The Orville star and creator Seth MacFarlane shares an optimistic update about the show's future. The Orville: New Horizon, the sci-fi dramedy's third installment, debuted in June 2022 on Hulu. Even though The Orville season 3 finale does offer a sense of closure, a door is kept open to keep the story going.
More than three years after New Horizon wrapped, there haven't been any major developments on new episodes. The actors and crew have struck optimistic tones about the possibility when asked, but nothing has been confirmed. MacFarlane's recent remarks on The Orville season 4 could turn things around, though.
In an interview on Where Everybody Knows Your Namepodcast with Ted Danson, MacFarlane briefly shares that he still plans on doing The Orville season 4. The creator of Family Guy makes a larger point in the quote below, talking about how Hollywood has tended to favor pessimistic narratives over a more optimistic outlook.

When "American Dad!" first aired on Fox, "Family Guy" comparisons were inevitable, especially since both shows were created by Seth MacFarlane. "Family Guy" had been through the wringer, undergoing multiple cancellations, only to come back out on top. "American Dad!" felt like a test to see if MacFarlane could get lightning to strike twice with a different show that nonetheless had many of the same qualities as "Family Guy." That includes talking animals, and the early seasons had a tendency to lean into cutaway jokes that "Family Guy" had become synonymous with.
Over the years, "American Dad!" moved to TBS and then back over to Fox, changing its style of humor along the way. The show's less about making fun of current events and more about seeing just how depraved the Smith family can become with a significant decrease in random cutaways. And for those who have followed "American Dad!

With “American Dad!” returning to Fox — and broadcast television — the show’s producers admit they’re going to have to adjust to those broadcast standards. “The only thing that we’re gonna have to get used to is no longer being able to say ‘shit’ and ‘God damn it,'” executive producer Matt Weitzman told the audience at the show’s San Diego Comic-Con panel on Saturday. “But you know what? We don’t have to find creative ways to be entertained.”
The show, entering its Season 20, recently received a whopping four-season order at Fox, alongside four-season renewals for “The Simpsons,” “Family Guy,” and “Bob’s Burgers” — all shows fomr 20th TV Animation. Fox originally launched the show in 2005, but after it canceled the show, TBS picked it up in 2014. After TBS opted not to renew it, Fox opted to take it back.

Christopher Nolan has directed a series of successful projects in different genres, including superhero films, sci-fi, and biographies. The latter turned out to be his most successful release thanks to Oppenheimer.

You can’t keep a good serial killer down — especially not when there’s IP to exploit.
Dexter Morgan is set to return (again) in Dexter: Resurrection, despite being definitively killed off in New Blood and then casually voiceover-resurrected in Original Sin (a show I loved).
But before Showtime unpacks another bloody chapter, we took a trip down memory lane. And let’s just say… wow. The things we overlooked the first time around? Absolutely unhinged.
(Showtime/Screenshot)
Dexter is poised for yet another chapter. And frankly, it’s the perfect time to revisit the madness that got us here.
While rewatching the series, I noticed just how many moments — big, small, and plastic-wrapped — have aged into either brilliant nuance or total unhinged chaos.
From bizarre kill rituals to forgotten guest stars, these are the 37 things living rent-free in my head.

When Seth MacFarlane’s The Orville launched on Fox in 2017, many dismissed it as a Star Trek spoof. However, viewers soon found the show was an homage to Trek which stood on its own feet. At the recent Indiana Comic Convention, longtime Trek veteran Jonathan Frakes — who played Riker in The Next Generation before going on to direct many episodes of other series — explained the credentials behind the show’s pedigree.
As part of a Star Trek: The Next Generation panel — featuring Frakes, Brent Spiner, and Denise Crosby — a fan asked the stars about their opinion of The Orville. Frakes was quick to praise the critically acclaimed show, highlighting the love with which MacFarlane created the space drama.

