'How Do I Destroy Everything?' Dan Harmon Opens Up About What's Next for Rick and Morty
Image
Rick and Mortyco-creator Dan Harmon has offered an update on the series ahead of the series' Season 8 finale. He also shared some of his favorite moments from the show.

"I'm really bad at keeping track these days because we're so on schedule that we're ahead of schedule," Harmon told The Hollywood Reporter when the question came up during San Diego Comic-Con 2025. "I was told last night that at Comic-Con, we will be doing a table read of the two Beths episode [Season 8, Episode 6, "The Curicksous Case of Bethjamin Button"]. My response was very sincerely, 'Maybe I should punch that script up.' And [executive producer] Steve Levy said, 'It already aired on television.' I've become my own Chevy Chase now."

Harmon also hinted at the future of Rick and Morty. Recording of voice work for Season 9 is already underway with writing for some episodes of Season 10 complete. "Definitely very new, very alien," he said about being ahead of schedule.

“Rick and Morty”

Ahead of the Season 8 finale of “Rick and Morty” on Sunday, the cast shared their favorite serious moments from the series.

Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden said the “fear hole” from the Season 7 finale, with Sarah Chalke chiming in about the Season 8 finale as her standout. As the new voices of “Rick and Morty,” Cardoni and Belden opened up about revisiting these characters for a second time in the current season.

“We got to breathe a little bit in between episodes because Season 7 had to be done in about two months,” Cardoni said. “In Season 8, we took most of the year to explore these characters a little more and bring more of ourselves to the role. We’ve just been given these great stories to play with.

15 Best Shows Like BoJack Horseman
Image
"BoJack Horseman," created by Raphael Bob-Waksberg, may have talking animals and copious puns, but it's also a dark reflection of addiction and the pursuit of fame. The best "BoJack Horseman" episodes know how to masterfully maneuver between comedy and drama, and the show refuses to give its audience any easy answers. BoJack (Will Arnett) is not a good individual, as his self-destructive tendencies often cause him to push any friends he has away. This often gets juxtaposed with whatever silly adventure his roommate Todd (Aaron Paul) gets into, like joining an improv-based cult.

Fans likely tuned into "BoJack Horseman" expecting some silly cartoons revolving around a satirical Hollywood, but it was so much more than that, becoming one of the most profound shows of the 21st century. The show got six seasons to wrap up its story, but you may still feel a horse-shaped void in your heart. Fortunately, there...

Rick and Morty Co-Creator Dan Harmon Breaks Down Series' "South Park" Rule
Image
Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon explains how the series avoids falling into bad habits with its South Parkrule.

Per Bleeding Cool, Harmon broke down the ways in which Rick and Morty is influenced by South Park, or rather by the concerted effort that the former's creative team makes to avoid trying to race the latter when it comes to touching upon current events. "We have a South Park rule," Harmon said, "Which is, 'Let's not play a South Park game because South Park can do it faster and better than us.' So it's one thing for the thing you're referring to is like, 'Oh, they're in Squid Games outfits,' so it's a direct reference."

Harmon went on to explain the creative team's conscious efforts to make sure any pop culture references made inRick and Morty have a timeless quality to them that will translate successfully as the years roll on.

Rick and Morty's Holding a Perfect Score on Rotten Tomatoes With Season 8 Return
Image
Rick and Morty recently returned for its eighth season, and as it stands, the new season currently has the record for the highest-rated of them all. It's also notably seeing a big bump compared to last season's score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Currently, Rick and Morty Season 8 is holding a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This number may fall as more episodes and reviews are added during the season, but it's nevertheless a tremendous start for Season 8. It's up significantly from Season 7's score of 77%, which is the lowest of the series. Previous seasons had consistently performed strongly with critics. Season 1 has a near-perfect score of 97%, followed by Season 2 at 91%; Season 3 at 96%; Season 4 at 96%; Season 5 at 86%; and Season 6 at 91%.

"Rick and Morty Season 8 continues what the series does best, letting the main characters' exciting dynamic shine with the backdrop of wild adventures," Screen Rant reviewer Felipe Rangel said of the new season.

