A lawsuit over the sale of A3 Artists Agency to Gersh has been resolved.

Former agency partners Robert Atterman and Brian Cho, who accused majority owner Adam Bold of duping them into signing away their rights to stop the acquisition, moved on Wednesday to dismiss the case after a settlement was reached between the two sides in A3’s bankruptcy proceedings.

The 2023 lawsuit detailed chaos at A3 as it confronted an exodus of agents and their clients to competing firms amid alleged mismanagement of company funds, sexual misconduct and drug abuse by Bold. It sought to block the sale of the company’s most profitable divisions to Gersh, claiming that Bold sold the company well-below market value.

The recent teaser trailer for Season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is not only exciting, but it also reminds us that Strange New Worlds is very much a prequel to the original Star Trek from 1966. With that comes a lot of overlap in characters between the two shows, with numerous Tos characters appearing in the main cast or as guest stars on Snw.

There are so many Tos characters across its 79 official episodes, however, that there is plenty of room to explore even more. While obvious untapped characters to feature might be the likes of Chekov, Sulu, or Dr. McCoy, it would be exciting to see some other characters from Tos appear. Peacock continues its cancellation streak with its coming-of-age Satanic Panic thriller series “Hysteria!” after one season, Variety reports. The news arrives just weeks after the streamer canceled sci-fi horror series “Teacup“.

The series premiered in October 2024, and all eight episodes are now available to stream.

Written and executive produced by Matthew Scott Kane (Stitchers) and David Goodman (The Orville), “Hysteria!” highlights America’s dark history of mass hysteria through ’80s Satanic Panic. It’s framed through a teen coming-of-age story centered around a trio of high school misfits caught up in a wave of dangerous hysteria.

Revisiting the Satanic Panic craze is going to be a limited affair for Peacock, news that will surely disappoint many fans of Evil Dead icon Bruce Campbell.

Per Variety, Peacock has canceled Hysteria! after just one season. The series premiered on Peacock in October after it was ordered to series in 2022 with production happening in 2023. Notably, Hysteria! has high acclaim with a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes, so the show getting canceled is clearly not due to a lack of quality. While viewership numbers for Hysteria! have not been revealed by the streaming platform, it's likely that the show didn't perform strongly enough on Peacock to warrant a renewal. The series never cracked Nielsen's weekly Top 10 streaming charts.

Things have taken a hellish turn for the horror-comedy Hysteria!, which has been cancelled at Peacock after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.

The cancellation comes nearly four months after Hysteria!‘s first — and now only — eight-episode season released on Oct. 18, 2024.

The Peacock horror thriller series “Hysteria!” has been canceled after just one season, Variety has learned exclusively.

The show aired its one and only season at the streamer in October 2024. It had originally been ordered to series in August 2022 and began production in 2023, but was forced to shut down after filming just a few episodes due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes. It eventually resumed production in late 2023.

Peacock does not release viewership data for its shows, so it is difficult to gauge exactly how many people watched “Hysteria!” However, the show did not make an appearance on the weekly Nielsen Top 10 streaming charts upon its release. It was well-received by critics though, holding a 91% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Cbr sat down with Kane and Goodman to explore if they had any personal experiences with the Satanic Panic that helped form the idea for Hysteria! and how they feel it never really left. How did they break new ground utilizing infamous history?

Cbr: Hysteria! takes place during a very specific time in history, when the unknown ruled the masses and created fear.

What marks the devil? Is it a hulking figure with burnt skin and massive horns? Is it a personal enemy or unseen force? What is hell, if not a high school hallway, haunted by inner and outer demons that can only be escaped when you walk out the door?

It might be all of that, as it is in Peacock’s “Hysteria!” created by Matthew Scott Kane. In the 1980s bliss of suburban Michigan, a the high school quarterback has disappeared, a bloody pentagram left in his wake. Dylan Campbell (Emjay Anthony) gets mistaken for a Satanist by the popular Judith (Jessica Treska) because he plays in a heavy metal band with friends, so they pose as Satanists to become popular. But as fear of the occult grips the town of Happy Hollow, the innocent teens become prime suspects, and a powerful force takes root that threatens everyone.

Just in time for a Halloween binge, Hysteria! is now available on Peacock and, having seen most of the series already, I can definitely say that it's worth your time. An 80s-set horror story that doesn't feel like it's focused on nostalgia, Hysteria! has a great cast with great chemistry, and it really does a great job of building up its characters, including its supporting cast, which features Bruce Campbell as the chief of police in a town where satanic panic takes hold. Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Kezii Curtis are three friends whose efforts to break free from being outcasts leads to them becoming the targets of their small town in Hysteria!. Though having different starts to their careers, both Anthony and Aurelia had early success in the horror genre, with the former having starred in both the well-received horror-comedy Krampus and Aaron Eckhart-led Incarnate, while the latter starred in both Mike Flanagan's Gerald's Game adaptation and Fear Street Part Two: 1978. Curtis, on the other hand, is better known for his young-demographic-skewing fare, most recently including the Owen Wilson-starring Secret Headquarters.

David A. Goodman wrote The Autobiography of James T. Kirk (2015), The Autobiography of Jean-Luc Picard (2017), and The Autobiography of Mr. Spock (2020). He has been been a dedicated fan of Star Trek, having also written for Star Trek: Enterprise, and he was responsible for bringing Seth MacFarlane aboard the Enterprise for a brief role. [via Trekmovie] It's safe to say that there isn't much he doesn't love about Star Trek, and his love hearkens back to The Original Series because of its originality.

Peacock’s upcoming series Hysteria! shows a town in the grips of a Satanic Panic — emphasis on the “satanic” part.

