Few American animated shows have had the depth and breadth of the long-running Adult Swim series "The Venture Bros." The series, created by Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer, started as a riff on old Hanna Barbera shows like "Johnny Quest," following adult super-scientist Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture (James Urbaniak) as he tries to escape the shadow of his genius father and child stardom as a boy adventurer. Along with his bodyguard, the turbo-competent Brock Samson (Patrick Warburton), he's also trying to raise his sons, Hank (Chris McCulloch) and Dean (Michael Sinterniklaas), who are hilariously earnest and sweet and disaster-prone. They faced off against Rusty's nemesis, the Monarch (McCulloch), along with various other villains from the Guild of Calamitous Intent, for seven seasons before being pretty abruptly cancelled, leaving them with a pretty unsatisfying ending.
In an interview with NPR, Hammer shared his feelings on the "ending" they were left with following the cancellation,...

The Venture Bros. co-creator Jackson Publick denies rumors that a renewal is his decision.
In an October 15 post on X, Publick responded to claims that the Titmouse productions' Nycc panel, "Titmouse Inc. - We Make Cartoons!," had put the onus of a The Venture Bros. renewal on the shoulders of Publick and his fellow co-creator Doc Hammer. Publick stated simply, "If any word of this was true, we'd be making The Venture Bros. right now, and probably would have been at Nycc to say so."

The Venture Bros. received a feature-length finale that tied up loose ends and pleased fans, leaving them wanting more. The movie provided satisfying endings for each character, showcasing their growth and personal arcs. Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart captured the essence of superhero stories by focusing on emotional struggles rather than epic showdowns, making it the perfect place to end the series.
Although Adult Swim sadly canceled it, The Venture Bros. was thankfully given the chance to end properly. Instead of an eighth season, The Venture Bros. got a feature-length finale in Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart. The movie was well-received by critics, and especially by fans of the cult favorite. The movie left fans wanting and hoping for more, even if it was as concrete a finale could be.

When it comes to adult cartoons and superhero shows, The Venture Bros. (created by Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer) has one of the biggest and most creative cast of superheroes, supervillains, and civilians ever seen. As such, every character had a unique voice and manner of speaking. It's because of the characters' distinct voices and word choices that it was easy to mistakenly think that the highly-acclaimed Adult Swim superhero satire hired more voice actors than it really did.
In truth, many of The Venture Bros.' most important characters were voiced by the same three actors. The rest were split among guest actors, who only needed to show for at least one episode per season. This didn't diminish the quality of The Venture Bros. as a series and finale movie (Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart), but it could be confusing to figure out where exactly an actor performed.

Taking something off of a streaming platform is constantly confusing for the general public because why does anything have to leave in the first place? But they do and now it seems like The Venture Bros. will be leaving Max in August and the creator of the series himself didn't even know it was happening. Christopher McCulloch, who co-created the series with Doc Hammer, took to Twitter under his pseudonym "Jackson Publick" and responded to a viral tweet about the series. In it, there is a screenshot from IMdB that says the entire series will be leaving Max by August 12.

So rarely do modern audiences get to experience a “cult classic” film or television show anymore. The internet has seen to that. Even independent films that 20-30 years ago would have to rely on word of mouth or for the local Blockbuster to run out of copies to create any kind of buzz now get thousands of people sharing their thoughts about it within online forums.
It is with no sense of irony that The Venture Bros. is perhaps one of the last cult classics. The animated series is one of the veterans of Cartoon Network’s original Adult Swim line of shows, and throughout the last two decades has clawed its way to survive seven seasons and stave off cancellation. “It’s like a job trying to follow this nonsense.”
How does one say goodbye after 20 years? That’s the lofty task that The Venture Bros. faces with this concluding movie-length finale, Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, and it does so with nerdy, passionate grace. The Venture Bros. has produced seven seasons, but it made its Adult Swim premiere back in 2003 when the then-fledgling network only had five original programs to its name and superhero parodies were niche, not the new normal. Now, it celebrates its swan song during a time when most people will view this series finale feature film on Max, sandwiched between endless superhero content. While The Venture Bros.: Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart may mark the end of the beloved animated series. Creator Doc Hammer still has plenty of ideas he'd love to explore.
Per ComicBook, the long time writer and voice actor admitted that while the end is nigh for his characters, he could see them living on for plenty of more misadventures. "We will never not have more stories to tell in this universe, but this is a pretty good ending if this needs to be the end," Hammer said. "We were never shooting toward a specific ending, but every day I have dumb things for Hank to say. Either this will never end or we're not over this 20 year marriage." The creator goes on to say that Venture Bros. is "so fundamental" to who he is as a person that letting it end was a major challenge.

Two years after its announcement and five years since the original series concluded, The Venture Bros. movie receives an exciting update. The Venture Bros. is an animated Adult Swim series and spoof of Jonny Quest. Despite receiving critical acclaim during its run, the series was abruptly canceled after seven seasons, ending in 2018. While a film was confirmed to be in development in 2021 to give the show a proper finale, the 2022 Warner Bros. Discovery merger led to fears that The Venture Bros. movie would never happen.

Nearly five years after the show originally ended, the first The Venture Bros. movie image has arrived revealing Brock's return. Inspired by such '60s Saturday morning cartoons as Jonny Quest, and created by Jackson Publick and co-written by Doc Hammer, the Adult Swim series centered on the eponymous family of adventurers as they venture around the globe and combat with a variety of threats, including the bizarre supervillain The Monarch. After seven acclaimed seasons, The Venture Bros. was cancelled by Adult Swim, though was swiftly confirmed to have a film continuation in the works.

