Callum Vinson cast as young Jason Voorhees in Peacock's Friday the 13th prequel series Crystal Lake
Image
Friday the 13th fans worried that Jason Voorhees may not show up in Peacock's prequel series Crystal Lake will be happy to know that a new actor has been cast in the role, well, as young Jason, at least. It was just announced that Callum Vinson will be the next Jason.

Vinson's previous roles include the TV series Chucky and Long Bright River. Peacock's prequel series is being created in partnership with A24. It will primarily follow the story of Jason's mom, Pamela Voorhees, who avenged her special needs son after he drowned. Linda Cardellini has been cast as Pamela. The prequel series is named after the town and summer camp where most of the movies occur and where Jason drowned. Because Vinson is billed as a reoccurring guest star, it's unclear how many episodes he'll appear in, especially since the series focuses on Pamela. Most likely, we'll see scenes...

Crystal Lake: Jason Voorhees Has Finally Been Cast In Friday The 13th Prequel TV Series
Image
Deadline (via FearHQ.com) has revealed that A24's Crystal Lake TV series has found its Jason Voorhees in Chucky and Long Bright River star Callum Vinson. The actor, born in 2014, will play the child version of the terrifying serial killer, as the show shifts the spotlight to his mother, Linda Cardellini's Pamela Voorhees.

It's previously been reported that Pamela will be portrayed as a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child. Things take a dark turn when Jason drowns at summer camp—the titular "Crystal Lake"—prompting Pamela to go on a killing spree, making the camp counsellors pay for their negligence.

However, when the young Jason witnesses one of the camp counsellors decapitating his mom, he's inspired to go on a murder spree of his own. There's a supernatural element to the character, but it's thought he survived that apparent drowning...

Friday the 13th Prequel Finds Its New Jason Voorhees
Image
The new Jason Voorhees has just been cast. A young version of the character is set to be featured in the upcoming Friday the 13th prequel series, Crystal Lake, and the new Jason is among a handful of additions just revealed as new cast members.

Per Deadline, Callum Vinson is set to portray Jason Voorhees in Crystal Lake. Notably, Vinson is being billed as a "recurring guest star," as Jason is not expected to be the main focus of the series. Crystal Lake primarily follows his mother, Pamela Voorhees, with Linda Cardellini in the role.

The series will reportedly reveal Pamela to be a former singer who gave up a career in show business to raise her special needs child. As fans familiar with Friday the 13th lore will know, this ends up taking a dark turn when Jason drowns at Camp Crystal Lake. Pamela blamed the counselors for choosing...

Peacock’s ‘Friday The 13th’ Prequel Series ‘Crystal Lake’ Finds Its Jason Voorhees in ‘Chucky’ Actor
Image
Filming is underway on showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming Friday the 13th television series from Peacock and A24 that will serve as an expanded prequel to the legendary slasher franchise. And the new Jason Voorhees has boarded the project.

“Chucky” actor Callum Vinson has joined the series as young Jason Voorhees, Deadline reports today.

Vinson, who recently starred as Henry Collins in “Chucky” season three, is billed as a recurring guest star, as this new project focuses on Jason’s mother, Pamela Voorhees. The series’ version of Pamela Voorhees is “believed to be a mother who had given up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.”

Linda Cardellini stars in “Crystal Lake” as Mrs. Voorhees, who was of course the killer in the original Friday the 13th (1980). She’s joined by William Catlett (Abigail...

Peacock’s ‘Friday The 13th’ Prequel Series ‘Crystal Lake’ Casts Callum Vinson As Jason Voorhees
Image
A new Jason Voorhees has joined the Friday the 13th universe, as Callum Vinson boards Peacock’s prequel series Crystal Lake from A24. Brad Caleb Kane serves as creator, writer, showrunner and executive producer of the series.

