The MCU officially introduced Franklin Richards in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but he is not the most powerful being in the universe. Despite being the object of desire for not one but two Fantastic Four villains, Franklin Richards’ power is trumped by Nate Grey a.k.a. X-Man, in the Marvel universe. Nate is the son of Jean Grey and is a mutant.
Grey is an alternative version of Cable, the popular anti-hero in the X-Men universe. However, Nate is genetically modified by Mr. Sinister and has several powers that make him an Omega-level mutant. As the X-Men venture into the MCU with last year’s Deadpool and Wolverine, and the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, there is a window for Nate Grey to come in.
However, there are low chances of him making the cut as the MCU begins its journey with the mutants. Among other...

When it comes to the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime franchise, fans don't have a lot to complain about. Ever since the hit series Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsterswas released 25 years ago, the franchise has expanded almost without interruption up until this year. For the first time in a long time, fans are dealing with a long hiatus and no announcements about the future of the series. For Hulu subscribers, however, the wait for a new spin-off will be a lot easier. Starting on August 25, Season 1 of Yu-Gi-Oh! Go Rush!! will debut on the platform.
Fans of the franchise know by now that Yu-Gi-Oh! isn't afraid to take a wild concept and run with it. In the anime series that introduced the franchise to the world, protagonist Yugi Mutou was able to embody the spirit of a pharaoh who was trapped inside a puzzle-like relic. Then, in Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’S the duelists battled on motorcycles. So...

One of the most devastating yet prominent topics in media, war has been the ruinous reality of humankind throughout history — which explains why art reflects on war so often. While anime might not be the first medium that comes to mind when thinking of profound tales of military conflict, the war anime niche is surprisingly prolific and filled with discerning explorations of the subject.
From unnervingly realistic portrayals of historical conflicts to fictionalized, fantastical warfare that allegorically examines grounded themes, anime series about war stand up to the challenge of covering this challenging topic with all the nuance it requires. Some of the medium's most compelling and thought-provoking works are dedicated to depicting how war and its horrors affect people, resulting in poignant, sincere narratives that use the subject for more than its action appeal.

The 1990s was a landmark decade for the anime medium, as it saw anime gain a foothold among viewers around the world. Many of the biggest works from this era are still revered to this day, be it among those who grew up watching them or newer anime fans who've gone back to enjoying the classics. While everyone knows about Dragon Ball Z and Sailor Moon, there were several other great anime released in the '90s that didn't get nearly as much attention.
The 1990s had many hits that developed the anime medium in pivotal ways, continuing the artistic energy of the 1980s while also laying the groundwork for anime becoming more internationally mainstream. These included overlooked mecha classics and fantasy works that were right out of a Dungeons & Dragons campaign. While they might not have been as memorable as other anime from that time, these classics can still be revisited today.

Unfortunately, not every mutant or member of the X-Men develops amazing powers. While every mutation comes with drawbacks, some mutants are just dealt a worse hand than others. Vastly altered appearances, incomplete biologies, or powers of mass destruction, these abilities can segregate and isolate mutants even within their own communities. Even worse off are the mutants whose powers destroy themselves.
Over the thousands of generations that mutants have existed, long before Apocalypse was ever born, mutant powers have mixed and combined, creating wild combinations in the modern day. Some mutations have shifted into uncontrollable conduits for cataclysmic power. Others display incomplete evolutions or incompatible biology, in which case a mutant’s body isn’t able to handle the strain of their mutation. Then there are some whose mutations are “unfavorably” topical, isolating the mutant from general society. The X-Men and Marvel’s mutants have been around for a long time,...

This issue was never not going to make the list. I choose it because it centres around Maverick but of course, it is a Wolverine story first and foremost. When I got into collecting Wolverine comics one of the things I wanted to learn about first was the history of Team X. In that regard this issue delivers as it alternates between the past and present. In te present Maverick has contracted the Legacy Virus and is attempting to trick Wolverine into killing him. The flashbacks reveal how Maverick would go to any lengths to complete a mission after Sabretooth has sabotaged their exit route. There are elements in this story that are touched upon in novels and cartoons that I had read before this issue, so to see it in comics was very cool.

