Harrison Ford's $315.2 Million Quotable Blockbuster Just Landed on Streaming – and It's Free!
Image
Air Force One is wheels up once again—this time for free. The high-flying 1997 action-thriller starring Harrison Fordhas landed on Pluto TV as part of its July 1 streaming drop, bringing with it one of the actor’s most iconic roles and a line that Ford himself still loves to quote in everyday life. Yes, that line: “Get off my plane!” The movie wasn’t just a hit—it was a full-throttle blend of two of the biggest trends in '90s cinema: action movies set aboard commercial aircraft and fictionalized takes on the American presidency.

Air Force One mashed both genres into one red-white-and-blue blockbuster and delivered a perfect star vehicle for Ford, who by that point had played both Han Solo and Indiana Jones and was more than ready to take on the role of the President of the United States. The film was directed by Wolfgang Petersen—a...

Check Out This ’90s Action Thriller Starring Harrison Ford As US President(Photo Credit –Facebook)

Harrison Ford’s filmography stands unparalleled among Hollywood veterans. Ford has long been synonymous with cinematic adventure and is one of the few actors to headline multiple blockbuster franchises, like Star Wars and Indiana Jones. A licensed pilot like Tom Cruise, Ford’s most iconic role is that of Han Solo, the daring pilot of the Millennium Falcon.

Recently, he joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Captain America: Brave New World, portraying Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the U.S. President who transforms into Red Hulk. Interestingly, this isn’t Ford’s first presidential role; he previously portrayed the U.S. President while piloting Air Force One in the 1997 action-thriller of the same name.

Air Force One: Plot

Released in 1997, Air Force One capitalized on the ’90s trend of high-stakes action films set in confined spaces, akin to Die Hard and Speed.

Harrison Ford is regarded among the most legendary prominent actors in Hollywood, and rightly so. He has cemented this firm reputation for himself in the entertainment industry with his beyond-outstanding acting chops and unwavering bold persona, the latter of which has even seen him breaking some rules on set at times.

But being the star that he is, Ford ended up breaking all the rules simultaneously—a stunt Oldman will, perhaps, never forget.

Why Christina Ricci Doesn't Want to Play a Mother On-Screen
Image
When Netflix announced that Christina Ricci would be appearing in the first season of Tim Burton’s Wednesday series, some fans hoped that she would be taking on the role of Morticia, the mother of the titular character she played in two movies in the 1990s. However, in a new interview with Variety, Ricci indirectly addressed one reason why that was probably never an option for her.

When asked about which roles she would like to play that she hasn’t already, the Yellowjackets star segued into talking about a role that she doesn’t want to take on in a movie or series: a mother. She told the publication:

“I’ve always said that I wanna play a mute [laughs]. If you don’t have to talk on camera, that’s my favorite thing. … I don’t really ever wanna play a mother on camera. I guess maybe the way...

The Oscar-winning actress — most recently seen playing Morticia Addams in Netflix's Wednesday — has signed on to lead a new, darkly comedic thriller series for Prime Video called Kill Jackie. The show is based on the novel The Price You Pay from author Nick Harkaway (under his pseudonym Aidan Truhen). Zeta-Jones will also executive produce the series.

According to new reporting from Variety, Kill Jackie (which is currently its working title and may change — but we think they'd be fools to do so) is said to follow Jackie Price, a woman, "who has been living a wealthy, luxurious existence for the last 20 years – traveling the world, selling fine art using sophisticated tax loopholes and, above all, trying to stay anonymous after escaping a dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer."

Could Harrison Ford return for Air Force One sequel?

“Get off my plane…again!” Harrison Ford starred in Air Force One as President James Marshall, who must retake the titular plane when a group of terrorists hijack it and take everyone hostage, including his wife and daughter. The film was a major success upon its release in 1997, grossing over $315 million worldwide. Although there’s been talk of an Air Force One sequel, nothing has come together. Wednesday Season 2 Filming Update Means The Series Could Return At The Perfect Time In 2025
Image
Wednesday's filming update suggests the series might return at a perfect time next year. Season 1 of the Netflix hit series that stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character and Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair aired in November 2022. Though the series was a huge success, due to Covid-19, writers' strikes and other roadblocks, production for Wednesday season 2 didn't start until May 2024.

