To celebrate its 15th anniversary, as well as the Halloween season, Blumhouse and AMC Theaters are re-releasing Paranormal Activity as part of AMCs Blumfest. January Jones is joining the debate over self-tape audition practices in Hollywood.

The “Mad Men” alum took to her Instagram Stories to call out fees to audition and the issue of sending in self-tapes as opposed to in-person readings. “Note to Hollywood: It’s time for casting directors to come back into the office like everyone else. To audition actors in person,” Jones wrote on Instagram (via Variety). “And if anyone asks for a Fee to audition please know that this is criminal and Pathetic.”

Pent-up frustration by actors over the way audition process has evolved — or devolved — during the pandemic erupted this week when actors Ever Carradine, Merrin Dungey and Sprague Grayden slammed an ad by Betty Mae Casting offering paid self-taping services for non-Betty Mae projects. Their comments launched a heated discussion about the wide use of self-tapes, which have replaced the vast majority of in-person auditions over the last three years.

Because the conversation was triggered by the ad from Betty Mae, the company of well known casting director Mary Vernieu, with SAG-AFTRA calling casting offices charging for audition tapes “an optical and ethical disaster,” the society of Hollywood casting directors have found themselves in the eye of the storm.

Actors are already faced with undue financial pressures in their pursuit of work. Updated: Several actresses like Ever Carradine (The Handmaid’s Tale), Merrin Dungey (Big Little Lies) and Sprague Grayden (Hightown) turned to Twitter this week to express frustration over the pandemic-era trend of (costly) tape auditions and whether in-person tryouts are truly a thing of the past.

Carradine began her social media rant by noting how an ad popped up on her Instagram account for a “respected casting director’s office offering self tape opportunities for a fee. If we can go to casting and tape, can’t we just go to casting and actually read without paying $50 an audition?”

When someone asked if actors now have to pay for an audition, Carradine replied, “No, but you have to pay a facility to tape and read with you. In the before covid times, this was a last resort and most auditions happened in person in the room with casting, producers and the director.

Grey will make her Empire debut on tonight’s episode as as Melody Barnes, who is described as “a badass singer/songwriter/producer with a quick mouth covered by a chosen shyness.”

Grey recently reprised her role as Elizah in the Transparent finale movie. Fred Savage makes his talk-show host debut Sunday on Fox’s “What Just Happened??! With Fred Savage” — a very real aftershow based on a very not real sci-fi series called “The Flare.” Well, not real for now, at least, as the “Wonder Years” alum is thinking maybe his show could help its fake lead-in get the green light.

“I’ll be honest, we’re hoping that it’s not so fake,” Savage — who hosts, co-created and executive produces “What Just Happened??!” — told TheWrap. “I mean, ‘The Flare’ does exist — just a scene at a time. The books are obviously completely made up, but the show itself, like, we have a real cast, a real director, and I think it’s a good show.”

“The Flare” is based on fictional author Tj Whitford’s sci-fi book series, “The Moon is the Sun at Night,” which has been a favorite of Savage’s since childhood.

Rob Lowe will be the first guest on Fox’s upcoming parody after-show “What Just Happened??! with Fred Savage,” which will reunite the stars of the previously-canceled “The Grinder.”

Framed to be a talk show to discuss the events after Fox’s made-up sci-fi drama, “The Flare,” “What Just Happened??! with Fred Savage” will invite special guests like Lowe to analyze what took place on the fictional show’s latest episode (akin to AMC’s “Talking Dead and “Talking Saul”), and will include as set visits to “The Flare,” interviews with the “cast,” and fan discussions.

Trafalgar Releasing has reported more than $3.5 million in box office revenue in one day for the Coldplay documentary “A Head Full of Dreams” from director Mat Whitecross.

Trafalgar said the film sold more than 300,000 tickets in over 70 countries worldwide and across 2,650 movie theaters on Nov. 14. It was the no. 1 title in the Netherlands, no. 2 in the UK, Australia and Italy and no. 5 in the Us.

The release was in collaboration with Coldplay’s management team at Warner Music, Parlophone and Dave Holmes Management. The film showcases live performances and backstage footage from the global stadium tour A Head Full of Dreams, alongside archive material captured over 20 years.

Last night, Fox released the new promo/spoiler clip (below) for their upcoming "The Following" finale episode 15 of season 2, and it appears that things will get majorly intense and drama-filled as Claire's life is definitely hanging in the balance of Ryan and Joe Carroll's next move, and more! Last week’s episode of The Following, “The Reaping”, was perhaps the best hour of the show’s scattered second season. Not only was it consistently entertaining, dark, and effective, it featured the long awaited reunion of Ryan (Kevin Bacon) and Joe (James Purefoy). Claire (Natalie Zea) revealed her survival to Joe and in perhaps the finest twist yet, Mike (Shawn Ashmore), this season’s breakout star, killed Lily Grey (Connie Nielsen) in cold blood as Ryan and Max watched in horror. It was a stunning and exceptionally well constructed moment.

Claire’s reveal to Joe, in a cleverly crafted coded message delivered by Carrie (Sprague Grayden), was a high point for Claire’s return, which has been a bit of a mixed bag for the series.

"The Following" continues to confound us. It seems like each season starts out promisingly, goes off the rails in the middle, and then comes back around at the end. And here we are near the end of Season 2 with Episode 2.13, "The Reaping," on its way. Will it follow the same pattern?

Again we ask: Why the hell does this show need 15 episodes per season? Stick with 12, or 13 at the most, and maybe things will improve. Powers-that-be, are you listening?
