Terri Blackstock’s If I Run Review: Kat Graham & Evan Roderick Leave Us Hooked and Hanging
Image
It’s always bittersweet when Lifetime leaves us on edge!

Thus far, the Faith slate has been interesting. Faith in the Flames was a classic ripped-from-the-headlines tale inspired by the real story of a brave heroine, and Before Your Father Finds Us was an original Lifetime thriller.

Meanwhile, Terri Blackstock’s If I Run is a suspenseful book adaptation and the first part of a trilogy.

(Lifetime/Screenshot)

They’ve mixed and matched vibes and feels, with some rooted heavily in faith and others barely scratching the surface. Ideally, it aims to provide a diverse range of content and help us determine what resonates with viewers the most.

Of course, Lifetime adapting books to the screen is nothing new, and goodness knows those have resulted in some of the best and most addictive television series and films over the past couple of decades.

Here’s Why You Should Make Time...

Kat Graham, James Tupper, and Evan Roderick in If I Run (2025)
Lifetime is bringing another of Terri Blackstock’s best-selling novels to the screen with If I Run, a thriller centered on a woman forced to flee after being framed for murder. The movie, starring Kat Graham, leans into the network’s familiar “woman in peril” territory but grounds its story in the specifics of Blackstock’s popular book […]

Smoke Season 1 Episode 7 Review: Whitewashed Tombs
Image
In one of the final episodes of the season, Smoke takes big swings as a game of cat and mouse develops between the investigators and Dave.

I won’t lie, Dave has been driving me insane. How does someone who reeks of being a loser get so ahead in life? When the episode starts, he’s being interviewed on television.

Heroes deserve to have a moment in the spotlight, but losers don’t. And as usual, Dave is the charming, cringeworthy loser he is. This man is truly confusing. But those are the upsides of being a conventionally attractive cisgender heterosexual white man. They tend to fail upwards.

(Robert Falconer/Apple TV+)

But as things escalate and Dave gets celebrated for being a hero, I’m thinking “the bigger they are, the harder they fall.”

Smoke Season 1 Episode 7 feels like the season’s penultimate episode as it sets the stage for Dave’s eventual takedown.

Soft Boys, Sad Boys & Bad Boys: What The Summer I Turned Pretty Reveals About the Perception of Masculinity
Image
To say that it has been an interesting season of The Summer I Turned Pretty would be an understatement.

But it has inspired some observations about the show that may depart from the norm, and with each installment, more aspects of the show come to light.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3 Episode 4 was an hour that quietly reinforced and raised some points about gender, and in this particular case, I couldn’t help but think about the series’ approach to masculinity.

(Prime Video/Screenshots)

The trappings of masculinity are pervasive throughout this series, and we see it reflected in all of the male characters, but it’s not just about how they behave, but the general reaction to them.

Adam’s emotional abuse has been pervasive throughout the series. Still, it feels particularly glaring during this final one. So much of that lies in his own narcissism and what...

Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine on Freddy’s Final Acts on Smoke Season 1 Episode 7: “I Had to Go to the Edge”
Image
Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine has delivered two astonishing performances this summer — one as the gentle Blessing on Dexter: Resurrection and the other as Freddy, the deeply broken arsonist in Smoke.

But it’s Freddy’s devastating final moments on Smoke that truly shook us.

We spoke with Ntare again, this time after fans witnessed Freddy’s chilling confrontation with Dave (Taron Egerton), which marked the climax of his arc — and the end of his life.

(Courtesy of Apple TV+) “That was the pinnacle scene for my character.”

Freddy spends most of Smoke lurking on the edges, a mysterious and damaged man whose motivations are never entirely clear. But when Dave walks into that interrogation room on Smoke Season 1 Episode 7, the power dynamic flips.

“Getting to go toe-to-toe with Taron Egerton was such a thrill because he’s such a dynamic performer,” Ntare shared. “He just sucks all the energy in the room in,...

Michael Jackson Movie’s New Ending & Sequel Plan Reportedly Revealed After Legal Nightmare
Image
The new plan for Michael's ending and second film has reportedly been revealed. Michael is a planned Michael Jackson biopic from director Antoine Fuqua. In it, the King of Pop is played by Jackson's real-life nephew, Jaafar Jackson. The supporting cast includes Miles Teller, Colman Domingo, Kat Graham, Laura Harrier, and Nia Long.

