TV today has large families like the Duggars of 19 Kids and Counting and the Gosselins of Jon and Kate Plus 8. But before reality shows, there were the Bradfords of Eight Is Enough. The comedy-drama series aired from 1977 to 1981. It was based on the life of syndicated newspaper columnist Tom Braden, who had eight children. He wrote a book, and ABC turned it into a successful TV series of the same name. So, which Eight Is Enough cast members are still alive?

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. The best things come to those who wait, and Big Ed Hurley (Everett McGill) has long been dreaming of the moment that opens Part 15 of Mark Frost and David Lynch's Twin Peaks revival. "I've been a selfish bitch to you all these years," says his one-eyed wife Nadine (Wendy Robie), who's walked a long way—a Dr. Jacoby/Dr. Amp gold, shit-digging shovel slung over her shoulder—to the cash-only Gas Farm that Ed has run for most of his life. She states the obvious: Ed is in love with Rr Diner propietor Norma Jennings (Peggy Lipton), and she, Nadine, has always stood in his way. Those days are finally over. Ed is reluctant to think of this as anything beyond another of his spouse's manic episodes.

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series.Much of David Lynch's work is about regression, or regressiveness, about people who are most comfortable when indulging (really, hiding behind) their baser instincts. An acid-jazz saxophonist with murder on his mind might take refuge in the body and soul of a teenage delinquent (Lost Highway), or a midwestern girl who has played and lost the Hollywood game might concoct a candy-colored dream-life in which she finally attains Tinseltown stardom (Mulholland Dr.). But these escapes always prove to be traps, and cyclical ones at that. What goes around comes around. What has happened before will happen again. Even Blue Velvet's Dorothy Vallens (Isabella Rossellini), finally liberated from her abusive sexual relationship with Frank Booth (Dennis Hopper), "still can see blue velvet through my tears.

You may not realize it, but Lara Flynn Boyle’s Donna — the heart of the original series, the activated burgeoning girl detective, my one true love — returned to Twin Peaks Sunday.
Where exactly was she in the show? Well, it’s complicated. First, her face appeared in an old framed photo (of Laura and Donna, from the original series) sitting on a side table in Sarah Palmer’s living room. Then her voice (it was indeed Boyle’s voice) wafted out over the Road House as James Hurley sang his sweet, crazy, retro 50’s ballad “Just You And I” from Season 2. (Yes,...

[Editor’s Note: The following review contains spoilers for “Twin Peaks: The Return,” Season 3, “Part 13” (Episode 13).]
No part of “Twin Peaks” is predictable, but the predominant theme of “Part 13” unveiled itself in a hurry: pie.
The delicious diner desert and its perfect beverage partner have been staples of David Lynch’s series since its inception, but rarely in “The Return” have we seen such intense focus on the healing power of a good slice and a few sips.
Cooper’s (Kyle MacLachlan) fixation on cherry pie, which already saved his life once, did so again (and from the same shop). A distraught Becky (Amanda Seyfried) calls her mother, Shelly (Madchen Amick), and the mere promise of pie turns her frown upside down. Later, Norma (Peggy Lipton) meets with Walter (Grant Goodeve) about her diner franchise’s performance, and she’s told the other pies aren’t as good as her own. Norma explains why — hers are made from all-natural ingredients — to which Walter responds, “Love doesn’t always turn a profit.

David Lynch today unveiled the full cast list for his upcoming Showtime Twin Peaks follow-up — and is it a doozy. Two hundred and seventeen actors are credited, with both newcomers and returning thespians. Previously only Kyle MacLachlan had been confirmed as FBI Agent Dale Cooper.
Will Agent Cooper use a smartphone?
Let’s check out some of the more interesting names on the list, shall we?
Michael Cera: The erstwhile Scott Pilgrim has been keeping busy since his breakout role as George Michael Bluth on Arrested Development, but he usually sticks with comedy (Year One, Superbad). It’ll be interesting to see him tackle something so dark.
Will this hair get frizzier in perpetually damp Twin Peaks?
Trent Reznor: The Oscar-winning composer and Nine Inch Nails wizard has only two credits under his belt (aside from three video shorts): a 2000 Swedish thriller called Recycled and the 1987 Michael J. Fox...

