Before Superman, Mikaela Hoover Starred In A Forgotten James Gunn Web Series
Image
With over three decades in the filmmaking industry, James Gunn has had quite the journey. His background with Troma Entertainment helped shape his creative sensibilities in genre filmmaking and comedy. When you look at his mainstream screenwriting breakthroughs with "Scooby-Doo" and "Dawn of the Dead," you get a good idea of the booming career that was to come. Following his one-two punch of indie cult classics such as "Slither" and "Super," Gunn started gaining more recognition through the comic book movie genre with the "Guardians of the Galaxy" trilogy and "The Suicide Squad." Now, Gunn serves as the co-ceo of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran, and is currently enjoying the victory lap that was the Dcu's debut film, "Superman," which has dominated the zeitgeist perhaps more than any blockbuster this summer.

Part of what makes James Gunn's creative process so fulfilling for him is his coterie of frequent collaborators. Looking...

Every Confirmed Peacemaker Season 2 Villain Ranked by Threat Level
Image
Peacemaker season 2 will see John Cena’s antihero tackle a whole bunch of villains, both old and new. Written and developed by James Gunn, who is the co-chief of DC Studios and directed Superman recently, Peacemaker season 2 will directly relate to the events of Superman and will see Peacemaker go on another mission with the 11th Street Kids.

Gunn has confirmed that most events of season 1 and The Suicide Squad are canon to the show, which means quite a few villains who survived the previous season will return.

New baddies are also set to cross paths with John Cena, including Gunn’s frequent collaborator Michael Rooker, who plays a mysterious original character. Here are the six villains of Peacemaker season 2 ranked by their threat level.

6. Maxwell Lord Sean Gunn in Peacemaker | Credits: HBO Max

Maxwell Lord was previously played by Mister Fantastic himself, Pedro Pascal, in Wonder Woman 1984, but James...

James Gunn’s Superman Paid Tribute to a Key DC Figure Only Die Hard Fans Can Spot
Image
Superman had many cameos alongside its wonderful main acting cast. One of them was Will Reeve, the son of veteran actor Christopher Reeve. In hindsight, it seems that James Gunn paid tribute to an exemplary actor in a way by including his son in the movie, which is a great directorial move.

In an interview with the New York Post (via People), Will Reeve shared his thoughts on being a part of James Gunn’s vision, saying,

“I went on set, I did my thing for a few minutes, and then got in the car to head back to the airport to go home.”

He further explained, laughing.

“And by the time I had gotten to the gate, it had leaked online that I had a cameo.”

With the fans keeping their eyes on the news to watch out for the movements in such big films, it seems that the...

James Gunn Names His Favorite Superman Character, And You'd Never Guess It In 100 Tries
Image
David Corenswet's Superman may be the star of James Gunn's Superman, but he's not the writer-director's favorite character. Instead, that honor falls upon the alien-like creature, Mr. Handsome, who was shown controlling the hovercraft used inside Lex Luthor's artificial pocket universe.

In a new post on X, Gunn revealed that Mr. Handsome was his favorite character in the DC Universe movie. As part of this post, the filmmaker also shared how exactly Mr. Handsome, was was created specifically for Superman and is unrelated to the DC Comics character of the same name, came to exist within the Dcu. "When people ask me my favorite character from [Superman] it just might be Mr. Handsome. Lex created Mr. Handsome in a Petri dish when he was 12 - he was trying to make a human. He didn't come out so well, but he just might be the only one in the...

'Peacemaker' Dcu Star Reveals Season 2 Finale Have Some "Crazy Stuff"
Image
Peacemaker Season 2 is giving Dcu fans déjà vu, as the main stars of the HBO Max series have revealed that the finale will include some "crazy stuff" that won't be shown to journalists. The long-awaited second season of James Gunn's raunchy superhero series will directly follow the events of Superman.

The cast of Peacemaker revealed to Cbr that the final three episodes of Season 2 will be withheld from the press ahead of their premiere on HBO Max. They confirmed that "there is some crazy stuff" in episodes 6, 7, and 8, but did not elaborate or hint at what that might be. Fans are already speculating that a Superman crossover could be happening over the three-episode stretch. That speculation has some merit, especially since the Peacemaker Season 1 finale was also not shown to the press due to having a Justice League cameo. Whatever it is, it appears that Gunn is not holding...

John Cena On What Superman's Success Means For Peacemaker Season 2
Image
Peacemaker lead John Cena recently opened up about his continued partnership with James Gunn and how the positive buzz surrounding Superman could impact the upcoming second season of the hit Max series.