According to WhatsonNetflix's official X account, Wednesday has wrapped filming for season 2, which seems to indicate the perfect timing for the series' return. Season 1 of the hit Netflix series wrapped production on March 30, 2022, but the series wasn't released until eight months late in November. With post-production taking a while, it's likely the series won't return until fall next year, which means Wednesday season 2 might just be in time for the spooky season.

‘A Few Good Men’: THR’s 1992 Review
Image
On Dec. 2, 1992, Columbia premiered the Aaron Sorkin adaptation A Few Good Men in New York. The film, starring Tom Cruise and directed by Rob Reiner, went on to nab four nominations at the 65th Academy Awards, including a nom for best picture. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:

A Few Good Men should win a few good Oscar nominations. A crisp, full-dress adaptation of Aaron Sorkin’s successful play, this Castle Rock production will prove a formidable assailant on all fronts — the boxoffice, awards and critical. Tom Cruise, equal parts mettle and dazzle, erupts with a fully fleshed lead performance that should finally bring him his just due as an actor, while Jack Nicholson forges a terrific performance as an ironpants militarist. Those volcanic lead performances, coupled with director Rob Reiner’s savvy sense of entertainment, will win salutes from a wide spectrum of audiences.

A Few Good Men: This Tom Cruise classic stands the test of time
Image
In the early nineties, Tom Cruise was at a crossroads in his career. As he approached thirty, the time was fast approaching when he could no longer play the kind of “cool young guy” role that had made his eighties movies such huge successes. Indeed, the formula was starting to wear thin, with Days of Thunder underperforming at the U.S. box office. His follow-up, Far and Away, performed even worse, landing with a thud at the North American box office, despite it re-teaming Cruise with his now wife Nicole Kidman, whose career was starting to take off. It was time for Cruise to tweak the kind of movies he was making, and sure enough, his next film, A Few Good Men, would kick off a streak of 5 back-to-back $100 million hits, which would make him the most bankable actor in the world.

A Few Good Men was based on a play by Aaron Sorkin,...

Wednesday Season 2 Is Officially Bringing Back One Of My Favorite Things About Jenna Ortegas Netflix Show
Image
Wednesday season 2 is officially bringing back one of my favorite things about the first outing, and this makes me even more excited about the return of Jenna Ortega's Netflix show. Wednesday season 1 was a huge success upon its 2022 release, and I'm eager to see where the next outing takes the titular heroine's story. We can expect Ortega's character to return to Nevermore Academy during the show's sophomore season, and it sounds like its story will lean more heavily into the supernatural horror elements from the previous outing.

With a couple of exceptions, Wednesday's main cast will also be back for season 2 and the behind-the-scenes talent is returning as well. The Netflix series is even bringing back one of my favorite elements of the first outing: Tim Burton's directing. Gough recently sat down with Collider to discuss Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which he scripted with Wednesday's other co-creator Miles Millar, and the forthcoming second season of Wednesday. Dick Maas Turned His Own Elevator Horror Movie ‘The Lift’ into ‘The Shaft’ [Revenge of the Remakes]
Image
While horror remakes are inevitable, its rare that international filmmakers are hired to helm American remakes of their originals. Even fewer filmmakers get to make not one, but Two movies about sentient killer elevators (Killovators? Murdervators?). Lucky for us, Dick Maas laughs in the face of convention. His feature debut, The Lift, is a zany 1980s concoction of A.I. paranoia and cable-attached monsters, kickstarting his career as an odd duckling who cherishes a proper B-Movie script. Movies like Amsterdamned, Prey (aka Uncaged), and Sint would further cement his audacious brand of metropolitan nightmares that treat midnight movie storylines with higher prestige, only adding to the Dutchman’s legacy.

Maas’ The Lift might seem like a strange choice for an American remake—a procedural thriller about corrupt elevator companies—but it’s hailed as one of the Netherlands’ premiere horror imports. Imagine an episode of The Twilight Zone with more...