In a different world, Michael would have been released already. The film was once scheduled to come out on April 18, 2025. Production delays then pushed the movie to October 2025, but the film then got entwined in legal trouble that left it pushed once again. Now, it is slated for April 24, 2026.

As per Puck, the plan for Michael has now been revealed. As of now, producer Graham King is still hoping for two biopics based on Jackson, but only one has been confirmed. The ending of this confirmed film will be a performance that leaves audiences "happy and uplifted.

Michael Jackson Biopic Sets April 2026 Release After Delays
Image
The Michael Jackson biopic, originally set for release in April 2025 but delayed by a potentially litigious third act, will now arrive a year later in April 2026.

The Antoine Fuqua-directed Michael, starring the late singer’s nephew Jaafar Jackson as the King of Pop, initially wrapped shooting in May 2024, but its initial April 18, 2025, release was postponed until October 2025 after it was revealed that the film required 22 days of reshoots.

The reshoots, it was reported, were needed due to the film’s third act, which in some way delved into the...

Deadline reports that a second movie about Jackson remains in development.Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, the biopic is 27-year-old Jaafar’s first major acting role. But Variety previously reported the project may be split into two parts, contributing to the postponement.Filming for Michael wrapped principal photography in May 2024, but the script, written by John Logan, then underwent revisions ahead of planned reshoots. Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ moonwalks out of 2025 Oscar contention
Image
It's official: Michael, Antoine Fuqua's anticipated Michael Jackson musical biopic, has beat it out of this year's Oscar race.

As Gold Derby reported months ago, the Lionsgate film made an expected move from a planned Oct. 3 release to April 24, 2026.

Michael had been targeted as potential awards bait coming into 2025, but its fate seemed iffy when it was omitted from Lionsgate's CinemaCon presentation to movie theater exhibitors in April. This was a 180 from last year's CinemaCon when the studio shared a first look at Michael.

Weeks later, Lionsgate executives said the film was likely to shift into 2026 amid reports that the four-hour cut would be reconfigured as a two-part release. The two-fer is no longer on the table; instead, Fuqua has been given extra time to chop Michael down to a single film with a manageable running time.

The movie has been beset with controversy. In January, Puck reported that Michael,...

Michael Jackson Biopic Moves to April
Image
The Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” will open in standard theaters and in Imax worldwide on April 24, moving from its earlier October date.

Lionsgate is releasing the film domestically, with Universal handling distribution in the rest of the world except for Japan, which is handled by Kino Films.

Antoine Fuqua directs, with John Logan as screenwriter and Jaafar Jackson starring as his late uncle. Graham King, an Oscar winner for “The Departed,” produces.

“‘Michael’ explores the global superstar’s journey to become known to the world as the King of Pop, presenting an intimate look at the life and enduring legacy of one of the most influential, trailblazing artists the world has ever known,” the synopsis reads.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in May that the movie was “likely” to move to 2026. Although it wrapped production in May 2024, the project underwent reshoots and came in with a lengthy initial cut. Earlier,...

Michael Jackson Biopic Moves to Spring 2026 Release
Image
The Michael Jackson biopic from Lionsgate and Universal is looking to thrill audiences next year.

Director Antoine Fuqua’s Michael is set to hit theaters and Imax on April 24, 2026, after its release was delayed several times, most recently having been dated for the fall of 2025. Marking his feature debut is Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson in the lead role as the pop music icon. Lionsgate is distributing the movie domestically, while Universal handles the global launch.

The Hollywood Reporter previously reported that Michael was set for 22 days of additional photography to take place in June. Sources noted at the time that the film, initially intended to span the star’s life and have a lengthy run time, was now expected to end with Jackson leaving his family’s group The Jacksons after the release of his first solo album, 1979’s Off the Wall.

Puck reported in January that Michael’s...

Tyler Perry’s 14% Rotten Tomatoes Rom-Com Defies Controversy For Another Week of Streaming Success
Image
Tyler Perry has come under fire recently after being accused of sexual assault and workplace harassment by The Oval actor Derek Dixon, but his latest releases haven’t suffered for the disturbing allegations. Perry most recently wrote, directed, and starred in Madea’s Destination Wedding, the latest film in the Madea franchise following the titular character who goes to the Bahamas for a destination wedding, only for tensions to arise which lead to suspicions about the marriage’s legitimacy. Madea’s Destination Wedding hit Netflix on July 11, and the film is currently charting in the top 10 in more than 50 countries globally, including the United States. This success also comes in spite of poor scores of 14% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and even a 44% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Perry also recently found success with Straw, the psychological thriller starring Taraji P. Hensonthat spent several weeks atop streaming charts. Henson spoke about her connection...

