Dave Gorman is bringing Modern Life Is Goodish back after a seven year hiatus – and it’s started in February 2025.
In 2013, comedian Dave Gorman took his brand of observational, PowerPoint based comedy to the small screen in Modern Life Is Goodish for Dave, in which he put varies aspects of 21st century life under the microscope, from queuing at the bar to adverts.
Gorman ended the show after six series in 2017 due to the pressure of the intense workload, putting together six hour long stand up shows and doing the PowerPoint slides to go with it.
However, after a seven year hiatus, Dave, which will soon be rebranded as U&Dave, has confirmed that the show will be back for a sixth series comprising of four hour long episodes.
Update: We now have a transmission date, too. The show will return on 24th February 2025.

Warning: contains, well, would you call them spoilers? Anyway, those.
Taskmaster’s weekly prize task involves each contestant bringing in an item that responds to the same prompt (Most Powerful Smell/Best Chair/Most Important Document…) in the hope of winning the lot at the end of the episode. It’s the first task of every show, a chance for the comedians to land a punchline early doors, and points-wise, to bag what series 15 runner-up Ivo Graham might refer to as “a Sweet Five”.
All that time to plan the perfect response! What a boon for swots and “Be Prepared” types, you might think. Sometimes. And sometimes not. The capricious nature of the Taskmaster’s scoring logic often finds painstakingly honed prize task entries sent away with a single point while zero-thought efforts delivered with conviction sail off with the big money. And by big money, we mean framed photographs of Frankie Boyle’s children,...

Imagine being someone who’s never seen Taskmaster. A virgin to joy. Someone whose eyes have never before drunk in the sight of a banana-Noel Fielding hiding in a fruit bowl, of Joe Wilkinson presenting the mayor of Chesham with 42 Calippo ice lollies, or of Charlotte Ritchie stumbling around a golf course blindfolded like an adorable Minion. What promise awaits! The prize tasks, the flashes of creative genius, the glorious failures… Alex Horne’s challenge-based comedy panel show is one of the most reliably entertaining TV programmes ever made.

Without comedy panel show Taskmaster, the world would be a worse place. There’d be no Tree Wizard, no Bob Mortimer-designed pork pie presentation unit, a great deal less footage of the brilliant weirdness of Sally Phillips, Josh Widdicombe wouldn’t have a Greg Davies foot tattoo and the mayor of Chesham would never have been presented with the rare gift of 42 Calippos.
Created by Alex Horne and developed for television from his 2010 Edinburgh Fringe show, Taskmaster brings extreme and silly joy; it is to be cherished.
Nine series of the show that pits comedians against absurd and pointless challenges to see just how their minds work have aired on Dave since 2015. This year, it’s packing up and moving to a new home on Channel 4, a move confirmed in November 2019 with these words from Alex on the official website:

Exclusive: Last Week Tonight With John Oliver producer Avalon has lost its Chief Operating Officer. I hear Tim Robinson has left the British production company and talent management agency.
Robinson, a popular figure within the British television industry, joined the company, which has offices in London, New York and La, in September 2016 and left at the end of last month. He lead day-to-day operations at the business and managed the long-term strategic development of the group. He worked across the company’s production business, its talent management arm as well as studios, promotions and international distribution.
Deadline understands that Robinson’s departure was mutual and that he is currently in talks for a new role.
In addition to Oliver’s weekly HBO comedy show, Avalon produces series including Sharon Horgan and Rob Delaney’s Channel 4 and Amazon comedy Catastrophe, UKTV format Taskmaster, which has just been remade in the U.

Get Your Own Back Live, Knightmare, Chloe from 24 and a bit of GroupOn? Jenny and Alex have been to the Fringe...
We've just spent a week at the Edinburgh Fringe, where we devoted equal amounts of time to eating, tutting and refusing leaflets. In between this, we managed to fit some shows in.
We're going to talk about some of these shows here, instead of telling you about the thousands of hipsters we encountered. Seriously, guy doing “street typing” on a typewriter – no thanks.
Get Your Own Back Live!
I'll cut to the chase here – being in the audience for Get Your Own Back Live was the most fun I've had since I was born. And I'm counting that time I found a bottle of mystery booze in a hedge.
The show is a pretty faithful (if cheaper and more self-aware) version of the original.