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega addresses the absence of her co-star Percy Hynes White in season 2 of the hit Netflix series. In season 1, Hynes White played Xavier Thorpe, a psychic peer of Ortega's Wednesday Addams at Nevermore Academy, and one of the series' most prominent characters. Following multiple accusations of sexual assault, which he denied, Hynes White was not brought back for season 2.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Ortega briefly spoke about Hynes White not being in season 2 and the impact it has on the series. She said that the actor's absence has been "a weird redirect, but we're introducing so many different characters that I think it will get kind of lost.

Harrison Ford will be playing President for the second time in his career in the upcoming Marvel film Captain America: Brave New World. The actor will be playing Thaddeus Ross, who has graduated from being Secretary of State to being the Commander-in-Chief of the country in the MCU.

While he plays the President in the MCU, a former President of the USA seemed to shower compliments on Ford. Donald Trump, who was the 45th President of the USA reportedly loved Ford’s performance as the Potus in Air Force One. However, Ford had a sarcastic response to the controversial businessman.

Best Classic Movies In The Action Genre
Image
Every genre has classics: movies that sit at the vertex because they have all the necessary ingredients that fans always look forward to. In the action movie category, several examples, such as Die Hard and Predator, have exceeded expectations. Although many action movies have recently begun assimilating elements of other genres, they often remain faithful to what the fans want.

Thanks to their high quality, such films transcend eras and trends, hence they have remained as entertaining as they were during their premiere years. These classic action movies not only featured the biggest names of the time in starring roles but also had great storylines that kept viewers entertained, even when characters weren’t engaging in fisticuffs and shootouts.

Updated on March 19, 2024, by Ajay Aravind: The action movie genre is as old as cinema itself, arguably beginning with 1903's The Great Train Robbery. With the sheer surplus of action features...

Why An Air Force One Reboot Would Be A Way Bigger Challenge Than It Was In 1997
Image
The premise of "Air Force One" — President James Marshall (Harrison Ford) foils terrorists who hijack his plane, John McClane-style — requires national unity. The film calls for you to root for the president and only works if the majority of the audience (i.e. the U.S. population) sees their president as an unimpeachable good guy (pun intended). That is simply not the reality of America of 2024. "Air Force One" screenwriter Andrew Marlowe spoke to Syfy recently about why, to use the cliché, the film couldn't be made today.

"When we were doing it, the presidency and that position was not as politically charged as it is today. And so, I think that there are specific challenges about doing it in the contemporary climate that we would have to figure out."

Marlowe adds he'd only be interested in a follow-up if it reflected the world as is now: "Are we saying something new?...

Harrison Ford Refused One Specific Direction In Air Force One's Script
Image
Wolfgang Petersen's appealingly preposterous "Air Force One" required a specific type of leading man to work. The 1997 action-thriller is basically "'Die Hard' on a plane," so you couldn't cast an unstoppable hunk like Arnold Schwarzenegger as a U.S. president forced to save the day when his personal ride is hijacked. (Not that filmgoers would have necessarily bought Arnie as a politician at the time -- we were kind of naive that way.) What you needed was someone who specialized in playing John McClane-types, ergo the sort of action star whose characters were charming and handsome yet far from invulnerable. The film's creatives had the right idea when they tried to recruit Kevin Costner, but the Oscar-winner himself had an even better idea when he passed the script on to Harrison Ford.

We don't love Ford because he's unstoppable. In fact, his characters are imminently stoppable...

Air Force One Had A Villain Backstory That We Never Got To See
Image
"Air Force One" is my favorite "Die Hard" knock-off. Directed by the late Wolfgang Petersen and released in 1997 (when the Cold War was newly over and America was an unrivaled superpower), the film features terrorists hijacking — what else — Air Force One. President James Marshall (Harrison Ford), a Vietnam War veteran, personally defeats them.

Making the President of the United States into John McClane, the quintessential "in the wrong place" everyman? That's some ridiculous high-concept moviemaking I can get on board with.

Now as for the villains, Gary Oldman does his best Hans Gruber as Egor Korshunov. We know what he wants: a restored Soviet Union. When he's called about his demands, he waxes poetic about seeing "The capitalists dragged from the Kremlin," and he throws in Marshall's face about how America has "given [Russia] to gangsters and prostitutes."

