councils, angry commuters, and even the fallout of 9/11. All leading to a genre-defining horror classic whose third upcoming sequel became the second most-watched YouTube trailer in movie history more than twenty years later. Hard to imagine for a movie that completely ran out of money before it even had an ending. This is what happened to 28 Days Later.

While we all know the story of 28 Days Later starts with careless activists who just wanted to set some damn monkeys free,...

Could ’28 Years Later’ contend for Oscars? Here’s the complete awards history of the ’28’ franchise.
Image
Originally published April 17; updated June 17 at 12:15 p.m. Pt

The most frightening zombies to ever appear on the big screen are back on Friday, and faster than ever. But can they run all the way to the 2026 Oscars?

Set almost three decades after 28 Days Later (2003) and 28 Weeks Later (2007), the first two films in Alex Garland's horror franchise, 28 Years Later is scheduled for theatrical release on June 20. Garland is back as the writer and Danny Boyle, who directed the first flick, returns to direct. (Juan Carlos Fresnadillo directed and cowrote the sequel.) Watch the trailer below.

Garland recently told Business Insider that sequels have become less profitable through the years, and that the Marvel behemoth is partly to blame. "I think sequels are seen as diminishing returns," he said. "I don't wanna sort of throw shade as it were, but Marvel has something to do with this,...

Before Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe Starred In A Forgotten Spy Movie With Pierce Brosnan
Image
Daniel Radcliffe will forever be known as Harry Potter, even now HBO has cast Dominic McLaughlin to play Harry in the new TV series based on the "Harry Potter" book series. Before he was cast in the Warner Bros. movie franchise, though, Radcliffe made his movie debut with a bit part in an early 2000s spy film. Indeed, not only did Radcliffe appear in a spy flick, but he also got to appear alongside cinematic spy royalty in the form of Pierce Brosnan.

That said, Radcliffe didn't share the screen with Brosnan in a Bond movie. Rather, he co-starred in 2001's "The Tailor of Panama," a spy thriller that saw Brosnan playing a different womanizing, morally dubious MI6 agent. Along with Brosnan and Radcliffe, the movie also starred the Oscar-winning Geoffrey Rush, who's best known for his roles in films like "The King's Speech" and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movies,...

'The Office' Reboot Star Says It's Wrong to Compare His Character With Michael Scott
Image
Domhnall Gleeson is preparing himself for one of his most important roles to date. The Harry Potter and Ex-Machina actor is set to play the lead in the upcoming The Office reboot/spin-off, The Paper, exclusively premiering on Peacock this September. While it's inevitable to try and find some of the Dunder Mifflin magic in everything that has come after the NBC series, Gleeson considers it a "massive mistake" to make his character compete with those previously portrayed by Steve Carell and Ricky Gervais.

Gleeson spoke to People magazine during the premiere of his new film co-starring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, Echo Valley. The conversation quickly segued into the actor's upcoming TV endeavor, the reboot created by Greg Daniels, who was also the showrunner of the U.S. version of The Office. Not much is known about the spin-off except that it follows the personnel working at a struggling Ohio newspaper,...

Ridley Scott on ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ Re-Release, How Eva Green ‘Never Forgave’ Him for Cutting Down Her Role, and the Western He Still Wants to Make
Image
Talking to Ridley Scott feels a bit like it must have been to watch gladiator matches in the Roman Colosseum: You never quite know what to expect, but it’s guaranteed to be an exciting ride.

He’s been knighted, nominated for four Oscars, and his films have grossed more than $5 billion worldwide. Even if he wasn’t 87 years old and 30 films into an almost 50-year career, Scott has earned the right to talk about what he likes. On a recent Sunday morning, the subject was his 2005 film “Kingdom of Heaven,” which now receives a limited re-release in theaters and a spanking-new 4K transfer on home video.

Starring Orlando Bloom, Eva Green, Jeremy Irons, David Thewlis, Brendan Gleeson, and Edward Norton, the original “Kingdom of Heaven” grossed $218 million worldwide up against a $130 million budget and mixed reviews. At the time an underwhelming period follow-up from the man who previously directed Best Picture winner “Gladiator,...

Robert Zemeckis' 2007 animated film version of "Beowulf," based on the Old English poem, was one of the earlier films to make such extensive use of then-novel motion-capture CGI technology. Zemeckis seemed to feel that mo-cap was the future of filmmaking, and had previously used it to animate CGI versions of Tom Hanks in his 2004 Christmas film "The Polar Express." After "Beowulf," Zemeckis kept on experimenting, using it in his 2009 animated film "A Christmas Carol," and then again in his doll-based biopic "Welcome to Marwen." Zemeckis has, in the last 20 years, mostly stuck with unusual tech experiments that stretch what the medium of cinema can do. Some of his experiments are successful (the 3D in "The Walk" is some of the best ever) and some aren't ("Here" sucked), but one can at least admire him for trying to reach higher.

"Beowulf" wasn't entirely successful, despite its ambition. It tried to turn...

Star Wars Actor Domhnall Gleeson Addresses 'Nepo Baby' Label With Refreshing Honesty
Image
The nepo baby conversation has taken over Hollywood in the past few years. Some people have asked, is it really fair that the sons and daughters of established stars have such an easy rise to fame? Doesn't that leave working-class actors in the dust?

So it's become common for "nepo" actors to be asked in interviews about their famous parentage and how they feel about it. Generally, nepo babies who admit to having a lot of privilege are given an easier ride than those who don't. And Domhnall Gleeson, the son of BAFTA and Emmy winning actor Brendan Gleeson, is one of these.

While promoting the upcoming Fountain of Youth to The Irish Times, Gleeson was asked about the "nepo baby" label. And he had a mature take on things. “It’s an important conversation,” he said. “There are a lot of people whose parents are in the industry. It...

Netflix's Live-Action 'Assassin's Creed' Series Recruits Veteran Creative Team
Image
The Assassin's Creed franchise is getting a redo in live-action, and Netflix has moved quickly to assemble a team of veteran television writers for their upcoming streaming series adaptation. The best-selling action adventure franchise famously got a feature film released in theaters in 2016 starring Michael Fassbender, but it proved to be another misstep in the video game movie genre. The streamer looks to rewrite history with their new live-action series, which will be spearheaded by a Westworld alum.

Nexus Point News (via the Writer's Guild of America) reports that Roberto Patino, an executive producer for Westworld and the showrunner for HBO's Dmz, will act as executive producer and co-showrunner for Netflix's Assassin's Creed alongside David Wiener (Halo). Joining them is an impressive list of producers and writers, as seen below. As of this writing, it is unclear what stage of development the project is in. However, the upcoming series is...

Spider-Noir First Look Teases Live-Action Nicolas Cage Spider-Verse Debut In Prime Video Series
Image
Fans of drinking egg creams and punching Nazis rejoice — our first official look at Spider-Noir is here. Two years after the Spider-Man Noir live-action series was announced, and almost a year to the day since we got confirmation that Nicolas Cage would be reprising his Spider-Verse role for the Prime Video series, Amazon used its 2025 Upfront presentation last night to unveil a monochrome teaser shot of Cage suited up in fedora and billowing trench coat. Check it out below;

While Cage's live-action take on Peter Benjamin Parker's period web-head is the spitting image of Sony Pictures Animation's version of the character, right down to the white goggles, this show and those movies' Spider-Verses are two separate entities.
