“It made me really want to do it”: Mark Hamill Was Desperate to be in One Show Because Star Wars Co-Star Carrie Fisher Was “Great” on it
Image
Actor Mark Hamill made a name for himself with his performance as Luke Skywalker in the space opera franchise Star Wars. Hamill starred in the original trilogy alongside Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford. However, among the holy trinity of the Star Wars franchise, only the late Fisher has had the honor of hosting the popular variety comedy series Saturday Night Live.

Star Wars star Mark Hamill reveals desire to host Saturday Night Live.

During an interview, Hamill spoke about his desire to host the show that has been on air for almost four decades. Hamill revealed that his desire to host the show stemmed from Fisher’s great performance during her hosting stint. At the same time, Hamill also spoke about returning to the Star Wars franchise after the demise of his character in the sequel trilogy. Here is what Hamill had to say about his desire to host Saturday Night Live.

Recasting Luke Skywalker For The Heir To The Empire Movie: 10 Actors Who Could Succesfully Replace Mark Hamill
Image
Recasting beloved actor Mark Hamill in the role of Luke Skywalker for future Star Wars titles is no easy task. Star Wars has been reluctant to recast the original trilogy stars, with Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy insisting Solo: A Star Wars Story taught the studio not to recast original trilogy characters. "I don’t think we would intentionally just look back at some of the characters like Luke and Leia and whatnot and decide arbitrarily to do a story," Kennedy explained at Star Wars Celebration 2022. "There would have to be a really strong reason why."

It increasingly feels as though events have provided this "really strong reason." Ahsoka has set up Grand Admiral Thrawn as a massive Star Wars villain in the period between the original trilogy and the sequels, and it seems inevitable classic heroes like Luke Skywalker and Leia Organa will help against the resurgent Empire. Given that's the case,...

Star Wars Needs to Solve Its Uncanny CGI Problem

This Star Wars: Ahsoka article contains spoilers.

Imagine you’re watching an emotional reunion between characters who haven’t seen each other in years. It’s a reunion you’ve been expecting, but nonetheless you still can’t believe it’s happening. However, as you try to connect with the characters and feel what they’re feeling in this moment, you’re distracted by yet another uncanny computer generated face on the body of a real life actor. This is the experience that many people, including myself, had watching episode 4 of Ahsoka and the reunion between Ahsoka and Anakin in the World Between Worlds.

Anticipation for the characters’ reunion has been building since Hayden Christensen’s return was first revealed. The last time that Ahsoka saw her former master was on the Sith planet of Malachor in Star Wars: Rebels, the two locked in a deadly duel. So to see...

Mark Hamill Reveals How to Do His Iconic Joker Laugh
Image
Mark Hamill recently offered his advice for anyone trying to recreate his iconic Joker laugh from Batman: The Animated Series.

Hamill recently sat down for Wired's Autocomplete Interview series. The actor, who voiced the Clown Prince of Crime in the DC Animated Universe, was asked how he does the character's distinct evil laugh. Hamill joked that he's constantly asked to do the laugh by fans wherever he goes. "Well, first of all you have to warm up," Hamill said. "It's like a car engine. If you just rip, it'll hurt your throat. And plus, there's no subtle way to do it. So I'm standing in Toys 'R' Us laughing maniacally and people are like, casting me weird looks, like 'What's that old man doing to that 10 year-old kid?' But I do get asked to do it a lot."

Why Mark Hamill Would Still Host SNL Despite Never Being Asked
Image
Original Star Wars star and Hollywood icon Mark Hamill opened up about a potential turn at hosting Saturday Night Live.

In an interview with Esquire, Hamill discussed how he has yet to host an episode of the long-running late-night sketch show and addressed whether he'd be up for it. "Let me tell you about SNL," Hamill said. "Carrie [Fisher] did it back in the day with the original cast. I was over the moon because it was my favorite show, Carrie was great on it, and it made me really want to do it." He further explained that hosting duties on the show are not something any public figure seeks out from their own end of things.

Star Wars: Mark Hamill Supports Recasting Luke Skywalker for Future Series
Image
Mark Hamill shared that he supports casting a younger actor for the role of Luke Skywalker for future Star Wars projects.

In a recent interview with Esquire, Hamill explained that, after The Last Jedi, he did not expect to make any more appearances as the blue-eyed farm-boy-turned-hero. However, he was convinced when he watched The Mandalorian, noting that he "was very impressed with it." Hamill has appeared, to great audience appreciation, as his younger self in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett thanks to de-aging technology, AI voice simulation, and look-alike actor Graham Hamilton. As fans clamored for more such appearances, the actor said that the process was "unusual" and expensive. "People say, 'Oh, now you're going to be able to do a whole series of Luke post-Return of the Jedi.' I said, 'I don't think so.' First of all, they don't need to tell those stories,...

Obi-Wan Kenobi's Anakin Flashback Showed De-Aging Isn’t Always the Answer
Image
De-aging technology has taken over the film and television industries with the idea of actors playing their younger selves almost having become a gimmick in Hollywood productions. Star Wars projects have been at the forefront of this amazing advance in technology for almost a decade, yet in more recent years it feels as if Lucasfilm is beginning to rely too heavily on de-aging, at the expense of the final product.

