Tito Goya

What to Watch: Nov. 10-16, 2013
Chicago – It’s kind of a light week at the Blu-ray and DVD store (do they still have those now that Blockbuster has closed?). As studios prep a lot of major releases for holiday season, a few titles have been released on Blu-ray, DVD, and streaming services this week that we wanted to highlight, including a decent animated flick, a great foreign one, and a bunch of movies that may interest you but that you should probably avoid.

The Attack

“The Attack”

The best new release of the week is this moving foreign film about a man shattered by the realization that his wife may not be who he’s always thought she was. The revelation brings to the surface the man’s own history and the piece becomes a moving meditation on the crisis in the Middle East and how the past and hidden conflicts are always there,...

Summer Survey. Katey & Ja (Pt. 2)
To recap... now that summer movie season 2012 is a wrap, we're polling contributors, friends and You about your favorite and least favorite things of the summer. It's just a glass of something light and bubbly to raise, gulp down quickly and bring a little closure before the heavier stuff hits.

In Part 1, we heard from a few good men and here's two more voices for Part 2. Parts 3 and 4 are the podcast this weekend!

Katey

who you know and love from Cinema Blend and the occasional podcast here...

Best Movie I Saw All Summer:

I'm surprising myself by answering Magic Mike. It's got more confidence, more imagination and more willingness to let it all hang out than most anything else the studio system produced all year.

Scenes I ♥ So Much I Thought My Heart Would Burst:

1) Natasha's interrogation scene at the beginning of The Avengers-- I've always been wishy-washy...

Langford on Soaps: Telemundo Brings Us Another Gay With “Maid In Manhattan”
Langford's Picks And Pans

Maid In Manhattan

We’ve been following the coming out drama of Alejandro on Telemundo soap Dangerous Relationships for the past few weeks, but in the meantime another soap on the Spanish language network has introduced a gay storyline. It’s very different than the story being told on Dr. On Maid In Manhattan, Tito, who is a lawyer, recently came out to his boss Cristobal. His sexuality is an issue in that he’s shy and not very experienced when it comes to men.

Only in Oakdale do you not have sex with the hot boyfriend you’re in love with…

Perhaps that is why he so easily fell for the charms of Bruno, who is actually straight, but was hired by his current girlfriend (and the show’s bad girl) Sara to seduce Tito. To be honest, I’m really unclear as to why Sara wants to do this,...

Blu-Ray Review: ‘El Mariachi,’ ‘Desperado,’ ‘Once Upon a Time in Mexico’
Chicago – Timed to coincide with Fox’s release of “Machete,” Sony has released three of director Robert Rodriguez’s earlier action extravaganzas on two releases — a double feature of “El Mariachi” and “Desperado” to sit next to your new copy of “Once Upon a Time in Mexico.” Both releases feature more special features and arguably better HD transfers than Rodriguez’s 2010 film and could be the better choice for your Blu-ray dollar than “Machete.”

I can still remember the waves caused by Rodriguez’s “El Mariachi.” He was a part of a new school of Diy filmmakers in the ’90s who truly changed the movie scene. With other filmmakers like Richard Linklater (with “Slacker”) and Kevin Smith (with “Clerks”), Rodriguez made the idea that anyone could be the next notable director seem real. It was a wave that would eventually create household names like Quentin Tarantino and gave birth to...

Alleged Mistress #2 -- Faced Off w/ Ufc Fighter
Melissa Smith, Jesse James' alleged mistress #2, has a thing for bad boys ... in fact, she recently put Ufc fighter Tito Ortiz in an armlock at a trade show in San Diego. It's unclear if Melissa was aware ... or even cared ... that Tito is dating Jenna Jameson. Tito's people contacted us to say Tito has no idea who Melissa is and has "never seen her, spoken to her, or been anywhere near her" other than during this photo op.