The re-release of director Greg Beeman's "License to Drive", the 1988 teen adventure film starring 'the two Coreys', Corey Haim and Corey Feldman, written by Neil Tolkin, will be available on DVD/Blu-ray, from Anchor Bay, November 22, 2011 :
"...'Les Anderson' (Haim), a 16-year-old who is trying to get his driver's license, has a crush on one of the more popular and attractive girls in school, 'Mercedes Lane' (Heather Graham). After failing his driver's exam, Les takes the road test (and passes), following a computer surge that he inadvertently caused.
"Les then lies to his parents and friends, convincing them that he passed the test. Unfortunately, his parents find out the truth and as a result, Les is grounded. That night, having already made plans to use his new license, he sneaks out of the house with his grandfather's prized 1972 Cadillac for a night on the town with Mercedes.

Well, At Least I Won't Get Called Poncy Again. I Hope....
As you read this week's column, I'll already be attending the Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour down in Pasadena, California. And before I've attended a single panel, I can already pretty much guarantee this is going to be one of the weaker (gay) tours in memory. For starters, CBS hasn't given us a single screener for their two new shows (which sound utterly conventional and appear to be gay free. Shock!) and even ABC which is reliably gay-friendly, doesn't have anything that looks terribly promising.
Honestly, Starz looks to be the best bet between Spartacus: Gods of the Arena and Torchwood, but since for some reason, Russell T Davies won't be available for me to interview during the TCA, even that won't take up quite as much as my time. Fortunately, Spartacus creator Steven S. DeKnight is available...

On this morning's edition of the Today Show, several of the castmembers of Eight Is Enough reunited for the first time in 20-30 years.
Eight Is Enough ran on ABC for five seasons, from 1977 until 1981. Based on a book Thomas Braden, the dramady centers around columnist Tom Bradford (Dick Van Patten), his wife Joan (Diana Hyland) and their eight children, played by Grant Goodeve, Lani O'Grady, Laurie Walters, Susan Richardson, Dianne Kay, Connie Newton, Willie Aames, and Adam Rich.
Hyland became ill and passed away shortly after the series debuted. She'd only filmed a handful of episodes and her character was written out of the rest of the season. When the show returned in the Fall of 1977, Tom was now a widower who fell for and later married Abby (Betty Buckley), his son Tommy's tutor.

'Today' is doing a special series of reunion shows, getting some famous TV families together again. First up: the cast of 'Eight Is Enough,' who appeared on the show this morning (video after the jump) to talk about their time on the show, what went on behind the scenes, what the dinner scenes were like, and how the show compares to what is on TV today.
Note: Meredith Vieira's intro to the interview is over the top. I really don't think that the end of the Vietnam War played such a crucial part in the show's success. And did they actually have to introduce each cast member separately and have them walk on stage to their chairs?
The cast members who appeared were Dick Van Patten, Betty Buckley, Grant Goodeve, Dianne Kay, Laurie Walters, Willie Aames, and Connie Needham.

Eight Is Enough's Needham Battling Cancer
Former child star Connie Newton Needham has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
The actress, who starred in 1970s U.S. TV show Eight Is Enough, has been working as a dance instructor at a Santa Margarita, California studio in recent years, but she has been forced to rest up after learning she was battling the deadly disease.
A post on the dance studio's website reads, "Connie is currently in a battle with ovarian cancer and is temporarily unable to work."
Needham, 49, is determined to fight the illness and has received words of support from her former TV co-stars.
A source tells the National Enquirer, "She has her old pals from Eight Is Enough - including Dick Van Patten, Grant Goodeve and old boyfriend Willie Aames - rooting for her. Connie says she's going to fight as hard as she can."...
