Contagion 4K Uhd from Warner Bros.

Contagion will infect 4K Ultra HD on February 27 via Warner Bros. The 2011 thriller has been newly restored in 4K from the original camera negative, overseen by director Steven Soderbergh, with High Dynamic Range.

The ensemble cast features Marion Cotillard, Matt Damon, Laurence Fishburne, Jude Law, Gwyneth Paltrow, Kate Winslet, Bryan Cranston, Jennifer Ehle, and Sanaa Lathan. Scott Z. Burns (The Bourne Ultimatum) wrote the script.

Three previously released featurettes are included: “The Reality of Contagion,” “The Contagion Detectives,” and “Contagion: How a Virus Changes the World.”

Body Double Vinyl Soundtrack from Waxwork Records

The soundtrack from Brain De Palma’s Body Double is coming to vinyl for $40 from Waxwork Records.

Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series is getting a Steelbook upgrade, at least when it comes to David Cronenberg‘s controversial feature debut, Shivers.

Shivers becomes available on Steelbook® on March 5, 2024, exclusively at Walmart.

In Shivers, “The residents of a suburban high-rise apartment building are being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless, sex-crazed fiends out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.” The cast includes Paul Hampton, Lynn Lowry, and Barbara Steele.

Cronenberg blends sex and violence in a nightmarish parasitic outbreak in a high-rise apartment complex. Scientifically engineered parasites meant to replace functioning human organs instead renders their hosts sexually violent, hellbent on spreading their infection to others. How the pulsing worm-like parasites infect provides a lot of gnarly body horror moments, including a nightmare bathtub scene.

The widespread Covid-19 pandemic which took hold at the end of 2019 has made its way around the globe and looks like the sort of thing one would expect to see in either a David Cronenberg or George A. Romero film. Mr. Cronenberg has made a career out of making films which essentially depict human beings experiencing their bodies revolting against themselves while the late Mr. Romero directed a series of zombie films wherein droves of flesh-eating, reanimated corpses, presumably brought back to life by radiation emitted from a space probe returning from Venus that blew up in Earth’s atmosphere, wreak havoc among the living. Both directors present simultaneously dark and comedic visions of humanity, and we all now find ourselves in a precarious scenario that one would equate to the nightmares conjured up by these filmmakers since the quarantine...

Following the reports back in June that Richard Greenberg's Little Monsters and David Cronenberg's Shivers are joining Lionsgate's Vestron Video Collector's Series Blu-ray lineup, the full release details have now been revealed, including a new Shivers audio commentary with writer/director David Cronenberg and co-producer Don Carmody.

Little Monsters and Shivers are next in Lionsgate's Vestron Video Collector's Series. Michael Felsher made the announcement today, noting that both releases will be out in September with a wealth of bonus material. The Collector's Series started back in 2016 with Chopping Mall and Blood Diner, before going through to 2018 and then disappearing again, leaving fans out in the cold. Now we're getting two awesome movies and the return of the mighty Vestron Video Collector's Series. And the best part is, we can expect more.

Little Monsters is a cult classic from 1989 starring Fred Savage and Howie Mandel. The story focuses on a boy named Brian who befriends a real-life monster under his bed. Brian discovers a secret world of monsters who sneak into children's bedrooms at night to pull pranks on them. Little Monsters is truly a lost classic and deserves to be seen by a lot more people.

If you've been eager to see what movies will be the next ones to join Vestron Video Collector's Series, then your wait is over, as it's been revealed that Richard Greenberg's Little Monsters and David Cronenberg's Shivers are joining Lionsgate's Blu-ray lineup.

Filmmaker Michael Felsher announced the news on Facebook, which was also shared on Blu-ray.com. According to Felsher, both Blu-rays are expected to come out in September. Special features will be announced at a later date.

Little Monsters and Shivers join a Vestron Video Collector's Series that includes Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive, Stuart Gordon's Dagon, and the Warlock collection, among other releases.

Kino Lorber has released the obscure 1969 Western “More Dead Than Alive” in a Blu-ray edition. Discharged from prison in 1891 after serving an eighteen-year sentence for murder, legendary gunslinger Cain (Clint Walker) determines to stay away from firearms, find honest work, and save enough money to buy a ranch. But his reputation as “Killer” Cain precedes him, and chances for employment are slim until he encounters conniving showman Dan Ruffalo (Vincent Price). “People would have something to talk about, if they could see you using this notched Colt of yours,” Ruffalo chortles. Alien may be a sci-fi horror classic, but what about the movies that inspired it - including David Cronenberg’s debut, Shivers?

At first, they might look as different as night and day. One is the directorial debut from a maverick Canadian director, the other is a Hollywood movie funded by 20th Century Fox. One is set in deep space, the other in a luxury apartment block on terra firma. One had a decent amount of money to throw at the construction of sets and special effects, the other was made for a few thousand dollars.

Yet Alien, released in 1979 and triggering a franchise that is still growing and mutating today, has more in common with Shivers than at first meets the eye. Cronenberg made Shivers for approximately $130,000 in 1975. Could it be that this low-budget shocker inspired what is still considered to be the ultimate space horror movie?...

‘Body Horror’ is a term synonymous with Canadian director David Cronenberg. His early work in the horror field (Rabid, The Brood, The Fly) all share connective tissue through the theme of internal horror – a transformation or catharsis from within (always for the worse) that strikes the viewer in a very personal way. Shivers (1975), aka They Came from Within, is his first feature film - a clever, creepy, and gritty introduction to the sub-genre he helped create.

Distributed by Cinepix Film Properties Inc. (Canada) and Trans American Films (Us) in October ’75 and July ’76 respectively, and produced on a budget of $179,000 (Cad), Shivers played at theaters and Drive-Ins all across North America in the summer of ’76, and up to that point was the most profitable Canadian film produced. Producers Jeff Sackman and Michael Baker today announced that they will remake the horror classic Shivers, David Cronenberg's first feature film. That film, highlighted with a special screening at this year's Toronto International Film Festival, broke ground with its boundary-pushing sexuality and violence in its original release, nearly 40 years ago.

Shivers will be directed by award-winning Danish filmmaker Rie Rasmussen from a screenplay written by Ian Driscoll. Sackman and Baker will produce through their respective companies, Tajj Media and Bunk 11 Pictures. Working with them as executive producer is the film's original executive producer, Andr&#233 Link. Shivers will begin shooting in February 2014, with casting currently underway.

In Shivers, a genetically-engineered strain of parasites that turn people into violent, compulsive sex-addicts is released into a self-contained luxury apartment complex.
