Now, the multi-award-winning short film (one of the most successful in iTunes history) is ready to take the leap forward as a major motion picture. Only this time, they’re doing things a little differently.

"The project had actually been optioned by MGM as a TV show,” says Cunningham. “But restructuring at the studio sent it into turn-around. So, now, we’re going straight to the fans.”

In the heart of TNT’s latest hit show, Falling Skies, Colin Cunningham is the ladle that stirs the pot. His character, John Pope is one of the biggest draws of the show. He is TV’s latest can’t-miss character where he’s a slimy, selfish bastard one-minute and the most resourceful and street-smart survivalist the next. Cunningham is no stranger to genre shows having appeared on Andromeda, Stargate Sg-1, The Collector, and The 4400. Cunningham is also developing his award-winning short film (and 2009 Academy Award short list for nominations), Centigrade into a television show or future feature film with his producing partner Madison Graie. Centigrade was the first short film to break into the Top 10 featured downloads on iTunes. BuzzFocus caught up with Cunningham to talk about Falling Skies and his character, John Pope, the most interesting man left on the Earth. BuzzFocus: How do you like playing the loveable bad guy?...

Well, Falling Skies has launched, and the debut ratings were impressive. If you're like me, you took a shine to the character John Pope, and there is a lot of him coming up in the show, and with some interesting spins. Pope is played by Colin Cunningham, and I got a chance to talk to him recently about the show, shows generally, and his character. It was a great conversation, and I hope that translates (it usually doesn't quite work). For my money, a lot of the best hope of the continued success of the show comes down to how Pope figures into things, and I think Colin gives a fun, interesting, and layered performance that is worth watching.
