Lanterns Is A John Stewart Story Says James Gunn, HBO CEO Thinks It Will Be An Emmy-Contender
Image
As many suspected, it sounds as if the Dcu's premiere Green Lantern will be Aaron Pierre's John Stewart, at least by the end of the upcoming HBO superhero drama, Lanterns.

Speaking to CBS Morning, Dcu co-chair James Gunn confirmed that Stewart is the focal point of the story, despite other Green Lanterns being featured.

"We go into Supergirl and Lanterns next summer...It's basically John Stewart's story in a lot of ways, but with those other characters," said Gunn, referencing Guy Gardner and Hal Jordan.

Elsewhere, HBO boss Casey Bloys stated that he's feeling bullish about Lanterns and thinks the show will be just as strong of an Emmy contender as The Penguin, which just secured 24 nominations.

Responding to that notion in an interview with The Wrap,...

Forgotten Tim Burton-Produced Vampire Movie Just Got Staked by ’28 Years Later’ at the Global Box Office
Image
Nearly a month into its theatrical run, director Danny Boyle's 28 Years Later is sitting neither here nor there. It's a hit, but it hasn't been as massive as Sony would've hoped when it shelled out millions to secure the distribution rights to three new films in the franchise. 28 Years Laterwill probably hit the $150 million mark globally by the end of its run, but this is less than half of what John Krasinski's first A Quiet Place film grossed in theaters. That said, 28 Years Later has outperformed each of its two predecessors with its $138 million haul, and has established itself as one of the 100 highest-grossing horror movies of all time. This weekend, it overtook one of the most era-specific movies in recent memory.

You had to be there to witness the sudden fascination with author Seth Grahame-Smith's comedy novels, two of which were produced into movies.

Lanterns Pilot Director James Hawes Says The Series Starts Off Grounded And Then Goes Cosmic
Image
Earlier reports about Lanterns being grounded may have been misconstrued by fans.

Recently, James Gunn tried to clarify those comments, and now, James Hawes, who directed the Lanterns pilot, is doing the same.

Hawes recently spoke to Phase Hero about the release of The Amateur but also touched on his work on the Dcu's upcoming Green Lantern drama.

"The scripts have so much with, so much character, it's a buddy cop movie, played out in a True Detective, Fargo, No Country For Old Men naturalistic [way] and then somebody flies," exclaimed the British television director.

Addressing previous reports and comments about the series being grounded and the assumption that everything is set on Earth, Hawes stated, "I'm going to talk very obliquely about this because there are excitements to come," teased Hawes.

"It won't disappoint the classic fans. I think it will invite in a whole new audience as well, " Hawes said.

Lionsgate just pulled off a bit of movie magic at CinemaCon. The studio officially unveiled the title for the third film in its hit Now You See Me franchise: Now You See Me: Now You Don’t — although not using this title earlier in the saga remains something of a crime. The third entry, Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, will hit theaters on November 14, 2025, and it has already completed principal photography. Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner Is an "Overconfident" Green Lantern in Dcu's 'Superman'
Image
Along with David Corenswet's Clark Kent, and a smattering of other DC heroes and villains, James Gunn's Superman will also introduce the Green Lanterns to the DC Universe through Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner. Casual comic book fans may know the name Hal Jordan, thanks to the panned Ryan Reynolds-led Green Lantern movie, but Gardner couldn't be more different. While Guy Gardner is a hero and a very strong member of the Green Lantern Corp, Nathan Fillion recently revealed he's not the typical superhero you're used to.

During an interview with TV Guide, Nathan Fillion hyped up Guy Gardner's big-screen debut in Superman, and clued audiences in on what to expect from the extremely arrogant Green Lantern member. "You don't have to be good to be a Green Lantern," Fillion began. "You just have to be fearless." As well as the power bestowed upon him from his...

Rumor: Jenna Ortega Is Reportedly Being Considered For A Major Marvel Role
Image
Thanks to breakout roles in the Scream revival, Netflix's Wednesday and last year's Beetlejuice sequel, Jenna Ortega is fast becoming one of the most sought-after young actors in Hollywood, so it probably won't come as much of a surprise to learn that she's being courted by Marvel Studios.

We have previously heard that Ortega was being eyed for a superhero part, but Daniel Richtman is now reporting that the actress is being considered for a big Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

It's always worth noting that Marvel meets with a lot of talent, but if Ortega has actually entered negotiations for an upcoming project, there's a good chance the trades will get hold of the story before too long.

Even if she is in talks, there's no guarantee that things will work out. Ortega has a busy schedule ahead, with a lead role in Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun adaptation,...