Dave Gorman will be back on Dave for more, as Modern Life Is Goodish has been renewed.
The show will go into production in 2016 and 2017 for two more eight-episode series. The upcoming third series is scheduled for autumn.
Produced by Liberty Bell Productions, Modern Life Is Goodish sees Dave Gorman blend stand-up and documentary comedy to give a whole new take on the things we normally take for granted.
In the previous series, spam emails, greatest hits albums, government e-petitions and world records were investigated and mocked.
Dave's commissioning editor Iain Coyle said: "I'm absolutely cockahoop that we're doing more of these.
"Dave continues to innovate - through his ability to see things that seem to be hiding in plain sight - and sheer unrivalled hard work.
"His dedication and genius shine through in these shows. That's why folk love them."

The Longest Week Review
As is often the case with new directors, Peter Glanz’ The Longest Week is built from one of his earlier short films, A Relationship in Four Days. It’s a film that is going to divide critics, many of whom will dislike it for all the things that make it great, and is a tricky sell to most audiences. There’s a fine line between a derivative work (or one that is just patently stolen) and an honorific, and watching The Longest Week reminded me of nothing so much as Down with Love. While Down with Love was more directly putting forward the films it nodded to, and was more focused in its subject, it had a difficult time winning fans, and I suspect for similar reasons, even one has far easier entry points than the other.

Elsewhere Simon (Luke Thompson) throws a surprise party for Roanna (Hermione Norris), and Rick (Will Mellor) and Diane (Jill Halfpenny) prepare to take Hope home - in the shadow of Rick's impending court hearing.

Dave Gorman returns this week for a second series of Modern Life is Goodish.
The adventuring standup has become a master of combining Powerpoint presentations with observational comedy, with his latest show taking viewers on a journey of random subjects that baffle and dumbfound him.
Ahead of the new series, Digital Spy spoke to Dave Gorman about his work routine, choosing channels and in particular: copyrighted postcards (which is crying out for a Powerpoint presentation of its own).
Dave on... Twitter naysayers
"You never know how people are going to take to something. But [reviews to series one] just definitely seemed overwhelmingly positive. There was one person every week – literally one every week – being a dick on Twitter. You could just sit there and laugh and enjoy them and it was funny. The idea is not to entertain everyone. Super Furry Animals singer Gruff Rhys raises grins retracing a relative's quest to find Welsh-speaking Native Americans
Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys has already gone west once on film, with 2010's Separado!, his characteristically idiosyncratic history of the Welsh adventure in Patagonia. Now he offers this record of a tour that wasn't quite a tour: a retracing of John Evans' 1792 quest to find Welsh-speaking Native Americans that has yielded a Dave Gorman-like PowerPoint presentation and an album bearing a distinctly American chug and twang. Clearly, Rhys was creating as he went along, which accounts for the film's spontaneity, but also its restless contradictions. Silvery photography stifles some of its larkiness; vox-pops drown out the quieter numbers. Only the title track's gorgeous anomie lingers, but this tentative survey, full of beans and half-baked ideas alike, still generates broad grins. Having a Muppet represent Evans is an approach a Schama might consider non-canonical,...

Sex Box. A one-hour special with real-life couples having sex in a television studio and then undertaking an 'honest' discussion about it in front of a studio audience. Channel 4's latest show certainly isn't your standard Monday evening viewing.
Aired as part of C4's Campaign For Real Sex season, the show set out to "reclaim sex from porn" by exploring people's expectations of intercourse.
The reaction has been varied on Twitter, with some in favour of the social and sexual experiment but others thinking it is one 'sex show' too far.
However, many saw the comical side of things and Digital Spy rounds up a selection of the funniest online reactions below...

Dave Gorman will return to TV with a new comedy series for Dave, titled Modern Life Is Goodish.
The comic's new show will blend his usual stand-up, visual storytelling and real-world experimentation as he vents his frustration at the modern world and media on the subject of being sold things that he doesn't need. The show is loosely based on Gorman's acclaimed live show Powerpoint Presentation.
Dave's senior commissioning editor Richard Watsham said: "Continuing our drive for distinctive content, this is a wonderfully innovative comedy format that takes the best of Dave Gorman's brilliant stand-up and adds additional layers that will really bring it to life for TV.
"I'm very excited that more people will get to see just how good Dave is."

