Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill has wrapped up filming Rawson Marshall Thurber’s film adaptation of the 1980s animated TV series Voltron. Cavill joined the film in October 2024, appearing in a supporting role alongside newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye. The filming began in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, in December 2024.
Thurber earlier revealed that he was going to stay true to the spirit of the original TV series. Cavill is playing King Alfor, while Quinn-Toye plays the role of Shiro. While it was reported that the film will be released on Prime Video, the latest message seems to suggest otherwise.

The live-action adaptation of Voltron, starring Henry Cavill, is bound to make its way to Prime Video anytime soon. Filming for the sci-fi feature began in December 2024, and it won't be long till a release date is announced. But according to the latest reports, this star-studded feature, which includes the talents of Rita Ora, Sterling K. Brown, and John Kim, will be a streaming exclusive.
In April 2025, Prime Video released a statement that it plans to release 14 movies in 2026 and noted that the streaming giant has brought out "five to eight" movies per year in the past. But despite their commitment to bringing their exclusives to the cinema, it was recently reported that there are no plans to bring the Voltron movie to theaters and that it will be a Prime Video exclusive.

Former Man of Steel and The Witcher, Henry Cavill, has several major projects in the works for Amazon. One such project is the live-action Voltron movie which, despite being something with major blockbuster potential, could suffer a somewhat unceremonious streaming fate.
No release date has yet been revealed for the Voltron adaptation, but the movie has amassed a star-studded cast for director Rawson Marshall Thurber’s sci-fi action outing. Despite all this, a new report (via GameRant) claims that Amazon is not planning to release Voltron in theaters, and will instead give the movie a straight-to-streaming release, much like Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman’s Road House remake last year.
The insight claims that, with filming having wrapped last month, Amazon is now looking to release Voltron “straight to their Prime Video streaming service,” and thus go back on their previous “commitment to theatrical exhibition.” This is sure to be...

Dark Matter's renewal is exciting, but it also means season 2 of the multiverse show could follow a similar trajectory that doomed another adaption of a book by the same writer. Blake Crouch is a renowned sci-fi author, and while only two shows have been created from his literary works so far, there is far more potential to come from his impressive back catalog. Although changes were made to 2016's Dark Matter book for season 1, the overall story remained the same in Apple TV+'s version. However, Dark Matter season 2's confirmation calls for a very different production process.
Joel Edgerton led the cast of Dark Matter season 1 as Jason Dessen. Although the inaugural run of episodes ends with the possibility of Edgerton's return in season 2, the story's continuation would also largely make sense without his presence. Dark Matter season 1's ending implies the focus will shift to other characters.

Twin Peaks reshaped TV with its surreal horror and soap opera elements, influencing many shows like True Detective and Dark. Twin Peaks' atmospheric menace in a small-town setting and the central question of who killed Laura Palmer are uniquely haunting. Led by Kyle MacLachlan, Twin Peaks spawned imitations and homages, making it an incredibly important cult classic.
It's impossible to name every single horror movie or TV show inspired by Twin Peaks. Without a doubt, David Lynch and Mark Frost's mystery drama reshaped television and visual storytelling when the series premiered in 1990. Packed with surreal, horror, and soap opera elements, Twin Peaks has an incredibly distinct feel. The atmospheric menace that permeates the show's small-town setting is uniquely haunting, as is the cosmic nature of Twin Peaks' central question: Who killed Laura Palmer? Led by Kyle MacLachlan's Dale Cooper, Twin Peaks is a singular series, but it also spawned many imitations and homages.

Missing is a thriller with a complex plot, filled with twists and turns, that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats until the very end. The movie reveals that June's supposedly dead father, James, is behind the kidnapping of her mother, Grace, in his attempt to reunite with his daughter. Missing explores the theme of technology and its positive role in solving crimes, challenging the notion that too much technology is harmful, instead highlighting its usefulness in tracking and finding missing persons.
Warning: This post contains major spoilers for Missing.Nia Long stars as Grace Allen in Missing, a thriller with a lot of twists and turns, and an explosive ending that pays off its gripping plot threads. Directed and written by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, Missing is a standalone sequel to 2018’s Searching starring John Cho. Like its predecessor, Missing’s plot isn’t as straightforward as it initially seems.

In 2018, Aneesh Chaganty's "Searching" changed the mystery movie game by popularizing the "screen life" thriller, framing its action and ample surprises squarely within the confines of a computer screen. The film followed David (John Cho), a widower on the hunt for his missing teen daughter Margot (Michelle La), and it proved to be a surprise box office hit thanks to its novel concept and a great performance by Cho. With a $75 million box office haul against a shoestring budget, a follow-up film seemed like a no-brainer. That's where "Missing" comes in.
Released in spring 2023, "Missing" doesn't actually have much in common with "Searching" aside from an excellent lead actor, some producers and crew members, and a story about a missing family member. The movie is a standalone sequel, meaning it makes total sense even if you never saw "Searching." But "Missing" is anything but simple; with countless twists and...