On filming his cameo, Cena said it was a no-brainer as Gunn is someone that he would show up for, no questions asked. "The cameo came about because he asked me, and he could ask me to go to the ends of the Earth and if I could do it, then I'll do it. He's one of the people on a short list, which I admire and respect and really do as much as I can for them. He's changed my life completely, as I stand here in [the Peacemaker costume]."

And as for what Superman's positive reception means for Peacemaker season 2 and the larger Dcu, Cena replied, "I think to have audiences around the world, embrace James' vision of Superman,...

DC Icons Featured on 'Superman's Hall of Justice Mural Will Appear in the Dcu Soon, James Gunn Reveals
Image
The much-talked-about Hall of Justice mural from Superman teased many characters that exist in the history of the Dcu, from Bulletman and Bulletgirl to Vibe and even two versions of the speedster Max Mercury. It appears that these characters were not only fun little Easter Eggs to help flesh out the world of the Dcu and its history, but also will play a part in its future. James Gunn has now hinted that two of these characters are going to be part of upcoming Dcu projects.

While speaking with IGN at San Diego Comic-Con, Gunn confirmed that two of the characters in the Dcu mural would play a role in an upcoming project, but he didn't specify which title.

“Listen, fans have done a pretty good job. I think they've found all of the different characters. But yeah, I will say that in one of our scripts, we're working on,...

Before Superman, Nathan Fillion And James Gunn Teamed Up For This Sci-Fi Horror Comedy
Image
Some things just go together perfectly, like peanut butter and jelly, coffee and cherry pie, and Nathan Fillion and James Gunn. The Canadian-American actor and American writer/director/co-ceo of DC Studios have been working together for decades on all kinds of projects, including Gunn's recent big screen kick-off for his DC Universe, "Superman." In "Superman," written and directed by Gunn, Fillion plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner, a very different version of the DC hero than the one many fans know and love, Hal Jordan. (Fillion previously voiced Jordan in multiple direct-to-home-media DC animated movies, but the live-action role at the time went to his former "Two Guys and a Girl" co-star Ryan Reynolds instead.)

In fact, Fillion has starred in more Gunn projects than just about anyone, save maybe Gunn's own brother Sean Gunn, going all the way back to the director's 2005 feature debut, "Slither." "Slither" is a...

12 Superman Easter eggs and references you may have missed
Image
After years of underwhelming releases and an overall lack of cohesion in storytelling, DC bounced back with a bang on July 11 with James Gunn’s reliable, comic book-loving direction.

Superman, starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, was loved by fans and critics alike. From incredibly positive early reviews to a $125 million domestic opening weekend, Gunn’s film soared to a summer blockbuster status while delivering a promising revival of the Dcu.

In the movie, Gunn drops us into an existing universe where metahumans are already established. Instead of seeing Kal-El land on Earth in his Kryptonian spaceship, we catch him on just another day in Metropolis—a nod to Gunn’s experience of reading Superman comic books.

However, what the movie does not say out loud in as many words, it makes up for with Easter eggs.

James Gunn shares the full superhero mural that was displayed at the Hall of Justice in Superman
Image
Superman took on all threats in James Gunn‘s Superman, but he wasn’t alone the whole time. Gunn’s kick-start to the Dcu didn’t start from scratch. Not only is Superman established, but there is already a population of metahumans who are already known in this world. Additionally, Lex Luthor’s hatred for the metahumans is already in place as well. Superman is joined by the “Justice Gang” in the movie, which consists of Mr. Terrific, Green Lantern Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl. At one point in the film, we visit the Hall of Justice with the Justice Gang and there is a mural of past metahumans displayed, as both an easter egg and foreshadowing.

Fans asked Gunn about this mural and the director would reward them by posting it on his social media. You can check it out below.

You asked for it, you got it. Here’s...

James Gunn's DC Universe Continues Adapting The Funniest Justice League Ever
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The latest revealed DC Studios television project is a "Booster Gold" TV show from David Jenkins (creator of "Our Flag Means Death"), which has been ordered to pilot at HBO Max (per Deadline). Booster Gold (created by Dan Jurgens in 1986), aka Jon Michael Carter, is a time-traveling superhero from the future. Though he hails from the 25th century, his story is familiar: he's a jock who peaked in high school (being caught gambling on your own games will do that to you). So, he travels back in time in hope of becoming a big fish in a smaller pond.