Based on Tos, it has been 16 years since the theatrical release of the rebooted Star Trek trilogy, which ended with Star Trek Beyond in 2016. With fandom anticipation for Star Trek 4 at an all-time high, according to Trekmovie.com, J.J. Abrams and “Deadpool & Wolverine” producer Simon Kinberg are attached as co-producers with a possible start of production in 2025.

Star Trek 4’s former director, Simon Kinberg, is out and tapped to write and produce a new Star Wars trilogy. Various outlets have reported that Star Trek 4 will be an origin story of 2009’s Star Trek movie instead of a previous Kelvin timeline plot.

Star Trek 4 will be in capable directing and screenwriting hands with Toby Haynes (“Andor” and “Black Mirror” director) and Seth Grahame-Smith (“Beetlejuice Beetlejuice” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” screenwriter). With the Grahame-Smith Star Trek 4 script completed with a possible 2026 release date. Although, there are some uncertainties.

Directed by Olatunde Osunsanmi and written by Craig Sweeny, Star Trek: Section 31 premieres Friday, January 24, on Paramount+. Section 31 is the first Star Trek movie made for streaming, and it marks the return of Michelle Yeoh as her fan-favorite anti-heroine, Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery. Gremlins 3 Gets A Reassuring Update Despite Being In Development For 8 Years
Image
Gremlins 3 has received a reassuring update despite being in development for eight years, when the original writer was attached to the sequel. In 2017, it was announced a potential Gremlins 3 script had been written by Chris Columbus, who penned the screenplay for the 1984 original. Since then, the movie hasn't gotten any concrete updates, aside from confirmation by Colombus in 2020 that creature puppets would be used instead of CGI. The latest release from the franchise is Max's animated Gremlins series, aimed at a younger audience and serving as a prequel to the original.

Now, in a report from Deadline about Warner Bros.' plans for future movie prospects, it was confirmed Gremlins 3 is still in development, with Columbus serving as the writer. This is confirmation that, despite the project not getting any concrete news for five years - and being in development for eight - the sequel is still being worked on.

The 10 Highest-Grossing Movies of 2024
Image
2024 was a great year for movie fans, delivering a combination of instant classics, blockbuster hits, and well-received sequels, from Nosferatu and Longlegs to Twisters and Alien: Romulus. While some of the year's best movies weren't blockbuster hits, others crossed box office records, delivering fan service and entertainment for various fan bases. The year has been perfect for large franchises.

Although not a surprise, 2024 marks a rarity for Hollywood as a year when all of the US' ten highest-grossing movies are sequels, without exception. From long-awaited superhero team-ups to continuations of iconic family animated movies, the year has raked in billions for major studios, affirming the industry's focus on major franchises. Financial success is no guarantee of quality one way or the other, but the year has produced plenty of successful and entertaining films.

Actors That Fans Didn't Realize Starred in Several 2024 Movies
Image
In another distinctive year for movies, 2024 featured many actors in Hollywood getting very booked and busy. It is typical for an actor to have one or two projects for them to stand out in the year, yet some actors go beyond and star in three or more movies. Because 2024 became crowded with new cinematic features, most viewers didn't realize they saw one actor multiple times.

These actors in 2024 showcased more of their range. They could transition from a spectacular blockbuster to a more character-driven drama or even an animated feature. Acting veterans like Willem Dafoe and Giancarlo Esposito and continuously rising stars such as Margaret Qualley and Fred Hechinger are just a few of several performers who worked extra hard during this particular year.

Jesse Eisenberg | Actor and filmmaker is set to make a musical
Jesse Eisenberg
Actor turned filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg is set to write and direct a musical comedy starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti.

Actor turned filmmaker Jesse Eisenberg’s next film, A Real Pain, isn’t due out until early 2025, but his film project after that has reportedly been set up already.

It’s said to be an untitled musical comedy starring Julianne Moore and Paul Giamatti. With Wicked likely to whip up a storm at the box office this weekend (Wizard Of Oz reference!), musicals are clearly back in vogue among Hollywood studios.

As first published by Deadline, the synopsis for Eisenberg’s movie reads as follows:

The film follows a shy woman who is unexpectedly cast in a local production of an original musical. Under the spell of the strong-willed and enigmatic director, she loses herself in the role and the high-stakes world of this community theater production.

