After Resident Evil, Zach Cregger’s One Upcoming Movie Is Spiritual Sequel to the Best Thriller of 2014
Image
After Weapons, Zach Cregger has set up an array of ambitious films, including a Resident Evil adaptation and an original thriller made in the same tone and style as Nightcrawler [Culture Crave]. While the movie is not designed as a direct successor to Jake Gyllenhaal’s 2014 film, it will surely be a spiritual sequel to the cult hit.

The director hasn’t revealed exclusive details about these projects yet, though the fans are invested in seeing what he brings to the table next. Given the success of Weapons at the box office, there is no doubt as to Zach Cregger’s authority over the horror genre. Even so, his Nightcrawler-inspired movie remains the most anticipated of all the projects currently in the pipeline.

Jake Gyllenhaal's The Guilty Is A Remake Of A Much Better Movie Streaming For Free
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

If a movie is going to be mostly close-up reactions of its lead actor, then the actor needs to have an expressive face. Jake Gyllenhaal, who more than fits the bill, faced this challenge in the 2021 thriller "The Guilty," directed by Antoine Fuqua (who used unorthodox filming methods to shoot the movie during the pandemic) and scripted by "True Detective" creator Nic Pizzolatto.

In "The Guilty," Gyllenhaal plays Joe Baylor, a 911 dispatcher in Los Angeles. The film takes place almost entirely during one of his shifts. Joe (who has a haunted past) is pretty dispassionate about his job... at first. Then a woman named Emily (Riley Keough) calls him, claiming that she's being kidnapped. Trying to help her from a distance, Joe discovers the culprit is likely her abusive ex-husband Henry (Peter Sarsgaard), but gradually realizes his assumptions about the...

Why Did Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas Break Up? Camp Rock 3 Possibilities Explored
Image
While Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas have not shared a definite reason behind their breakup, the former couple has reflected on how the challenges of young love, growing apart, and personal struggles drew them apart. After meeting on Camp Rock, Lovato and Jonas became one of the hottest Disney couples at the time, with all eyes on them as they shared not only the screen but also the stage.

However, just a few months after going public with their romance, things fell apart, and the former couple broke up in May 2010. “It could have been better timing,” the Jonas Brothers singer told Teen Vogue, adding that he still cared about the Sorry Not Sorry singer and wanted to continue their friendship.

While they never explicitly revealed the reason for their split, the Heart Attack singer has admitted to being heartbroken after their breakup.

Your Official Rainmaker Prep Kit: 13 Legal Thrillers and Blue Sky Favorites to Get You Courtroom-Ready

You know that little jolt of satisfaction you get when an underdog wipes the smug smile off a corporate villain’s face? That’s The Rainmaker‘s heartbeat.

It’s not just a courtroom drama — it’s scrappy lawyers, big gambles, and emotional haymakers, all wrapped in “how the hell did they pull that off?” energy.

And because it’s coming to USA Network, it’s worth remembering… this network used to own high-stakes, high-entertainment TV. Think Suits, White Collar, Psych — shows that made you care just as much about the characters as the cases.

So if you’re looking for a warm-up before Rudy Baylor and Deck Shifflet hit your screen, here’s your 13-title prep course.

This isn’t homework. This is fun!

Coach Carter Revival on Netflix: Is Samuel L. Jackson’s Sports Drama a True Story?
Image
The 2005 sports drama Coach Carter, starring Samuel L. Jackson, is back in the spotlight, and yes, it’s based on a true story. According to FilxPatrol, the movie surged to No. 6 on Netflix‘s Top 10 Movies chart worldwide. It had surpassed major movies like Gladiator II and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Currently, the Netflix chart is dominated by My Oxford Year, KPop Demon Hunters, and Happy Gilmore 2.

Coach Carter is indeed based on true events. It tells the story of Ken Carter, a real-life high school basketball coach at Richmond High School in Northern California. He became a national figure in 1999 after making a controversial yet principled decision. Carter benched his entire undefeated team and locked the gym until his players improved their GPAs above 2.3.

Although he got backlash from parents, school officials, and the local community but when it made it to national news, it earned him praise from across the country.

Image
Amazon’s highly anticipated sequel to one of its biggest action hits from last year has now added the perfect villain. Starring Academy Award-nominee Jake Gyllenhaal and rebooting the beloved 80s action outing Road House, it has now been confirmed that the upcoming sequel will bring a former MCU star, and real-life fighter, into the fray.

The actor, who is also known for the likes of Blade Runner 2049, Army of the Dead, Knock at the Cabin, and more, as well as his tenure as both a WWE superstar and a stint in Mma, is reportedly “circling” the action movie follow-up, according to Deadline.

Dave Bautista Set To Star In Both Chad Stahelski’s Highlander Reboot And Road House 2 At Amazon
Image
Of all the WWE superstars who've traded the squared circle for the cinematic stage, Dave Bautista is one of the greats. From Guardians Of The Galaxy to Knock At The Cabin, Dune to Glass Onion, and from The Boy And The Heron to The Last Showgirl, the artist formerly known as Batista has left no genre stone unturned in his quest to master a new craft. Now, the born-again thespian has just landed not one, but two major new gigs: a key villain role in Chad Stahelski's Highlander reboot, and a starring slot opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in Road House 2.

