Two journeyman with ethnic roots from the African continent to the Orient in entertainment come together for Cinema. Afro Asian fusion with a mix of Black and Yellow soul birthed the name of the newly formed Kiirokuro Productions, however both production heads held a secret. They both had a deep love for movies. Asua Han and Kelvin are dynamic duo with enormous endeavours underway and we had a chance to sit with the Tyrese Gibson of this Fast & Furious team, Kelvin Taylor.
What inspired you both to start Film Fu?
Were both nerds and apart of Cinema fandom! My brother Michael had VHS Towers to the ceilings, that turned into a DVD man cave. Asua and I were both 80’s born with 80’s & 1990’s raised. So we grew up in the cusp of Modern Day Americana! The world was a much more united place bc of the fundamentals of family and saving the planet.

Kathleen Kennedy has managed to remain president of Lucasfilm despite numerous challenges and changes, continuing to oversee the Star Wars franchise in partnership with Disney. As the head of the franchise, she plays a crucial role in shaping its future, with every project needing her approval, regardless of opinions about her management style.
Her influence is significant, and while many fans criticize her, blaming her for the franchise’s perceived decline in success, it’s unlikely that she alone is responsible. Despite this, a considerable number of fans are eager to see her step down. According to a recent rumor, Kennedy is open to retirement but has one condition that may not sit well with her critics.

Kathleen Kennedy was able to “survive” as the president of Lucasfilm in spite of all the upheavals and shifting that took place there, and she continues to oversee the Star Wars franchise in association with Disney. Kennedy continues to be the head of the franchise and one of the most important persons in terms of Star Wars’ future, regardless of your feelings about her managerial style.
This is the reason why she is so influential and why she has so much to say about the future of the franchise in general, i.e., why every project first has to go through her. Still, many fans are constantly criticizing her and are claiming that she is the sole reason why the Star Wars franchise is not as successful as it was.
And while she definitely had a role to play in all of this, it is unlikely that she is the only reason for it,...

It’s no secret that MCU’s Phase 4 struggled significantly, holding the lowest approval rating in the franchise with most projects deemed “mediocre” at best. It’s forever going to be remembered for gems like She-Hulk and Eternals, Phase 5 appears to be on a better trajectory, largely supported by successful projects such as Deadpool & Wolverine, Loki, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
However, it was the disastrous performance of The Marvels that prompted major changes within the studio. Bob Iger himself acknowledged that Marvel will be scaling back its creative output and prioritizing quality over quantity, implicitly admitting the film’s shortcomings.
Recent rumors from Chris Gore, founder of Film Threat, shared via Critical Drinker’s YouTube channel, suggest that in response to the poor results of Phase 4, Feige and other Marvel executives have quietly “cleaned house,” firing producers who could be considered activists.
I do know people who work at Marvel.

It’s no secret that MCU’s Phase 4 was kind of a mess. The phase has the lowest approval rating in the cinematic universe, with the majority of the projects considered “mediocre” at best. Phase 4 gave us gems like ‘She-Hulk’ and ‘Eternals,’ and by the early looks of it, phase 5 already looks like it’s shaping up to be better mostly carried on the shoulders of ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ ‘Loki’ and ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.’ – all projects deemed successful.
We know that it was however the catastrophic failure of ‘The Marvels’ that kickstarted some major changes within the studio. Iger himself commented that they will be reducing their creative output in the years to come, and focusing more on quality over quantity – indirectly admitting that the movie was – bad.

Warner Bros. is shifting gears from the cavalcade of clips and TV spots for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice today to roll out the film’s first, complete featurette.
In partnership with Turkish Airlines, the snippet not only features Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill trumpeting the appeal of Gotham and Metropolis, respectively – most of which we’ve seen before – but director Zack Snyder also gives a brief overview of the superhero dust-off. And what it means for the DC universe going forward.