The Family Dynamics of ‘Succession’ Were Injected Into the Mayhem of ‘Rick and Morty’ Season 8, Say Creators
Image
Adult Swim’s “Rick and Morty” is back for Season 8, and the nearly year-and-a-half break has resulted in a burst of creative energy for a show that, at its best, can only be loosely described as a sci-fi sitcom. Creators Scott Marder and Dan Harmon have returned to the core Smith family dynamics (partly inspired by “Succession”), now severely impacted by Rick (Ian Cardoni) and Morty’s (Harry Belden) rippled universe mayhem. Season 8 offers up some provocative existential problems, along with eye-popping world-building, and even more imaginative body horror. At the same time, there are a few callbacks to feed the fanbase.

Here are some early highlights: In Episode 1 (“Summer of All Fears”), Morty and older sister Summer (Spencer Grammer) return from being prisoners inside a simulated “Matrix” as punishment for not returning Rick’s phone charger. Summer became a ruthless tech firm leader while Morty suffered Ptsd from going to war.

Rick & Morty's Meeseeks Episode Got Another Ending Outside Of Adult Swim
Image
In the "Rick and Morty" episode "Meeseeks and Destroy" -- a fan favorite, although maybe not one of the best -- Rick reveals a miraculous widget called the Meeseeks Box, a device that can manifest a helpful blue alien named Mr. Meeseeks. The eager extra-terrestrial serves as a temporary personal helper, tasked with aiding their summoner in a single, simple task. Once the task has been completed, Mr. Meeseeks breathes a sigh of relief and promptly ceases to exist.

When given the Meeseeks Box, Summer (Spencer Grammer) asks that Mr. Meeseeks help her become more popular at school, and the alien delivers an inspiring speech. Beth (Sarah Chalke) asks that she be made a "more complete woman," and Mr. Meeseeks takes her on a date and says encouraging things. But Jerry (Chris Parnell) asks that Mr. Meeseeks help him improve his golf game, which sounds innocuous enough on the surface.

For Rick and Morty fans, this April Fool's Day is leaving them feeling anything but foolish. Corbin Bernsen & Stephen Tobolowsky Wrap On Indie Comedy Pilot ‘Woodstockers’
Image
Exclusive: Corbin Bernsen (Clipped) has wrapped production on Woodstockers, an indie TV pilot for which he wrote the original draft, in which he stars opposite Stephen Tobolowsky (Nobody Wants This).

The original logline for the dark generational comedy teased the story of “two guys who went to Woodstock in ’69 and never left,” with Bernsen and Tobolowsky respectively playing friends Lenny Baker and Cal Reddick. But per Bernsen, who relocated to the Hudson Vally six years ago, “Early on I had the good fortune to connect with Michael Lang, one of the original organizers of Woodstock, and quickly discovered a deeper story about the 60’s and a generation who espoused ‘Love and Peace,’ but failed in their early attempts to ‘change the world.’ At the same time, I witnessed a new generation dusting off the “hippie” mantra and giving it their own spin.”

Woodstockers‘ cast also includes Oscar nominee Barbara Hershey...

Spencer Grammer & Ajay Naidu Star In Indie TV Pilot ‘Books’
Spencer Grammer at an event for The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (2009)
Exclusive: Independent television pilots made some noise in 2024 with series such as Mark Duplass’ Penelope landing at Netflix.

The team behind Books, a comedy pilot, hope this remains true next year.

The project is headlined by Spencer Grammer, who voices Summer Smith in Rick and Morty, and Ajay Naidu, who starred in Office Space.

Filmed at Market Block Books, an independent bookstore in Troy, New York this week, the pilot follows cancelled author Wren Wild (Grammer) as she leads a quirky crew willing to do anything to keep their bookstore alive. Naidu plays her silent partner Murry, a former book agent who has no idea what he’s doing.

The pilot comes from director Micah Khan, who recently made his feature directorial debut with The Zombie Wedding, producer Victoria Diana and cinematographer Adam Muro with Tim Cahill, Kristina Libby and Patrick Regan of 7th Draft Productions exec producing.

