In the late '70s and '80s, audiences were obsessed with the TV show "Dallas," prime time western soap opera about the Ewings. The series became so popular that the network CBS began developing a spin-off centered around one of the Ewings we saw very little of in the original series.
The new project -- titled "Knots Landing" -- followed Ted Shackelford's Gary Ewing and his wife Valene (Joan Van Ark) after they moved to a suburban neighborhood in Los Angeles, California. We recently checked back in with the cast of the 1978 series "Dallas" to see where they ended up after all these years. But that stroll down memory lane got us thinking -- what happened to the cast of "Knots Landing" after the show was over?

Updated Jan. 6, 2025, at 3:45 p.m. Pt with Nikki Glaser ranked following the 2025 Golden Globes.
Original Story Published Jan. 2, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. Pt:
From 1944 to 1981, the Golden Globes opted not to have an emcee, with Robert Preston and Linda Gray being the first to tag-team the role in the 39th year. The ceremony returned to host-less the following year before employing a series cohosts – including the likes of William Shatner, Charlton Heston, Joan Collins, Faye Dunaway, and Tim Curry – from 1984 until 1995. After that, the Globe host gig was retired until 2010, when Gervais reinvigorated the format. For the past 15 years, several hosts have come and gone, for better and worse. Here’s our definitive ranking of just how golden those emcees performed, from worst to first:
8. Jo Koy (2024)
In 2024, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the scandal-ridden longtime governing body of the Globes, was out and the ceremony relocated from NBC to CBS.

Following Nikki Glaser's successful run hosting the 82nd Golden Globes, it appears the show's producers want to bring her back for more. While much of the attention for the Golden Globes was on winners, like Emilia Perez and The Brutalist, and notable snubs, like Anora and Challengers, many agreed that it was a better show than the previous year, when comedian Jo Koy bombed on stage following a series of poorly timed jokes and attempted to throw the writers under the bus. Comedian Nikki Glaser, best known for her work on the Comedy Central Roast, was a bright spot for many, and just what the ceremony needed after years of controversy. Turns out the producers of the Golden Globes realize they might have a winner on their hands and are looking to repeat this success.

With future seasons of Sylvester Stallone's popular crime drama Tulsa King confirmed, a show in which he plays the head of a mafia family, we can't help but be reminded of one of the actor's earlier portrayals of a gangster. By 1991, Sylvester Stallone had already starred in five Rocky movies and three Rambo flicks, cementing himself as a bona fide action star who seemed most at home on screen when he was hitting something — or rather, someone. This is part of the reason why it was so shocking when his next project was as the lead role in Oscar, a comedy from one of the great filmmakers of the genre, director John Landis.

Linda Gray wants to transform Southfork Ranch and produce a holiday movie for Dallas fans. The actress who played Sue Ellen Ewing is executive producing a holiday movie that will give her one more chance to revisit this special place. Most of all, she wants to also star in this movie along with one of her former castmates.
Here are all the details.

On Friday, Michael Fairman TV reported that “Dallas star Linda Gray signs on as executive producer of a proposed holiday-themed TV movie to shoot at Southfork.” The insider reports that Gray wants to return to Southfork to film a movie “with a major twist.” Describing this as a love letter” to the fans of the evening soap, this is a “lighthearted Christmas comedy.”
Co-starring with her would “potentially” be Patrick Duffy, who portrayed Bobby Ewing.

“Dallas” star Linda Gray has re-teamed with TV movie exec producer Larry Thompson to pitch a spooky film set at Southfork Ranch — the real-life location that served as the setting for the hit 1980s primetime soap. Gray and Thompson worked on last December’s hit Lifetime TV “Ladies of the 80s: A Divas Christmas.”
This time out, Gray and Thompson are shopping a project that finds Gray (and potentially her “Dallas” co-star Patrick Duffy) as poltergeists who haunt Southfork Ranch. They’re playing all-new characters — not their iconic “Dallas” roles — and because Southfork operates independently as a real-life venue for filming and tourism, the location is legit. But beyond the similar casting and perhaps some tongue-in-cheek references, there’s no connection to “Dallas.”