Cinequest, Silicon Valley’s creativity and film institute turns twenty-five, with a heightened focus on the future and its exciting possibilities. It's unique nature and cumulative impact are the result of a powerful fusion of creativity, filmmaking and technological innovation—significantly transforming our future. To celebrate its legacy, as well as its future, Cinequest announced two powerful youth-meet visionary experiences: The Picture the Possibilities Summit and the Future of Film Showcase.
Picture the Possibilities Summit
On February 28th, global youth, scientists, artists and luminaries will gather at the Picture the Possibilities Summit to explore the theme of Creative Confidence.
Picture The Possibilities. Picture It. Create It. Picture The Possibilities (Ptp), by Cinequest, empowers youth across the globe with the inspiration, tools, and confidence to form and create their dreams—from art to science—regardless of their circumstances and challenges. Ptp provides youth with the following opportunities and creative power:
• In Ptp City Sessions (across the globe) youth experience the 7 Powers of Creating program that teaches them how to create anything, from art to science. They practice this power by making films (with mentors), an optimal medium through which they can experience bringing an idea or vision to reality. Seeing how to bring a picture from an idea into reality, they can then apply this creative process to other aspects of their lives and dreams. Ptp also creates personal profiles on each participant, sharing their stories and dreams with the world.
• On-line services via the Ptp Channel and Ptp Site, where youth access Ptp Show, youth movies and profiles, plus the 7 Powers Of Creating videos and book.
• Picture The Possibilities Summit: Creativity is equally important to innovators and scientists, as it is to artists. At Ptp Summit Silicon Valley, global youth connect with luminaries to share their creations and empower each other and, in turn, our future. The Ptp Summit celebrates and fosters the creative force of science, technology and art. Ptp youth and these select luminaries picture possibilities, then set forward on a quest to create them. The 2015 Ptp Summit will take place at the California Theatre in San Jose/Silicon Valley, from 3pm to 5pm, exploring the theme of Creative Confidence.
Here is the Picture The Possibilities Summit video.
Picture The Possibilities empowers youth to express a personal reality, to picture/imagine a desired future, and to tap into their creative powers to make that dream real. It emboldens, inspires, and offers opportunities for improved lives and, by extension, an improved world, forged from the collective powers of creativity and innovation.
The Future of Film Showcase at the Cinequest Film Festival (Cqff)
"I think the most important thing about Cinequest is it's definitely the first time I've ever come to a festival where my immediate reaction is, 'What do I have to do to be invited back?' and that's not normally my reaction. It's a perfect film festival in a glorious place." - Neil Gaiman, Maverick Spirit Award Winner
Cqff announces the addition of the Future of Film Showcase, consisting of three intersecting elements:
1. Youth Film Exhibitions:cqff builds the world’s largest youth film discovery exhibition, comprised of high school and college film competitions, as well as youth films from Cinequest’s Picture The Possibilities.

Cinequest to Date - Powering Our Future
Cinequest fuses the world of creativity and film with the unique creativity of Silicon Valley, empowering visionary youth, artists and innovators to conceive and connect...and drive transformation to build a better tomorrow. Cinequest nonprofit institute serves through Picture The Possibilities, and Cinequest Film Festival (Cqff).
Cinequest’s legacy is realized through empowering artists, innovators, as well as individuals from all walks of life. Five aspects define the Cinequest legacy: 1) Innovation 2) Inspiration 3) Connection 4) Discovery and 5) Creativity.
Power of Innovation
Widely regarded as “the future of film,” Cinequest continues to showcase awe-inspiring technologies and innovators that continually reshape and redefine media and the media arts. The history of firsts unveiled to the world at Cinequest include: numerous digital filmmaking technologies that revolutionized and democratized access and opportunity; Internet film distribution and delivery; digital film projection and servers; smart phone mobile cinema, a quantum leap, distribution solution for festival favorites; the first online film festival, and much more. At Cqff, we have presented many of the geniuses and envelope-pushing innovators who have opened doors to opportunity and widened access, enhancing quality and expanding the range and impact of an entirely new sphere of creators.
Power of Inspiration
Nothing empowers like fueled inspiration. Inspiration burns from within and can often ignite the creative fires in others. Cinequest thrives on providing inspiration, through Maverick luminaries’ conversations and stimulating documentaries. Cqff’s most prestigious award, the Maverick Spirit, celebrates the boldness and originality of both the Silicon Valley and filmmaking creator.
Maverick Innovator Award events have included Marty Cooper (“father” of the cell phone) as well as dozens of innovators who have revolutionized filmmaking, exhibition and distribution.
Power of Connection
The Silicon Valley promotes and fosters inclusive access to knowledge and the means to connect people and ideas. At Cinequest there is a profound commitment to not just welcoming people from all
walks of life, cultures, economics, and age, but to facilitate these connections in a variety of avenues, such as casual and inviting forums, friendly, engaging lounges and venues and entertaining and inspiring events.
Cinequest’s critical fulfillment of this service of connection would be impossible without the more than 700 Volunteers and 50 Interns that annually provide Cinequest’s incomparable customer service; over 1M volunteer-hours, enabling artists, audiences and individuals from all walks of life to connect and empower one another.
Power of Discovery
Cqff, often recognized as the “last big bastion of discover,” continues to focus on discovering talented, new film art and artists, and the complementary innovations that support these creative visions. Highlights of Cqff’s more than two decades history include:
• Over 7,000 Artists & Innovators from 55 countries • Over 1,200 film premieres • Seventy-five percent of the film premieres are genuine, discovery films/artists resulting from submissions, rather than previously exhibited works. • Over one million film lovers experienced film screenings and artist presentations at Cqff—with over 75 Million discovering festival favorites through Cinequest Distribution and Cinequest’s Online Film Festival. This year over 100,000 people are expected to connect in unique, state-of-the-art venues, all within a 4-block radius.
• Cinequest has premiered the early work and helped launch or further the careers of scores of artists, including Ben Affleck, Mira Sorvino, Darren Aronofsky and Rene Zellweger.
• Cinequest Inc. discovers and nurtures emerging talent, having mentored over 5,000 aspiring filmmaker high school and college students—providing professional training and experience that would otherwise have been unavailable.
Power of Creating
Cqff’s sister organization, Picture The Possibilities by Cinequest (Ptp), empowers global youth with the tools and inspiration to realize their dreams, within the arts and/or sciences, through a process called the 7 Powers Of Creating. Youth from around the world employ this 7 Powers process via shorts filmmaking, what we consider the optimal means to develop and realize a picture (idea) into a reality.
Previous Maverick Spirit Award honorees have included J.J. Abrams, Harrison Ford, Kevin Spacey, Sir Ben Kingsley, Alec Baldwin, Minnie Driver, Spike Lee, Gus Van Sant, Sir Ian McKellen, and Neil Gaiman.
Great films connect us to vastly interesting worlds, immersing us in previously unexplored cultures, perspectives, ideas, and ways of life. The Silicon Valley similarly connects the world via various technologies, providing unlimited information and creating communication portals between friends and strangers, individuals and communities.
Since its inception, Ptp has served thousands of youth in Beijing, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Mexico City, New York City, San Diego, Los Angeles, and the Silicon Valley. Ptp has also created 10 e-learning videos on the 7 Powers of Creating process, a 7 Powers Of Creating book, a weekly Ptp Youtube show, plus hundreds of youth-generated films and other creative projects. For further detail, please see www.picturethepossibilities.org.
Cqff’s 25th Anniversary Theme, The Power Of Creating, celebrates the creative process and urges participants to activate their personal creative powers.