Though Booster is dense and a self-promoting gloryhound, he's not a bad guy. He's similar to James Gunn's take on Peter Quill/Star-Lord and so should fit naturally into Gunn's new DC Universe if his pilot moves forward. "Booster Gold...

James Gunn Says Two Superheroes In Superman Metahuman Mural Have A Key Role In The Dcu
Image
Well, there was definitely some intriguing heroes revealed in the HD version of Superman's Hall of Justice metahuman mural.

Some of the initial guesses from the low-res screengrabs of the scene were accurate, but others were way off.

Jay Garrick turned out to be Max Mercury, Amethyst ended up being Madame Xanadu, and Doctor Fate was revealed to be Maxwell Lord of all people.

Here is the full list from left-to-right, starting at the top:

Madame Xanadu, founding member of the Demon Knights and Merlin protegee Silent Knight, a medieval superhero from 6th-century England Exoristos, an exiled Amazon of Themyscira Black Pirate, a 16th-century vigilante pirate who was hanged in what would become present-day Opal City Miss Liberty, an American Revolution heroine Whip Whirlwind, one of the many aliases of Max Mercury who isn't fast enough to enter the Speed Force and frequently bounces off and finds himself in a new time period,...

James Gunn Says 'Peacemaker' Season 2 Will Feature More Connections to 'Superman'
Image
Peacemaker had a large presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2025, as the acclaimed HBO Max series is gearing up for the release of its second season in August. Now that James Gunn's Superman movie has finally hit theaters, fans can shift their attention to the next big project in the new DC Universe (Dcu) canon. While the first season of Peacemaker didn't have much of a universe to build on, this upcoming second season is filled with connections to James Gunn and Peter Safran's burgeoning continuity. Interestingly, the co-chairman of DC Studios took to the stage in Hall H to tease the possibility of more characters from Superman overlapping in the upcoming season.

While joking about getting Nathan Fillion to appear in as many Dcu projects as possible to make him wear his Guy Gardner wig, Gunn also provided a small tease, saying that "maybe there’s a couple...

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Releases New Trailer: John Cena Takes on a Wild New Universe”
Image
DC Studios made a big splash at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. They came with something fans were excited for: the trailer for Peacemaker Season 2.

The panel started with the long-awaited trailer for the second season. In it, John Cena’s Christopher Smith, also known as Peacemaker, finds himself in a new parallel universe. It looks just like our world, maybe even better.

In this place, he gets to be with Harcourt, played by Jennifer Holland. But back in the regular world, Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr. is working hard to shut the portal and go head-to-head with Peacemaker. At one point, Leota (Danielle Brooks) tells him, “No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us.”

San Diego Comic-Con had something big to offer this year, especially for fans of Peacemaker.

The panel opened with the new Season 2 trailer. This time, John Cena’s Peacemaker finds himself in a parallel universe. It looks just like ours, but somehow… better. In this new place, he even gets to be with Jennifer Holland’s Harcourt.

But back in the real world, things aren’t so great. Frank Grillo’s character, Rick Flag Sr., who also appears in Superman, is trying to shut the portal Peacemaker crossed through. Leota, played by Danielle Brooks, appears in the trailer and tells Chris: “No matter how great the grass is over there, you belong here with us.”

As John Cena’s Christopher Smith gets an upgrade with a parallel dimension in the forthcoming second season of the HBO Max/DC Studios’ Peacemaker, so will its soundtrack.

Following James Gunn’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con previewing the sophomore installment — at the famed Hall H and prime Saturday evening spot of the weekend — the Superman helmer took to the stage at Peacefest to share additional news.

“I am here to reveal right now — it is a song from my favorite band in the world that is objectively the greatest rock ‘n’ roll band in the world, Foxy Shazam, here they are. They’re gonna perform it for you guys — ‘Oh Lord’ — come on guys!” the DC Studios co-ceo said in welcoming the group.

James Gunn Reveals Dcu Multiverse Spanning Trailer for 'Peacemaker' Season 2
Image
Straight from Comic-Con, DC Studios has unveiled a new trailer for PeacemakerSeason 2. While many had hoped the Dcu would have a significant presence at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 following the release of Superman, James Gunn opted out of a major panel for upcoming projects, including Lanterns and Supergirl. Instead, Gunn is keeping the focus entirely on the immediate next installment in the Dcu, Peacemaker. Peacemaker Season 2 received a panel that gave fans a better idea of what the plot for the series will be and also dropped some exciting details about its relationship to Superman.