Wolverine is one of Marvels top characters, but according to iconic G.I. Joe writer Larry Hama, sales on his solo book were once so low that it was in danger of being canceled. The Joe scribe was then given the task of taking over the title, turning sales around until it was one of Marvels top-selling titles.
Appearing at the Wolverine: 50-Year Anniversary panel at Dragon Con 2024, Larry Hama explained how he got the job writing Wolverine. I was having trouble getting writing work at Marvel at the time, Hama said, I had the number one book in G.I. Joebut they said. G.I. Joes a fluke.

While many readers consider the Justice League the flagship superhero team of DC Comics, that spot was once held by the Justice Society of America. As the first superhero team in comic book history, the Jsa has played host to some of the greatest heroes in the company's roster, with Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman all having served. Having been around for over eight decades, the team have one of the richest collections of adventures in comics.
The Justice Society may not have the attention or fame in the mainstream as the Justice League, but their place in the DC Universe is beyond question. The team represents the value the company has historically placed on legacy and history, something accentuated by the older heroes' mentorship of younger characters. Having made their presence known in some recent events, the team's adventures are still some of the best in comics, and offer readers a blend of fantasy,...

Wolverines bone claws caused a storm of controversy among fans when he lost his Adamantium in the nineties, but according to writer Larry Hama, it was nothing compared to what happened behind the scenes at Marvel. Logans Adamantium was ripped from his body during the Fatal Attractions event in 1993, revealing his claws were actually made of bone. Immediately controversial among fans, Wolverine went without his Adamantium skeleton for the next six years.

The following contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine, now playing in theaters.
Thanks to the Merc with a Mouth's ability to break the fourth wall, Deadpool & Wolverine is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's most meta film so far. The movie follows Deadpool and Wolverine on an adventure in the Void to save Earth-10005 while a rogue Tva agent prunes other alternate realities. Deadpool & Wolverine's constant metatextuality made way for dozens of Marvel Easter eggs, some of which very few fans noticed.
Some of these Easter eggs are references to the comics while others are about other films or even about real life -- specifically about Ryan Reynold's career. Since Easter eggs are key ingredients of the MCU films, viewers are often looking for them, but these references in Deadpool & Wolverine are a bit obscure, so not everyone identified them quickly.

Wolverine and Sabretooth have a complex rivalry rooted in their shared history before the events of X-Men. Logan and Victor's live-action appearances initially downplayed their relationship, but later films suggested they may be brothers. The two mutants work best as siblings, creating deeper emotional dynamics that make their rivalry far more interesting.
The world of the X-Men has shown that its greatest strength comes from the characters that make up the team and their enemies. The feud between Storm and Callisto or the love triangle between Wolverine, Cyclops, and Jean Grey has become the stuff of legend with fans. However, the biggest point of interest, no matter the era, has been the feud and relationship between Wolverine and Sabretooth. This rivalry has also become a draw among movie fans, as the duo had a brief but exciting feud in live-action. That said, their relationship in the movies muddled the definition...

Spoilers for "Deadpool & Wolverine" ahead.
"Deadpool & Wolverine" has advertised itself as a multiverse adventure. It is a movie that bridges the 20th Century Fox "X-Men" movie franchise with the Marvel Cinematic Universe -- not that you need to be a Marvel super-fan to enjoy "Deadpool & Wolverine." Since there's only so many different worlds one can visit in two hours, the film has a montage of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) jumping from universe to universe and meeting many different Wolverines.
One of the Wolverines he finds is in dire straits, crucified on a Saint Andrew's cross in an apocalyptic landscape. X-fans might recognize the image from the cover of "Uncanny X-Men" #251 ("Fever Dream"), drawn by Marc Silvestri and Dan Green.