Image
A former The Vampire Diaries star has fond memories of the series and recently affirmed that her co-stars from the show are some of her best friends. The Vampire Diaries aired from 2009 to 2017 on the CW, following teenager Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev), who falls into a love triangle with two vampire brothers while uncovering the supernatural history of her hometown.

Staying on board even after Nina Dobrev left The Vampire Diaries, Kat Graham portrayed witch Bonnie Bennett for all eight seasons. Elena's best friends are Bonnie and Caroline Forbes (Candice King), the latter of whom becomes a vampire at the beginning of The Vampire Diaries season 2, arguably the best season of the show.

This ‘The Parent Trap’ Star, 61, Wants a Reboot Over 20 Years Later — Under 1 Condition
Image
Dennis Quaid may be somewhat against the possibility of this memorable classic getting a reboot, but another star is definitely down to bring the rom-com back to life. Directed by Nancy Meyers in her feature directorial debut, The Parent Trap, starring Quaid, was released in July 1998 as a remake and a legacy sequel to the 1961 film of the same name. The iconic actor was joined by a brilliant ensemble, including Lisa Ann Walter, who was most recently seen in the award-winning Abbott Elementary and has now voiced her interest in a Parent Trap reboot – but under one condition.

Speaking with People Magazine at an Abbott Elementary event in L.A., Walter named those she would want involved in the potential sequel to The Parent Trap, starting with Meyers, who directed and wrote the 1998 film. “One hundred percent, if Nancy Meyers wrote it,” she declared. The TV producer who portrayed Chessy,...

Directed by Tyler Perry, 55, 'Straw' Dodges Controversies To Break Netflix Records in First Week of Release
Image
Despite a wave of negative reviews — and even more serious offscreen controversies — Tyler Perry’s latest Netflix film, Straw, has become an undeniable streaming juggernaut. After debuting on June 6, the psychological thriller starring Taraji P. Henson has officially pulled off the biggest single-week viewership of any movie on Netflix so far in 2025. In just its second week, Straw nearly doubled its audience, soaring to 48.9 million views — a 93.3% jump from its opening weekend haul of 25.3 million.

That first-week performance was already enough to make it Netflix’s most-watched film for the week of June 2, but the new numbers solidify Straw as not just a hit, but a record-breaker. The movie easily outpaced Netflix’s next most-watched film, the documentary Titan: The OceanGate Submersible Disaster, which came in second with 17.4 million views during the same window.

Straw’s surge comes at a curious time. In the background of its release, Perry is...

Despite Its Rotten Tomatoes Score, Tyler Perry's New Netflix Thriller Has Spent a Week at the Top of Their Charts
Image
Netflix debuted its new thriller film, Straw, on the platform last Friday, and the film has hit its stride with a legendary run of streaming success. Straw stars Taraji P. Henson and follows a single mother as she finds herself wandering down a path she never envisioned for herself, suddenly in the middle of suspicion in an indifferent world. Straw hit Netflix on June 6, and the film is still the most popular movie on the streamer, sitting at #1 at the time of writing. What makes this even more impressive is that the film has not been particularly well-received by critics or audiences. Straw currently sits at a “rotten” 50% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and even the audience-driven Popcornmeter lands at a 74%.

Straw was written and directed by Tyler Perry, and it also stars Sherri Shepherd, Teyana Taylor, Sinbad, Glynn Turman, and more. Perry will always be known for his work on the Madea franchise,...

Per ScreenRant, the latest thriller from Madea creator Perry has closed out its first weekend on Netflix with some solid reviews from viewers. At the time of writing, Straw holds a 76% approval rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes' user-generated "Popcornmeter," as averaged across more than 250 user-submitted ratings. Although there are not currently enough critical ratings to generate a "Tomatometer" score for the film, early reviews from critics point towards it being a general success.

Written and directed by Perry, who also produced alongside Angi Bones and Tony Strickland, Straw stars Taraji P. Henson as Janiya Wiltkinson, a single mother living with her often ill daughter Aria. Over the course of the film, a series of minor crises eventually build up to a full-blown lethal breakdown...