DC released a full trailer for Peacemaker Season 2 online after they showed it to audiences at San Diego Comic-Con. The trailer reveals the season will revolve around Christopher Smith / Peacemaker (John Cena) using his father's old quantum unfolding chamber (Quc) to visit a parallel universe where he is taken seriously as a hero. Peacemaker Grapples With a Parallel World — and Rick Flag’s Vengeful Dad — in New Season 2 Trailer
Image
Peacemaker is torn between a world where a livid Rick Flag Sr. wants vengeance, and a parallel world where the grass looks awfully greener, in a new Season 2 trailer unveiled Saturday at San Diego Comic-Con.

Details on Peacemaker‘s Season 2 storyline had been scarce for a long while, aside from showrunner/DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn saying, “It essentially picks up where Season 1 left off, with a couple minor differences” — including the fact that the Justice League that Peacemaker crossed paths with in the finale doesn’t exist yet.

‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Trailer Shows John Cena’s Hero In A Parallel Universe – Comic-Con
Image
DC Studios stepped in at San Diego Comic-Con where Marvel Studios use to dwell: the late Saturday spot in Hall H with the James Gunn co-run Warner Bros comic book label bringing the second season of Peacemaker.

But there was also more reason for glee, for as the panel’s moderator Joshua Horowitz observed: “James this is the first time you’ve been in front of crowd since Superman.” And with that, Hall H erupted in cheer.

The panel kicked off with the new trailer for season 2 which shows John Cena’s Christopher Smith enjoying a new parallel dimension he’s found. It’s just like our, and it’s even better. It’s a place where he can hook up with Jennifer Holland’s Harcourt. Meanwhile, back in the real world, Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr (from Superman) is out to close the portal in his face-off with Peacemaker.

The Real Building That Inspired DC's Hall Of Justice
Image
In James Gunn's "Superman," there's a small group of heroes — Green Lantern/Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), and Mister Terrific (Edi Gathegi) — called the Justice Gang. It's a running gag throughout the movie that no one really likes that name (except Guy). If the DC Universe keeps going, we have to guess a rebrand to the Justice League is inevitable, but at least the Justice Gang already has the right headquarters.

The group is funded by wealthy businessman Max Lord (Sean Gunn), who, in the "Justice League International" comics, was the League's sponsor. Lord's money means the Justice Gang has a large HQ, a whole Hall of Justice. If you're a DC fan from the "Super Friends" days, that name probably rings a bell.

A lot of "Superman" was filmed in Cleveland, Ohio, but the crew also went to a different part of the Buckeye State.

James Gunn Reveals Full ‘History of Metahumans’ Mural From ‘Superman’: Here’s Who’s Who
Image
Eagled-eyed viewers noticed a mural of metahumans that decorated the walls of the Hall of Justice in “Superman.” But with only a handful of blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearances, fans had a hard time naming more than a few heroes included in the design.

Now, writer/director James Gunn is giving audiences the full picture — but even DC fanatics are still struggling to compile a comprehensive list.

Though San Diego Comic-Con will not host a panel for the new Dcu as a whole, Gunn will arrive in Hall H on Saturday to talk about the second season of his series “Peacemaker.” That doesn’t mean he’s leaving “Superman” fans empty-handed this weekend, though.

“You asked for it, you got it,” the Dcu architect shared on X on Friday. “Here’s the full mural honoring the History of Metahumans in the Dcu adorning the Hall of Justice in #Superman.” You can view the post below.

Fans Can Now Dissect ‘Superman’s Massive Hall of Justice Mural Thanks to James Gunn

Hope you have a few hours, because fans now have the chance to sit down and take a long look at the Hall of Justice mural as seen in James Gunn’s Superman, , which induced no end of nerd-squealing. The Dcu movie has been a box office success and as Gunn, David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, and more reap the benefits of that success, fans get a little bit of a reward. Gunn posted to social media today, sharing the art for the Hall of Justice. While Gunn has previously confirmed that we won't necessarily see everyone depicted on the mural in projects, the characters chosen were done so intently. He told Rolling Stone, we'll “not necessarily specifically see all of them, but yes, some of them we already have in the works in different things in different ways.” He says today:

15 Best TV Shows Like Gilmore Girls
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

It's been over 20 years since "Gilmore Girls" premiered, and it is still the cozy cup of coffee that we return to. Some seasons of "Gilmore Girls" are better than others, but a trip to Stars Hollow means that you get to travel to a magical place that has a 1950s charm and unique characters, like Kirk (Sean Gunn), who keeps the town running with his many job skills. The show also sprinkles in self-aware jokes, which usually involve Lorelai (Lauren Graham) making sarcastic comments about non-emergencies that Taylor Doose (Michael Winters) has deemed as true emergencies.