Per Deadline's sidebar 'The Dish', Bautista is rapidly closing in on deals to star in both buzzy projects. In Stahelski's long-gestating Highlander — which is set to see Henry Cavill take on the role of MacLeod alongside Russell Crowe's mentor Ramirez and Marisa Abela's mysterious new...

Locking him in for high-profile projects, including the much-anticipated Highlander reboot alongside Henry Cavill and the action-packed Road House 2, the deal sets him up for leading roles in major franchises as he continues to move away from his WWE image.

Known to Marvel fans as Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy, Bautista’s latest career move cements his standing as one of Hollywood’s top action stars with a significant box-office pull. Meanwhile, for Amazon MGM, this move highlights the studio’s ambition to rival the blockbuster slates of Netflix, Disney, and more.

Dave Bautista is reportedly nearing two deals to star in Road House 2 and Henry Cavill’s Highlander reboot
Jake Gyllenhaal
Jake Gyllenhaal could have someone new to punch in the face for Road House 2 if Dave Bautista signs on the dotted line! According to sources close to Deadline, the Dune and Glass Onion star is closing in on deals for two anticipated action films: Road House 2 and Highlander, starring Henry Cavill as the immortal warrior.

Image
Dave Bautista is bringing the 1980s back, one action franchise at a time. He's now set to star in two major revivals of '80s VHS action classics from Amazon MGM Studios. He's said to be close to signing on for Road House 2, the sequel to the Jake Gyllenhaal-led remake of the Patrick Swayze brawler, and will also star in Chad Stahelski's revival of the immortal Highlanderfranchise. Bautista is said to be playing the role of the villainous Kurgan in the latter.

According to reports, Bautista is circling both roles, and is expected to sign both, but has not yet officially put pen to paper. In Road House 2, he'll be joining Gyllenhaal, who starred as UFC fighter turned bouncer Dalton in the Doug Liman-directed remake in 2024. Guy Ritchie was originally set to helm the sequel, but dropped out last month; Ilya Naishuller has stepped in to steer the film.

‘Platonic’ Is Just What You’re Looking for
Image
After many noble but failed attempts, the world will finally, rightly, spend an entire year praising Rose Byrne. That start-to-finish continuity comes with a minor caveat, since the acclaimed performance that kicked off 2025 is the same one likely to see it out, but that’s just the beauty of a Sundance premiere with enough Oscar buzz to command a fall release: The Park City crowd gets to fawn all over “If I Had Legs I’d Kick You” nine months before everyone else can join the chorus.

In a way, 2025’s minor haul and major lift mimic Byrne’s steady rise in the Hollywood ranks. While Ellen Parsons’ senior associates (aka “Damages” fans) have known for nearly two decades there aren’t 12 comparable actors who could form a jury of her peers, it’s taken an expansive repertoire of roles to prime our favorite Aussie actor for her big year. 8 Years Later, Ryan Reynolds' $100 Million Sci-Fi Thriller With Rebecca Ferguson Is a Global Sleeper Hit
Image
It’s been a quiet year for Ryan Reynolds so far after reprising his role as Wade Wilson in Deadpool & Wolverine, but one year after he played the Merc With a Mouth for the first time, he starred in a sci-fi horror film that’s become a hit on streaming charts. Reynolds stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson (Silo), Hiroyuki Sanada (Shōgun), and Jake Gyllenhaal (Presumed Innocent) in Life, the 2017 film following a team of scientists aboard the International Space Station who discover a rapidly evolving Martian predator that must be kept away from Earth. Despite releasing eight years ago, Life is still a hit on global VOD charts, trending in countries such as Nicaragua. The film earned scores of 67% from critics and 55% from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, and it grossed almost exactly $100 million at the box office against a $58 million budget.

Life is, unfortunately, not streaming anywhere in the United States,...

14 Off-Screen Deaths That There’s No Time to Mourn
Image
Whether you’ve got a respected actor who’s taken a position in the Obama administration, or a universally loathed actor who finally quit, a character’s sudden death is a great opportunity to honor or completely debase your coworker.

14 ‘Community’: Pierce Hawthorne

Chevy Chase has been a menace to the cast and crew around him for decades, and Community famously disrespected him by making the character of Pierce reflect the doddering racism of the actor himself. The season after he left the show, it was casually revealed that he died of dehydration while filling up jugs of sperm.

13 ‘Jurassic Park’: Ray Arnold

Samuel L. Jackson played the park’s harried chief engineer, Ray Arnold. Arnold was sent into the danger zone to fulfill his destiny as the It guy — turn the power off and on again — only to disappear under mysterious circumstances. He makes one final appearance...

