New Mexico has a new production studio built to accommodate filmmakers looking to take advantage of new digital technology and the state film office's tax incentives. Rio Grande Studios, founded by Michael J. Jacobs and Ruby Handler Jacobs, opened this month outside Albuquerque, in Rio Rancho. "We decided to build a motion picture studio as an adjunct to the state's progressive tax-incentive programs," Rio Grande Studios co-owner Michael Jacobs said. "We also wanted to give filmmakers the opportunity to exploit advancements in digital production and information technology in order to produce the highest-quality images and sound for their projects." The Jacobs' have outfitted the 75,000-square-foot facility with a 2,000-square-foot insert stage, four soundproof edit rooms, a previsualization room running a Pentium 4 workstation, two Apple Final Cut Pro HD 4.0 edit bays running on G5s, three digital intermediate mastering suites and a sound mixing suite. A digital projection screening room is in the process of being built, Michael Jacobs said.