Missing is unique when it comes to movies. The screenlife thriller doesn't rely on much physical activity to keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Instead, applying found footage emitted through a computer screen offers enough intrigue to generate spine-tingling shudders, especially when paired with the premise, which delivers a plausible sense of terror. After all, there's something to be said for a scenario involving someone not knowing what happened to their loved ones, and the film successfully builds off that real-world possibility to such a degree that Missing creates a lot of exciting tension -- until it doesn't.
That's not to say that parts of the movie are dead-weight, but Missing shines brightest when subverting the normal expectations anticipated in the genre. As a result, the film can be broken down into two juxtaposing movies: everything that occurs before the big reveal and the rest that follows. Incidentally,...

A follow-up film from the same team behind 2018’s Searching, Missing is one of this year’s best thrillers, the “Screenlife” film scaring up $48.6 million at the worldwide box office.
Missing was released on Digital and Blu-ray back in March by Sony, and the film also made its way onto Netflix last week. Now streaming, it’s become a top title for the service.
For the week running May 15 – May 21, Missing was the #6 most streamed title on Netflix, behind films including Synchronic, A Man Called Otto, Ted, and The Mother.
Missing was watched for 5.2 million hours during that first week on the platform. You can stream Missing on Netflix now – and we highly recommend you do. The film unfolds a mystery that’s as compelling as any true crime docuseries, loaded with twists and cleverly constructed and conveyed through modern technology. It’s one of this year’s must-see genre gems.

Back in 2018, Aneesh Chaganty’s “Screenlife” thriller Searching was a huge hit at the box office, grossing over 75 million worldwide against a reported 880,000 budget. This past weekend brought the theatrical release of Missing, a follow-up film from the same team.
Opening in 3,025 theaters across the United States over the weekend, Missing just scared up 9.3 million at the domestic box office, and it’s likely to have legs in the coming weeks.
The catch here is that Missing cost a lot more to make than Searching – the reported production budget is 7 million – but it’s well on its way to being profitable in theaters.
Storm Reid and Nia Long star in Missing, with the cast also including Joaquim de Almeida, Ken Leung, Amy Landecker, Daniel Henney, Megan Suri and Tim Griffin.

Missing, the standalone follow-up to 2018’s hit thriller Searching, has a small but highly capable cast to bring its story to life. The film, directed by Nicholas D. Johnson and Will Merrick, follows a teenager who uses the technology available to her to find her missing mother, with whom she has a strained relationship.
Missing marks the directorial debut of Johnson and Merrick, who also co-wrote the script together from a story by Searching scribes Sev Ohanian and Aneesh Chaganty. The film has received mostly positive reviews so far, and it will surely be a crowd-pleaser in terms of all the twists and turns the story offers. Missing is one of the rare films where the action takes place through technology — cameras, email, online services, etc. The film’s plot is strengthened by its cast, which is led by one of the stars of Euphoria.

2018’s sleeper hit, Searching, showed you could create an effective edge-of-your-seat mystery thriller told exclusively through the use of the screens that dominate our daily lives in this century. It starred John Cho as a father whose 16-year-old daughter disappears, leading him to use all the tools of the internet to try and trace her steps in order to find her. Its follow-up, Missing, actually improves on that idea with a different story and set of characters, taking it several leaps further in creating a corker of a suspense picture that looks like what a filmmaking master such as Hitchcock might have made had he been an It genius too.
Watching Searching, which was directed and cowritten (with Sev Ohanian) by Aneesh Chaganty, I kept thinking how the real stars of the piece were the film editors who had to put together a puzzle of images in order to create a coherent story.

Screenwriters Aneesh Chaganty and Sev Ohanian, the masterminds behind Sony Pictures Releasing’s mystery thriller, Searching, developed a standalone sequel to the 2018 box office hit. With Nick Johnson and Will Merrick penning the script for their directorial feature debut, the film follows a similar reliance on technology to uncover the twists and turns of its story. Storm Reid stars as June Allen, a teenager who goes on a technological hunt for her missing mother. Offering twists and surprises like its predecessor, Missing is enthralling from beginning to end with a heartwarming theme of family at the center.
June (Reid) and Grace Allen (Nia Long) don’t have the best relationship. After the death of her father James (Tim Griffin), June feels as if her mother just doesn’t understand her. But when Grace disappears while on vacation in Colombia with her new boyfriend Kevin (Ken Leung), June throws all hatred...

