Saluting The Blood of Heroes book digs into apocalyptic 1989 film starring Rutger Hauer
Image
Rutger Hauer and Ridley Scott only made one film together, the 1982 classic Blade Runner – but Hauer went on to make two more movies that were scripted by Blade Runner screenwriter David Webb Peoples; the 1985 medieval fantasy film Ladyhawke (where Peoples went uncredited) and the apocalyptic 1989 film The Blood of Heroes, which Peoples also directed. Now War Is Hell: Making Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth and Soldier: From Script to Screen author Danny Stewart has dug into the making of The Blood of Heroes with his new book Saluting The Blood of Heroes: Behind the Apocalyptic Film, and copies are available for purchase on Amazon!

Also known as The Salute of the Jugger, The Blood of Heroes has the following synopsis: In a future where most of mankind and technology is wiped out, six people travel from place to place playing a brutal form of football with a dog skull.

Soldier: From Script to Screen book digs into the 1998 Paul W.S. Anderson film
Image
Back in 1998, the legendary Kurt Russell teamed up with Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon director Paul W.S. Anderson for a sci-fi action movie called Soldier – which is considered to be set in the same world as Blade Runner, and also shared screenwriter David Webb Peoples with that Ridley Scott classic. But Soldier came and went without many movie-goers noticing, sputtering out with just $14.6 million at the domestic box office. It has earned some fans over the years, like JoBlo’s own Jake Dee (who wrote about Soldier for the Black Sheep series)… and now author Danny Stewart has put together the book Soldier: From Script to Screen to pay tribute to the film, dig into the story of its production, and try to draw in some new fans.

Copies of Soldier: From Script to Screen can be purchased on Amazon.

The book includes: – An examination of the evolution of...

‘South Park’ Sets Second Pandemic Special; Hourlong Episode To Simulcast On MTV2
Image
South Park fans will get a second round of coronavirus-inspired comedy as the Comedy Central title sets another hour-long pandemic special.

The long-running animated series’ sophomore special, South ParQ The Vaccination Special, will air on MTV2 on Wednesday Mar. 10 at 8 p.m. Et/Pt. The hour-long episode is a follow up to last year’s South ParQ The Pandemic Special, which scored the series’ best ratings in seven years.

In South ParQ The Vaccination Special, the residents of South Park are clamoring for the Covid-19 vaccine. A new militant group attempts to stop the boys from getting their teacher vaccinated. The previous special saw Randy seizing on a growing pot market as he comes to terms with his role in the Covid outbreak. Cartman, still in pajamas from remote learning, is none too thrilled about returning to the “slavery” of the school classroom where teachers seem to have been replaced by cops.

DVD Review: "The Christine Jorgensen Story" (1970)
By Lee Pfeiffer

"Jorgensen went abroad and came back a broad!" The joke is indicative of the type of humor, sarcasm and outright condemnation that greeted the world's most legendary individual to have undergone a gender transformation. Jorgensen's name has largely been lost to obscurity in recent years but if you grew up in the 1950s and 1960s, she was a household name. She was born a male, George Jorgensen, in 1926 and had a fairly normal childhood- except for the fact that from a very early age George was haunted by the fact that he should have been born female. We're not talking about homosexual behavior or tendencies, rather, a deep-seated belief that only becoming an actual female through a surgical procedure could bring him happiness. Jorgensen got his wish when he underwent the procedure in Denmark and returned home as a "she". Predictably the media went into a frenzy...
