Mark Millar is ready to close the books on a creation he and artist Peter Gross have been working on for nearly twenty years. American Jesus: Revelation, the third and final volume in their comic book series, debuts issue No. 1 on Wednesday, and The Hollywood Reporter has a look at the opening scene, which takes place in a world in which the antichrist is the President of the United States.

Since launching the series in 2004, Millar has seen a number of his creations adapted for the screen, including Kick-Ass, Wanted and Jupiter’s Legacy, the latter of which Netflix adapted after purchasing the scribe’s comic book company, Millarworld. Now American Jesus is poised to hit screens too as a Netflix TV series.

Matthew Vaughn, director of "Layer Cake" and the upcoming big-screen version of "Kick-Ass," is currently considering an adaptation of Mark Millar and Peter Gross' comic book "American Jesus."

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Vaughn is already in talks with Millar to develop the project. The two have recently been collaborating on "Kick-Ass," based on yet another Millar comic.

In the book, Christ returns to the modern world to engage in a final battle with the Antichrist in order to save the world. The first book is subtitled "Chosen." A second volume, titled "The Resurrection," will be released this fall.

Millar is a wanted man in Hollywood these days. The guy also created the comic book series "Wanted," and he's also currently developing a big-screen version of "War Heroes."

Vaughn's directing credits also include "Stardust." "Kick-Ass," which at this stage looks highly promising, does not have a release date yet.