However, Obi-Wan Kenobi didn't rely upon this technology for flashback sequences that involve Clone Wars-era Obi-Wan and Anakin Skywalker. That's despite actors Ewan McGegor and Hayden Christensen being 20 years older. The result proves de-aging isn't always the answer. There are other ways to achieve a picture of youth, without an actor resembling a video-game character.

Star Wars: The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 5 Easter Eggs Explained
Image
This Star Wars: The Mandalorian article contains spoilers.

The Mandalorian season 3 kicks things into high gear with “The Pirate.” Gorian Shard wants to take Nevarro for himself but seriously underestimates Greef Karga’s connections. When Din, Bo-Katan, and the rest of the Mandalorians show up to kick the pirates out of town, all hell breaks loose in the skies above the city as well as on the ground. The Armorer smashes a few faces in with her hammer while Paz lays down the law with his gatling blaster, with air support from Din and Bo. By the end of the episode, Gorian has nowhere to go but down.

Unsurprisingly, the lead up and the battle itself cue up quite a few callbacks and references to other Star Wars stories, including a few cameos that should get fans excited for the future of the Mandoverse! Here are all the easter eggs...

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 7 Review – From Unknown Graves

This review of The Orville: New Horizons contains spoilers.

The Orville: New Horizons Season 3 Episode 7

Creator and showrunner Seth MacFarlane is seizing every opportunity with the third season of The Orville. This Hulu streaming renaissance has already proved itself to be the show’s most mature, poignant, and character-driven season to date.

One needs to look no further than the title of this episode to see one of its central messages. “From Unknown Graves” is a line from “The Witnesses,” a poem written in the 19th century by Henry Wadworth Longfellow which outlines the crimes committed in America against slaves.

The central story (as there are many threads within this episode) opens on a gray-alien suburban street. There are two children who are excited when they spot their father’s car pulling into the driveway, asking if he finally brought some coveted gift home to them. The father pushes a...

‘The Book Of Boba Fett’: New Images Prove Mark Hamill Worked On Luke Skywalker Cameo Scenes
Image
Originally, when Luke Skywalker made an appearance at the end of “The Mandalorian” season two finale he was played by actor Mark Hamill with digital alterations to de-age to a post-“Star Wars: Return of The Jedi” version of the Jedi hero. However, the look of the character was unsettling. It appeared Lucasfilm had figured out how to fix some of those issues when Skywalker made his triumphant return in an episode of “The Book of Boba Fett,” where it seemed that the on-set performance was completely replaced by body double actor Graham Hamilton and Hamill wasn’t involved.

Say what you will about the overall quality of The Book of Boba Fett, there’s absolutely no doubt that it’s leaning heavily on fan service in its final episodes. Tons of easter eggs, callbacks to famous Star Wars moments, and a whopping number of character cameos have turned this show into yet another major streaming event for Disney+. In fact, chapter 6, “From the Desert Comes a Stranger,” takes the kitchen sink approach to big cameos. Suddenly, Everyone is in The Book of Boba Fett.

Here’s a breakdown of all the characters who were re-introduced in the episode and what you need to know about the actors who play them:

How "Book of Boba Fett" Brought Back the Young Version of This Major "Star Wars" Character
Image
Luke Skywalker made a surprising and epic return to "Star Wars" in the season two finale of "The Mandalorian," but it seemed unlikely that we'd see him reappear. Never count a Jedi out, though! Episode six of "The Book of Boba Fett" takes a detour from the adventures of Boba Fett and Fennec Shand and, instead, catches up with our favorite padawan, Grogu - and his Jedi master, Luke Skywalker, in the exact likeness of a young Mark Hamill, is right there, too. Of course, Mark Hamill is now 70 years old, so who played him in "The Book of Boba Fett"? How did the show pull off this trick of de-aging?

The end credits of the episode give us a pretty good idea of how things went down. Mark Hamill is listed in the credits, with his name appearing over the concept art illustration of Luke and Grogu. Also in the credits,...

In fact, Din Djarin encounters much of his supporting cast from The Mandalorian in “From the Desert Comes a Stranger,” while on his quest to deliver a gift to Grogu. Why I believe ‘Unbelievable’s’ Toni Collette shouldn’t be counted out for the Emmy
Image
Nominated for Best Limited Series/TV Movie Supporting Actress for Netflix’s “Unbelievable” at the Emmys, Toni Collette led our odds during Phase 1, but she is now in second place for the win after her co-stars Kaitlyn Dever and Merritt Wever were egregiously left out of the lead actress lineup. “Watchmen’s” Jean Smart is out in front after the HBO series racked up 26 nominations, while three “Mrs. America” gals — Uzo Aduba, Margo Martindale and Tracey Ullman — and “Hollywood’s” Holland Taylor trail Collette in that order. The actress previously earned three Emmy citations, her first for “Tsunami: The Aftermath” in this very category in 2007 and her other two for “United States of Tara” in Best Comedy Actress in 2009 — which she won — and ’10. Here’s why I believe she can collect her second Emmy for “Unbelievable.”

For her turn as Grace Rasmussen — a Colorado detective who teams up with fellow...