With rumors flying fast and furious as Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamill were spotted in London yesterday, Disney/Lucasfilm had to pull the trigger on their Star Wars casting announcement. A photo of the first table read for Episode VII was released along with the full cast list. And the Internet promptly exploded. As it does. Here were some of the best responses in order of amusement to me in no particular order #1 - We all know our relationship with Star Wars is like First Love™. Star Wars is like love cuz I want to believe in it but I've been hurt so many times but I can't stop needing it but I don't know anymore. — Mike Drucker (@MikeDrucker) April 29, 2014 #2 - Adam Driver is the villain and nothing is more universally reviled than folk music. And I assume Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver will perform a folk number called "Please,...

Charles Pinion exists at a unique transection of the modern underground film scene.
A pioneer of the Analog Video Feature Film movement. (That never materialized.) Interaction with the Cinema of Transgression, but not a part of it. Screened back-to-back features at the then-nascent Chicago Underground Film Festival.
He’s been there. He’s done that.
To date, he’s made just three feature films. (Although, hard at work on finishing up his fourth.) And all three — Twisted Issues, Red Spirit Lake and We Await — deserve to be freshly rediscovered and recontextualized. These films put out vibes that stretch out and can be felt in work by makers such as Calvin Lee Reeder, Bob Moricz, Waylon Bacon and others, whether they were specifically influenced by them or not.
All of Pinion’s films can be purchased on DVD from the filmmaker’s website. Gross. Surreal. Unsettling. If that’s your bag...

Doomed: The Untold Story of Roger Corman’s he Fantastic Four.
Here’s the official press release:
In 1994, Roger Corman was tapped to produce this Marvel superhero story on a very small film budget. Rumors and speculation surrounding the production have become as much a part of the lore as the film itself.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of Roger Corman’s edition of The Fantastic Four and finally, all of the secrets, stories and legal shenanigans that have kept this a ‘lost’ film will be revealed through in-depth, investigative interviews with the cast and crew.