The hockey mask-wearing serial killer from the big screen is the son of Pamela Voorhees, to be played by Linda Cardellini in the new show. Cardellini’s Pamela is believed to be a mother who gave up a singing career to raise a special needs child and takes a dark turn when she loses her son.

Crystal Lake is a town, a lake, and a summer camp in the franchise, the setting of the series. Voorhees drowned in the lake as a child, which led to his mother’s killing spree at the camp to avenge his “death.” Jason witnessed his mother’s decapitation by a camp counselor, which...

Friday the 13th Movies Ranked: Jason at his best (and worst)
Image
One era of the Friday the 13th franchise officially came to an end on January 1st, when the servers for Friday the 13th: The Game – an awesome game that was hindered by the legal issues the franchise went through in recent years – were shut down at the request of the rights holders. A new era is about to begin, with Linda Cardellini having been officially cast as Pamela Voorhees in the Peacock streaming series Crystal Lake. As we sit in this space between eras, we still have the movies to watch over and over again. So let’s take a look at this Friday the 13th Movies Ranked list!

While this list is all in good fun, I have to admit that I found it to be surprisingly difficult to put together. That’s because the Friday the 13th franchise is my favorite of all franchises and I love every one of these films.

Most of the Friday the 13th Movies Share the Same Glaring Mistake (& It Goes Right Over Fans' Heads)
Image
Friday the 13th is one of the most famous horror franchises of all time. Millions of fans are familiar with the story of Jason Voorhees, a hockey mask wearing murderer with a machete. When Jason was 11 years old, he accidentally drowned at Camp Crystal Lake when the counselors weren't paying attention. He swears his revenge as a result, and in each movie, he ups the ante with creative, brutal kills, often of partying teenagers.

Not counting the original where his mother Pamela Voorhees was the killer, Jason has been the main antagonist throughout the Friday the 13th series. There are 12 movies in the franchise to date, but interestingly, fans have overlooked a glaring detail about most of the entries. Only one-third of the films actually take place on Friday the 13th. The movies that are set on the right date include the 1980 original, Part 6: Jason Lives, Part 7: The New Blood,...

Ranking the Jason Voorhees Actors on a Wintery Friday the 13th
Image
Few franchises own a day of the year, but even fewer own an inconsistent date. That inconsistency helps make every Friday the 13th feel like a surprise in its own right, which makes any time to celebrate Jason Voorhees a worthwhile occasion. With that in mind, one of the cooler aspects of the franchise has been a rotating group of actors, each with their own spin on Jason Voorhees. Don’t get us wrong, a lot of this comes down to the directors and quality of the movies, but each brings something unique to the role.

Ranking the Jason Voorhees Actors 13. Dick Wieand (Friday the 13th: A New Beginning)

Well, sorry if you didn’t know that Dick Wieand plays Roy, who becomes Jason. However, A New Beginning a shockingly bad entry as a whole. His ninety-ish seconds are indicative of the poor quality of the movie overall. Nothing against Wieand,...

Every Actor Who Played Jason Voorhees In Friday the 13th Movies, Ranked
Image
Throughout the Friday the 13th series, many actors have played the iconic killer, Jason Voorhees, some better than others. Jason Voorhees cycled through looks and costumes across the years, as well as actors, many of whom only played the character once. The films sometimes brought in different actors in each movie to stand in for Jason when he wasn't wholly on screen, but each movie generally has one or, in some cases, two actors associated with the role. Many shots of the killer remain faceless, mirroring Jason's menacing yet sneaky killing style.

Jason Voorhees typically wears a hockey mask when his face is shown, which has become synonymous with the killer. The character design allowed him to be played solely by stuntmen since throughout the Friday the 13th franchise, Jason kills but doesn't speak. With a series that is over 40 years old with many film and television installments, fans are...

Horror Actor Replacements That Were Actually For The Best
Image
"Pearl" star Mia Goth has some thoughts on why the Academy Awards often fail to recognize standout performances in horror films. "I think that it's very political," she told Jake Hamilton (via Twitter). "I think that it's not entirely based on the quality of a project, per se." Like many horror fans, Goth wants that to change.