Venture Bros. co-creator Doc Hammer shares an update on the current stage of the movie's production after a long period of silence about the fate of the film continuation. The Adult Swim animated comedy series ran for seven seasons from 2004 to 2018, chronicling the misadventures of the Venture Family as they faced absurd supervillains and other comic-inspired foes. While the series was canceled in September 2020 almost 2 years since the last full season aired, a direct-to-video film continuation was announced in May 2021 that would act as a finale when it airs on Adult Swim and HBO Max.
Almost eight months after returning Venture Bros. voice actor Patrick Warburton updated viewers on the film's progress, series co-creator Hammer offered a behind-the-scenes update through his personal Instagram account.

With the upcoming release of The Venture Bros. Season 7 on Blu-Ray and DVD, we talk the show's past and future with its creators.
The Venture Bros. may dress itself up as a silly cartoon about costumed heroes, villains, super scientists, and all sorts of ridiculous magic, but over the course of its seven seasons it’s grown into one of the most mature animated programs on television.
The series’ sense of storytelling and its cast of characters has grown larger and more ambitious with each new season, but The Venture Bros.’ latest season is arguably its best yet. It finds a way to pay respect to many of the show’s longest running mysteries, while also re-inventing the show and its dynamics in new and exciting ways. It’s a rare, exciting quality when a show can hit a stride and find new life seven seasons into its run,...

The episodes of “The Venture Bros.” that always seem the most ridiculous are the ones that could probably be called the most meaningful.
Take “The Bellicose Proxy,” in which the show once again dives deep into the idea of a highly regulated bureaucracy of secret agents, supervillains, mitigated collateral damage and a whole lot of rules — and actually manages to offer up a vision of a world working in a way you can’t help but wish the real world did.
The episode finds Augustus St. Cloud (Christopher McCulloch) about to begin officially “arching” his nemeses, Billy Quizboy (Doc Hammer) and the Pink Pilgrim Aka Pete White (McCulloch) — they’ve fought before, but now it’s sanctioned by the organizations that oversee superhero and supervillain conflicts. All the while, Dr. Mrs. The Monarch (Hammer) helps turn a double agent, by promising to help him reconcile with his estranged girlfriend, and...

The last two episodes of “The Venture Bros.” have set a new tone for the show’s seventh season. As always, the series is all about fathers, but this season is specifically about moving out of their shadows… and maybe killing them.
Two weeks ago, Adult Swim’s “The Venture Bros.” completed a three-episode arc that it described (after it started) as “The Morpho Trilogy.” The episodes wrapped up the events of Season 6, in which the Monarch (Christopher McCulloch) took on the role of the anti-hero Blue Morpho and started killing rival supervillains. The trilogy also dealt with a bunch of history and lore Season 6 introduced and teased — like the identity of the original Blue Morpho (Paul F. Tompkins), who turned out to be the Monarch’s father, and what ultimately happened to Jonas Venture Sr. (Paul Boocock), the father of series protagonist Rusty Venture (James Urbaniak), who supposedly died years earlier.

The first season of “The Venture Bros.” contained a lot of what felt like throwaway jokes, like the legendary story of “Movie Night,” a frightening tale of murder on the space station Gargantua-1, and the “Phantom Spaceman” responsible. But six seasons later — as happens often on “The Venture Bros.” — series creators Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer have brought back that seemingly throwaway joke and turned it into a deeper piece of lore.
Back in Season 1, the tale of Movie Night seemed like a dumb ghost story to get the show’s titular Venture brothers, Hank (Jackson Public) and Dean (Michael Sinterniklaas), to solve a made-up mystery in the vein of the characters they were parodying. Built by the brothers’ grandfather, Dr. Jonas Venture Sr. when Hank and Dean’s father, Rusty (James Urbaniak) was a kid, Gargantua-...

Season 6 of “The Venture Bros.” saw a major shakeup, as the Venture clan moved to New York City and the Monarch was busted down to the bottom levels of villainy. Probably the biggest change, though, was the Monarch taking on the mantle of a supposed good guy — the Blue Morpho.
In Season 6, the Monarch (voiced by “The Venture Bros.” co-creator Jackson Publick) once again found himself unable to “arch” — that is, professionally perform supervillainy against — his hated nemesis, Dr. Rusty Venture (James Urbaniak). Thanks to some unfortunate events back in Season 5 and politics in the professional supervillain governing body known as the Guild of Calamitous Intent, new villains started arching Venture, and the Monarch was stuck clawing his way back up the Guild ranks.
At the same time, the Monarch discovered that the home of his long-dead...

The start of Season 7 of “The Venture Bros.” builds out yet another wing of the show’s ever-growing mythos. The big twist at the start of the season was a resurrection of a character who has cast a shadow over the entire 14-year run of the show.
Almost two years after the start of Season 6 of Adult Swim’s animated series satirizing, deconstructing and analyzing pop culture ranging from superheroes to Saturday morning cartoons, “The Venture Bros.” is back — and it’s (seemingly) finally, actually making a story move it has teased fans with over and over again. Like the comics and cartoons it goofs on that are full of once-dead characters returning from the grave, “The Venture Bros.” is finally bringing back Dr. Jonas Venture Sr., at least in some form.