Dallas premiered in 1978 on CBS and completely changed how Americans watch television. The show gave Americans soap operas after dark episodic story-telling that continued weekly, not in self-contained episodes. Splashy cliffhangers kept audiences talking all summer, eagerly waiting for the new season to start. "Who Shot J.R.?" was the question of the summer in 1980. Spoiler alert: the sister of his wife, Sue Ellen (Linda Gray), who also happened to be J.R.'s (Larry Hagman) ex-mistress, Kristin Shepard (Mary Crosby), shot J.R. because he threatened to frame her for prostitution if she didn't leave town. But no Dallas cliffhanger managed to shock the world or change the show more than the Season 9 cliffhanger when Patrick Duffy's character, Bobby Ewing, returned from the dead in that infamous shower scene. Not only was the return of a dead character shocking, but the show's explanation of how it happened changed Dallas forever.

Kim Gwizdala and Nikka Markarian have driven four hours to be here today. They’ve dressed in Dallas-style outfits (cropped jackets and black suede cowboy boots) and are sporting Reagan-era ’dos (blown out and heavily feathered). And now, these best friends from Las Vegas, both 32, will spend several more hours in line at a hotel in Burbank, waiting to meet the 83-year-old actress who, decades ago — before Gwizdala and Markarian were even born — played J.R. Ewing’s long-suffering wife. The character who tried to buy a baby on the black market, spent the better part of a season locked away in a sanitarium and whose sister shot her husband.

Part of the fun of watching TV shows and getting invested in their episodic drama was seeing what major plot twists would come out of the blue. These twists were almost always unexpected and genuinely Earth-shattering for the characters and the world they lived in. However, not all major twists were good. Some were downright terrible.
Whether they were universally praised or reviled, these TV twists were immortalized in the public consciousness for better or worse. Even still, nobody will forget these plot twists any time soon. Some unforgettable plot twists pushed their series to new and better heights, while others tanked any goodwill they had overnight.

J.R. Ewing, a Texas oil baron, uses manipulation and blackmail to achieve his ambitions, both business and personal. He often comes into conflict with his brother Bobby, his arch-enemy Cliff Barnes and his long-suffering wife Sue Ellen.

Tis the season for the seasoned!
All the other Christmas movies can go ahead, pack it up, and go home.
Why? Because Ladies of the '80s: A Divas Christmas just has that magic.
No one can quite deliver like veteran actresses, and there wasn't a single moment of this film that wasn't delightful.
Lifetime can strike gold when it comes to reuniting stars of yesteryear, from series to films for productions like this, especially Christmas films.
A Christmas Spark was the perfect Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman reunion and was one of the network's best Christmas films in recent years.
They've also succeeded in bringing us little reunions every holiday season.
But reuniting and bringing together some of the most iconic women from soaps was no easy feat, and it made for a holiday film that left viewers squealing in glee whether they were soap fans or not.

Bi-continental production outfit Lspg (Luca Severi Production Group) has boarded “Eco Village,” a gonzo musical comedy led by Sidney Flanigan, the star of Sundance and Berlinale prize winner “Never Rarely Sometimes Always.” Nearing completion, the project is eyeing a festival launch early next year.
Marking the feature debut of playwright Phoebe Nir – who adapted her own Off-Broadway play – the off-kilter film follows a young drifter (played by actor-musician Flanigan) who makes her way first onto an anarchic and uninhibited artists colony, and then into the thrall of the utopia’s manipulative leader, played by Lindsay Burdge (of “Thirst Street” and “Her Smell”).
The filmmaker describes her 16mm project as an “[honest depiction of] the agonies and ecstasies of female desire, inspired by the memory of my tumble down the rabbit hole of first love (or was it lust?) in an idealistic hippie commune where jealousy and rage churned quietly beneath the surface.”

