Lifetime Announces Airdate for ‘Reba McEntire’s The Hammer’ (TV News Roundup)

Lifetime has announced the airdate for “Reba McEntire’s The Hammer,” which marks Lifetime’s second collaboration with the country music singer following 2021’s “Reba McEntire’s Christmas in Tune.”

Inspired by the life of traveling circuit judge Kim Wanker, the original film follows Kim Wheeler (McEntire), a lawyer who is appointed Judge of the 5th District of Nevada and becomes one of the few traveling judges left in America. “The Hammer” reunites McEntire with her “Reba” co-star Melissa Peterman and stars Kay Shioma Metchie and Rex Linn.

The film is produced by The Cartel and Pahrump Pictures with Stan Spry, Eric Woods, Anthony Fankhauser, Steven St. Arnaud and McEntire serving as executive producers. Jeff Beesley directs from a script by Karen Wyscarver and Sanford Golden.

“Reba McEntire’s The Hammer” premieres Jan. 7 at 8 p.m. Et on Lifetime.

The Hammer will launch on Lifetime early next year.

The cabler announced today that the Reba McEntire movie is to premiere on January 7th at 8/7c on Lifetime.

The original movie is inspired by the life of traveling circuit judge, Kim Wanker, who "hands down justice unlike anyone else," the logline teases.

This is Lifetime’s second collaboration with McEntire who also starred in and executive produced her 2021 holiday film, Reba McEntire's Christmas in Tune.

The Hammer reunites McEntire with her Reba co-star Melissa Peterman and stars Kay Shioma Metchie and Rex Linn.

The film follows Kim Wheeler (McEntire), an outspoken, firecracker lawyer who is appointed Judge of the 5th District of Nevada and is one of the few traveling judges left in America.

This is not the only literary adaptation in the works at The CW.

We love City of Ghosts, V.E. Schwab's middle grade series about a girl who can see ghosts who is dragged to the most haunted places in the world by her ghost-hunter TV personality parents. Now, it's in development to get a CW TV adaptation!

According to Variety, The CW is developing the novel that will be a series as a TV show. If eventually picked up, the series will be a one-hour drama. Notably, The CW has aged protagonist Cassidy Blake up to the network's key demo age. In the books, Cassidy is 12; in the proposed CW adaptation, she will be college-aged.

According to the news announcement, Cassidy moves to Scotland not with her parents, but to study paranormal psychology at the University of Edinburgh "in hopes of learning more about her strange connection to the afterlife.

CW to Develop Victoria Schwab Novel ‘City of Ghosts’ as Drama Series (Exclusive)
The CW is developing a one-hour drama series based on the book “City of Ghosts” by Victoria Schwab, Variety has learned exclusively.

In the series, after a near-death experience, college grad Cassidy moves to Scotland to study paranormal psychology at the University of Edinburgh in hopes of learning more about her strange connection to the afterlife. There she meets the enigmatic Dr. Barrow and discovers that her gift is more powerful that she ever thought possible.

Karen Wyscarver and Sanford Golden serve as writers and executive producers on the adaptation. Their previous TV credits include “Taken,” “NCIS: New Orleans,” “Bones,” and “Bones.”

I. Marlene King, who developed and served as showrunner on the popular Freeform series “Pretty Little Liars,” will executive produce along with Lauren Wagner of King’s Long Lake Media. Long Lake Media will produce in association with Warner Bros. Television.
