Long Before Spider-Man, Sam Raimi Created A Forgotten '90s Superhero Series
Image
Nearly a decade before directing "Spider-Man," Sam Raimi gave the world "M.A.N.T.I.S."

To answer the most burning question right away, "M.A.N.T.I.S." stands for Mechanically Augmented Neuro-Transmitter Interception System. It's the nickname that Dr. Miles Hawkins (Carl Lumbly) gave to the elaborate metal exoskeleton that he strapped around his body to fight crime. Dr. Hawkins had previously been paralyzed from the waist down after being shot in the spine by the police while trying to rescue a child in peril during a riot. He tried to sue the police department, but instead found a racist conspiracy designed to keep the city's Black population oppressed. Moved to justice, Dr. Hawkins invented the M.A.N.T.I.S. exoskeleton to help him walk. The exoskeleton worked better than he could have possibly imagined, though, granting him superhuman strength. He elected to become a bug-inspired superhero, doling out justice and confronting police corruption.

Keanu Reeves Action Thriller 'Point Break' Leaves Netflix Soon
Image
Attention all fans of '90's cinema and off-the-wall action, please take note: Point Break is leaving Netflix on December 1st of this year. The film — which stars Keanu Reeves as FBI agent Johnny Utah and Patrick Swayze as surfer and criminal Bodhi — is essential viewing for anyone who likes action that leaves you at the edge of your seat, and incredibly compelling character dynamics that pull you into a world of thievery done just for the thrill of it.

Rather than simply being a conventional game of cat-and-mouse between cop and robber — such as venerated classics like Michael Mann's Heat — Point Break is groundbreaking in its commitment to entangling Reeves' character Johnny with the mastermind Bodhi. The criminal has an alluring philosophy, one of constantly chasing the ultimate thrill, and it draws the undercover cop into their dangerous lifestyle. The unconventional nature of the two leads' relationship, paired with the stunning action,...

Beginning on Dec. 1, 20th Century Fox’s Point Break movie will officially be available to stream on Paramount+. The story centers around an FBI Agent who goes undercover to infiltrate a group of surfers, who are suspected to be involved in a recent string of bank robberies. Leading the surfers is the charismatic Bodhi, who likes living on the edge. However, while doing the mission, Johnny develops a complex friendship with Bodhi, leading him to get drawn into their lifestyle and philosophies. To make matters difficult, Johnny also unexpectedly falls in love with a female surfer, who’s close to the gang.

Expert Bank Robber Gives Perfect Score to Keanu Reeves’ Popular Heist Movie, Point Break
Image
Keanu Reeves is an action genre icon, known for his roles in John Wick, Speed, and Point Break directed by Kathryn Bigelow. Point Break follows FBI agent Jonny Utah as he infiltrates a gang of surf-loving robbers, led by Bodhi, who influences Jonny's way of life. It also involves a love interest named Tyler. The movie received a 10 out of 10 rating from a former bank robber who praised its realistic portrayal of a robbery scene, emphasizing the importance of maintaining control and avoiding actions that would alert potential witnesses.

Keanu Reeves has become an icon within the action genre by playing John Wick, but the actor was already a huge star thanks to some other major titles such as Speed or Point Break, the 1991 classic directed by Academy Award-winner Kathryn Bigelow, which he starred in with Patrick Swayze.

The story follows Jonny Utah, an FBI agent with a complicated past.

RoboCop 2
It’s ugly, it’s violent, it’s graphic novelist Frank Miller’s nasty vision through and through. Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition brings out the amazing backstory of the production of this stop-motion- intensive first sequel to RoboCop. Druglord Caine is a menace, but we’re just as appalled by the film’s vivid depiction of a greater terror: Predatory Privatization.

Twin Peaks (1990)
'Twin Peaks' cast list: 11 major omissions, from Lara Flynn Boyle to Heather Graham
Twin Peaks (1990)
What a way to start off the week! The formidable cast list for Showtime's forthcoming Twin Peaks revival series was revealed this morning, and man, is it a doozy. In addition to boasting such key returning players as Kyle MacLachlan (Dale Cooper), Sheryl Lee (Laura Palmer/Maddy Ferguson) and Sherilyn Fenn (Audrey Horne), there are a number of surprising A-listers in the mix including Michael Cera, Trent Reznor, Amanda Seyfried and Naomi Watts. On the downside, a not-insignificant number of cast members from both the original series and the 1992 prequel film Fire Walk with Me are completely absent from the list. Where, for instance, is Lara Flynn Boyle (or Moira Kelly, for that matter)? Michael Ontkean? Piper Laurie? Joan Chen? Anyone from the mill? (Literally, there is no one from the mill.) So while I'm thankful that most of the major players are back in action, I can't help but...