David Jacobs, who created the smash 1980s primetime soaps Dallas and Knots Landing and was a two-time Emmy nominee for Homefront, died August 20 of Alzheimer’s complications at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, his son said Tuesday. He was 84.
“He had Alzheimer’s for many years, and recently he had recurring infections that led to his death,” Aaron Jacobs told Deadline today.
Born on August 12, 1939, in Baltimore, Jacobs started out writing nonfiction books and magazine articles before pivoting to TV, penning episodes of series including Family, Chicago Story and The Blue Knight. He went on to create Dallas and its spinoff Knots Landing, with the former bowing in 1978 on CBS.
By its second season, Dallas was a certified smash, finishing the 1979-80 frame at No. 6 among all primetime series. Starring Larry Hagman, Linda Gray, Patrick Duffy and others, the ensemble drama about a Texas oil family became a...

London, June 29 (Ians) Disco legends, the Bee Gees would argue constantly in recording studios, but always made up over a cup of tea, a new book reveals.
According to the book ‘Bee Gees: Children of the World’, the ‘How Deep Is Your Love’ singers, Barry Gibb, 76, and his twin brothers Robin and Maurice, knew it was “time to get back to work” once the kettle had boiled, reports Mirror.co.uk.
Studio engineer John Merchant tells how the brothers were “world champions of sniping at each other” until they had made a cuppa.
The book’s author, pop historian Bob Stanley, wrote: “John reckoned the spats were part of the work process, ‘They knew what the other was capable of, and would not rest until their brother had delivered. ‘They would challenge each other consistently. That noise you hear is the Best Drama Actress Emmy category emptying out this year. Of last year’s six nominees, only one, “Yellowjackets” star Melanie Lynskey, is back in the running. Reigning champ Zendaya (“Euphoria”) and Reese Witherspoon (“The Morning Show”) are missing this cycle, while Laura Linney (“Ozark”) and “Killing Eve” duo Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh competed for the final time for their concluded shows. Assuming Lynskey is safely in — she’s in first in the odds — there are five spots up for grabs. Could she have some company this year from her co-stars Juliette Lewis and Tawny Cypress? If they join Lynskey in the lineup, it’ll mark the first time one show has yielded three nominees in the category in a single year.
Eleven shows have produced two nominees, including “Killing Eve” (Comer and Oh), “Six Feet Under” (Frances Conroy and Rachel Griffiths), “The Sopranos...

Even though she wasn’t billed as one of the show’s original six stars, Linda Gray was on the set of Dallas from the very first day of shooting. And she stayed there for 12 of the show’s 14 seasons — her 308 episodes rank her behind only Larry Hagman (all 357 episodes), Patrick Duffy (325), and Ken Kercheval (324) and make her the actress with the most appearances on the show. Looking back on the show after it was over, Gray spoke to us about what it was like to play such a memorable and juicy role, and how she helped make the character into one worth watching carefully. In 1971, Linda Gray, then a successful TV commercial actress (she eventually appeared in more than 400 TV ads), and her husband Ed Thrasher, then the art director for Warner Bros. Records, who designed album covers for seminal bands of the era — including The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Grateful Dead and The Doobie Brothers — drove out of L.A. with some visiting friends from Tennessee who were looking to buy a horse ranch.
The foursome ended up about 35 miles due north of Beverly Hills, in the secluded Canyon Country area of the Santa Clarita Valley, where Gray and Thrasher quickly became so smitten with the area’s rolling, oak- forested hills that they acquired an unusually triangular parcel of nearly 2.7 mostly flat acres for themselves.