Tyler Perry’s Duplicity Review: Truth Hidden in Plain Sight
Image
Rodney Blackburn’s final jog—an ordinary act rendered fatal by a single, split-second decision—resonates through every frame of Tyler Perry’s Duplicity. In the moments after the shot, attorney Marley Wells and journalist Fela Blackburn spiral from disbelief to determination: two Black women thrust into a maze of politics, prejudice, and hidden agendas.

Perry teases a dual identity for his film—political drama meets mystery thriller—promising labyrinthine turns beneath a veneer of newsroom monologues and courtroom speeches.

Here lie our protagonists: Marley, lawyer by day and sleuth by necessity; Fela, whose anchor-bright façade cracks when personal loss collides with public spectacle; Tony, the ex-cop turned private eye, Marley’s steadfast yet fallible ally; Caleb, the rookie officer whose trembling finger on the trigger becomes the story’s fulcrum; and Kevin, the seasoned partner whose institutional loyalties blur moral lines.

Who really fired the fatal shot? And what...

“At the end, when you look at the music library, when you look at what Michael Jackson was able to deliver in terms of music and contributions to art, whether or not that can be fit into one movie comfortably or not is a question that we are absolutely asking,” Lionsgate film chief Adam Fogelson said,...

Michael Jackson Biopic ‘Likely’ to Move to 2026
Image
Michael Jackson fans will have to wait a bit longer for Antoine Fuqua’s biopic “Michael.”

During Lionsgate’s Q4 2025 earnings call, CEO Jon Feltheimer shared an update on the film starring Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who makes his screen debut in the project.

“In regard to our Michael Jackson biopic, we’re excited about the 3½ hours of amazing footage from producer Graham King and director Antoine Fuqua, and we will be announcing a definitive release strategy & timing in the next few weeks,” he said. “I would note that it is likely we will move ‘Michael’ out of the fiscal year which will impact fiscal ’26 financial results but will bolster an already strong fiscal ’27 slate.”

The fiscal calendar ends on March 31, 2026, so Feltheimer’s statement indicates that the film (or films) will likely debut after April 1, 2026. Last month, Variety reported that the film would likely be split into two...

The Vampire Diaries Plot Twists Had 2 Major Stars Thinking They Were Toast: “Feels kind of final”
Image
Whether you shipped them hard or just loved their banter-filled friendship, Damon and Bonnie had one of the most unexpected yet beautifully built dynamics in The Vampire Diaries. For seasons, they couldn’t stand each other. Damon was all snark and smirks, Bonnie was all fire and side-eyes, and it looked like they’d forever be stuck in “grudging ally” territory.

Then Season 6 came along and flipped the script. Stuck in a prison world with nothing but snark, pancakes, and subtle longing? That’s peak enemies-to-besties energy — with serious could’ve-been-lovers potential.

When did Tvd start to lose its spark? Some say it was Elena turning vamp in Season 4. Others blame Nina Dobrev peacing out in Season 6. But for me? The show’s downfall was when it fumbled one of its biggest endgame-level arcs: Damon and Bonnie’s slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers goldmine. It was right there, diary entry ready — and they just let it burn.

Jennifer Garner, Chelsea Handler, Scooter Braun Share ‘Borrowed Spotlight’ With Holocaust Survivors
Image
Yetta Kane, a 92-year-old Holocaust survivor, steps onto the set of a Hollywood photoshoot. It’s August 2023 and sticky hot in Los Angeles. Kane is dressed in a knee-length skirt and matching jacket, a Star of David pendant affixed to her lapel. Her hair is a sweeping crest of pale blonde, her eyes the same hue as the cloudless L.A. sky. Kane’s granddaughter, Emily Kane Miller, pregnant with her third child, is also in tow, and they take a seat in the studio’s waiting area. Yetta opens her purse, pulls out a make-up compact and applies lipstick, and it’s at that moment I think back to a conversation I’d once had with another Holocaust survivor decades earlier.

“Did you dream about anything when you were here?” I’d asked the woman. We were standing alongside the train tracks at Auschwitz, where I’d gone on...

16 Years Later and ‘The Vampire Diaries’ Creators Still Deny They Systematically Didn’t Devalue Its Only Black Female Lead
Image
The Vampire Diaries stands as one of the most culturally significant shows in recent years. It has a massive following and has ingrained itself into popular culture in a way that very few shows have. While the series has a very big and passionate fandom, they naturally have disagreements about certain parts of the series.