While Korshunov is the villain everyone remembers (how could he not be...

Air Force One's Screenwriter Had One Concern About The Film's Most Famous Line
Image
In Wolfgang Petersen's 1997 thriller "Air Force One," Harrison Ford plays President James Marshall, the rare commander-in-chief who is just as capable at punching a-holes in the jaw as he is at policy. Although the Cold War was over by 1997 — the Russian coup d'état happened in 1991 — Russians were still a handy movie "bad guy" in American cinema for a few extra years. As such, the bad guy in "Air Force One" was a bitter Russian jerkwad named Egor Korshunov (Gary Oldman) who felt the collapse of the Soviet Union could still be undone. President Marshall didn't take kindly to Korshunov's attempts to hijack Air Force Once, and the President kills multiple Russian goons over the course of the movie.

The film ends with Korshunov and Marshall grappling near an open cargo bay door, engaging in an action movie's usual round of merry fisticuffs. Before dispatching with Korshunov, Marshall angrily yells "Get off my plane!

The Air Force One Sequel Idea That Never Saw The Light Of Day
Image
I think we can all agree that James Marshall was one of our greatest presidents. I mean, he single-handedly stopped a terrorist attack and saved his entire family in the process!

What's that? You don't remember that happening? And you don't remember President James Marshall ever holding office? Well, that's because none of this happened ... in the real world. But in the wonderful world of movies, James Marshall was indeed a president who kicked some ass, and was played by none other than Harrison Ford in the Wolfgang Petersen blockbuster "Air Force One."

In that very silly, very enjoyable film, the official airplane of the President of the United States is seized by terrorists (lead by Gary Oldman!). The President and his family are taken hostage. But this is not your average Potus! No, James Marshall is a Vietnam veteran and a war hero, so he knows how to handle himself.

Why we never got an Air Force One sequel
Image
Air Force One – which found president Harrison Ford telling that darn Korshunov to “Get off my plane!” – was a massive hit at the box office, taking in $173 million domestically and another $142 million in the international market to be one of Wolfgang Petersen’s biggest hits. And so, with the influx of sequels in the ‘90s, it’s a bit surprising that Air Force One never had a follow-up. Come on, the vice president literally flies on Air Force Two!

Getting a sequel to Air Force One off the ground was in consideration for a while but as screenwriter Andrew W. Marlowe told Syfy Wire, it was the repetitive nature of franchises like Die Hard that kept another installment from ever happening, saying, “…every time John McClane goes on vacation or goes anywhere, the terrorists take over.” As such, he and some execs at Beacon Pictures could never come up with a passable idea.

Air Force One Sequel & Reboot Chances Addressed By Writer 27 Years Later
Image
Air Force One sequel or reboot faces challenges due to the potential absurdity of constantly hijacked flights and the difficulty in maintaining the original's success. The unlikelihood of the original cast and crew's return poses another problem for a sequel, but a reboot could overcome this issue. Political sensitivity surrounding terrorism and the Presidency today would require careful balance in a sequel or reboot of Air Force One.

It has been 27 years since Air Force One's 1997 release, and one of its writers is opening up about whether the movie needs a sequel. The movie featured an all-star cast, including Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, Glenn Close, and more leading actors. The plot is relatively simple, as Ford's President James Marshall desperately works to regain control of Air Force One after terrorists hijack the flight.

While the cast of Air Force One has gone on to star in numerous other movies,...

Cast Of Patriot Games: Where You've Seen The Actors Before
Image
The cast of Patriot Games features a mix of massive stars, understated performers, and up-and-coming talents, delivering an action-packed platform for its ensemble. Harrison Ford's performance as Jack Ryan in Patriot Games was well-received and helped anchor the exhilarating story, despite skepticism about his age. The cast also includes notable actors such as Anne Archer, Patrick Bergin, Sean Bean, Thora Birch, and James Earl Jones, who all contribute to the film's success.