Mike Nichols' 1967 coming-of-age comedy "The Graduate" has one of the most memorable posters. It shows the insecure college graduate Benjamin Braddock (Dustin Hoffman) standing in front of a woman's outstretched leg and arm as she pulls on a stocking. By all accounts, Jennie Logan (Lindsay Wagner) has it all – beauty, intelligence, a loving husband (Alan Feinstein) named Michael, and a good friend in whom she confides (Constance McCashin). While they do not have children, Jennie and Michael seem to be unperturbed by the lack of tiny bare feet on the hardwood floors – there is plenty of time for all of that. Or is there? Looks can be deceiving and it is not long before we discover that this seemingly “perfect couple” have their own demons to wrestle with.
Guided on a tour of the sprawling Victorian manse prior to their eventual purchase by a matter-of-fact realtor (Pat Corley) who off-handedly remarks that the unfinished attic is unworthy of even the most cursory glance, Jennie feels drawn to it, though she cannot fathom why. “The Crown” is on track to become the first show since “Cagney & Lacey” in 1985 to win its first Best Drama Series Emmy for its fourth season, but that is not the only Emmy history it could share with the procedural. If Emma Corrin takes Best Drama Actress as widely expected, “The Crown” will join “Cagney & Lacey” as the only shows to win the category for multiple actresses.
“Cagney & Lacey” dominated drama actress in the ’80s and holds the category record with six wins. Tyne Daly won four of them from 1983-85 and in 1988, while her screen partner Sharon Gless bested her in 1986 and ’87. “The Crown” notched its first victory here in 2018 when Claire Foy won for her second and final season on “The Crown” as Queen Elizabeth II.

For the first time, “The Crown” is fielding two drama actress contenders, in Emma Corrin and Olivia Colman, and both have gotten in everywhere so far. If they do it at the Emmys as expected, they’ll be one of the few duos from the same show to accomplish it in the category this century.
At the turn of the century, we got four straight years of co-star nominees in Best Drama Actress. “The Sopranos'” Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco were nominated from 1999-2001, with Falco prevailing in 1999 and 2001 (Sela Ward won for “Once and Again” in 2000). “The Crown” benefited from vote-splitting at the Golden Globe Awards last year but could suffer from the same phenomenon now. Emma Corrin is the overwhelming frontrunner to win Best TV Drama Actress for her portrayal of Princess Diana. Her co-star Olivia Colman is also nominated, having won this category for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II last year over “The Morning Show” co-leads Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. At the Screen Actors Guild Awards last year, however, Colman was nominated in a combined lead-and-supporting race opposite her co-star Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret; they lost to Aniston, who was nominated alone there, without Witherspoon.

Dallas, with its portrayals of Western wealth, success and power; may have played a role in the collapse of the Soviet Union, former leader Mikhail Gorbachev believes.

Last year, Christina Applegate earned a surprise Best Comedy Actress Emmy nomination for her then-new show “Dead to Me,” while her leading lady co-star Linda Cardellini was left out in a cold. But the pair may have double to celebrate this year as Cardellini has just entered the top six in sixth place in our odds, setting the stage for them to be just the 13th pair of co-stars to be nominated in the category and just the third in 31 years.
Since the Emmys established genre-specific categories in 1966, these are the only times co-stars have been nominated for Best Comedy Actress in the same year:

It was a good morning for “The Morning Show” on Monday as both Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon received Golden Globe nominations for their performances in the Apple TV+ drama. As the co-leads of the series, they were both nominated in Best Drama Actress, becoming the first duo this decade to take up two slots in one year in this category. The last co-stars to do so were Lorraine Bracco and Edie Falco for “The Sopranos,” who were nominated together three years in a row from 1999-2001. “The Morning Show” becomes the ninth series in history to accomplish this at the Golden Globes. The question now becomes whether Aniston and Witherspoon will cancel each other out, leading to one of their competitors winning.

“Killing Eve” made a killing with Tuesday’s Primetime Emmy Awards nominations with nine total. Two of those are for Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer in Best Drama Actress, marking the first time since 2002 that a show produced double nominations in the category.
Oh, who last year became the first nominee of Asian descent in the category, and Comer are up against Emilia Clarke (“Game of Thrones”), Viola Davis (“How to Get Away with Murder”), Laura Linney (“Ozark”) and Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”).
The last duo to make the cut were Frances Conroy and Rachel Griffiths from “Six Feet Under.” They lost to Allison Janney, who upgraded to lead that year after back-to-back wins in supporting for “The West Wing.” For the three years before that, “The Sopranos” co-stars Edie Falco and Lorraine Bracco competed against each other in lead, with the former winning twice in 1999 and 2001.
