Duster TV Review: J.J. Abrams and Lost star Josh Holloway reunite for a retro mystery roller coaster
Image
Plot: Set in the 1970s Southwest, Duster explores the life of a gutsy getaway driver for a growing crime syndicate that goes from dangerous to wildly, stupidly dangerous when a tenacious young agent comes into town hellbent on taking his crime family down.

Review: When Lost debuted in 2004, it introduced audiences to several fresh faces, including Josh Holloway. Playing the smart-ass anti-hero Sawyer, Holloway became a sex symbol and seemed to have a big career ahead. Despite a small role in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, the short-lived series Intelligence and Colony, and a supporting turn on Yellowstone, Josh Holloway has been criminally underutilized in Hollywood. Lost co-creator J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan set out to create Duster as a showcase for Holloway, which evolved into a rip-roaring retro thriller blending 1970s vibes and mystery series and an intense modern sensibility. Giving Josh Holloway a starring role tailor-made for his good looks and swagger,...

‘Lost’s Josh Holloway Is One Hell of a ‘Duster’ in Trailer for J.J. Abrams’ New Series
Image
The first trailer for Duster, the new series from J.J. Abrams, has been officially released. The series stars Josh Holloway, who is best known for his role as Sawyer in Lost, alongside Camille Guaty and Sydney Elisabeth. Guaty is famous for her role as Maricruz in Prison Break, and Elisabeth previously appeared on The Last O.G. The series was written and created for television by J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan. Abrams is also the creator of Lost, meaning there will be something of a reunion between him and leading star Josh Holloway. He’s also famous for his work writing and directing Star Wars: Episode 7 and 9, The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker. He passed off duties for The Last Jedi to Rian Johnson.

Duster is set in the dusty 1970s Southwest, and it follows a gutsy getaway driver for a budding crime family on dangerous driving jobs.

Is 'Happy Face' an Accurate True Crime Story on Paramount+?
Image
Paramount+'s Happy Faceis a new series based on the memoir Shattered Silence: The Untold Story of a Serial Killer's Daughter, written by Melissa G. George, where she recounts discovering her father, Keith Hunter Jesperson, was the real-life serial killer known as the Happy Face Killer. In her memoir and spinoff podcast, Happy Face, George explores the devastation she faced when she realized at 15 years old that her father was a murderer and how she came to terms with that reality.

Paramount+'s latest true-crime series doesn't focus too much on Jesperson committing the heinous acts or the events that led to his arrest in 1995 but starts with him already serving a life sentence. The series takes a different approach by honing in on how the victims' families are affected and doesn't lose focus like other true-crime series that subconsciously tap into one aspect of the overall story that viewers...

A Journey Through Heartbreak and Healing in ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’
Image
‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ (2005) is a romantic comedy-drama directed by Darren Grant and written by Tyler Perry. Based on Perry’s successful stage play of the same name, the film marks a historic moment in cinema as Perry’s first feature film. It also introduces audiences to the iconic, street-smart, and hilariously unforgettable character Madea, making her first appearance on the big screen. As the title suggests, ‘Diary of a Mad Black Woman’ serves as a raw, emotional chronicle of Helen McCarter's (Kimberly Elise) life, which takes a drastic turn when her 18-year marriage comes to a sudden and heartbreaking end. Helen and her wealthy husband, Charles McCarter (Steve Harris), have never seen eye to eye and are in an unhappy marriage. Publicly, they pretend to be the poster image of the perfect relationship, but privately Charles doesn’t love her, nor does he respect her. For years,...

All 14 Madea Movies & TV Shows In Order
Image
Madea quickly rose from a supporting character to a main character with her own franchise after her big screen debut in Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Madea's movies, like many of Tyler Perry's, center around real-life familial relationships and are known for their comedic elements. Despite being in the zeitgeist for over 20 years, the Madea franchise shows no signs of slowing down, with new installments continuing to be released, including the recent crossover film A Madea Homecoming.

Madea and her creator, Tyler Perry, became household names after her big screen debut in Diary of a Mad Black Woman, and the success led to the release of multiple movies featuring this titular character. After making the switch from stage to screen, Madea quickly grew from a supporting to main character with her own franchise. Her movies, as are many of Perry's, are centered around real-life familial relationships, but...