CBS has many long-running series. Like most of the big networks on basic broadcast TV, they thrive off of finding a formula and tweaking it ever so slightly to achieve, frankly, astonishing success. However, there are some interesting occasions where a supposed slam dunk doesn't quite make it through the hoop. "NCIS" is one of the programs that helps keep the lights on for CBS, and the show has spawned so many successful spin-offs for the network. TV fan-favorite actor John Corbett, of "The Wonder Years" and "Sex and the City" fame, was shockingly close to starring in an "NCIS" reboot that won't see the light of day. CBS opted not to pursue "NCIS: Red" back in 2013, as the company was worried that too many spinoffs might have diluted the brand.
Corbett's character Roy Quaid appeared in "NCIS: Los Angeles" back in 2013, ahead of the proposed "NCIS: Red" spinoff.

While Sleep Token fans are obsessed with Jerry, the Flamingo, leading up to the band’s new album, “Even in Arcadia,” Peacock is losing its stuffing for a teddy bear named Ted. Why the Sleep Token reference? What can I say? It’s timely, and I’m obsessed. Seth MacFarlane’s mega-popular Ted franchise is already dominating the live-action space with two films and a hit television series, but now it’s looking to conquer the animation arena. Peacock announced Ted: The Animated Series today, bringing the foul-mouthed teddy bear to screens like never before.
Seth MacFarlane will reprise his role as the voice of Ted for the animated series. In addition to playing Snuggle’s evil twin (not really), MacFarlane is producing all episodes with executive producers Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh (Modern Family), who also executive produced the live-action series Ted.

Ted (Seth MacFarlane) just doesn't know when to quit! Peacock has announced that an animated series based on the unpredictable bear created by Seth MacFarlane is officially in development. The announcement comes almost a year after the live-action Tedtelevision series was renewed for a second season by the streaming platform. In order to share the news with the public, Peacock posted a video featuring several stars recording their lines for the animated story. Judging by the actors who appear in the video, it could be safe to assume that the Ted animated show will take place within the timeline of the movies.
The first Ted movie introduced the bear as a creature who was brought to life thanks to John's (Mark Wahlberg) insecurities and fears as a child. While it was adorable to see a child having a best friend to care for him, things changed radically when the pair grew up.

Ever since The Orville wrapped up its third season all the way back in 2022, we've been dying for news of a follow-up. Dubbed The Orville: New Horizons, season 3 was such a step above everything that had come before that it was mind-blowing. Not only was it a great season of Seth MacFarlane's comedic sci-fi drama, it was also just one of the all-around best seasons of science fiction television of that year. Alas, it was also a big, expensive season of television that took more than two years to produce, and Hulu did not rush to give season 4 the green light.
But hope has remained alive for the past several years. Whenever The Orville comes up in interviews, its cast has kept that torch burning. Lead star and general creative force behind the series Seth MacFarlane (Ed Mercer) reassured fans in early 2024 that "the show is not dead," and...

There are a few shows or movies that set a standard and a template for a whole genre. HBO’s 2001 miniseries Band of Brothers not only did that for war dramas but also launched and boosted many acting careers. The series, created by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, presented real-life events of Easy Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division throughout World War II.
The ensemble cast of Band of Brothers is one of the main reasons people still remember the show. Apart from playing the roles of soldiers, actors like Scott Grimes as Donald Malarkey, Kirk Acevedo as Joe Toye, and Damian Lewis as Richard Winters made the audience empathize with their losses and wins and connect with their camaraderie. Now, after more than two decades since its premiere, let’s catch up with some of these talented cast members and see what they are up to.

The 2023 Writers Guild of America strike lasted a whopping 148 days, becoming the second-longest strike in the labor union's history. From May 2 to Sept. 27, 2023, Hollywood writers were on strike after disputes with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) involving demands for higher pay and fair residuals, mandatory writer staffing, and protection from the threat of AI technologies. The strike impacted a slew of hit TV shows, including Abbott Elementary, Stranger Things, Saturday Night Live, The Handmaid's Tale, Severance, Hacks, and The Orville.
The Season 3 finale of the latter show premiered on Aug. 4, 2022, about nine months before the historic WGA strikes. From creator Seth MacFarlane (who donated a total of $6 million to the Entertainment Community Fund during the strikes), The Orville acts as a funny but heartfelt Star Trek spoof of sorts set 400 years in the future and follows the trials and tribulations of a starship crew, made up of both humans and aliens,...