There are moments centered in reality as Lorelai and her daughter, Rory (Alexis Bledel), face life's hurdles, like Lorelai's choice to end her engagement to Max Medina (Scott Cohen). This mix of fantasy and real life allows for both escape and reflection, turning this show into comfort food.

James Gunn Says Anti-American Sentiment Hurts International ‘Superman’ Box Office
Image
James Gunn recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the surprising backlash his movie “Superman” faced before it even hit theaters. Some conservative outlets, including Fox News, called the film “SuperWoke” after Gunn described Superman as an “immigrant” and said the character’s story is really “the story of America.” Gunn said he’s still a bit puzzled by the criticism.

He explained, “I’ve heard people say it was woke, and then I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s not. I am curious as to what in the movie is considered woke.”

Gunn shared that his comments were based on what the Times of London reporter told him, that Superman’s creators, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, were sons of immigrants and made the character as an immigrant story.

Gunn added, “And I said, yeah, it’s a story about an immigrant, but mostly it’s a story to me about kindness,...

James Gunn Doesn’t Get How ‘Superman’ Is ‘Considered Woke’ and Says ‘Anti-American Sentiment Around the World’ Isn’t ‘Helping Us’ at Global Box Office

James Gunn said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that he remains somewhat confused over the conservative backlash that erupted before the release of “Superman.” Fox News and other right-wing outlets branded the movie “SuperWoke” after Gunn went viral for telling the Times of London that Superman is an “immigrant” and “the story of America.”

“I’ve heard people say it was woke, and then I’ve heard a lot of people say it’s not. I am curious as to what in the movie is considered woke,” Gunn told EW amid “Superman’s” box office success. “I think people took something I said…The guy for the London newspaper. Guardians Of The Galaxy Director James Gunn Was Bored By A Recurring Marvel Moment
Image
James Gunn is at the center of geek culture right now. Although all eyes are on his newest film, "Superman" (you can read /Film's review here), now that he's launched the brand new Dcu, it is still worth looking back at how his impressive career has led him. Although he directed the delightful horror film "Slither" and the provocative superhero dark comedy "Super," Gunn's blockbuster sensibilities came into the broader public consciousness in 2014 when Marvel Studios released "Guardians of the Galaxy." The film, about a ragtag group of misfits, was at the time considered a gamble for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it was Gunn's signature sensibilities in humor, heart, spectacle, and music that helped turn the titular team into some of the most beloved characters in the entire MCU.

The first "Guardians of the Galaxy" film introduced the original roster of Guardians, which featured Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt...

James Gunn's DC Universe Could Be Building Toward The Justice League – But Not How You Think
Image
James Gunn's "Superman" does a lot of things right, but arguably the best thing the movie does as the first film in the new DC Universe is create a vast world that feels lived-in. The opening text crawl opens the door for a universe where superheroes have been around for centuries (if not millennia), while the rest of the movie paints a picture of a superhero universe full of magic. Here, kaiju attacks in Metropolis are just another day for the people of the city. Pocket universes are not just theory, they are so real that they simply annoy characters when they find out a villain is using them. This is a world filled with heroes, and one where there's already a corporate superhero team.

And it seems James Gunn is building up to another team, but not the way you think.

In an interview with ScreenRant's Ash Crossan,...

Do Those Cameos Mean ‘Superman’ Is Connected to the Previous DC Movies?
Image
“Superman” is the first film entry in James Gunn’s new onscreen DC Universe, laying the groundwork for more crossovers in the future. But the ones that happen in this movie do beg the question: is “Superman” actually connected to past DC Movies, or what?

There are multiple cameos in the film, but the two biggest ones come in the form of John Cena’s Peacemaker, and Milly Alcock’s Supergirl. The latter of those two was previously announced, and obviously sets up her solo outing, set to hit theaters next year..

But Peacemaker’s presence raises a few questions, given he first appeared in “The Suicide Squad,” which is decidedly not part of the Dcu. Eagle-eyed fans may have also spotted Tinashe Kajese, reprising her role from previous DC projects including “The Suicide Squad” as Florence Crawley.

So, between her and Peacemaker showing up, does that mean “Superman” actually...

