Soap Opera Critics Review Hits and Misses: Top 10 Moments of the Week of December 23-27
Image
Soap Hub looks at the Hits and Misses for the week of December 23-27 in the worlds of Days of Our Lives, General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless.

Top 10 Hits and Misses

#10 Hit: Zende is a valuable component of this Logan versus Forrester war (B&b). Zende (Delon de Metz) is suddenly someone both sides are counting on. We love that for him. Honestly, his loyalty should be with the Forresters. Hopefully, in the future, they will treat him better than they have thus far. He’s been a bit of an afterthought. It’s also great that once Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) cry foul about Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) true intentions for taking the top spot at Forrester Creations 2.0, Zende can be proof positive that giving Fc back to Ridge and Steffy was what Brooke wanted from the get-go.

How Brady and John Saved Marlena’s Christmas on the December 26 Days of Our Lives
Image
Salem celebrated Christmas on the Thursday, December 26 episode of Days of Our Lives. Abe played Santa after Roman’s allergy attack prevented him from doing so. Jules and Carver had a great time opening presents with their parents, Eli and Lani, and their grandparents, Abe and Paulina. Thanks to Lani, Kristen allowed Brady to spend time with his daughter, Rachel. Meanwhile, this particular holiday seemed like a lonely one for Marlena. But a couple of people made sure to let her know she wasn’t alone.

Brady’s Touching Gift

John (the late Drake Hogestyn) is currently off on a case for the Isa, so he won’t be home for Christmas. And it looked like Marlena (Deidre Hall) really felt his absence. How could she not? Thankfully, Brady (Eric Martsolf) helped make her holiday a little warmer, brighter, and more joyous.

First, he told her she didn’t have...

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers: Alison Had A Torrid Teenage Crush On Her Sometimes TV Stepfather

Drake Hogestyn, who portrayed Sami’s stepfather John Black when married to Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall), sadly passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 28, just one day before his 71st birthday.

Alison Sweeney Reveals She Had ‘Such a Crush’ on ‘Days’ Costar Drake Hogestyn
Image
Alison Sweeney was just a teenager when she joined Days of Our Lives as Sami Brady in 1993. A fan of the show prior to getting cast, Sweeney suddenly found herself sharing scenes with the very actors she once watched. One of those was the late Drake Hogestyn, who played Sami’s stepfather, John Black, and passed away from pancreatic cancer on September 28, a day shy of his 71st birthday. Though John and Sami’s relationship was mostly fractious, Hogestyn and Sweeney’s couldn’t have been more opposite. “Drake is a huge part of my experience on Days,” Sweeney shares. “I remember meeting him my first day on set. I had such a crush on him! I was watching when John and Izzy [Staci Greason] were a thing. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t tell him that for years. But when I did, he was very gentlemanly about it.

Fans Honor Drake Hogestyn’s Legacy As John Black On Days Of Our Lives
Image
Salem and Days of Our Lives will never be the same without its fallen hero, John Black. The soap opera community is still reeling from the death of his portrayer, Drake Hogestyn, and many fans recalled some of his best scenes on the show. The actor was also well-known for being a great guy, and several viewers also shared stories about how he touched their lives.

Memories Ran Deep

Social media, particularly X, formerly Twitter, was on fire with memories of Hogestyn. Remembering his complicated past as John, one fan lovingly wrote, “When I started watching Days, he was Roman. Then he was (whispering intensely) John Black. I can’t imagine #Days without Drake Hogestyn. And that’s a fact. My condolences to his family and cast and everyone who loved and respected him. Rip...

Soap Stars Missy Reeves & More Mourn Drake Hogestyn’s Death
Image
Days Of Our Lives star Drake Hogestyn passed away at the age of 70 over the weekend. His family shared the heartbreaking news on social media. His former co-stars and other soap stars shared their condolences and memories.

Drake Hogestyn’s Cause of Death

Drake Hogestyn has been a staple of the NBC/Peacock soap opera Days Of Our Lives for nearly 40 years. He joined the show in 1986 as a recast Roman Brady after Wayne Northrup left the role. However, the ‘real’ Roman later came back and Drake’s character became known as John Black with several identities over the years.

But what remained constant was his love affair with Dr. Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall.) They were one of the most popular supercouples from the 1980s until even today. The soap community was shocked on Saturday, September 28, when the Hogestyn family revealed that Drake Hogestyn had passed...

Dool Spoilers – All The Reasons that Make Connie Vinski So Frightening
Days of Our Lives (1965)
Days Of Our Lives (Dool) spoilers say it’s always the quiet, sweet, unassuming ones that you have to watch out for and no statement could be more true than when applied to Connie Vinski (Julie Dove) the new assistant that Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) has hired.

Connie is that one smiling, helpful girl that will contribute to the bake sale with strychnine laced brownies and then offer you a cup of hemlock to wash it down with.

Okay, maybe she’s not that creative, after all she did just stab Li Shin (Remington Hoffman), but her reasoning is unknown and the whole affair is currently shrouded in mystery.

Days Of Our Lives Spoilers – Everett Lynch/Bobby Stein Is The Victim

Just a little casual conversation between a gal and her victim. How casually she discussed with the apparition of Li how the perfect opportunity to murder Everett/Bobby just presented itself.

House II: The Second Story (1987)
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) – The Best Scene
House II: The Second Story (1987)
After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, and three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at a scene from an entry in my favorite horror franchise, Friday the 13th. The film Lance is talking about today is Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (watch it Here), and the section he’s focusing on is the entire climactic sequence in which iconic slasher Jason Voorhees gets knocked around by the telekinetic abilities of heroine Tina. You can hear all about it in the video embedded above!