Seth MacFarlane (and Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman)'s adult animated comedy is coming home. American Dad!, the long-running TBS series, is poised to make its return to basic cable when its forthcoming 20th season airs on Fox. For fans of the cartoon, the move follows what seems to be a trend for MacFarlane's animated properties, as his original breakout — Family Guy — made a similar jump back to its home network following some time away.
The news was reported in an exclusive to Deadline, which explains the American Dad! jump as something that's long been in the works. We're talking since the early days of the Warner Bros. Fox is looking to add another show to its animation lineup — by bringing one of its former series back to the network.
The broadcaster is close to making a deal with 20th Television Animation, which produces American Dad!, to return the show to the network, sources say. The show, created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, began its life on Fox before moving to TBS in 2014, where it has run for 10 seasons and more than 200 episodes.
Fox declined comment.
The show’s current two-season order with TBS, which dates back to 2021, will end with Monday’s season finale. Should the deal with Fox go through, it would likely be for a multi-season order, allowing the series to have a relatively seamless transition to delivering new episodes at its once and possibly future home.

“American Dad!” could soon be airing on Fox — again.
Variety has confirmed that 20th Television Animation and Fox Entertainment are nearing a deal to bring the long-running animated sitcom back to the broadcast network on which it launched in 2005. The deal would most likely be a multi-season pickup. The show has aired for nearly 400 episodes to date.
News of the Fox deal comes as “American Dad!” is preparing to air its last original episodes on TBS, which has been the show’s home since 2014. Reruns of “American Dad!” will continue to air on TBS and fellow Warner Bros. Discovery networks Adult Swim and TruTV until at least 2030. Exclusive: American Dad! is coming home. According to sources, the comedy, created by Seth MacFarlane, Mike Barker and Matt Weitzman, would air on Fox starting with its upcoming 20th season, marking the second MacFarlane animated series to return to the network following a break after Family Guy did it two decades ago.
The move of American Dad!, which has been airing on TBS since 2014, had been in the works for months, allowing the 20th Television Animation-made series to remain in production, I hear. Like on TBS, where American Dad! is coming off a string of two-year renewals, the pickup by Fox — now being finalized — is expected to be for multiple seasons. Reps for Fox and 20th TV Animation declined comment.
American Dad!‘s migration to Fox was fueled by the $1.5B deal extension Fox Entertainment and Hulu closed in November that keeps the broadcast network’s shows on the Disney streaming platform in-season.

Seth MacFarlane's The Orville has received high praise from Star Trek: The Next Generation actor Jonathan Frakes. A fan asked him about the parody series at this year's Indiana Comic Convention.
Reported by Collider, a fan asked Frakes, who played William Riker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, his thoughts about Seth MacFarlane's beloved series. The Orville both parodies and pays homage to Star Trek and the Next Generation eras, while also taking inspiration from Star Wars to tell a sci-fi comedy story, with the crew of its space-ship going on serialized adventures. Frakes spoke highly of both MacFarlane and his work, saying, "Seth MacFarlane is arguably our biggest celebrity fan."
One of the reasons Frakes had such nice things to say about The Orville was due to the way MacFarlane utilized Star Trek veteran creatives for the series. "He hired Brannon Braga, who worked on a lot of our best stuff.

Of course, John Lithgow wins the award for the best guest star on Dexter. It’s impossible to forget his menacing character The Trinity Killer. The same goes for other high-profile stars who appeared on one or more seasons, like Keith Carradine, Julia Stiles, Colin Hanks, Mark Pellegrino, Jimmy Smits, and Yvonne Strahovski.
But beyond these few, there were many stars who had guest roles on the show, some even for multiple seasons, that fans who originally watched almost 20 years ago may have forgotten about. In some cases, these actors didn’t get their big breakout role, or at least the role that fans of this generation know them for, until after they were on Dexter. But for fans watching or re-watching now, it’s a pleasant surprise to see them pop up.