The Big Reunion, ITV2's landmark documentary series, cemented itself as a ratings hit last night.
The Thursday night programme, reuniting '90s bands B*Witched, Liberty X, 5ive, 911, The Honeyz and Atomic Kitten, climbed to 1.12m - a 4.9% share - adding 180,000 on +1.
Not only was The Big Reunion the most-watched multichannel offering of the day, it helped ITV2 finish third in the 9pm slot in front of BBC Two, Channel 4 and Channel 5.
Only BBC One with Silent Witness (5.14m/22.3%) and Martin Clunes: Heavy Horsepower (3.86m/16.7%) on ITV (+1: 286k) could better the ITV2 show, which began with under a million viewers last week.
5's Winter Road Rescue actually tied with The Big Reunion with 1.12m (4.9%), although the latter attracted a higher peak and pipped Road Rescue by a tiny margin of ten thousand viewers.
Meanwhile, How to Build a Bionic Man delivered 1.02m (4.4%) to Channel 4 (+1:...

We feel fairly confident in saying that Michael Winterbottom, or at least his casting director, is a big comedy fan. His lighter work, like "24 Hour Party People," "A Cock And Bull Story" and "The Trip" didn't just help to launch the big-screen careers of Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, but also provided early cinematic exposure for British comedy favorites like Dave Gorman, Peter Kay, Simon Pegg, Dylan Moran, David Walliams, Ashley Jensen and Stephen Fry.
And as he's re-uniting with Coogan again on "The King of Soho," a biopic of legendary London porn baron turned property millionaire Paul Raymond, the trend looks to continue. Filming is already underway with Anna Friel, Imogen Poots and Tamsin Egerton as Raymond's wife, daughter and mistress respectively, but a few more comic names have announced via Twitter as the latest cast members.

Does the world – and Radio 4 in particular – need another panel show? Apparently so, for that is what we have in Dilemma, a new, post-Archers, Sunday-night effort, hosted by Sue Perkins and peopled by the familiar: Rebecca Front, Dave Gorman, Richard Herring. Oh, and Dominic Lawson. (Coming straight after The Archers could be a toughie: it's all inter-family bickering and people banging on about organic farming at the mo. Terrible. Like Radio Prince Charles.)
Anyway, Dilemma. I have no problem with the cast: all very funny and bantery. My heavy heart came from the format: I am sick of panel shows, which, by their nature, showcase show-off men and don't play to funny women's strengths. However, Dilemma was devised by comedian Danielle Ward,...

Here's an interesting pick for the Alphabet network.
ABC has ordered a pilot for British humorist Danny Wallace's upcoming book, Awkward Situations for Men, the story of his and his wife's journey through America as a British man trying to adjust to the American way of life.
It's an interesting choice because it's new territory for ABC and American television in general. Wallace mines humor in his books and shows from setting himself up in strange situations such as hunting down old childhood friends, challenging fellow humorist Dave Gorman to find as many people named Dave Gorman as possible and saying "yes" to every question for six months, the latter of which was remade into a movie starring Jim Carrey.
Think this will work in the states and if so, will see more of them?

ABC has handed out an early pilot order to "Awkward Situations for Men," a hybrid comedy starring popular British humorist/on-air personality Danny Wallace.
The project, from Warner Bros. TV and Heydaycq Films, is inspired by Wallace's upcoming book "Awkward Situations for Men" and follows him as he moves to the U.S. with his wife, only to discover that his everyday behavior clashes with American values and gets him into trouble.
Jeff and Jackie Filgo ("That '70s Show") penned the script for the pilot with Wallace.
The Filgos and David Heyman are executive producing, with Wallace co-executive producing.
Wallace has written several comedic books, mostly chronicling some of his unusual stunts, such as challenging fellow comedian Dave Gorman to find 54 other people called Dave Gorman ("Are You Dave Gorman?"), starting a cult ("Join Me"), spending six months saying yes where once he would have said no ("Yes Man") and...

Julia Roberts’ production company, Red Om, has snapped up the rights to Peter Lovenheim’s non-fiction novel, In The Neighbourhood, with a view to turning it into one of those books with ‘Now A Major Motion Picture’ on the front cover. In The Neighbourhood is one of those high-concept Danny Wallace/Dave Gorman/Neil Strauss-esque books, wherein the author sets himself a wacky and outlandish challenge and, in the completion of said challenge, learns more about himself and society than he could have dreamed. Oh, and he bags himself a major book and movie deal, too. Which doesn’t hurt.Lovenheim’s schtick was to invite himself over to neighbours’ homes for sleepovers, in order to get to know them better, and to foster a sense of community in his home town. And if a major book or movie deal came about as a result, then so be it.