Shazam's powers are magic, allowing him to do the impossible, even compared to Superman. In Jla #112, Shazam is turned inside out by a cosmic weapon even Superman can't beat. However, Shazam is instantly healed and manages to survive. Superman and Shazam can both take a lot of punishment, but once Superman is injured, he requires medical care - the same experience would have killed him outright.
When it comes to hero vs hero speculation, Shazam vs Superman is a debate that will never die. Starting off with two different publishers (Shazam was a Fawcett Comics character before being purchased by DC), the two Justice League icons are the definition of superhero aesthetic, with bright costumes, billowing capes, and the ability to shrug off a tank shell like it's nothing. Storm, mistress of the elements ... no more? In episode 2 of "X-Men '97" — "Mutant Liberation Begins" — Storm/Ororo Monroe (still voiced by Alison Sealy-Smith) took a shot from a gun fired by the villainous X-Cutioner, an assassin affiliated with the anti-mutant hate group the Friends of Humanity. I cannot feel it, nor the moisture, nor the air," she despairs before the tears finally swell up. It's a sign of Magneto's growth of character that he stays his hand of X-Cution after Storm's fate.
According to Beast, the gun fired the same radiation used by the collars that inhibit mutant powers. However, the blast is concentrated to deliver its dosage on a cellular level, so the depower is permanent. In Marvel's long history of shocking or controversial stories, Avengers #200 stands apart as one of the publisher's most heinous, disturbing, and unthinkable today. In the story, Carol Danvers delivers a child after a mystery pregnancy, with the child growing to adulthood and victimizing her in the same issue. Marvel Editor and co-writer Jim Shooter now admits his mistake in approving the storyline decades later, recognizing it as one that should never have been published.
Contains discussion of sexual assault.
Marvel Comics' most controversial moment in Avengers #200 was so bad, the person responsible for approving the storyline later apologized and called it "heinous." When it comes to Marvel's worst comic book arcs, none are more awful and puzzling than the time Ms. Marvel gave birth to the man who would assault her in the very same issue.

Forget Batman, forget the X-Men. The greatest rogues gallery in comics history belongs to Spider-Man. So great are his baddies that Sony continues to spend millions of dollars to launch a cinematic universe around them. And while Green Goblin, Doctor Octopus, and Venom continue to get most of the attention, even B-level guys like the Spot have been elevated to big bads.
But let’s be honest, even Spider-Man comics have a few duds when it comes to bad guys. Even if we took out the horrendous mess that was the Clone Saga (and we aren’t going to take it out), Spider-Man would still have too many losers and redundant villains to count. So, here are the absolute worst of the worst in Spider-Man’s villain roster, characters so dull that they aren’t good for much besides getting killed in a crossover event.

Spider-Man has yet to meaningfully interact with a host of other heroes in the MCU sandbox, despite his team-ups with Iron Man and Doctor Strange. Potential team-up companions for Spider-Man include Daredevil, Kate Bishop, Ironheart, Moon Knight, America Chavez, Hank Pym, Ms. Marvel, Hulk, Shuri, and Reed Richards. Spider-Man's team-ups could bring unique dynamics, shared experiences, and powerful collaborations, expanding the storytelling possibilities and impact within the MCU.
Despite prolific team-ups within the comics, this sense of eternal collaboration has yet to translate to the MCU’s Spider-Man. Though he has so far engaged in significant team-ups with the likes of Iron Man and Doctor Strange, there are still a host of heroes that Spider-Man has yet to meaningfully interact with within the MCU sandbox.
Spider-Man is known for his energy, scientific acumen, and youthful innocence within the MCU, and numerous other heroes would make for excellent and logical team-up companions.

Marc Silvestri's covers for Uncanny X-Men are iconic, and provide a detailed insight into his stellar contributions to the series in the late 1980s. Silvestri, along with inker Dan Green, expertly used color and perspective as core elements of their incredible run of Uncanny X-Men covers for Chris Claremont's run on the series. Silvestri's covers for the "Inferno" crossover event in particular showcase his ability to create visually stunning group shots, which do a great deal of work to evoke the atmosphere of the story, even before the reader opens the comic.

Wolverine's Patch persona showcases the character's versatility and ability to fit into different tones and genres, making it one of Logan's most memorable alternate identities. Cosplayer Batsturd perfectly captures the look of Patch, with the eyepatch, slicked hair, and white suit. Logan's Patch disguise is a humorous take on superhero identity, and Batsturd offers an excellent tribute to this enduring character design.
Wolverine has had many names over his long life: James, Logan, Weapon X – but his alias Patch has more versatility than most, and now is immortalized in a terrific cosplay. Patch might be an absurd identity for Wolverine on the face of it, but it’s a demonstration of how well Logan fits in different books, with different tones and genres, and above all else it is a great look, as this cosplay exemplifies.

