Overview

  • Born
September 10, 1951 · Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, UK

Biography

    • Graduated from Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1971. Made professional debut at The Mermaid Theatre in London for Bernard Miles, then two seasons in repertory at The Gateway Theatre in Chester. First appearance on television not long after, in Granada's "Shabby Tiger".

Has made literally thousands of radio broadcasts, not including commercial voice-over work, but most notably, fifteen continuous years in BBC Radio 4's topical satire show "Weekending", for which she won The Radio Times Radio Comedy Performance of The Year in 1992. An article in The Guardian newspaper described her Margaret Thatcher impression as "more terrifying than the real thing".

Took a break from television and theatre to bring up her two children, but returned to the stage in 2008 when she played Betty Marsden in a touring production of "Round The Horne". In 2012 she appeared in "Arsenic and Old Lace" at The Pitlochry Festival Theatre, followed two years later by "The Ladykillers", also at Pitlochry.