Superman Gives James Gunn's Dcu One Big Advantage Over The MCU
Image
The start of DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Universe hasn't been quite as clean as the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The rapid reboot from the previous, similarly named DC Extended Universe to this new iteration of DC's cinematic universe has been less than perfectly clean cut, with a number of projects -- from Gunn's own "The Suicide Squad" to "Blue Beetle" -- creating a muddied connection between the two continuities. All that said, there's no question that "Superman" is the proper beginning of the franchise on the big-screen, kicking off a plan that Gunn has assured the press and public alike has been well thought-out.

To that end, "Superman" is packed (and arguably overstuffed) with details setting up future pieces of the Dcu. Characters like Rick Flag (Frank Grillo) and Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn) have brief cameos, but they're sure to persist in upcoming projects.

James Gunn Admits There Was A Lot Riding On Superman's Success
Image
If Superman had flopped or proved to be yet another DC Comics film that critics eviscerated, where would that leave the Dcu and DC Studios?

I guess we'll never know, or one would have to enter a pocket universe to find out.

With Superman poised to approach or perhaps even eclipse the $400 million global box office mark this weekend and currently sitting at 83% on Rotten Tomatoes, DC Studios co-chief and director James Gunn is finally letting out a huge sigh of relief.

Appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Gunn admitted that he now has a huge weight off his shoulders.

"I have a strange way of approaching work. When I'm working, when I'm filming or writing, I really don't feel pressure- I'm having fun, that's my relief valve. That's a relieving time for me. But then outside of that, yeah, I felt a lot of pressure. I mean, there...

James Gunn Reveals the Surprising Project That Is a "Direct Follow-Up" to the Dcu's Smash-Hit Box Office Debut
Image
James Gunn’s DC Universe isn’t just starting with a new Superman — it’s continuing in a very unexpected place: Peacemaker. During a new interview on Happy Sad Confused, Gunn confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 will be the first direct follow-up to his Superman film, linking the wild R-rated series to the Dcu’s flagship (Rick Flag-ship?) hero. It’s a surprising move, considering Peacemaker Season 1 existed in a post-TheSuicide Squad corner of the Dceu, with minimal crossover to the Justice League and its more traditional heroes. But Gunn’s now making it clear: Peacemaker is not just surviving the reboot — it’s central to it.

Season 2 will feature major characters introduced in Superman, including Frank Grillo’s Rick Flag Sr., Isabela Merced’s Hawkgirl, and Sean Gunn’s Maxwell Lord. Even Guy Gardner, played by Nathan Fillion and seen in Superman, will be sticking around.

"Peacemaker Season 2 is a direct follow-up to Superman.

Mikaela Hoover Talks ‘Superman,’ Cat Grant’s Clark Kent Crush and 17 Years of James Gunn Team-Ups
Image
The James Gunn that Mikaela Hoover met 17 years ago is still the same James Gunn she knows today.

In 2008, long before he became the writer-director of Superman and co-ceo of DC Studios, Gunn first auditioned Hoover for his web short Humanzee!. He was quickly won over by her performance, but her insistence on outdoing herself ingratiated herself to the filmmaker even more. Months later, he created another web short specifically for Hoover called Sparky & Mikaela, which chronicled the crime-fighting exploits of her low-rent superhero character and raccoon sidekick. (If the Guardians of the Galaxy roots weren’t already evident, Guardians actors Sean Gunn and Gregg Henry also show up.)

Hoover would go on to appear in Gunn’s second feature film, Super (2010), before working on five more Gunn-associated films. Her friendship with Gunn didn’t preclude her from auditioning, particularly when she landed an opportunity to read for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3...

A Less-Powerful Superman Is Necessary So That “A Guy With A Bow And Arrow” Matters Says James Gunn
Image
Some of the biggest complaints from Dceu diehards about the new Superman film are centered around the fact that the characters is not as powerful as depicted in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

However, a strong counterpoint is that most of the MCU heavy hitters like Thor and Hulk, are not as powerful as their comic book counterparts and the general audience doesn't seem to mind.

Gunn recently chatted with CBS Mornings and addressed the issue.

"There are some writers in the comics, like Grant Morrison, who took the idea of the all-powerful Superman and told great stories with it. But for me, as a child, the reason I liked Batman better than Superman was because Superman was just too strong at times. We're building a whole universe of characters, and I didn't want to have one guy who was so much stronger than anybody else, that a guy...

James Gunn Clarifies ‘Superman’ Isn’t About Israel-Palestine, But Debate Rages On With Hasan Piker, Ben Shapiro, and Other Political Voices
Image
The new “Superman” movie has been out for just a few days, and while it’s breaking box office records, it’s also stirring up some big online arguments. Some people think the film is making a statement about the real-life Israel-Palestine conflict, while others say that’s nonsense. James Gunn, who directed the movie, says it’s not about the Middle East at all, but the debate keeps growing.