Image
Brian Tyree Henry is three for three when it comes to Emmy nominations in the major acting categories, having nabbed his first for best guest actor in 2017 for his appearance as the long-lost cousin of Ron Cephas Jones’ William on the NBC drama This Is Us; his second a year later for his supporting actor role as Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles in the FX comedy Atlanta; and now a lead actor nod for his portrayal of Ray Driscoll in Apple TV+’s limited series Dope Thief.

“This is a sexy-ass category,” says Henry of being nominated alongside Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jake Gyllenhaal (Presumed Innocent), Cooper Koch (Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story) and Stephen Graham (Adolescence), to whom he expects to take a graceful L.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Brings In An Avenger (And A Returning Villain) To Join Tom Holland
Image
Each of Tom Holland's Spider-Man movies has had a special guest star Marvel character (as if Spider-Man himself isn't enough to get people to theaters). "Homecoming" had Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), "Far From Home" had Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and "No Way Home" had Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) and previous Spider-Man actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield (plus a slight cameo from Charlie Cox as Daredevil).

The upcoming fourth film, "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" (which just revealed its first eight-second-long teaser) is not changing the team-up formula. The movie will face the challenge of trying to match the scale of "No Way Home" but it'll face this head-on and at worst go down swinging like Peter Parker does. It's already been confirmed that Jon Bernthal will be appearing as the Punisher in the movie, and he's sure to be (at best) an uneasy ally for Spider-Man. Now,...

The Midsommar star, who was recently revealed to be leading Lee Cronin’s upcoming take on The Mummy, will appear in the series opposite Rachel Brosnahan, who is still up in the clouds thanks to the massive success of James Gunn’s Superman. 30 Highest Rated Movies of All Time, Ranked According to Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
There are plenty of movies that deserve to be universally praised. Maybe the casting is flawless, the story hits all the right notes, and the direction is top-tier. Fans walk away loving it, quoting it, rewatching it. But do the critics always agree? Not really. A film can have all the right ingredients and still miss the mark with critics.

Just look at something like Heat with Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, or David Fincher’s Zodiac starring Jake Gyllenhaal. Both are modern classics in the eyes of fans, yet they’re not exactly topping the Rotten Tomatoes charts.

To truly earn a high Rotten Tomatoes score, a movie has to land with both audiences and critics alike. It has to offer something special, whether it’s a bold story, unforgettable characters, or a fresh take that no one saw coming. Some movies do just that, crushing it at...

Anna Chlumsky Shares How 'Veep' Changed Her Political Perspective
Image
Veep ended its run on HBO more than five years ago, but its satirical take on modern American politics feels as timely as ever. Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who earned multiple Primetime Emmy Awards for her showstopping performance as the show's title character, has even said that her deliciously controversial character shares traits with Donald Trump. Alongside the infamous Selina Meyer for virtually all seven seasons was her anxiety-stricken Chief of Staff Amy Brookheimer, played to perfection by Anna Chlumsky. Years after earning child-star status for her acclaimed turn in My Girl (1991), Chlumsky proved she's still a talent to watch with her Emmy-nominated performance on Veep — and it hasn't stopped there.

In addition to leading the hit Netflix series Inventing Anna (2022), Chlumsky can now be spotted in multiple standout episodes of the gritty new series Smoke on Apple TV+. MovieWeb recently caught up with Chlumsky while she was promoting Smoke, and she...

David Fincher's $85M Crime Epic That Still Has Fans Hunting for Clues 18 Years Later Gets a New Streaming Home
Image
David Fincher's Zodiac remains one of Hollywood's most in-depth true crime thrillers. The movie's ending was neither definitive nor cathartic, but it did suggest the prime suspect was the culprit.

True crime fans can revisit Zodiac when it streams on Paramount+ on Aug. 1. It's arguably David Fincher's best film, which recounts the investigation into a series of murders in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1960s. Boasting an all-star ensemble led by Jake Gyllenhaal, Mark Ruffalo, and Robert Downey Jr., Zodiac followed one of the case's many rabbit holes to the very end, which left audiences second-guessing.

The film remained faithful to eyewitness accounts, especially from the surviving victims. The Zodiac killer's true identity was linked to a handful of suspects, but primarily Arthur Leigh Allen (played by John Carroll Lynch), who matched the profile based on circumstantial evidence. At the center of the investigation is San Francisco...

Spider-Man 4's Historic New Villain Breaks a 24-Year Marvel Trend
Image
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is already making waves with its surprising cast list. However, evidence suggests that the 2026 movie is also looking to break a long-running Spider-Man trend with its choice of villain.

According to a casting report, Spider-Man: Brand New Day is looking to feature a female antagonist, marking the first time in the cinematic web-slinger's 24-year history that its big bad won't be male. Casting descriptions describe the groundbreaking female villain as "powerful and imposing," requiring an actress with a "strong and commanding screen presence." Reportedly, Marvel Studios is already in negotiations with a star but has yet to reveal who will join the ranks of Willem Dafoe's quotable Green Goblin, Alfred Molina's iconic Doc Ock, or Jake Gyllenhaal's illusory Mysterio.

Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings Destin Daniel Cretton, Tom Holland's Spider-Man 4 is slated for a July 31, 2026, release.