An exciting update has been revealed for Ted, the prequel series to Seth MacFarlane's Ted and Ted 2. After a well-received first season, new episodes are on the way with Season 2 now in the can.
On Instagram, MacFarlane shared a post announcing that the second season of Ted has officially wrapped production. While he did not share a premiere date for Season 2, the update would suggest that the series will return to Peacock sooner rather than later. MacFarlane also teased that Season 2 will be even funnier, which should also sound encouraging for fans.

Ted fans can get ready for more adventures with the drug-taking, foul-mouthed bear, as Seth MacFarlane has revealed that filming on the second season has now wrapped. While this is great news, it does not mean that we will be seeing the results on screen just yet, as those who remember Ted’s first season will recall several months of post-production work being required to bring its titular character to life.
However, MacFarlane was delighted to share an update on the series’ continued production, with an X/Twitter post in which he said:
"Today we wrap production on Ted Season 2! Thanks to our stellar writers, cast, and crew for all their amazing work on the funniest season yet!"
Ted is a prequel series to MacFarlane’s popular movie franchise, and goes back in time to when John Bennett (played by Mark Walhberg in the movies and Max Burkholder in the...

Seth MacFarlane Explains Peter Griffin's Startling Confession From a Classic Episode of 'Family Guy'
One of Family Guy's more memorable gags was during Season 4 in the 2006 episode, Untitled Griffin Family History. As the family could possibly drown in a panic room that's flooding, Peter has a major confession to make, "I did not care for The Godfather." His family's reactions are fairly relatable, despite the pending doom.
After the clip had gone viral, series creator and executive producer Seth MacFarlane jumped on X (formerly Twitter) to reveal one of the key lines when Peter was explaining to his stunned family why he didn't care for arguably one of the greatest films in cinematic history, "It insists upon itself."
"Since this has been trending, here's a fun fact: 'It insists upon itself' was a criticism my college film history professor used to explain why he didn't think 'The Sound of Music' was a great film. First-rate teacher, but I never quite followed that one.

After a delay, Family Guy is finally returning, with Season 23 premiering on Sunday Feb. 16, 2025. It will debut at 8 pm Et / Pt, which has long been The Simpsons' time slot, per TheWrap. Rounding out the two-hour block will be Grimsburg Season 2, The Great North Season 5, and Krapopolis Season 2.
The new episode will be a riff on Top Gun, with Peter playing Maverick as he mourns the death of Goose (Joe). His relationship with Charlie (Lois) is explored along with his son, Rooster (Chris). Given Family Guy's winning record with spoofs on beloved movies, expect this one to be a classic.
The show recently celebrated its 25th anniversary, despite being canceled twice since its series premiere on Jan. 31, 1999.
When Does 'The Simpsons' Return?
Just a few weeks back, it was reported that The Simpsons would lose its coveted Sundays at 8 pm Et / Pt time slot, and would be moved to Wednesday nights.

It's not surprising that a show created by Seth MacFarlane would feature big name stars, and his Star Trek homage The Orville is certainly packed with celebrity appearances, from Charlize Theron to Ted Danson. But there’s a huge Hollywood star whose cameo in the second season may have passed you by.
In the seventh episode of season 2, "Deflectors," an envoy from the planet Moclus comes aboard the Orville to escort one of their top engineers, Locar (Kevin Daniels), who is there to help the ship's engineering team upgrade its deflectors. This makes things awkward for the Orville crew member Bortus (Peter Macon), another Moclan and Locar's ex.
And Bortus isn’t the only crew member having troubles with failed love affairs. Having ended a relationship with on-board teacher Cassius (Chris Johnson) at the start of the episode, First Commander Kelly Grayson (Adrienne Palicki) finds herself the recipient of a...