While a lot of debate surrounds certain characters, like Matt and Elena being insufferable, some conversation does surround real-world elements. More specifically, there has been a long-running conversation about how the series approaches people of color. While many believe that the production of the series did have some layers of racism to it, others argue that there was no such thing.

Amid so many disagreements, Kat Graham said something along similar lines, and it is forcing fans to finally face the truth.

Michael Jackson Biopic Release Date Doubtful, Might Be Split Into Two Films
Image
CinemaCon is all about studios showcasing to exhibitors what they have on their docket that they should be excited about. Lionsgate had its presentation and wisely revealed that John Wick would be coming back for a fifth round of action while also discussing how that universe would be expanding. Lionsgate also has what could be one of the biggest musical biopics on the schedule in Michael, a film directed by Antoine Fuqua that should get fans of Michael Jackson excited. It would be a project that a studio would want to showcase to exhibitors since it's supposed to open in the fall of this year, but it was noticeably absent from their presentation. Why was it missing in action? As it turns out, some of the issues have to do with how to release the film, and the other matter in question is if it will even release this year at all.

Michael Jackson biopic ‘Michael’ likely being split into two films with release delayed
Image
If you have Michael, Antoine Fuqua's Michael Jackson musical biopic, in your early 2026 Oscar predictions, you might want to make an adjustment. The film likely won't be released in 2025 and may be split into two movies, Deadline reports.

Michael's current cut runs nearly four hours, and the possibility of it being split into two parts is on the table but not definite yet, according to the trade. The Lionsgate film is currently scheduled to open on Oct. 3, but the date remains in flux.

This development is not surprising after Lionsgate offered no updates on Michael during its CinemaCon presentation to movie theater exhibitors on Tuesday. This was a 180 from last year's CinemaCon when the studio shared a first look at Michael.

Michael Jackson Biopic Likely Splitting into Two Movies and Delaying Release Date
Image
Antoine Fuqua’s upcoming Michael Jackson biopic, “Michael,” may be split into two movies. As a result, the Lionsgate and Universal Pictures International project will likely push its current Oct. 3 release date.

While “Michael” was a major part of last year’s Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, no footage from the project was shown during this year’s outing. The film, produced by “Bohemian Rhapsody’s” Graham King, wrapped principal photography in May 2024, but John Logan’s script is in the process of being revised in advance of reshoots.

“Michael,” which carries a roughly $155 million budget, stars Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson, who makes his screen debut in the film. Colman Domingo and Nia Long will play family heads Joe and Katherine Jackson, while Miles Teller will play Jackson’s attorney and advisor John Branca. Larenz Tate will star as Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, while Laura Harrier will play portray pioneering...

The #1 Most-Watched Thriller on Prime Video Features a Former Teen Star in a Mature New Role
Image
Tyler Perry has long been a divisive filmmaker. Some people eat up his escapist thrillers featuring twisty narratives and passionate affairs. Others are not as keen on the director’s work, calling him out for problematic depictions of Black characters. Despite the persistent criticisms of the filmmaker’s output, he continues to release new content with a certain regularity. Perry debuted his latest effort on Prime Video earlier this month, and it’s already climbing the charts.

Perry’s newest picture is called Tyler Perry’s Duplicity. I want to say that the film marks a step forward for the director, but the early reviews tell a different story. RogerEbert.Com posted a one-star review of the director’s new film lamenting that he seems to return to old habits with his latest offering after showing some positive progress with his 2024 Netflix release The Six Triple Eight. The critique also...

Tyler Perry's 'Duplicity' Scores 0% Rotten Tomatoes Score But is Number 1 on Streaming
Image
If there is one guarantee in life, it is that a new Tyler Perry movie will find its way into the daily charts of whichever streaming platform it has landed on, and it will be absolutely crucified by both critics and audiences in its reviews. So it has proven once again with the writer/director/actor’s latest offering, Duplicity.

Following such critical disasters as A Fall From Grace and A Madea Homecoming, the relentless procession of Perry-orchestrated movies and TV shows continues with Duplicity, which has debuted at the top of Prime Video’s U.S. chart and in the number two spot on the global chart. The film’s synopsis reads:

"High-powered attorney Marley (Kat Graham) faces her most personal case yet when she is tasked with uncovering the truth behind the shooting of her best friend Fela's (Meagan Tandy) husband (Joshua Adeyeye). With the help of...
