Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry played live together for the first time in two years at a private benefit for Tyler’s charitable organization Janie’s Fund in San Francisco on Wednesday night (April 30th).
The “Toxic Twins,” as the singer and guitarist are affectionately known, hadn’t performed on the same stage since Tyler suffered a vocal injury just three shows into Aerosmith’s farewell tour in September 2023. The following year, the legendary rock band announced they were retiring from touring due to Tyler’s condition, and canceled a rescheduled tour that was set to begin in September 2024.
While Tyler returned to the stage in early February of this year at a Grammy party benefitting Janie’s Fund, Perry was unable to join him that night, although Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton did share the stage with the singer for that performance.

In 2024, Aerosmith announced that it would officially retire from touring after Steven Tyler suffered significant damage to his vocal cords. But all it took was a good cause for the musician to make a return to the stage. Over the weekend, Tyler hosted a Grammy Awards watch party at the Hollywood Palladium through his Janie’s Fund foundation. At the end of the night, he performed six songs with assistance from a few special guests.

Steven Tyler gave his first performance since Aerosmith‘s retirement from touring due to the singer’s vocal injury.
Tyler played a six-song set, including Aerosmith hits, at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday (February 2nd) as part of his Janie’s Fund Grammy watch party and benefit concert.
Although he did not share the stage with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry (as had been announced), Tyler was backed by bandmate Tom Hamilton on bass, as well as an all-star lineup including Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Matt Sorum, Mick Fleetwood, and Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes.
Among the songs performed were Aerosmith staples such as “Toys in the Attic,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On” (with guest vocals from country star Lainey Wilson), and “Walk This Way” (with guest vocals from pop artist Jessie J). The set was bookended by covers of Extreme’s “More Than Words” (with Bettencourt) and Led Zeppelin’s “Heartbreaker.

Continuing an enduring show business tradition — a retirement that ends soon than expected —Aerosmith will reconvene at a charity event in Los Angeles next month.
Last August, the band announced it would be retiring from the road, the result of damage done to Steven Tyler’s vocal cords. “Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible,” the band said in a statement at the time. “We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.

Aerosmith will perform for the first time since retiring from touring in August of last year. The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band will take the stage at singer Steven Tyler’s upcoming 6th Annual Jam for Janie Grammy Awards Viewing Party.
The benefit will take place February 2nd at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles, and also feature such artists as Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Linda Perry, Matt Sorum, and Nuno Bettencourt joining forces for a jam session. Actor-comedian Tiffany Haddish will host the festivities.
In addition to Tyler, a press release specifically mentions Aerosmith members Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton, perhaps indicating that rhythm guitarist Brad Whitford will not be present. As it was, drummer Joey Kramer had not been performing with the band in recent years.

Aerosmith may not be done just yet. Despite singer Steven Tyler’s vocal injury putting an end to the band’s activities, bassist Tom Hamilton is holding out hope that the legendary rock act can get back in the saddle.
In a new interview with Boston radio station Wbur, Hamilton gave an update on Tyler’s condition, while also leaving the door open for Aerosmith to reconvene in some capacity.
“Steven’s healing process is going really, really well, but it goes at its own pace,” Hamilton said. “Maybe Aerosmith will do something in the future, but it’s a big if and the last thing I want to be doing is to try and push Steven in that direction.”
He continued, “If we do anything in the future, it would come from him.”

Netflix's East of Eden adaptation can fix the original film's main problem. The 1955 film adapted John Steinbeck's classic novel of the same name, with James Dean in the role of Caleb "Cal" Trask, for which he received a posthumous Academy Award nomination. Its story explores the Trask and Hamilton families over the course of multiple generations in an epic tale that serves as a retelling of the biblical story of Cain and Abel and as an exploration of the American Dream and free will.
In addition to Dean's posthumous nomination, Elia Kazan received an Academy Award nomination for Best Director and Jo Van Fleet, who played Cathy Ames, won for Best Supporting Actress. With that, there's a lot of expectation for its modern retelling. East of Eden is now being adapted as a Netflix limited series starring Florence Pugh as Cathy, while Poor Things star Christopher Abbott is...

Tom Hamilton has shed some light on the future of Aerosmith following the recent announcement that the legendary band was retiring from touring due to frontman Steven Tyler’s vocal injury. One thing the bassist “can’t imagine” is Aerosmith touring with a new singer.
On August 2nd, a month before the band was set to kick off their rescheduled farewell tour, Aerosmith announced their immediate retirement from touring, stating, “Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision – as a band of brothers – to retire from the touring stage.”
In an email interview with Charlie Kendall’s Metalshop, Hamilton answered a few questions regarding the retirement and the band’s future.
First, Hamilton detailed exactly what led to Tyler’s injury, saying, “Let me start by clearing up some information on Steven’s injury.