The streamer has released a full trailer for the show, which premieres Oct. 18 and centers on three high schoolers (Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia and Kezii Curtis) whose heavy-metal band decides to lean into the fear caused when the high school quarterback goes missing and a pentagram is painted on the teen’s garage. Their makeover as satanists, however, unleashes forces — both among their peers and, possibly, with something otherworldly — that soon spin out of their control.

Set to the catchy tunes of Belinda Carlisle's 1987 hit single "Heaven is a Place on Earth," the official teaser video and poster for Peacock's new series Hysteria! has arrived, welcoming viewers to one "hell of a town" where Satanic Panic leads to all manner of macabre mayhem in the late 1980s.

All episodes of Hysteria! will be available on Peacock beginning October 18th. Additionally, USA Network and Syfy will air the first episode on October 18th, with subsequent episodes airing each following Friday on USA Network, giving viewers several options to watch the new series that stars Julie Bowen and also features Bruce Campbell as a recurring guest star.

What We Know About Hysteria! So Far

The series follows a group of high school misfits who see an opportunity in the growing fear surrounding their supposed occult activity. Hysteria! will have eight 60-minute episodes, all of which will drop on premiere day.

Peacock, fresh off its huge Olympics surge, is transitioning back to its regular offerings — including a 1980s-set thriller revolving around the Satanic Panic of the era.

The streamer has released a teaser and set an Oct. 18 premiere date for Hysteria!, a drama in which a high-school heavy metal band decides to capitalize on the panic — then find themselves in deeper than they meant to be. In addition to streaming on Peacock, the series premiere will simulcast on USA Network and Syfy; USA will also air subsequent episodes on Friday nights.

Julie Bowen is returning to TV in Peacock’s “Hysteria!” and things are getting spooky, that is, if they’re even real.

In the teaser for “Hysteria!,” released Monday, the “Modern Family” star goes about her day cooking and cleaning as a 1980s housewife until a strange interruption causes the lights to flicker and her house to shake.

By the time the event stops, Bowen thinks she’s in the clear — until she spots the face of a demon in her microwave, which proceeds to splatter into red globs.

The new series, which also stars Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”) and Bruce Campbell (“The Evil Dead,” “Army of Darkness”), will debut on Friday, Oct. 18, on Peacock, USA Network and Syfy. Life in post-strike Hollywood was definitely a topic of conversation at Sunday’s Writers Guild Awards, with former WGA West president David Goodman saying “the strike is over, the fight goes on” while adding “as individuals we’re replaceable.”

That sentiment has never been more applicable than now, as the ongoing contraction in Hollywood continues to impact how many writers remain out of work since walking off the picket line in September.

In March, Deadline kicked off a Hollywood Contraction series by checking in with the above and below-the-line communities to see whether opportunities have picked up since the end of the strikes.

The Writers Guild of America resurfaced its 2023 strike in a comedy bit that unfurled at the union’s Los Angeles awards ceremony Sunday night.

More than half a year after the union ended its 148-day strike, the union spoofed the top negotiator representing studios and streamers during those talks, Carol Lombardini, in a raunchy and at times brutal routine at the Hollywood Palladium. Nearly an hour into the union’s annual awards ceremony and between awards presentations, host Niecy Nash-Betts began interacting with an image of “Lombardini” on a screen behind her. (Only the mouth of the image moved, and the rest was static.)

The David Hemingson-scripted Alexander Payne dramedy The Holdovers and Cord Jefferson’s American Fiction were the big film winners at the strike-delayed 2024 Writers Guild Awards, which were handed out Sunday in Los Angeles and New York.

Jefferson — who also was honored with the WGA West’s Paul Selvin Award — followed his Oscar win for Adapted Screenplay as the WGA’s weird, wild and elongated Awards season wrapped with simultaneous ceremonies on both coasts. Hemingson scored a modicum of revenge for losing the Original Screenplay Academy Award to Justine Triet and Arthur Harari for Anatomy of a Fall.

The latter script, however, wasn’t eligible for a Writers Guild Award. That’s because, unlike other guilds, the WGA deems ineligible any scripts for movies not produced under its Minimum Basic Agreement or a bona fide collective bargaining agreement with various affiliated countries.

The writers strike ended seven months ago, but memories of the picket lines were fresh at the WGA Awards tonight.

As the guild gave out awards to scribes, speaker after speaker brought up the 148-day WGA strike as well as the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Chris Keyser and David Goodman, the veteran showrunners who steered the five-month Writers Guild of America strike last year, warned guild members on Sunday to stay vigilant in a fast-changing business landscape despite the gains of last year’s historic labor action.

“Though this strike is over, the fight goes on. If we take our eye off the ball, everything we gained can literally go away tomorrow,” Goodman told the crowd at the Writers Guild Awards at the Hollywood Palladium.

Goodman and Keyser served as co-chairs of the WGA’s negotiating commttee last year. The pair, both past presidents of the WGA West, were honored with the guild’s Morgan Cox Awards for dedicated service.

“Nothing is given to labor that it does not demand,” Keyser told the crowd.

‘Succession’ has gone out with one final bang: The HBO drama won two Writers Guild of America Awards on Sunday night — the most of any series — for best drama series and also for best drama episode. Creator Jesse Armstrong was on hand in New York to accept the award, while several of the show’s writers were also in LA to accept the honor.

This reps the final major awards show where “Succession” (which ended its run last May) was still eligible. Besides best drama, the show also won the episodic drama prize, for the episode “Living+,” written by Georgia Pritchett and Will Arbery.

The WGA Awards recognized the best of 2023’s television and film via its annual event held this year at the Hollywood Palladium for the West Coast edition and at New York’s Edison Ballroom for the East Coast ceremony.