How A Touch Of Jealousy Led To Tyler Perry's Unexpected Star Trek Casting
Image
If you watched J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot of the "Star Trek" motion picture franchise — and considering that the film made almost $400 million, earned rave reviews, won an Academy Award for Best Makeup, and helped spawn a "Star Trek" renaissance that persists to this day through multiple acclaimed TV shows, there's a decent chance you did — then you probably weren't surprised to discover the film had surprises. Maybe you knew that original series star Leonard Nimoy came back, but maybe you didn't know that the planet Vulcan would be destroyed, or that Scotty accidentally killed Captain Archer's dog. Either way, the references, revelations, and cameos were practically inevitable, so much so that many "Trek" fans probably didn't raise an eyebrow at some of them.

But there was one moment in Abrams' first "Star Trek" movie that was genuinely unexpected, thanks to a cameo that had no relationship whatsoever to the franchise's past,...

Diary Of A Mad Black Woman Cast & Character Guide
Image
Diary of a Mad Black Woman is a landmark work in Tyler Perry’s filmography because it has a talented cast and some great characters. Based on the stage play of the same name by Perry and directed by Darren Grant, Diary of a Mad Black Woman deals with the misadventures of a recently-divorced woman who lives with her street-smart grandmother, Madea Simmons. Even though the film was met with negative reactions from critics, it went on to become a box-office success and paved the way for Perry’s successful career.

With Diary of a Mad Black Woman being followed by many more sequels focusing on Madea, the elderly woman was definitely the movie’s breakout character. However, Perry wasn't the only actor who stood out. Thanks to the excellent cast and Darren Grant's excellent direction, the movie also featured some iconic and memorable characters that have helped make characters...

The Purge Season 2 Episode 7 Review: Should I Stay or Should I Go
Ben becomes an unwitting pop culture icon thanks to his inability to control Purging.

facebook

tumblr

This The Purge review contains spoilers.

The Purge Season 2 Episode 7

It wouldn't be The Purge without actual Purge content, and while the second season opened with America's night to murder, it appears as though it will close with that, too. An effective, violent book-end for the series seems to be a good idea. That's what people watch for, right? Even though the second season has been solidly entertaining and suspenseful, even without the threat of violence, what the world is here for is Purge Night, either figuratively in the terms of TV viewers or literally in terms of Purge tourists rolling into New Orleans with a booked hotel room, bodyguards, and guns.

In a way, focusing on the back story to a Purge night was a bold choice. The first season leaned heavily on violence,...

David Hasselhoff Talks the Dangers of Fame in Killing Hasselhoff | Exclusive
David Hasselhoff
The iconic David Hasselhoff is such a huge star that he was responsible for the Baywatch remake's box office success overseas, despite the movie being a critical and commercial flop in the U.S. And the fact that he only has a very minor cameo. That's some certified star power right there. Everybody loves The Hoff, a theme which is explored from a bizarre new angle in the comedy Killing Hasselhoff, which is available now on DVD and Digital HD formats. Ryan Downey recently sat down to chat with David Hasselhoff, getting his thoughts on this outrageous comedy that puts a target on The Hoff's back. He also learned quite a bit more about the man and his persona.

As we saw in the Killing Hasselhoff trailer that debuted in July, the story centers around a strange but lucrative game played by a group of well-off and affluent friends. Once a year,...

Review: Killing Hasselhoff
Never being a fan of Knight Rider, I never really paid attention to David Hasselhoff, but gathered he was a good-looking actor with limited range and skills. Somewhere along the way, he continued getting work in projects both good and bad and built a fan base (I hear he’s really big in Germany). As a result, I missed when he crossed the cultural equator and became comfortable with the ridicule and self-parody. He’s accepted where he fits in pop culture and has gone on to embrace it as witnessed by his hysterical ‘70s-era music video found on the Blu-ray of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

And now, from Universal Home Entertainment, is Killing Hasselhoff, a direct-to-dvd release that finds him the target of an amateur assassin. This sloppy, slight comedy stars Ken Jeong as a nightclub owner in debt to loan shark Wasserstein (Will Sasso). Unable to...