Horror fans love the actors who star in such films, often becoming quite devoted to them. It's not just the ones who deserve awards, either. To understand just how important all horror film performances are, one need only take a look at the talent lineup for any given horror convention. Many people are just as happy to meet someone who was killed third in a random "Friday the 13th" sequel as they are to talk to special effects artists and directors.

Sometimes, though, actors in horror films get swapped out for various reasons.

Image
Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, Silver Scream Con returned to the Doubletree Boston North Shore in Danvers, Massachusetts on September 8-10 — ’cause let’s face it, baby, these days you gotta have a sequel!

Created by horror-inspired metalcore band Ice Nine Kills, Silver Scream Con has quickly established itself as a top-tier horror convention among celebrity guests and attendees alike. “Everybody’s been really nice, and I’m enjoying myself immensely,” said Tommy Lee Wallace, who created Michael Myers’ iconic mask for the original Halloween before going on to direct Halloween III: Season of the Witch. “I hope everyone gets the shit scared out of them!”

Not even severe thunderstorm alerts could stop the rabid fans, who traveled not just from all over North America but as far as Finland, Scotland, and England to attend. Ticket sales reportedly doubled from the previous year’s already-commendable showing,...

‘Teddy Told Me To’ Review
Image
Stars: Topher Hansson, Kamarra Cole, Lisa Wilcox, C.J. Graham, Michael Shields, Trent Haaga, Felissa Rose, Warrington Gillette | Written by Vincent Cusimano, Lola Devlin | Directed by Tom Devlin

Teddy Told Me To, the directorial debut of effects artist Tom Devlin is based on a character he created for an episode of SyFy’s makeup show Face Off back in 2011. Teddy was designed to be the villain for a slasher film, and now eleven years later, he’s just that.

The film opens with a YouTuber sneaking into an old haunted attraction, “abandoned since all the way back in the 90s!”, only to meet a bloody end. That video is being watched by Danny and Zoe who are meeting a realtor about that very property.

Of course, they buy it and renovate it with visions of making a killing in the spooky season. When their groundskeeper Ron tells them somebody made a...

Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
Friday the 13th Complete 12-Movie Blu-ray Set with New Special Features Coming Soon?
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993)
A brand new Friday the 13th Blu-ray box set is in the works and looks to be coming our way this summer. Unlike what other options horror fans have out there right now, this is a comprehensive set that will include every single entry in the franchise, in addition to new bonus features being put together specifically for this set. Not only that, but it looks like we will be the first time Jason Goes to Hell in its unrated form will be available on Blu-ray.

While the set hasn't been formally announced by the studio or a distributor, several of those involved have let the cat out of the bag. First off, Vincent Guastaferro, who played Deputy Rick Cologne in 1986's Jason Lives, revealed that he has recorded a new commentary track for the movie, which will be part of the box set. Guastaferro had this to say in a post on Facebook.

Natalie Schnelle, Jason Brooks, Chalet Lizette Brannan, Tabitha Bastien, Luke Schuck, Sanae Loutsis, Kelly Tappan, and Christian Sullivan in Friday the 13th: Vengeance (2019)
The screenwriter and the director of the original Friday the 13th are currently playing tug-of-war with the rights to the series in a never-ending legal battle, but that isn't keeping Jason Voorhees from upping his body count. With no hope of seeing the trademark hockey mask back on the big screen anytime soon, filmmakers have since taken to producing Friday the 13th fan films to continue the series. Because so many fans of the franchise are dying to see more bloodshed from Jason, the crowdfunding campaign for the fan film Friday the 13th: Vengeance was highly successful, and the movie has since made its way online.

In Friday the 13th: Vengeance, two former Jason Voorhees actors appear as new characters, marking interesting returns for both of them. Jason Lives actor C.J. Graham appears in a major role in the movie as Elias Voorhees, Jason's father. Although the character has appeared in various comic books,...