The Mutant Saga is still many years away but with the upcoming release of Deadpool 3 and the rumored return of multiple Fox X-Men characters in the fast-approaching Avengers: Secret Wars, excitement for the X-men's MCU arrival is at an all-time high. Since their comic book debut in 1963, the X-Men have led to some of the greatest comic book stories ever being created, many of which have already been adapted, such as Days of Future Past, Apocalypse, and Logan.
Marvel has begun to tease fans with X-Men-related content in recent MCU projects, such as confirming Namor and Ms. Marvel as the McU's first mutants, and The Marvel's shocking post-credit scene reveal. In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Charles Xavier's presence suggests that the X-Men are already out there, furthering excitement for their debut. One way fans could see the X-Men finally arrive could be through an adaptation...

Nimrod poses a grave threat to mutantkind, as it has the ability to adapt and eliminate mutants in any timeline where it exists. The X-Men's previous strategy of avoiding Nimrod's creation failed, and now they must face it head-on in an ultimate showdown. Defeating Nimrod will require an unexpected or never-before-seen tactic, as it is an adaptable and unbeatable villain. The X-Men's future depends on defeating Nimrod.
The X-Men spend most of their lives facing threats determined to wipe mutantkind out of existence, but none of their enemies has been as successful as the ever-evolving Nimrod, however. Being at the helm of Orchis has granted the Sentinel further reach than ever before. Now, after having their Krakoan society destroyed and being left (once again) to scramble for survival, it's time for the X-Men to face Nimrod and the bleak future it promises.

This past week we lost one of the industry’s best. As Dan Green pulls his chair up to the great drawing board in the sky I look back on an amazing career. For me, Dan Green was probably the first inker I knew the name of. This comes from hunting down my back issues of Wolverine. Marc Silvestri and Adam Kubert were two of my favourites to track down issues of and Green was always the third name in the credits. Perhaps this is doing inkers a discredit. They are like drummers in rock bands in that regard. Essential to creativity but one step behind the limelight. If someone like Joe Sinnott was like the old-school drumming of Ringo Starr, then Green is more akin to the style of John Bonham. In my opinion, he was the first rock star inker.
The journey began for Dan Green in Detroit.

Wolverine faces his toughest challenge yet when he goes head-to-head with a Predator during his mysterious past on Team X and Weapon X. The crossover series delves deep into Wolverine's history, exploring his government days and the difficulties he faced during that time. Adding a Predator to Logan's past makes sense, as it adds to the mythology of Team X and Weapon X and fits with the wild and unpredictable nature of his past experiences.
Wolverine’s newest crossover adventure promises to challenge Logan like never before, putting him up against a Predator in a fight taking place during Wolverine’s murkiest era. By facing down the Yautja during his time on Team X and Weapon X, Logan will have to contend with not just a deadly alien foe, but his own lost memories.

Few in the DC Universe inspire as much terror as the Joker — so much so that he is even the boogeyman to other villains. In 1995’s Underworld Unleashed, the demon Neron recruits the Clown Prince of Crime to his inner council of villains. When Neron convenes his inner council, the Joker's reception speaks volumes as to how his "peers" view him.
Underworld Unleashed is a villain-centric crossover event; published in 1995, it was an attempt by DC to revitalize underrated and underutilized villains while also celebrating the cream of the crop — which includes the Joker. One of Batman’s greatest foes, the Joker is as every bit an icon as the Caped Crusader, and he commands fear and terror wherever he goes. The Joker not only scares Batman and the Justice League, but, as revealed in Underworld Unleashed, he terrifies other villains, too. The DC Universe is loaded with heinous characters,...

With the Fall of X looming, the writer of the new X-Men book Dark X-Men has teased how the title will handle its horror tone and has also given new insight into its leader, Madelyne Pryor. With the mutants of Krakoa heading into their most challenging period yet, a team like the Dark X-Men might be exactly what’s needed to save them.
In a new interview with Cbr, Dark X-Men writer Steve Foxe explains exactly how the new series will balance horror with more classic Marvel action. "I'm a fan of some pretty relentless, pitch-black horror, but this is ultimately a Marvel comic, and we don't want to leave readers too traumatized," Foxe says. "We want to shock and spine-tingle but also have those cathartic laughs and 'Did they really go there?' moments peppered throughout." The comparison made to the Evil Dead in Dark X-Men’s announcement is...