What Happened To Kung Fury 2? The Real Reason David Sandberg's Movie Isn't Out Yet
Image
If you were an Internet 1.0 denizen, and/or you count yourself among the fans of geek culture, then 2015's "Kung Fury" is probably a favorite of yours. The short film written, directed by, and starring Swedish filmmaker David Sandberg, is a clever and vibrant homage to '80s action movies. A sort of collision between a meme, an Adult Swim special, a parody film, and a fan film (complete with its own underdog Kickstarter crowdfunding origin story) that beat the odds, "Kung Fury" features the involvement of celebrities like Jorma Taccone (of The Lonely Island) and David Hasselhoff, lending a bit of legitimate star power to what otherwise may have been seen as a curious goof. All this is to say that "Kung Fury" is thoroughly delightful, and its short length only helps make the prospect of a sequel more interesting.

As it turns out, "Kung Fury 2" became way...

Should fans be optimistic over who's leading the Star Trek Origins film?
Image
Star Trek Origins is a go, and it'll tell the story of the earliest days of the franchise. It'll focus on the developing relations between humans and aliens; most likely focusing on the developing dynamic between humans and Vulcans. It sounds like it may be akin to the old sci-fi film/show Alien Nation in its presentation.

Funny enough, the show version of Alien Nation starred Gary Graham, who would feature on Star Trek: Enterprise as Solar.

With the film now officially in development, who are the people behind the project? Well, the director of the franchise is Toby Haynes, while long-time producer and writer Seth Grahame-Smith will write the story. A story that some fans are nervous about seeing. Yet, should they be?

What have Haynes and Grahame-Smith done and should that give fans pause or excitement about the project?

Grahame-Smith seems to be the more accomplished of the...

Script for Star Trek: Origins is reportedly done and on its way to a greenlight
Image
The script for Star Trek: Origins, which is not the official name for the movie, written by Seth Grahame-Smith [pictured above], author of the New York Times Bestselling novels, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter, reportedly has been finished and is now on its way to an approval. [via Trekmovie] As previously reported, this could mean the movie will begin filming next year and be ready for a release to the big screen in 2026.

At the helm of the movie is Toby Haynes who directed Black Mirror's U.S.S. Callister. That particular episode was written by the series creators Charlie Brooke and William Bridges, who is a Star Trek fan, and was as close to a Star Trek episode as Haynes has gotten. Supposedly, there will be a sequel to this episode in the seventh season of Black Mirror, which Variety confirmed is still happening. It's unknown whether...

Why Lucasfilm Entrusted Simon Kinberg to Pilot the Next ‘Star Wars’ Movies
Image
When news broke on Thursday that Simon Kinberg — best known for being a writer, producer, director or all of the above on much of the “X-Men” franchise — had been hired by Lucasfilm to write and produce a new “Star Wars” trilogy, it came as a surprise to many executives at Lucasfilm and Disney. The project is considered internally to be in deep development and not nearly ready to be made public.

There was also some surprise within the wider industry that Lucasfilm had turned to Kinberg as the newest steward of “Star Wars” on the big screen. According to multiple industry sources with experience working in the franchise space, Kinberg is seen on one level as a sensible and safe choice. Starting with 2005’s “XXX: State of the Union” and “Mr. and Mrs. Smith,” his films as a screenwriter have grossed more than $3.3 billion worldwide. Beyond the “X-Men” films, he’s also produced “Cinderella,...

Star Trek: Origins movie officially in pre-production
Image
It's the movie that fans just aren't sure about. Star Trek: Origins will be set in the Prime Timeline, and according to past reports, it will be set pre-Enterprise, long before Star Trek: The Original Series and Star Trek: Enterprise, and cover Earth's first contact with the Vulcans, which was already done in Star Trek: First Contact. That's just one of the issues fans see coming from a mile away. That said, the movie is going forward regardless.

According to Screenrant, pre-production has already started on the film. Most likely, filming will begin in early 2025. The script will be written Seth Grahame-Smith, and the movie will be directed by Toby Haynes with Simon Kinberg serving as producer.

Though we've been disappointed with films in the franchise before, this one in particular has a chance to throw a wrench into the Prime Timeline or make an egregious error much like Star Trek: Discovery...

What to Expect from Simon Kinberg’s Star Wars as Lucasfilm Signs Three Movie Deal With the Legendary Filmmaker
Image
While fans are still dealing with the travesty that was The Acolyte and are looking forward to Skeleton Crew, it was reported that a new Star Wars trilogy was in development with Simon Kinberg writing and producing. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have given an official statement but it is rumored to be a new story with new characters.

Lucasfilm gas announced many film projects in the past, including a trilogy by Rian Johnson. However, most of these projects have been in limbo. On top of that, giving Kinberg the responsibility to handle a trilogy even before testing the waters may be a controversial decision. However, Kinberg does not come without experience.