The cast of Patriot Games is an impressive roster of massive stars, as well as a fair mix of understated performers and up-and-coming talents. Premiering in 1992, the film is the second in the Jack Ryan series based on the novels by bestselling author Tom Clancy. 5 Iconic Roles Harrison Ford Could Return To (Now That Indiana Jones Is Gone)
Image
Now that Harrison Ford has officially hung up his hat as the iconic adventurer Indiana Jones, there are plenty of great roles in the star's back catalog that he could revisit. Despite Ford's Indiana Jones exit, he has clarified that he is far from finished with acting, stating “I don't do well when I don’t have work.” While the star's career has been defined by his two most iconic roles, the aforementioned explorer and Star Wars’ Han Solo, Ford has seen a rich and varied career, one which thrived in the '80s and '90s with numerous great roles across genres including comedy, thriller, action, and sci-fi.

Harrison Ford remains a bankable star, one whose attachment to a legacy sequel would certainly help get the project greenlit. However, getting Ford himself on board with a sequel would be no mean feat. The actor takes his independence and...

Forget Wednesday's Record-Breaking Success, Beetlejuice 2 Is Tim Burton's Real Comeback
Image
Tim Burton's return to form with the success of "Wednesday" proves that he still has his magic as a director, but "Beetlejuice 2" will be the true test of his cinematic comeback. "Beetlejuice 2" has the potential to fix Burton's 13-year slump at the box office, with its strong cast, Halloween release, and revival of a beloved horror-comedy classic. The critical reception of "Beetlejuice 2" will determine if Burton can return to his prime, with the original "Beetlejuice" remaining one of his best-reviewed films. Success for the sequel will confirm that Burton is truly back.

Beetlejuice 2 is slated to be Tim Burton’s next big blockbuster, and it will cement his comeback more than Wednesday ever could. Wednesday was a smash hit for Netflix and Burton, as well as propelling Jenna Ortega into the spotlight, and The Addams Family spin-off became one of the streaming service's most-viewed shows ever.

How Will Harrison Ford’s Thunderbolt Ross Hold Up to Previous Iterations?
Image
Harrison Ford is, by far, the oldest actor who has ever played the role of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. Ford, who will make his first screen appearance as Ross in the upcoming film Captain America: Brave New World, will be eighty-two years old when the film is released next year.

In comparison, Sam Elliott was only fifty-eight years old when he played Ross in the 2003 film Hulk, while William Hurt, who played Ross in five films, beginning with 2008’s The Incredible Hulk and ending with 2021’s Black Widow, was also fifty-eight when he appeared in The Incredible Hulk and seventy-one when Hurt, who died in 2022, appeared in Black Widow.

However, while Elliott and Hurt certainly left an enduring legacy with these performances, their portrayals of Ross were entirely in a supporting capacity. Conversely, the casting of a superstar like Ford clearly indicates that Ford’s Ross will be featured much more prominently within the MCU,...

Wednesday Season 2 Will Abandon Love Interests for More Horror

Wednesday star Jenna Ortega recently revealed that Season 2 of the Netflix series would feature less romance in favor of more horror elements.

As part of Variety's Actors on Actors series, Ortega sat down with Elle Fanning to discuss their current and upcoming projects. During the conversation, Ortega revealed that Wednesday Season 2 would "lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more. Because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously." She added that the upcoming season will not feature a "romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great." In Season 1, Wednesday was part of a love triangle involving Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) and Xavier Thorpe (Percy Hynes White).

Why Is It So Hard to Make a Good U.S. President Biopic?
Image
When thinking about the most iconic United States presidents in cinematic history, many of the most popular names that come to mind are Harrison Ford’s James Marshall in Air Force One, Michael Douglas’ Andrew Shepard in The American President, Bill Pullman’s Thomas Whitmore in Independence Day, or Kevin Kline’s Dave Kovic in Dave. Whether the President of the United States has been reimagined as an action hero, a romantic lead, or a comical oaf, it’s generally more interesting to see fictional leaders that can stay out of divisive political topics than recreating a figure that could reignite any recent or historical controversies. There’s a responsibility that comes with covering the life of a U.S. president, as they are bound to be analyzed for their historical accuracy, bias on the part of the filmmakers, or allusions to today’s political issues.
