Heavy-hitter Marike Muselaers, VP international financing & co-production for the Scandi group Nordisk Film Production, has unveiled a solid slate of premium series, as its co-production “The Institute” is being pitched at Series Mania CoPro Pitching on Tuesday.

From Denmark, the four-parter “Snake Killer” is the first Prime Video Danish Original series, co-produced by Amazon MGM Studios, which holds first window rights in the Nordics. Anders Ølholm, credited for the hit thriller “Enforcement” (“Shorta”), is making his serialised debut as creator-helmer. In this crime show, toplining Pilou Asbæk, the story turns on Copenhagen’s mobile drug squad (Uropatruljen). A rogue cop, notorious for breaking the law to uphold it, rages war against a mysterious crime family after one of his informants is brutally killed.

The series illustrates Nordisk Film Production’s ambitions and unique leveraging power in a competitive market where financing decisions are back in the hands of producers, away from cash-shy broadcasters or streamers.

Jenny Lund Madsen created the show and Jesper W. Nielsen (Borgen) directs.

TrustNordisk has boarded international sales for Danish crime series Off The Record, which is a fictional story about a group of journalists at a highly respected documentary show who unravel a story of injustice and abuse of power.

Nordisk Film Series’ Camilla Hammerich and Trin Hjortkjær Thomsen produce the series, which has six episodes in this first season.

Jenny Lund Madsen created the show and Jesper W. Nielsen (Borgen) directs.

The cast features Mille Dinesen, Afshin Firouzi, Søren Malling, Lila Nobel Mehabil, Clint Ruben and Johanne Milland Pedersen.

Cannes — Studiocanal, Europe’s biggest TV-film production-distribution-sales company, owned by Vivendi’s Canal Plus Group, has closed international sales on Danish family relationship drama “Ride Upon the Storm,” a flagship title in Studiocanal’s drive into high-end European drama series.

Adam Price’s follow-up to “Borgen,” “Ride Upon the Storm,” starring Lars Mikkelsen (“House of Cards”), has been acquired by a broad gamut of TV operators from South African pay TV network M-Net Africa, to public broadcasters such as Tvnz for New Zealand and Rte Eire, as well as Sbs Australia, which has a strong line in foreign-language series.

Further buyers include Lumière Benelux, Rtvs Slovakia, Nc+ in Poland; and Lrt Lithuania. Studiocanal sold the drama to Telefonica’s Movistar + in Spain; upscale European broadcaster Arte has rights to French and German-speaking Europe. Danish pubcaster Dr, which lead-produced the drama with Arte France and Sam le Français, aired “Ride Upon the Storm” from September.

‘Ride Upon The Storm’

Adam Price, writer of Danish TV series Ride Upon the Storm (Herrens veje), won the 2018 Nordisk Film & TV Fond Prize, worth $25,000 (Sek 200,000).

The second annual award, for outstanding writing of a Nordic drama series, funded by Nordisk Film & TV Fond, was revealed tonight at the Goteborg Film Festival.

The character-driven centres on a family of priests that traces its roots back more than 250 years.

The jury included Swedish actress Sofia Helin (The Bridge); Walter Iuzzolino, the UK-based TV executive and curator of streaming service Walter Presents; and Finnish journalist Kirpi Uimonen Ballesteros.

In its June round of funding, Nordisk Film & TV Fond supported seven new projects, including its largest ever production grant for a documentary, $118,000 (Nok 1m), to Mads Brügger’s [pictured] Cold Case Dag Hammerskjöld.

The Danish documentary is produced by Peter Engel of Wingman Media, in co-production with Norway’s Piraya Film, Sweden’s Laika Film and Belgium’s Associate Producers. Again with his unique style also on camera The Ambassador director Brugger reopens the case of legendary former Un Secretary Dag Hammarskjöld who died in a plane crash in Northern Rhodesia in 1961.

Dr handles world sales on the film, which will be delivered in 2017.

Four major Scandinavian TV series have made big critical and commercial impacts overseas - "The Killing," "The Bridge," "Wallander" and "Borgen". The first three have since seen remakes of generally lesser quality by AMC, FX and The BBC respectively.

Now, HBO has negotiated a deal with BBC Worldwide to create an American version of the fourth. Camilla Hammerich, the producer of the Danish TV political drama "Borgen," revealed the news though says that nothing has been formally announced at this point.

The original "Borgen" tells the fictional story of the European country's first female Prime Minister. Hammerich says: "I've seen an idea of how they can do it and I think it will work. The producer of hit Danish TV political drama Borgen has weighed in on the show’s upcoming HBO remake. Speaking on the sidelines of Dublin's Digital Biscuit conference, which concludes on Friday, Camilla Hammerich said that, while nothing had been formally announced yet, HBO had negotiated a deal with BBC Worldwide, who would be producing the series. "I just hope they start making it," she said, adding that although U.S. politics might differ widely from that in Denmark, she was confident Borgen -- which tells the fictional story of the European country's first female Prime Minister -- would transfer well. Dominic West, Emily Watson and Monica Dolan won acting awards at the TV BAFTAs today for their roles in Appropriate Adult, a miniseries about Britain’s controversial investigation of serial killer Fred West and his wife Rosemary. Dominic West played Fred, Watson portrayed a social worker in the case and Dolan played Rosemary — beating Dame Maggie Smith who was nominated for Downton Abbey. Andrew Scott was voted best supporting actor for Sherlock, in which he plays the arch-nemesis Moriarty to Benedict Cumberbatch’s Sherlock Holmes. Cumberbash was nominated for best actor but lost to Dominic West. But Appropriate Adult lost to another miniseries, This Is England ’88. The British Academy of Film and Television Arts announced Tuesday (April 24) the nominations for its 2012 television awards. British miniseries "Appropriate Adult," which chronicles the real-life serial killer Fred West, leads the way with four nominations.

Other notable nominations include Dame Maggie Smith up for Supporting Actress for her work on "Downton Abbey" - it's the only nomination "Downton" received, after earning two nominations the previous year. "Modern Family" also earned a nomination in the International category.