Before the movie was even released, Gunn and the film were already getting attacked by right-wing groups, including the Maga movement. This all started when Gunn said Superman is an immigrant. Because he literally is. He’s an alien from another planet. That comment caused some backlash from conservatives, with Fox News calling the movie “SuperWoke.”

Now that the film is in theaters, a whole new controversy has taken over. In the movie, there’s a story about two made-up countries,...

James Gunn Hints at When the Larger Dcu Plotline Will Be Revealed, And It's Soon
Image
With Superman now in theaters, fans have begun wondering how the superhero blockbuster connects to the overarching grand plan that James Gunn has for the DC Universe. Luckily, according to Gunn, fans won't have to wait long to see how everything will culminate down the road.

During a recent interview with Screen Rant, Gunn was asked if Krypto might become one of the key players in the Dcu, given how he was used in Superman as a bridge between that movie and the upcoming Supergirl starring Milly Alcock. "Yeah. I don't think it's Krypto's story. I think... I do know whose story it is. And it probably isn't anyone anyone would ever expect," shared Gunn, adding that the character has already been introduced in the Dcu.

I think that if people watch the next season of Peacemaker, they'll see where a lot of these things are going, and have a...

Superman: Sean Gunn Shares A New Behind-The-Scenes Look At His Take On Maxwell Lord
Image
Sean Gunn has taken to Instagram to share a new behind-the-scenes look at his take on Maxwell Lord from Superman.

Gunn only makes a very brief appearance as Lord in his brother James' Dcu reboot towards the end of the movie. After Lex Luthor is arrested, we see the wealthy industrialist being interviewed on TV, and all he has to say is: "The one thing both the left and right can agree on is that Lex Luthor sucks."

We know that Lord funds the trio of Metahumans known as the Justice Gang, but we don't really learn much about him aside from this. Will he turn out to be a villain like his comic book counterpart, or be an unexpected force for good in the Dcu?

Check out Gunn's Lord look below.

What Superman Has In Common With Every Other James Gunn Movie
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Superman."

Some people might fear that with a main character as massive and mainstream as Superman, James Gunn would lose some of the distinctive directorial flair that's made him such a popular director in the horror and comic book movie spaces. But while Gunn's "Superman" is indeed different in some ways from his past work, it's still a Gunn flick through and through.

A look at the "Superman" trailer footage and the cast list alone should give you a decent amount of confidence on that front. While lead stars David Corenswet, Rachel Brosnahan, and Nicholas Hoult aren't part of Gunn's typical recurring roster of actors, the supporting cast is filled with familiar faces. Nathan Fillion, who's been collaborating with the writer/director since "Slither" in 2006, plays Green Lantern Guy Gardner. Other Gunn usuals featured in "Superman" include his brother Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord...

'Superman' Fans Use Dean Cain's Own Words Against Him Following "Immigrant" Comments
Image
For those of a certain generation, Dean Cain will always be Superman. Thanks to his role in the beloved ‘90s series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, Cain will be forever recognized for sporting the familiar “S” emblem, but the actor seems to have strayed far and away from the ideals of the iconic superhero in real-life. Cain recently faced controversy following his response to Superman director James Gunn’s comments in which he called the Man of Steel an “immigrant.” And, while many fans have since taken to social media to disagree with Cain, it turns out that his own depiction of Superman does it best.

“Dean Cain, Superman has Always been woke. Who cares about what you have to say?” said one user on X/Twitter, with another adding, “Every time you think Dean Cain can't cement himself as the worst live action Superman even further,...

Leaked Peacemaker Trailer Reveals An Interdimensional Storyline
Image
A secret Peacemaker preview may have boosted a major theory about how its seasons connect together.

Per GamesRadar, a leaked video on X revealed a new teaser for Peacemaker season 2 right before select Superman premieres, revealing a key detail about this storyline. In between season 2 clips, a voiceover reveals knowledge of "another dimension that's exactly the same as ours," but better, with Peacemaker enthusiastically declaring "best dimension ever" in its final minutes. This seemingly hints at a multiverse explanation for continuing Peacemaker's journey, which began in the Dceu with The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker season 1 but will now continue into the Dcu era with James Gunn's new Superman film.