The Aerosmith train has stopped a-rollin’.
The group announced on its official X account that it won’t return to touring, citing vocalist Steven Tyler’s injured vocals and inability to recover.
“We’ve always wanted to blow your mind when performing,” the band wrote. “As you know, Steven’s voice is an instrument like no other. He has spent months tirelessly working on getting his voice to where it was before his injury. We’ve seen him struggling despite having the best medical team by his side. Sadly, it is clear, that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary, decision — as a band of brothers — to retire from the touring stage.”

Looking out the studio window of the radio station where she’d worked for 29 years, DJ “Mistress Carrie” Sarao could see a crowd gathering outside. It was a Friday night, Feb. 21, 2020, and freezing, but that didn’t stop hundreds of Bostonians from flooding the parking lot when they heard the news. There was no invitation, just an impulse, an impromptu meetup of loved ones known and unknown. At midnight, the city would lose its last rock radio station.

Pantera’s Rex Brown has teamed with Epiphone for a new Thunderbird signature model bass guitar — the first Epiphone model in Brown’s partnership with Gibson Brands.
The Thunderbird is considered arguably the definitive rock bass of the ’70s and its classic silhouette features a clean Ebony finish on Rex’s model. The axe touts a 9-ply neck-through-body mahogany and walnut neck with a C-shape profile, mahogany body wings, and a standard 34-inch scale length.
“Sometimes, it’s not about the price, but the quality, and Epiphone has some of the coolest bass designs ever made, Imo,” commented Brown in a press release. “I’ve had Thunderbird’s as long as I can remember! There is nothing cooler looking than a TBird… All my favorite bass players growing up have played them!! From Tom Hamilton to Pete Way…”

Aerosmith have donated a pair of new Community Emergency Vehicles to the Red Cross to help serve Florida communities hit by the recent Hurricanes, Ian and Nicole, joining an effort to help those who will be impacted by future storms.
The two 2023 Chevrolet Silverados, emblazoned with the Aerosmith logo, will be delivered in the spring of 2023. Before Steven Tyler and Joe Perry became the “Toxic Twins,” they were merely intoxicated. On a newly unearthed demo tape, which is coming out with the regrettably punny title The Road Starts Hear, that Aerosmith cut in 1971 — two years before releasing their self-titled debut — the band sounds loose and lubricated on embryonic versions of “Dream On,” “Mama Kin,” and other ditties they would be performing live for the next 50 years. It’s at once both a sonogram of the band as journeymen and a testament to the vision they had early on,...

Creating the set list for Aerosmith’s Deuces Are Wild Las Vegas residency each night is a difficult task. Not only does the band have 50 years of hits, fan favorites, deep cuts, and beloved covers to cram into a roughly 90-minute show, but all five original members are still in the group, and each has his own ideas about how exactly to pull it off. “There’s a lot of back and forth,” says guitarist Brad Whitford. “Sometimes it happens in 30 seconds and other times it’s 10 minutes of everyone saying,...

Aerosmith kicked off their Deuces are Wild Las Vegas residency over the weekend at the MGM Resort’s Park Theater, which seats just 5,200 people. That’s about a quarter the size of the arenas they usually play, but that intimacy comes at a steep price. Tickets in front go for $1,300 each and that’s not even counting the option of shelling out an additional $2,500 to meet Steven Tyler and Joe Perry, $750 to meet Joey Kramer, Tom Hamilton and Brad Whitford, or a mere $275 for a backstage tour and the chance...

“Walk This Way” took on a whole new vibe Wednesday night as Aerosmith joined Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show house band the Roots to re-imagine the song with children’s instruments. Fourteen musicians all crowded into the frame to offer a cacophonous rendition of the 1975 classic rock tune.
In the clip, Fallon sits front row alongside frontman Steven Tyler, who plays out the song on a harmonica and two apple shakers. The rest of the band is behind the the pair, with Joey Kramer smacking a toy drum and...

Aerosmith, Jimmy Fallon and Tonight Show band The Roots teamed up to perform a "Classroom Instruments" rendition of the band's hit "Walk This Way" — complete with wood blocks, toy drums, maracas and more — for a segment of Wednesday's The Tonight Show.
With wood block and mallet in hand, Fallon sat in the first row alongside frontman Steven Tyler, who simultaneously played a harmonica and two apple shakers while singing the lyrics.
The rest of the rockers filled out next two rows, with Joey Kramer on toy drum, Tom Hamilton jingling a tambourine, Brad Whitford shaking a ...

After much anticipation and speculation as to who would replace departing judges Ellen DeGeneres, Kara DioGuardi and most tragically Simon Cowell, Fox has finally announced what everyone online already seemed to know. Actress/pop star Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler have signed on as the new judges for the 10th season of the outrageously popular reality competition series American Idol. Meanwhile, record producer Randy Jackson is the only original judge and holdover from last season who has opted to return. Hit the jump for some quotes from the new judges:
Lopez was probably the hardest to snag for the competition (though she had previously been a mentor on the show), but Fox was able to reel her in with a first-look deal at Fox Films so she can keep making poor romantic comedies like The Back-Up Plan and Monster-in-Law. The singer/actress says, “For nine years I’ve...