Worst Episodes of The Best TV Shows
Image
For TV shows like Breaking Bad and The Sopranos, it can be tough for viewers to find an episode considered "terrible" because that's how fantastic those series are. However, there are a plethora of other popular and acclaimed shows with one bad seed within a library of many great episodes. It proves that not every show, no matter how beloved it can be, is completely perfect.

These particular episodes have become infamous for being a far cry from the brilliant storytelling the rest of the series had. These episodes can feel like unnecessary filler, unhumorous adventures, or creations whose sole purpose is to rile up the fanbase. Some episodes are even series finales, which can leave a noticeable stain on the show's legacy. From the Game of Thrones ending to Stranger Things' backdoor pilot for a spin-off, viewers have nothing but bad things to say about these episodes of otherwise incredible shows.

Summer Time: ‘Rick and Morty’s Spencer Grammer on Incest Babies, ‘Doing a Die Hard’ and Never Knowing Exactly Which Summer She’s Playing
Image
In the earliest episodes of Rick and Morty, nearly all of the action was focused on the two titular leads, but as the seasons have rolled by, Morty’s teenage sister Summer has become a considerable presence on the show in her own right. She’s worked for the devil, become the queen to a bunch of aliens, had an incest baby with her brother and single-handedly killed a group of bad guys trying to “do a Die Hard.”

Spencer Grammer is the woman who has given the teen her voice — as well as helped further hone that voice after all these years. I recently spoke to Grammer about Summer’s most badass moments, how she’s found herself becoming as vulgar as Summer and the lines she knows every Rick and Morty fan wants to hear (they’re also very vulgar).

What drew you to voice acting?

It’s sort of a sad story.

Dan Harmon Confirms That ‘Rick and Morty’ Just Got Two Seasons Closer to the Hundred-Year Promise
Image
Only 88 more years’ worth of contract renewals to go.

When Adult Swim aired the 22-minute pilot of Rick and Morty on December 2, 2013, the first episode from the series adaptation of some unnamed asshole’s crass, chaotic Back to the Future parody came with a promise – “A hundred years Rick and Morty!” At the time, the star power of Community creator and Rick and Morty co-head Dan Harmon was hardly enough to ensure a century’s worth of episodes from a series that had just premiered on a random Monday night at the beginning of winter, but, within the first few seasons of Rick and Morty’s evolution into Adult Swim’s flagship series and the internet’s most talked-about sci-fi comedy phenomenon, Adult Swim made the wise decision to book Harmon and his forgettable partner through a full ten seasons and 100 episodes.

‘Rick and Morty’ Renewed for 2 More Seasons, Extending Animated Comedy Through Season 12
Image
A hundred years of “Rick and Morty” is starting to become less of a joke and more of a promise. During a panel at New York Comic Con, Adult Swim renewed its sci-fi animated hit for two additional seasons beyond the three forthcoming seasons it already had on deck, bringing the full “Rick and Morty” season count up to 12.

This isn’t the first impressive renewal for Dan Harmon’s show, which concluded its seventh season last December. In 2017, the comedy was renewed for a shocking 70 episodes. With an average of 10 episodes released a season, that first renewal brought the series’ count up to 10 seasons. Now Adult Swim has added two more installments to that list.

“From Season 1, ‘Rick and Morty’ set a new standard in adult animation and has shown no signs of stopping,” Michael Ouweleen, Adult Swim’s president, said in a statement. “Dan, Scott and the rest...

Image
Spencer Grammer, Harland Williams, Will Friedle, Harry Lennix, Juliana Harkavy and John Dimaggio are among the performers comprising the ensemble voice cast of the animated sci-fi comedy movie Isla Monstro.

Hailing from multimedia company Abyssmal Entertainment, the feature has completed production and launches promotion at San Diego Comic-Con with a booth and a panel taking place Saturday. The project is directed and animated by Steven Shea (Surviving Supercon), who co-wrote the script with James Schrader, and it is currently seeking distribution.

Isla Monstro centers on ne’er-do-well Duke (voiced by Schrader), who falls off a cruise ship and awakens on an abandoned, top secret government island that is rampant with mutants and monsters left over from a failed “super soldier” mission from the 1980s. Duke concocts a scheme to convert the island into a high-class resort getaway with the creatures serving as staff, which does not please the U.S. government.