Earlier this year, Gunn clarified which media exists as canon in Warner Bros.' latest timeline, which doesn't include his first foray into DC, despite Peacemaker being a spinoff of The Suicide Squad. As he explained, only the animated Creature Comandos is "pure canon" pre-Superman,...

‘Superman’ Reading List: 12 Comics to Read After the Movie
Image
It’s been more than 80 years since Superman flew off the pages of “Action Comics #1,” and introduced readers to the then-described “Champion of the Oppressed.” The hero has gone on thousands of adventures since his 1930s debut — “Action Comics” alone celebrated its thousandth issue in 2018.

James Gunn’s “Superman” feels like some of these comics flew off the page, adapting everything beautiful, inspiring and outright goofy about the Man of Steel. If you left “Superman” wanting more, check out some of these stories that inspired the Dcu debut.

This list will have no spoilers for “Superman” (2025). If it wasn’t in a trailer, it won’t be mentioned here.

“All-Star Superman” by Grant Morrison, Frank Quitely

“All-Star Superman” should be thought of as the comic book equivalent of the Christopher Reeve/Richard Donner “Superman” movie: there’s nothing quite like it, and it set an immovable gold standard going forward.

With 3 Simple Words, James Gunn Cranks Up The Hype for Superman 2
Image
Superman has opened to an estimated $123 million at the domestic box office, a strong start for the first DC Universe blockbuster. With critics and audiences responding positively to Superman, writer-director James Gunn, who is also co-ceo of DC Studios, has already offered fans their first hint towards Superman 2.

On Threads, Gunn reshared a message from the official DC account about the "kick-ass" Peacemaker Season 2 panel planned for San Diego Comic-Con 2025, while adding that he considered the upcoming season to be a "follow up to Superman [that] is a little different [than] what one might expect." Gunn previously confirmed that Peacemaker Season 2 was set after, and would acknowledge, the events of Superman, with the first trailer revealing that Isabela Merced, Nathan Fillion, and Sean Gunn are reprising their respective roles as Hawkgirl, Guy Gardner, and Maxwell Lord from the Dcu movie.

James Gunn talks about how a certain cameo appeared in Superman
James Gunn
It’s been nothing but Superman talk on the site all month. And with all the easter eggs and seeds planted for the future of the Dcu, there’s more to unravel in James Gunn’s newest outing with his version of the Man of Steel. Superman opened to a solid $122 million over the weekend (a touch more than we predicted earlier this week). Audiences who have seen the movie no doubt are surprised at a little twist that Gunn worked into the lore, including an uncredited appearance by a familiar face. The rest of the article will include cameo Spoilers, so proceed at your own risk.

While there’s mystery and interpretation surrounding an element that may be controversial, those who have seen Superman know that the Kryptonian birth parents of Kal-El — Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van — do make an appearance in the film. Jor-El and Lara are played by...

Superman Spoilers: Here Is A Full Breakdown Of Every Character Cameo In The First Dcu Movie
Image
Though Superman is a relatively self-contained movie, writer/director James Gunn does include quite a few cameos that could set up future projects in the Dcu.

Most of these characters were either confirmed or rumored to appear in the buildup to the film's release, but there was one surprise that Gunn and co. managed to keep under wraps.

Bradley Cooper as Jor-El and Angela Sarafyan as Lara Lor-Van

The cameos that prove to be most pertinent to this movie's plot are Jor-El (Bradley Cooper) and Lara Lor-Von (Angela Sarafyan), who appear via a holographic message that plays when Krypto brings Supes to the Fortress of Solitude following his defeat at the hands of the Hammer of Boravia.

We learn that the second part of the message was damaged when the infant Kal crashed to Earth, but Lex Luthor and The Engineer manage to decipher the details later on, using the...

James Gunn Reveals How Bradley Cooper Cameo Came About In ‘Superman’
Image
James Gunn’s box-office hit Superman is chock-full of cameos, and there’s one particular collaboration in the film that came about via the DC Studios co-ceo’s past connection to the MCU.

In the opening moments of the David Corenswet superhero vehicle, actors Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan briefly appear as Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, Kal-El’s birth parents, in a voice recording that hints at the grave reason for Superman’s presence on Earth.

The Silver Linings Playbook star’s role is one that was previously filled by the late Marlon Brando in 1978’s Christopher Reeve-starring Superman. Despite being attached to the 1980 sequel, The Godfather actor did not appear in the project due to creative differences and his suit against the film’s producers over profit-sharing; his excised scenes eventually made it into the 2006 restored Richard Donner cut.

Gunn said Cooper came to embody the role because...