When Aneesh Chaganty and Sev Ohanian's "Searching" debuted in 2018, the form-breaking and narratively inventive picture taking place entirely within the digital world served notice of a new and very different kind of movie. Although maybe not as unprecedented a phenomenon as when audiences first saw that train headed right for them (allegedly), "Searching" sent shockwaves through the industry and proved that "Millennial-minded" movies could be so much more than a pejorative. The novelty of the experience, combined with a razor-sharp script and a sizzling lead performance by John Cho, immediately set itself apart from the rest of its peers — especially those (think "Unfriended" or "Cam") that similarly grappled with the idea of putting the "modern" in "modern art" through a freshly 21st-century lens.
Five years later, Chaganty and Ohanian have stepped back from the director's chair, ceding the reins over to "Searching" editors and first-time directors Nick Johnson and Will Merrick...

‘Missing’ Review: Amateur Sleuth Storm Reid Does Her Detective Work by Screens in ‘Searching’ Sequel
It’s hard not to judge “Missing” according to one’s own aptitude — much less appetite — for watching the world via devices, but that would be unfair to the sleight of hand pulled off by directors Nick Johnson and Will Merrick. Making their directorial debuts, the pair chronicle the labyrinthine story of a teenager’s search for her missing mother from what’s probably the least visually interesting perspective possible, very nearly making it cinematic in the process. Still, an improbable escalation of events and more than a few niggling questions about who’s doing what and how renders this screenlife thriller in dimensions that unfortunately resonate better on an intimate, handheld scale than the big screen.
Storm Reid plays June Allen, a restless 18-year-old eager for her mother Grace (Nia Long) to leave on a romantic trip to Colombia with Kevin (Ken Leung), Grace’s new boyfriend. June and...

Missing, the follow-up to Aneesh Chaganty’s inventive 2018 debut Searching, is not for the surveillance-state-anxious. Adopting its predecessor’s template, the film mines and manipulates the tools on a computer desktop to tell a pulsating and alarming story.
Directed by Searching editors Will Merrick and Nicholas D. Johnson, Missing opens with video footage of a happy family swiftly hit by tragedy. Fans of the previous film will be pleased with the opening sequence, which creates a conspiratorial thread between the directors and established viewers. A home video shows a young June (Ava Zaria Lee) attempting to record her father, James, (Tim Griffin), on an old camcorder before her mother, Grace, (Nia Long), steps into the frame and gingerly confiscates the device. The intimate moment leads into a more dolorous one: Medical records, Google searches and emails show that James died from cancer. Bereft and overcome with grief, Grace moves from...

While a viral video of a young boy playing cards with his dead father captured the nation so profoundly that suicides and murders have skyrocketed due to humanity no longer fearing death, allowing every single ghost to be seen by every single human on Earth would be quite the logistical issue for debut writer-director Mali Elfman. Having started crafting Next Exit ten years ago, she’s had plenty time to tweak and hone her script in a way that allows the high-concept, supernatural / sci-fi conceit to dissolve into the background so its heartbreakingly bittersweet, uplifting drama about two people who spent their lives wondering if living was worth the pain can shine through. The questions must still ultimately outnumber the answers.
Don’t therefore treat the fact that no one can see the ghosts other people do as a plot-hole. Just because we saw that boy’s father in the...

Crystal Reed and Tahirah Sharif have signed on to star in Dead Giveaway, an indie comedy-thriller that is being directed by Ian Kimble.
The pic, which was written by Kimble, follows Lia (Reed) and Jill (Sharif). Jill is a hard-partying Philadelphian. This has resulted in some epic nights and legendary stories. What she never expected is waking up next to a stranger who has been brutally stabbed to death in her own bed. On this particular Sunday, that is exactly what she wakes up to. She and Lia spend their day trying to solve the mystery of the cadaver in Jill’s bed and still make it to brunch in time for mimosas.
Suzann Toni and Andrew Vogel of Dynasty Pictures will produce the indie, which will film in Philadelphia, Pa.
Reed is repped by ICM Partners and Silver Lining Entertainment.

Buddy comedies are a Hollywood staple at this point, and they’re fairly easy to execute at a baseline level of competence. Sometimes it’s a script that distinguishes one, sometimes it’s the easy chemistry between the stars, and sometimes it’s a director who elevates things. In the case of Central Intelligence, several things work better than I would have suspected, and as a result, I genuinely enjoyed the movie. Color me shocked. First and foremost, The Rock has become one of the most reliable brands in modern movies, and, yes, I am aware that I just called him a brand. I think he’s more than “just” a movie star. He’s an overall force of personality that exists to just shine positivity and humor and good energy into the world via movies, TV, wrestling, and social media. If The Rock didn’t exist, we’d have to invent him.