No one can stop the Juggernaut, or so they say, but when one villain did the nigh-impossible and defeated Cain Marko, it revealed that Juggernaut might actually be weak to the powers of the X-Men’s Banshee. With the shared history between Juggernaut and Marvel’s most prominent Irish Mutant, this match-up also makes a lot of sense.
The Juggernaut is known for being an unstoppable force of destruction. Powered by the magical Crimson Gem of Cyttorak, Cain is essentially immune to physical damage and has seemingly endless super-strength and stamina. Cain's most famous weakness is psychic attacks, but he is protected from them thanks to a custom-built helmet and skullcap that he uses to fend off the powers of his estranged half-brother, Charles Xavier. The problem with an unstoppable character, however, is that sooner or later the story will have to come up with a way of defeating him.

Are we going to have to start calling this series Beast Goes Full Evil? At this point I think Benjamin Percy is the only writer I would trust to have a comic called Wolverine completely dominated by Beast and his continuing journey to the dark side. It has been going on for three issues now and it works. Beast is the center of attention in this book right now and Percy is killing it! Not to completely scare fans off, Wolverine does make a fleeting appearance in this issue in true Wolverine fashion. Barging in on the Quiet Council and telling them exactly what is what and how he is going to put things right. Though out reading this issue I did keep asking myself how and if this ties into ‘Fall of X’ or...

Even in the Age of Apocalypse timeline where it is pretty clear who the main villain is, there is still no doubt that humans are and will always be the X-Men’s ultimate enemy–and the most detrimental weapon within humanity’s arsenal proves it.
The Age of Apocalypse is an alternate reality within the Marvel multiverse that was created upon the death of Charles Xavier. In the prime timeline of Earth-616, Xavier’s son, Legion, traveled back in time to kill Magneto, but he accidentally killed his father instead, thus creating a brand-new timeline. Since the world lost one of the most powerful and influential mutants in history, the planet was totally vulnerable to the influence of Apocalypse who launched a full-blown strike against humanity, and there was no one around to stop him. Most mutants joined Apocalypse as his mission was to build a world where mutants could...

Even though Wolverine is well known for being more than proficient when it comes to killing people, there was one instance where Wolverine may have taken things a bit too far by making a classic X-Men hero suffer a fate worse than death.
James “Logan” Howlett aka Wolverine is a mutant with the powers of heightened animalistic senses, a healing factor, and claws that protrude from his knuckles. Essentially, Wolverine was born to be the perfect weapon–which is exactly what one particular organization thought, one that is known as Weapon X. Weapon X is a division of the Weapon Plus Program that was designed to hire (or capture) mutants and empower them to kill assigned targets on command before erasing/replacing their memories in an effort to keep them under the program’s control forever. Even the most casual of X-Men fans is at least partly aware of the pain and suffering Wolverine endured while he was captured by Weapon X, but what they may not know is that the horrors Wolverine suffered were nothing compared to that of Jean Grey during her ‘Weapon X’ experience.

James “Logan” Howlett aka Wolverine was one of these mutants alongside the likes of Sabretooth and Silver Fox, but because of his specific mutation, he was forced to undergo much worse treatment than the rest of Team X. While the X-Men aren’t known for battling giant monsters that should only exist in fantasy novels, there are certainly times when something of that sort is shown within the pages of the superheroes’ comic book series–and this particular issue is no exception, as it reveals a terrifying creature that is a literal Tolkien nightmare.
J.R.R. Tolkien is the creative genius behind the Lord of the Rings novels (which includes The Hobbit). Within the world Tolkien crafted with the flick of his pen, there are a plethora of fantastical creatures and landscapes–though not all of them pleasant. There are portions of Middle Earth that are absolutely horrific, including Shelob’s lair, certain areas of Mirkwood Forest, and–of course–Mordor.