It’s a mixed bag for Simon and Kate this time. In a week with several notable season finales, some live up to expectations and some live down. After breezing through Kate’s Roundup, we look at the rest of the week, taking particular time with the Fringe finale, Mad Men, Sherlock, and, one final time, Smash, which also aired its season finale. Then we spotlight the season finale of Parks and Rec, “Win, Lose, or Draw” before welcoming Chris Gore from Attack of the Show back on, this time to the DVD Shelf, where we look at Chris Morris and Charlie Brooker’s 2005 cult series, Nathan Barley.
Other shows covered this week: Cougar Town, The Voice finale, the Around the World in 80 Plates premiere, Community, The Vampire Diaries finale, Supernatural, the Himym finale, the New Girl finale, 30 Rock, Eagleheart, Awake, Bob’s Burgers, Girls, and Veep.

Why Watch? Good old Chris Gore posted this micro-short up on twitter a while back, and it hit home (probably because of an unexplained fear of public restrooms). In it, a young pair of schoolgirl legs is attacked viciously by a monster who’s called Inky for a reason. It’s little more than a showcase of an interesting practical effect, but it works in a twisted way, and it’s absurdly hilarious for a split second. Or maybe that’s just the fear talking again. It’s outrageous and over-the-top without really showing a single thing. Since it’s this short, it only gets to throw one punch, but it throws it hard. What will it cost? Only 1 minute. Skip Work. You’ve Got Time For More Short Films.

What were the main Twiitter talking points during the Oscars ceremony?
Twitter was abuzz with commentary throughout Sunday night, as practically every minor detail of the Oscars broadcast was dissected, joked about, bickered over and elevated into minor Twitterstorm status within seconds. Here are just a few of the highlights (and lowlights) that might have passed you by.

DreamWorks' Fright Night panel started off with more Twilight bashing as moderator Chris Gore called it the "badass blood-thirsty panel." True vampire fans aren't necessarily Twilight fans, it's clear. Underworld: Awakening screened footage (also in 3-D) before the Fright Night panel, with "Grandmother of Vampires" Kate Beckinsale (she gladly wears the title) talking about her "shiny bottom": no Twilight glitter. The moderator thanked her for appearing naked in the footage. And that's all we'll say about that franchise. Remember Chris Gore's 90s online film mag Film Threat? Well new publisher and editor-in-chief Mark Bell bought it in 2010 from Gore and now, bucking current trends, plans to turn it into a quarterly $4.99 glossy print publication, launching in September. According to Folio, FilmThreat.com gets about 250,000 page views a week. Media giant Gannett, the largest U.S. newspaper publisher as measured by total daily circulation, confirmed Tuesday that it will lay off 700 employees. Revenue is still down and the company is laying off 3% of employees at newspapers like The Courier-Journal of Louisville, the Cincinnati Enquirer, and the Indianapolis Star.

Before Google, there was Factsheet 5.
Factsheet 5 was a magazine published in the ’80s and ’90s that listed about a gazillion hand-produced, personal ‘zines in every issue. It came out a couple times a year and, if you were interested in zines, it was like discovering the Holy Grail each and every time.
You’d pour through each issue, highlight a couple zines that sounded cool, send off a couple of bucks to each publisher, then wait a few weeks for the goodies to arrive in your mailbox. That might sound like a long, irritating process in these Internet instant opinion days, but it was quite fun and it was one of the only ways at the time to commune with people who had similar interests as yours all over the country.

In February, I reported that Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, the screenwriting/directing team credited with ruining the spoof movie genre (Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, Scary Movie series, Date Movie) were filming a new movie in Shreveport, La under the working title "La Art Movie". We were the first to reveal at the time that the movie was not a spoof on the indie film genre (a la Chris Gore's 2005 movie My Big Fat Independent Movie) but actually something spoofing Twilight and the recent Vampire trend. 20th Century Fox has finally released a trailer for Vampires Suck, which is set to hit theaters on August 18th 2010. Also, /Film reader Garn B informs me that the entire movie has already leaked onto the bit torrent websites. Chris Gore shared this on Twitter yesterday and I had to pass it on. We all know the oily mess that the Bp drilling expotion has caused. Here's just sa little light-hearted humor that mashes up Bp exec. Tony Hayward and his big mouth mashing up against Star Wars' Admiral Piett from the Imperial Fleet.
I have family and friends that live on the coast and this is no laughing matter but I thought something small like this might make a few people smile. Exectutives really eventually do get it in the end!
This is for all the little people, that's what Hayward called us who live here!

How many movies based on the Wizard of Oz mythology will you tolerate in the next few years? Right now I'm counting at least six in development, including this new, out-of-nowhwere project from Mark and Michael Polish (The Astronaut Farmer), simply titled Oz. Nobody seems to have had heard about this faithful-looking version of L. Frank Baum's stories until a teaser was posted to YouTube yesterday (and tweeted by Film Threat's Chris Gore) with a caption claiming that it comes to us from the Polish brothers and it's set to hit theaters in 2011. As for the content of the video, all it shows us is a young Dorothy and a hardly anthropomorphic Cowardly Lion walking slowly and curiously down a hall in an apparently deserted place.
Coming from someone who appreciates -- and would watch in marathon form right now if I had the time -- every Baum adaptation...

