At this time last year, Universal Pictures was celebrating its first major box office success of the year, when Fifty Shades of Grey opened with a whopping $85.1 million in its debut weekend in theaters. Today, author E.L. James revealed on her Instagram page that filming is now under way on the highly-anticipated sequel Fifty Shades Darker. While we don't know exactly where production is taking place, hopefully we'll get to see more from the set soon.

Back in November, we reported that both Fifty Shades of Grey sequels, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed, will be shot back-to-back. Universal has already set a February 10, 2017 release date for Fifty Shades Darker, with the finale Fifty Shades Freed arriving one year later on February 9, 2018. No official plot details have been released quite yet, but the E.L. James novel this sequel is adapted from opens with Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson) distancing herself...

Universal Pictures has just added its first new cast member for the highly-anticipated Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker. Variety reports that Kim Basinger has signed on for the key role of Elena Lincoln, joining Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. Production is slated to begin this spring, with a report from November revealing that both this follow-up and the third adaptation, Fifty Shades Freed, will be shot back-to-back.

The Elena Lincoln character was mentioned in last year's blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey, which sets up the reveal in this sequel. In the E.L. James novels, Elena Lincoln is Christian Grey's (Jamie Dornan) business partner and former lover. While the studio does plan on shooting both sequels back to back, it isn't quite clear when production will begin, but Universal has set a February 10, 2017 release date. It's become a Den Of Geek tradition to compile lists about the films we're most looking forward to in the following year, but it's sometimes the case that the bigger, more obvious movies occupy our minds more than the smaller, independent ones.

So to redress the balance a little, we've cast our nets a little wider, and sought out a selection of 20 films which don't necessarily have big budgets or the backing of a major studio, but nevertheless deserve our attention thanks to the quality of their cast, filmmakers or their concepts alone.

Marcia Gay Harden has signed on to play Dr. Grace Trevelyan in Fifty Shades of Grey, as production continues in Vancouver.

Before she became his adoptive mother, Dr. Grace Trevelyan treated Christian Grey (Jamie Dornan) after his biological mother committed suicide when he was just four years old. She also adopted Elliot Grey (Luke Grimes) and Mia Grey (Rita Ora). In the E.L. James novel, she lives in Bellvue, Washington with her husband, Carrick Grey.

The story centers on Christian, now a 27-year-old billionaire, and his sultry affair with young college student Anastasia Steele (Dakota Johnson). Jennifer Ehle, Victor Rasuk, Eloise Mumford and Max Martini also star in the adaptation.

Sam Taylor-Johnson is directing from a script by Kelly Marcel, Patrick Marber and Mark Bomback, based on the E.L. James book.

Marcia Gay Harden most recently starred in Parkland. She can currently be seen on the ABC sitcom Trophy Wife.

Los Angeles, Nov 14: The big screen adaptation of "Fifty Shades of Grey", an erotic novel by British author E.L. James, has been postponed by six months and it will now release on Feb 13 2015, reports contactmusic.com.

Directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson, the film was originally slated to release Aug 1 2014.

The shoot for the movie was delayed after the film's male lead Charlie Hunnam dropped out. Jamie Dornan has since replaced Hunnam for Christian Grey character.

Dornan will star alongside Dakota Johnson, who will be seen as Anastasia Steele, Luke Grimes, who will play Christian's brother Elliot Grey and Jennifer.

Anastasia Steele's got her Christian Grey—and she's even got his big brother Elliott, but the girl still needs her best friend! Now that "Fifty Shades of Grey" has found its Christian Grey (again), the movie is filling out the rest of the major roles.

Variety reports that "True Blood" actor Luke Grimes -- who played James, Jessica's love interest on the HBO vampire drama -- has been cast as Elliot Grey, Christian's brother. The news comes on the heels of Jamie Dornan replacing Charlie Hunnam as the movie's main protagonist.

In the erotic novel by E.L. James, Elliot goes along with Christian when he picks up a drunk Anastasia (to be played by Dakota Johnson) at a bar. There, he meets and flirts with Anastasia's friend Kate (yet to be cast). Elliot is also a part of the book's sequels.

Grimes is an up-and-coming actor who's had small parts in "Brothers and Sisters" and "Taken 2." Once director Sam Taylor-Johnson fills out the rest of the cast, filming is set to begin in the next few weeks.

In case anyone doubted Channing Tatum is on a mission to appeal to every audience there is, today comes the news, per the Hollywood Reporter, that the Magic Mike star is in talks to play legendary daredevil Evel Knievel in a biopic set to be produced by the same guys making 50 Shades of Grey, Mike DeLuca and Dana Brunetti.
