The BBC and Zdf are teaming up to co-produce a “flirty,” darkly comic spy drama set in 1980s Berlin and created by Emma Moran, who wrote Disney+ series Extraordinary.

Announced to coincide with Series Mania in Lille, Honey will be made by Killing Eve producer Sid Gentle Films. The six-part series is produced in association with Fifth Season.

U.K. network BBC and German broadcaster Zdf have teamed up to order darkly comedic Cold War thriller “Honey,” described as “tender and flirty, slick and dangerous,” from Sally Woodward Gentle’s Sid Gentle Films, best known for “Killing Eve.” Fifth Season is handling global distribution.

The six-part series, which goes undercover in 1980s East Berlin to explore a shadowy world of counter espionage and risky but irresistible relations, is written by Emma Moran. Moran is the writer of Disney+ comedy series “Extraordinary,” nominated for three BAFTAs, and Netflix’s drama “How to Kill Your Family,” starring Anya Taylor-Joy, and inspired by Bella Mackie’s 2021 novel.

Los Angeles, March 22 (Ians) Actor Eddie Redmayne has been cast in ‘The Day of the Jackal’, an upcoming reimagining of Frederick Forsyth’s novel and the film of the same name.

He will also executive produce the thriller series.

Redmayne will play the Jackal, who is hired by the Oas, a French dissident organisation, to kill then-president of France Charles de Gaulle, reports ‘Variety’.

Redmayne recently starred opposite Jessica Chastain in Netflix’s ‘The Good Nurse’.

He is also known for playing Stephen Hawking in James Marsh’s 2014 biopic ‘The Theory of Everything’, which earned him the Oscar for best actor.

A TV series adaptation of Frederick Forsyth’s thriller novel “The Day of the Jackal” has been ordered by Peacock and Sky, it was announced Thursday.

First published in 1971, the original “The Day of the Jackal” novel is set in 1963, the year the president of France, Charles de Gaulle, granted Algeria its independence. The move resulted in several assassination attempts on his life, mostly from the far-right Organisation de L’Armée Secrète (Oas). The novel focuses on a fictional Oas plot to kill de Gaulle via a mysterious foreign assassin with the codename “The Jackal.” Meanwhile, the French government gets wind of the plot and hires Deputy Commissioner Claude Lebel to find and capture the assassin. The novel was well received upon publication, and Forsyth received an Edgar Award for Best Novel from the Mystery Writers of America in 1972.

Director, producer and screenwriter Michael Laughlin, whose credits include Two-Lane Blacktop, Town & Country and Strange Behavior, died on October 20th at the age of 82.

Laughlin succumbed to complications related to Covid-19 and passed in his residence in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Michael Stoddard Laughlin was born in 1938 and brought up in Minonk, Illinois. Laughlin played basketball at Stanford University, later graduating from Principia College in 1960.

Shortly after, he moved to London where he started his career as a film producer. He worked on projects like The Whispers and 1968’s Joanna directed by Michael Sarne. Laughlin married French actress Leslie Caron during his time in Europe. They divorced in 1980.

In the ’70s, Laughlin helped produce the Monte Hellman-directed cult classic Two-Lane Blacktop, starring James Taylor. In 2012, the Library of Congress selected the film for preservation in the United States National Film Registry as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

AMC Networks’ streaming service Acorn TV has acquired exclusive U.S. and Canadian rights to BBC One crime thriller series “Bloodlands” from Hat Trick International and executive producer Jed Mercurio.

James Nesbitt has been cast as the lead in new BBC One detective drama Bloodlands, which represents the first commission for Bodyguard creator Jed Mercurio’s production company.

Dubbed an “Irish noir,” Nesbitt will play Northern Irish police detective Tom Brannick who connects a suicide note with an infamous cold case with enormous personal significance. The discovery sparks an explosive hunt for a legendary assassin.

Bloodlands is written by newcomer Chris Brandon, who has only penned a handful of episodes of TV3’s Irish police drama Red Rock, and is Hat Trick Mercurio Television’s debut commission.

Hmt Television was set up in 2015 and is co-owned by Mercurio and Hat Trick Productions, the Jimmy Mulville-run indie behind shows including Have I Got News For You and Matt LeBlanc’s Golden Globe-winning Episodes.

Mercurio, Mulville and Mark Redhead are the executive producers for Htm, while Tommy Bulfin will executive produce for the BBC.

As they began preparing “The Trip to Greece,” the fourth installment in Michael Winterbottom’s acclaimed comedy franchise starring Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, the creative team returned to the time-tested formula that made the previous three chapters so successful: a combination of food, wanderlust and the comedians’ impeccable improv skills.

Gregg Araki’s The Doom Generation (1995) is an intelligent and satirical look at American youth culture and its relationship with the media. Jordan White (James Duval) and Amy Blue (McGowan) , two troubled teens, pick up an adolescent drifter, Xavier Red (Johnathon Schaech). Together, the threesome embark on a sex and violence-filled journey through an America of psychos and quickiemarts.

The Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman died at the age of 52 last Wednesday. The autopsy revealed that the cause of death was ruled suicide by hanging, though his wife has called the ruling into question.

Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell was cremated in Los Angeles on Tuesday, the singer's attorney, Kirk Pasich, tells Et.

Cornell, who died following a Detroit, Michigan, concert on May 17, will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery on May 26. The public is welcome to visit the late singer's gravesite after 3 p.m. on Friday, after the private service concludes.

Pasich also tells Et that the grunge icon's wife, Vicky Cornell, is doing her best to deal with his death. The couple had been married since 2004 and shared two children together, 12-year-old daughter Toni and 11-year-old son Christopher.

After the 52-year-old Soundgarden singer was found dead in a hotel room in Detroit, Michigan, following the band's concert on Wednesday night, a source told E! News that Pitt is "devastated and in shock" over the news. Cornell's death comes just a few days after the death of one of Pitt's other friends, former Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey.

Eric Binford, the protagonist (antagonist?) of Fade to Black (1980), loves movies so much, he is wholly subsumed by them. When not working in a Los Angeles film distribution center delivering prints to various locations, his life revolves around watching films on a projector in his room, or on TV, or reluctantly sharing a film at the theater with a crowd. Eric, played by Breaking Away’s Dennis Christopher, has no need for human interaction—the shadowy figures in the flickering lights are his only allies.

For those unfamiliar with Fade, it tells the simple tale of a lonely young man with an already tenuous grip on reality whose overwhelming passion for film leads him down a vengeful path of retribution against those who’ve wronged him. Dressing up as his favorite characters from filmdom (Dracula, The Mummy, Hopalong Cassidy, Cody Jarrett), Eric lays to waste those who come between him and his celluloid dreams.

Closet Monster (Stephen Dunn)

Writer/director Stephen Dunn’s feature debut Closet Monster cares little about convention to tell the story of Oscar Madly (Connor Jessup) growing up with a psychological revulsion to his sexual urges, all thanks to an extremely disturbing event witnessed as a child. This prologue glimpse at his youth (played by Jack Fulton) is a mash-up of tough coming-of-age-dramatics and a dark-edged imaginative whimsy that intrigues to draw you closer.