With all the news flying around this week about Sam Raimi directing Oz:Great and Powerful, and Glee's Lea Michele voicing Dorothy in the animated Dorothy of Oz, you guys have got to be getting pretty sick of hearing about the girl from Kansas and her unlikely cohorts. Alas, there is yet another film taking place around Emerald City and the HeyUGuys blog across the pond has the scoop. This film, simply titled Oz, is hardly more than a rumor, but a brief video (which looks a bit like some test footage or pitch material) tells us that Mark and Michael Polish are working on getting this one going. Chris Gore of Film Threat fame posted a link to the video on his Twitter account, a video you should probably watch quickly just in case this isn't something we're supposed to know about yet. In amongst all the talk of Raimi and Downey Jr. travelling to Oz, there may well be another journey over the rainbow in our future.
Mark and Michael Polish made an impression in 1999 with their Sundance debut Twin Falls Idaho and have continued to make some interesting and unique films, The Astronaut Farmer with Billy Bob Thornton is one example and their recent film Stay Cool with Winona Ryder, Sean Astin and Josh Holloway made waves at Tribeca a year ago and following a showing in Cannes is expected into cinemas this year.
So, with that context what are we to make of this short video, which was pointed out by Chris Gore on Twitter a few hours ago. With the simple and unambiguous text on Youtube proclaiming,
Polish Brothers’ Oz, based on the beloved children’s classic by L. Frank Baum. Hitting screens everywhere in 2011.

In Hollywood's foreshortened, weekend-to-weekend version of reality, "it was before its time" means a film that tested poorly nevertheless hit a box-office jackpot, garnered raves and/or awards or - at the very least - scored a last-minute surge in DVD sales. There are a lot of these delicious success stories in Rebels on the Backlot, journalist Sharon Waxman's portrait of a micro-generation of filmmakers who emerged amid the heavily corporatized, sequel-driven Hollywood machine of the 1990s to make more or less original films.
If we had any lingering illusions that the independent film was the bastion of art for art's sake, Chris Gore's The Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide quickly dispels this notion. In one of the book's nuts-and-bolts Q&As, Sundance Film Festival director Geoff Gilmore compares the newest crop of indie filmmakers to "the '90s professional athlete - very interested in what's in it for them,...

At first glance it appears that Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg, the screenwriting/directing team credited with ruining the spoof movie genre (Disaster Movie, Meet the Spartans, Epic Movie, Scary Movie series, Date Movie) have run out of material in the Hollywood genre world and are now going to take aim at the Los Angeles independent scene with a new movie titled La Art Movie. Ugh. Chris Gore already beat them to it with My Big Fat Independent Movie in 2005. No information is known about the plot, but chances are there isn't much of one (I'm only half-joking). I'm guessing that the film will probably take on Swingers and... ummm... Is the La indie film really topical enough to spoof?I've heard that the film might actually be a cover for a spoof feature film taking on the popular teen vampire series Twilight, which would make a lot more sense.

Paul Rachman, whose feature documentary American Hardcore, premiered at Sundance in 2006 and then was sold to Sony Classics, penned a 17-page chapter of Chris Gore's Ultimate Film Festival Survival Guide. Here are some of the tips listed in the chapter: - Your festival preparation starts the day you find out you have been accepted. Do not start sending the entire film to potential distributors, exhibitors or press; they will ask you for this, but it will most always work to your disadvantage. Let...

Think you have what it takes to make it as a filmmaker? Hollywood Film Festival, which runs October 21-26, 2009, is now accepting entries in the categories of comedy, drama, and horror features, documentaries, shorts, and music videos.
Specifically with regard to horror, the Hff has formed an alliance with Chris Gore of Film Threat to showcase and celebrate genre cinema during the Hollywood Horror, Sci-Fi and Fantasy Showcase™, which will feature films from both emerging filmmakers and film masters along with special events and parties. The Showcase will take place during the Hollywood Film Festival on October 24, 25, and 26.
Gore had this to say about his new partnership: "Film festivals have always been very supportive of alternative and fringe indies. Unfortunately, genre films of the sci-fi, fantasy, and horror genre often get left out of festival programs. How will we discover the next Peter Jackson if festivals do not support young filmmakers who create fantastic visions?...
