Friday the 13th fans worried that Jason Voorhees may not show up in Peacock's prequel series Crystal Lake will be happy to know that a new actor has been cast in the role, well, as young Jason, at least. It was just announced that Callum Vinson will be the next Jason.

Vinson's previous roles include the TV series Chucky and Long Bright River. Peacock's prequel series is being created in partnership with A24. It will primarily follow the story of Jason's mom, Pamela Voorhees, who avenged her special needs son after he drowned. Linda Cardellini has been cast as Pamela. The prequel series is named after the town and summer camp where most of the movies occur and where Jason drowned. Few franchises own a day of the year, but even fewer own an inconsistent date. Whitney Rydbeck, the actor cherished by horror fans for his unforgettable role in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives and M*A*S*H, passed away at the age of 79.

Rydbeck died on Monday from complications related to cancer while in hospice care in Chatsworth, California, his longtime friend and Jason Lives director, Tommy McLoughlin, told The Hollywood Reporter.

The New York Post specifies that the actor battled prostate cancer.

McLoughlin played tribute to the late actor on Instagram.

“We lost not only a truly funny comedian and actor but one of the most good-hearted human beings I’ve ever known,” McLoughlin shared in a heartfelt statement.

“God Bless You and Rest in Peace, Whitney Rydbeck. Our loss is Heaven’s gain,” the statement concluded.

Rydbeck’s last role was in The Oates’ Valor in 2007 in which he portrayed Mr. Hahn.

Actor Whitney Rydbeck, who was popular with horror fans for his unforgettable role in Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives, has died. He was 79 years old.

Per THR, Jason Lives director Tommy McLoughlin confirmed that Rydbeck passed away. The actor died on Monday due to complications from cancer while in hospice care in Chatsworth, California. McLoughlin also shared a tribute to Rydbeck on social media, including some screenshots of Rydbeck's role in the Friday the 13th franchise film along with the poster for Jason Lives.

McLoughlin shared a statement that said, "We lost not only a truly funny comedian and actorbut one of the most good hearted human beings Ive ever known. God Bless You and Rest in Peace Whitney Rydbeck. Our Loss is Heavens Gain."

Teddy Told Me To, the directorial debut of effects artist Tom Devlin is based on a character he created for an episode of SyFy’s makeup show Face Off back in 2011. Teddy was designed to be the villain for a slasher film, and now eleven years later, he’s just that.

FX Artist Tom Devlin Brings His SyFy ‘Face Off’ Fan Favorite Creation to Life in Feature Horror-Comedy ‘Teddy Told Me To’: "Acclaimed FX artist Tom Devlin has finished production on his feature directorial debut “Teddy Told Me To”, which is currently in post-production.

The horror-comedy – which was directed by Devlin from a screenplay by Vincent Cusimano and Lola Devlin, was filmed on location at his celebrated Boulder City, Nevada roadside attraction Tom Devlin’s Monster Museum. Tom Devlin and Kayla Bushell produced, with special makeup effects by Devlin and Walid Atshe.

A brand new Friday the 13th Blu-ray box set is in the works and looks to be coming our way this summer. Unlike what other options horror fans have out there right now, this is a comprehensive set that will include every single entry in the franchise, in addition to new bonus features being put together specifically for this set. Not only that, but it looks like we will be the first time Jason Goes to Hell in its unrated form will be available on Blu-ray.

While the set hasn't been formally announced by the studio or a distributor, several of those involved have let the cat out of the bag. First off, Vincent Guastaferro, who played Deputy Rick Cologne in 1986's Jason Lives, revealed that he has recorded a new commentary track for the movie, which will be part of the box set. Currently, the Kickstarter has earned just shy of $40,000 from 116 backers. The original goal of $25,000 has easily been surpassed. However, as the filmmakers note, it's going to cost more than what is being asked here to complete the movie. This will just help make it so they don't have to halt production and can keep Friday the 13th: Vengeance on the tracks.

Given her last name, you could say Deborah Voorhees was destined to have a career in horror movies. And whenever you’re discussing the franchise’s longevity, there’s surely one debate you’ll inevitably find yourself in: “Who played Jason best?” That mostly comes down to personal preference, of course, but six of the actors responsible for bringing the slasher icon to life came together at Texas Frightmare recently and even better, they recreated their iconic looks for photo ops.

Taking inspiration from Dr. Frankenstein, filmmaker Tom McLoughlin resurrected Jason Voorhees from the dead with a bolt of lightning in the mid-’80s. After a last-minute change early in filming, C.J. Graham was the man behind the mask for the sixth installment in the franchise, emerging from Jason's unearthed grave and brining the zombified version of the horror icon to life with style, humor, and a whole lot of horror. Last year, we showed Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter which began our Late Nite Grindhouse journey into the Tommy Jarvis arc. This year, we end that journey with one of the best entries of the franchise!

Years ago, Tommy Jarvis (Thom Mathews) killed infamous hockey-masked murderer Jason Voorhees (C.J. Graham), and the intensity of the experience has landed him in a mental institution. To end his torment and achieve a level of closure, Tommy escapes from the hospital and heads to the graveyard where Jason is buried, intending to dig up the body and cremate it. But, before this total annihilation can occur, a freak electrical accident resurrects Jason from the dead, and the terror begins anew.

February’s home entertainment releases are kicking off in a big way, as horror and sci-fi fans have an extraordinary number of brand spanking new titles to choose from this Tuesday. From indie horror to cult classics to cult classics in the making, February 2nd’s Blu-ray and DVD releases truly do offer up something for everyone.

Scream Factory is offering up two modern genre films this week, Hellions and Zombie Fight Club and Cinedigm is keeping busy too on Tuesday with their releases of Extraordinary Tales and The World of Kanako. Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.

Friday the 13th was released on Blu-Ray on June 16th, 2009.

Friday The 13th fans are getting a special treat at this year's San Diego Comic-con as Gentle Giant brings out a limited-edition variant of the Jason Voorhees figure from Friday The 13th Part VI: Jason Lives!

Limited to just 500 pieces, this edition of the figure initially issued last fall features a removable mask, and will set you back around $60 bucks.

For fans visiting the Gentle Giant booth that week, actor C.J. Graham, who donned the famous hockey mask in Part VI will be on-hand for a free signing.

Wrong Turn 3 director Declan O’Brien will be previewing his new Fox DVD splatter sequel at the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. O’Brien (pictured below with friend), the director of the Sci Fi Channel original movies Rock Monster, Monster Ark and Cyclops, will debut exclusive clips from Wrong Turn 3 (about another group of lost travelers facing off against inbred hillbilly maniacs) at the convention on Sunday.

In addition to his directing chores, O’Brien has also scripted Harpies, The Snake King and Savage Planet for Sci Fi. Stop by this site again over the next couple of days as we begin posting the full schedules (auditorium panels and film programs) for the Fango show.

30 Days Of Night actor Ben Foster (pictured below), star of the upcoming sci-fi thriller Pandorum, has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors, to be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Hellboy movies director Guillermo del Toro has joined the lineup of the fast-approaching East Coast edition of Fangoria’s Weekend of Horrors. The event will be held June 5-7, 2009 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center (11th Avenue between 34th and 39th Streets) in New York City. One of the most celebrated genre directors of our time, del Toro will be appearing at the convention on Friday (5 to 7 p.m. only) for an exclusive stage appearance and to sign copies of his first novel, the vampire epic The Strain: Book One Of The Strain (coming June 2 from William Morrow), with co-author Chuck Hogan.
