While many are growing tired of remakes, there are some that stand out in the crowd, such as Timothée Chalamet's version of Willy Wonka in Wonka (2023). Most wouldn't say it was better than the original 1971 film, but its 82% Rotten Tomatoes score isn't bad. Perhaps that'll be the case forAmazon MGM Studios' reimagination of David Mamet's 1987 House of Games. To increase its chances of being good, Dcu stars Viola Davis (Suicide Squad), who is also an Academy Award winner, and Primetime Emmy Award winner Yahya Abdul-Mateen II(Aquaman)will lead and produce the upcoming project.
What can contribute to the success of a remake of a classic production? From ensuring not too much of the original story is changed to selecting the perfect cast, crew, and more, there has to be something that stands out. For this remake of House of Games, having a veteran star like Viola Davis...

A recent survey of 1,000 U.S. podcast consumers aged 15 to 64 reveals that 77% alternate between audio and video, a major shift towards a hybrid usage of the medium. Less than a quarter of consumers (23%) exclusively use audio or video.
Jay Nachlis, Vice President/Consultant at Coleman Insights, and Steve Goldstein, Founder/CEO at Amplifi Media, presented this data point and more findings from their study, “The State of Video Podcasting 2025,” during the keynote session at Podcast Movement Evolutions, held at Chicago’s McCormick Place Convention Center on Thursday, April 3rd at 9 Am.
The study additionally notes that there is little difference in the podcast consumption habits of younger and older users. “When we look at Gen Z podcast consumers between the ages of 15 and 29, 83% use audio and video interchangeably, only slightly higher than the general population. Video podcasts is not a young-leaning phenomenon,” says Nachlis.

Tim Allen's interview on Jimmy Kimmel in 2017 compared Hollywood to Nazi Germany, causing controversy and backlash. Allen's political views led to the cancelation of his show "Last Man Standing" despite high ratings. Allen later admitted to staying silent on his political views to avoid backlash, causing a shift in his career.
In the past, Jimmy Kimmel has hosted some controversial guests. We still can believe Kimmel had Donald Trump on the show, and the interview was actually surprisingly cordial looking back. He'll never bring Trump on again, but he has invited a few of his supporters in the past, and that includes Tim Allen. Looking back however, it seems like the chat did not benefit Tim Allen in any way, despite being honest about his take on politics at the time, and how they were shaping Hollywood.

For the first time ever, Americans are listening to more on-demand audio (like podcasts and music services) than live, linear audio (like radio), according to data from Edison Research released this week. Larry Rosin, the company's President, says that though there will always be a place for linear radio, the trend will continue into the future. What happens when Elon Musk mentions your podcast? Last week, a day after we mentioned it in Podnews, apparent Podnews reader Elon Musk (hi Elon) tweeted about Airwave's The Explorers Podcast, in a tweet that got 18 million views. Rephonic looks at the numbers to see what happened next. Business, true crime and comedy are the top categories increasing for podcast ad spend, says MediaRadar in a new study released this week. In a survey of 1,000 15- to 64-year-old podcast consumers in the United States, 75% say a podcast should be defined as “audio-only or available with video,” 22% say a podcast is “audio-only,” while 3% define a podcast as “video-only.” This insight is one of many surprising findings from a comprehensive new study focused on YouTube’s impact on the podcasting universe from media research firm Coleman Insights and podcast consultancy Amplifi Media.
Jay Nachlis, Vice President/Consultant at Coleman Insights, and Steve Goldstein, Founder/CEO at Amplifi Media, will debut the data from the research study titled “The New Rules of Podcasting on YouTube” at the conference’s keynote session at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center on Thursday, August 24th at 8:30Am.
According to Nachlis, the changing podcast definition finding is more remarkable when you dig into users of specific platforms. “It’s not just YouTube podcast users that are warm...

Amplifi Media, the strategic audio advisory firm, announces its CEO Steve Goldstein will teach a new course at NYU called The Business of Podcasting. As an adjunct professor at NYU’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, Goldstein will helm what is believed to be the only accredited college course focused on the business side of podcasting in the country.
The Music Business program in the Department of Music and Performing Arts Professions at NYU’s Steinhardt School will offer the course for the fall semester 2023. It is open to all NYU undergraduate students.
The Business of Podcasting covers economics, content, marketing, and trends. The Radio Advertising Bureau, announced today a new partnership with Amplifi Media with the goal of benchmarking the local marketplace’s podcast advertising revenue. Radio groups and stations are invited to participate in the "Local Podcast Opportunity" survey and provide insights into the challenges, opportunities, and revenue generating successes they’ve been able provide local advertising clients.
"We know that podcast advertising dollars continue to grow and we’re seeing good momentum at the local level, however, we have not been able to size the market up," said Erica Farber, president and CEO, Rab. "By partnering with Amplifi Media which has been at the advent and a leader in the podcast space, we hope to be able to provide broadcast radio a benchmark report that can show the growth and opportunities ahead."

This big screen, big star crowd-pleaser is a whopping entertainment yet too disjointed to satisfy as a gangster movie. It can ignore history to make its points, but what is gained by killing off the only characters we really love? Audiences didn’t feel shortchanged: Sean Connery and Robert De Niro deliver strong characterizations and Ennio Morricone’s music is ideal. Brian De Palma’s visual instincts are at full strength too; the show is marvelous to look at. It’s a real winner, at least when its not running in knee-jerk Scarface overkill mode.

Chicago – I am an unabashed defender of nearly everything that David Mamet has ever made and the arrival of another one of his films under the Criterion banner makes for a special occasion in this critic’s household. The new release of Mamet’s “Homicide” (1991) is a must-own for fans of one of the most important playwrights of the last fifty years and an underrated filmmaker as well.
DVD Rating: 4.0/5.0 Mamet's films almost always deal with figures of authority and men who try to achieve excellence within classic roles like teacher, salesman, or, in the case of "Homicide," police officer. Of course, Mamet isn't interested in a traditional "man in blue" story of good guy fighting crime, even if the film starts by promising such a structure. Ultimately, the fight in "Homicide" is an internal one.
Homicide was released on DVD on September 8th, 2009.