Star Trek Reboot Movie Is A Pre-Enterprise Origin Story, New Report Reveals Script & Filming Status
Image
A new Star Trek reboot movie, set to be based in a pre-Enterprise era, has received an update on its script and filming status. The Star Trek franchise is among the most popular and successful media franchises of all time, and so far has spanned 12 television series and 13 feature films, with the most recent being 2016's Star Trek Beyond. The television film Star Trek: Section 31, starring Michelle Yeoh, is set for a 2025 release, but eight years since a theatrical movie release, the latest reboot update has been highly anticipated.

Per reports in Puck, Paramount is set to develop the project, and details about the writer and director have been released. Simon Kinberg, who is attached to develop the Star Wars franchise with Disney, will first take charge of shepherding the Star Trek reboot, and will produce the untitled movie, with a script penned by Seth Grahame-Smith, and helmed by...

Simon Kinberg's Star Wars Trilogy Is Reportedly "Far, Far Away," Will Wait Until After Star Trek Commitments
Image
Simon Kinberg's Star Wars trilogy is reportedly "far, far away" in the future, and won't be worked on until after he's finished prior commitments with Star Trek. Yesterday, the Star Wars fandom learned that Simon Kinberg is working on a new Star Wars trilogy. Precious little is known about the project at this stage - reports vary over whether this will be Episodes 10-12 or something new - but Kinberg is an experienced writer and producer with a history of working with big franchises. Lucasfilm has canceled many Star Wars movies over the years, but his background means this has a chance.

According to Puck News, there won't be any movement on this project for quite some time. Kinberg has already signed up to reboot and shepherd the Star Trek franchise at Paramount, and a new Star Trek script has been completed by Seth Grahame-Smith with hopes of beginning...

Simon Kinberg’s Biggest Failures as Director: Lucasfilm Can’t Blame Fans For Complaining Against Plans For New Star Wars Trilogy
Image
Star Wars fandom is fuming right now after Lucasfilm has reportedly closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop another Star Wars trilogy. While the report suggested that Kinberg is onboarded for a continuation of The Skywalker Saga, insiders disputed the claim and shared that the new trilogy will begin a new saga. Either way, fans do not want the project to be associated with Kinberg.

Kinberg’s recent portfolio hasn’t been very colorful. He is often credited with singlehandedly ruining the X-Men franchise with his involvement in some of the later projects. Little do fans know that he was an executive producer on the latest film in the X-Men series (now Marvel), Deadpool & Wolverine.

Simon Kinberg to Write and Produce New ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy
Image
The Force is strong with Simon Kinberg.

Lucasfilm has hired the prolific writer and producer to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films. An early report insinuated are that this will actually be chapters 10 – 12 of the Skywalker Saga, continuing the path that most recently concluded with “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019. But there are others that insist this is a standalone series, something akin to the trilogies that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss and, separately, Rian Johnson, were working on for the company. It is being referred to as a “new saga.”

Kinberg is no stranger to “Star Wars.” Following the acquisition of Lucasfilm by Disney, Kinberg was part of a small brain trust that was working on new projects for the studio. He consulted on J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and co-created the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” with Dave Filoni.

‘Star Wars’ Trilogy Deal: Lucasfilm Taps Simon Kinberg To Write & Produce
Image
Exclusive: Lucasfilm has closed a deal with Simon Kinberg to develop a trilogy of Star Wars films. Kinberg will write the trio and produce them with Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy.

I heard this will comprise Episodes 10-12 of The Skywalker Saga that began with George Lucas’s 1977 first film, which, along with Steven Spielberg’s Jaws, reshaped the global blockbuster game. Insiders disputed my intel that Kinberg will continue that storyline, saying this instead will begin a new saga, and sit alongside percolating Star Wars projects with James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Taika Waititi and Donald Glover. As usual, Lucasfilm and Disney are not commenting.

Kinberg previously worked with Lucasfilm in co-creating with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck the Emmy-nominated animated series Star Wars Rebels that ran for four seasons from 2014-2018. He was also a consultant on Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the J.J. Abrams-directed film that...

10 Great Zombie Books To Read For Horror Fans
Image
A wide range of supernatural creatures crop up in horror books, and zombies make especially terrifying villains to read about. This is partly because they start out as humans, meaning just about anyone can turn during a zombie apocalypse. This truth forces readers to face their own mortality, as well as the harsh reality that even loved ones can become monsters.

With such grim messaging, it's no wonder zombie narratives are so popular within the horror genre. Some of the most terrifying horror books out there center on the undead. There are also plenty of great stories that put more unique twists on this common concept.

Pride And Prejudice And Zombies (2009) Written By Seth Grahame-Smith

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is a fun take on the zombie subgenre, especially for those passionate about classic literature and more specifically, Jane Austen. Seth Grahame-Smith's 2009 book stretches the original story of Pride and Prejudice,...