E.T. and Cujo Mom Dee Wallace Reunites with Her On-Screen Sons
Dee Wallace
Dee Wallace recently reunited with her children from E.T. and Cujo, and shared a photo of the meeting online. In a photo posted to her official Twitter account, Wallace poses with E.T. co-star Henry Thomas and Cujo co-star Danny Pintauro at the Spooky Empire convention in Orlando, Florida. "They'll forever be my kids!" Wallace notes in the caption, referring to the times she played the mother to each of these actors when they were children in the classic '80s movies. For fans of both Cujo and E.T., there's just something inherently awesome about seeing all three of these people in the same photo.

Wallace is undoubtedly one of the most legendary scream queens of all time, having appeared in a variety of classic horror movies. One of her most well-known horror roles came in 1983 when she starred as Donna Trenton in Lewis Teague's Cujo. Based on the Stephen King novel,...

Dee Wallace Takes the Lead in Friday the 13th Inspired Slasher 13 Fanboy
Deborah Voorhees
Certainly, it goes without saying that the upcoming horror movie 13 Fanboy will be a must-see movie for horror fans. It seems to be the closest we'll get to seeing another Friday the 13th movie in the near future, considering the never-ending legal battle over the franchise rights. To help fill the void, one of the stars of Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning, Deborah Voorhees, is writing and directing a new slasher movie which features tons of fan favorite stars from the series.

Each new casting announcement has only made the movie more exciting, and that continues now that Voorhees has officially announced genre superstar Dee Wallace for a lead role.

Just last week, Corey Feldman was also confirmed to be joining the movie's cast. Unlike most of the other talent involved, however, Feldman will be playing an original character rather than appearing as himself. As a child actor,...

Corey Feldman to Return in Friday the 13th Reunion Slasher Movie 13 Fanboy
Deborah Voorhees
With the rights to the Friday the 13th franchise still being fought over in court, there's no telling when to expect to see Jason Voorhees on the big screen again. To satisfy fans, one of the franchise's most memorable stars is making her own slasher movie, with most of its cast consisting of various stars from the Friday the 13th movies. Known for her role in A New Beginning, scream queen Deborah Voorhees is writing and directing 13 Fanboy, and has already put together a solid cast. The newest addition to the cast could be the most exciting one yet, as Voorhees has recently announced in her official Facebook group she's cast Corey Feldman for a role in the movie.

Corey Feldman has appeared in many different movies in his career, stemming from his start as a child star. One of his earliest roles was of Jason's biggest nemesis Tommy Jarvis,...

Voorhees Brings Criminals to Crystal Lake in Friday the 13th Fan Film
Officially, it has now been the longest span of time between Friday the 13th movies. The last one to be released was the 2009 remake by Platinum Dunes, which means we're coming up on a decade without seeing Jason Voorhees on the big screen. Unfortunately, the future of the franchise remains uncertain, due to some legal drama going on over the rights. With it potentially being years before we get another official movie, filmmakers are taking it upon themselves to keep Jason alive in the meantime. The next one to keep an eye on is Voorhees, which just released a full trailer this week.

From director Cody Faulk and executive producer Chris Plaushin, Voorhees began as a successfully crowdfunded short film. Upon shooting, it was realized that there was still so much more of the story left to tell, that the filmmakers launched another campaign to make the movie feature length.

Vengeance (2009)
Fully Funded Friday the 13th: Vengeance Fan Film Is a Jason Lives Sequel
Vengeance (2009)
As we wait for a new, official Friday the 13th movie to come down the pipeline, some fans of the franchise have taken it upon themselves to gives us what Hollywood won't. Friday the 13th: Vengeance is a fan film that has surpassed its funding goal on Kickstarter recently and is intended to serve as a sequel to the sixth entry in the slasher franchise, Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives. They've also managed to get C.J. Graham, who starred as Jason in that particular entry, to take part.

Currently, the Kickstarter has earned just shy of $40,000 from 116 backers. The original goal of $25,000 has easily been surpassed. However, as the filmmakers note, it's going to cost more than what is being asked here to complete the movie. This will just help make it so they don't have to halt production and can keep Friday the 13th: Vengeance on the tracks.

Deborah Voorhees
Former Friday the 13th Stars Get Slaughtered in 13 Fanboy Trailer
Deborah Voorhees
Given her last name, you could say Deborah Voorhees was destined to have a career in horror movies. She became a favorite for fans of the genre beginning with her appearance in Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning back in 1985, which featured a scene of her character being stabbed through both eyes with a pair of garden shears. In recent years, Voorhees has been working on her own independent films under her Voorhees Films banner, and her next project will have fans of the franchise excited. Called 13 Fanboy, the indie flick will tell the story of an obsessed fan stalking the stars of the Friday the 13th movie series, killing them in similar ways their characters were murdered by Jason Voorhees (and Roy Burns) on screen.

Written and directed by Friday the 13th: A New Beginning star Debi Sue Voorhees, this film will have no official connection whatsoever...

Six Jason Voorhees Actors Recreated Their Look For Texas Frightmare, And It Was Awesome
Whether you’re a casual moviegoer or a full-blown horror buff, you’ve aware of the Friday The 13th films. And whenever you’re discussing the franchise’s longevity, there’s surely one debate you’ll inevitably find yourself in: “Who played Jason best?” That mostly comes down to personal preference, of course, but six of the actors responsible for bringing the slasher icon to life came together at Texas Frightmare recently and even better, they recreated their iconic looks for photo ops.

As you can see in the gallery down below, we’ve got Ken Kirzinger (Freddy Vs. Jason), Tom Morga (A New Beginning), Steve Dash (Friday the 13th Part 2), C.J. Graham (Jason Lives), Ted White (The Final Chapter) and Kane Hodder (Jason Takes Manhattan).

They were photographed in their costumes over the weekend in Grapevine, Texas at the Hyatt Regency Dfw International Airport. Each of the costumes are spot on,...

Interview: C.J. Graham Reflects on Playing Jason Voorhees in Friday The 13th Part VI
Taking inspiration from Dr. Frankenstein, filmmaker Tom McLoughlin resurrected Jason Voorhees from the dead with a bolt of lightning in the mid-’80s. After a last-minute change early in filming, C.J. Graham was the man behind the mask for the sixth installment in the franchise, emerging from Jason's unearthed grave and brining the zombified version of the horror icon to life with style, humor, and a whole lot of horror. At Crypticon Minneapolis late last year, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of speaking with Graham about playing the eponymous role in Jason Lives, and as a special treat for the first Friday the 13th of 2018, we're sharing our Part VI interview with readers!

Thank you for taking the time to chat with me. I talked with Jason Lives director Tom McLoughlin a couple of years ago, and the stories about the making of the film are fascinating. You even...

Blu-Ray Review: Jason Voorhees Returns in Killer Cut of ‘Friday the 13th’
Chicago – The reboot of “Friday the 13th” was another financially successful notch in the belt of Platinum Dunes, the film company behind the remakes of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” “The Hitcher,” and “The Amityville Horror”. Making $90 million worldwide and more domestically than any previous Jason Voorhees movie (that didn’t include Freddy Krueger), “Friday the 13th” has a following that will be ecstatic with the excellent Blu-Ray release for the slasher title.

Blu-Ray Rating: 3.5/5.0 The Blu-Ray of “Friday the 13th” delivers everything fans could ask for. Not only do they present a longer and better cut of the film in the 9-minutes-longer “Extended Cut,” but the special features enhance the “Friday the 13th” experience and the technical transfer is nearly flawless.

Friday the 13th was released on Blu-Ray on June 16th, 2009.

As for the film itself, my response to “Friday the 13th” is mixed at best. I love...
