Great White Waters Review: Dead in the Water
Image
In the sun-bleached waters off the Florida Keys, a simple transaction of illicit goods spirals into a primal confrontation. Great White Waters wades into familiar territory, pitting a crew of drug smugglers against a swarm of preternaturally aggressive sharks.

The film drops audiences directly into the chaos, where the recovery of sunken cocaine becomes a desperate fight for survival. Caught in this maelstrom is Gia, a lone woman adrift on her boat, whose quiet day is violently interrupted by this collision of criminal ambition and animal instinct.

The director, Anthony C. Ferrante, brings a certain expectation from his past work with airborne sea predators, signaling that this is not a tale of subtle suspense but a full-throated exercise in B-movie spectacle. The premise is a stark and brutal equation: desperate people, valuable contraband, and a sea of hungry teeth.

The Human Element as Afterthought

‘Great White Waters’ Review – ‘Sharknado’ Director’s Latest Pits Drug Dealers vs. Sharks
Image
A covert late night mission to secure a bunch of drugs dropped in the ocean goes horribly awry when sharks attack the boat.

That’s the opening scene of Great White Waters but it’s also an encapsulation of the entire film, which essentially pits drug dealers against sharks over the course of a single day. Why so many sharks and why are they so aggressive? A throwaway line about a storm blowing them into the Florida Keys serves to hand wave away the former question, while the film never even bothers with the second.

But these sharks are hungry and/or pissed off because each time an idiotic human sets foot in the water, they come a-swimmin’. And get in the water these characters do, because they work for a psychotic kingpin named Reverend (Steve Hanks) whose outrageous orders must be followed or risk getting bumped off.

Great White Waters: new shark thriller from the director of Sharknado is coming to Tubi
Image
Anthony C. Ferrante, who used to write for Fangoria magazine back in the day, has directed twenty feature films over the course of his directing career – and he sure seems to love making shark thrillers. Ferrante was the director behind the over-the-top shark action of Sharknado, and when that movie turned out to be a pop culture sensation he returned to direct all five of the increasingly over-the-top sequels. The franchise wrapped up in 2018… and five years later, Ferrante directed his seventh shark movie, an Asylum production called Blind Waters that was released through the Tubi streaming service. Now, Ferrante has made another shark movie: Great White Waters, which is set to be released by Tubi on July 4th. Yes, the same day many of us will be watching the greatest shark movie of all time, Jaws. You can watch the trailer for Great White Waters in the embed above.

Great White Waters (2025)
‘Great White Waters’ from ‘Sharknado’ Director Swims onto Tubi This Fourth of July [Trailer]
Great White Waters (2025)
Cocaine incites a shark feeding frenzy in Great White Waters, a new Tubi original from the director of Sharknado, and the trailer has arrived this morning.

Great White Waters premieres on the streaming platform on July 4, 2025.

The film’s official synopsis reads, “When millions in cartel cocaine go missing off Florida’s coast, the search turns savage as vicious sharks close in on anyone daring to claim the stash.”

Angela Cole, Johnny Ramey, Steve Hanks, Ashton Leigh, and Hector Becerra star. Director Anthony C. Ferrante co-wrote the screenplay with Geoff Mead.

This marks the second team-up between Tubi and Ferrante when it comes to sharks; Ferrante stranded a couple with sharks in the 2022 Tubi original Blind Waters. Ferrante is also behind the first five Sharknado films, so he’s well versed in campy shark horror.

Watch the new Great White Waters trailer below, which introduces a variety of characters vying...

Exclusive Interview with Echoes Filmmaker Nils Timm
Feeling wide awake while asleep, she can't move... and she's not alone. Anna Parker's sleep paralysis strikes with a supernatural slant in Echoes, the feature film writing and directing debut of Nils Timm. With Echoes now available on Blu-ray and DVD from Anchor Bay Entertainment, we had a chance to talk with Timm, who discussed taking a unique approach to the haunted house sub-genre, portraying the different social masks people wear in real life, his personal brush with sleep paralysis during filming, and much more.

What attracted you to the subject of sleep paralysis?

Nils Timm: Before I wrote Echoes, I was researching a lot of stories about lucid dreaming. I was experimenting with that a little bit myself, read everything about it, and interviewed several people in circles of friends and colleagues about this. At least one out of every six or seven people would say, ‘Yes,...

Echoes Review
In the indie horror game, narrative storytelling is everything. Even on the tightest budget, with the most inexperienced actors, a filmmaker can still pump out the next big genre “thing” as long as it’s a story worth telling. Granted, the other aspects can’t equate to kindergarten bullshit and film school inexperience, but when a story is That tasty, so indulgently succulent and juicy, it’s hard to keep from scarfing it down.

With that said, Echoes is not horror’s next smash hit. It lacks the creative ingenuity of It Follows, the charm of Turbo Kid, and the practical goriness of Stitches, but it’s interesting enough to keep viewers at attention for a brisk hour and a half. I know that doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement, but compared to the heap of sloppy continuity-inept nightmares I’ve been forced to sit through recently, Nils Timm...

First Details on Buddy Hutchins Starring Jamie Kennedy; Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Still
Veteran actor Jamie Kennedy has a huge and diverse slew of acting credits on his resume; however, it's safe to say that even with his years of work in Hollywood, he's never experienced anything quite like Buddy Hutchins.

Kennedy (pictured) plays the title character in Buddy Hutchins, which is filming now and scheduled for a mid-2014 release. It's been described as a more horror-themed version of Michael Douglas' memorable 1993 film Falling Down, making it an extremely dark turn for Kennedy, who, according to all reports, is absolutely sizzling in the role.

Buddy Hutchins is a Traplight Media and Richard Switzer Entertainment Group film written and directed by Jared Cohn. Alongside Kennedy it stars Sally Kirkland, Sara Malakul Lane and Erin O'Brien. Also featured are David Gere, Steve Hanks and Nicole Alexandra Shipley.

The film's producers are Richard Switzer, who happens to be the youngest producer ever at just 18 years of age,...

Hold Your Breath But Press Play: A Movie Review
*there are spoilers here. Director: Jared Cohn. Writers: Geoff Meed and Kenny Zinn. Cast: Katrina Bowden, Randy Wayne, Erin Marie Hogan, Steve Hanks, Brad Slaughter, Seth Cassell, Darin Cooper, Jordan Pratt-Thatcher and Lisa Younger. Hold Your Breath, or for those in the Twitterverse #HoldYourBreath, is remarkable for being one of the first films to premiere in theatres from production company The Asylum. As a horror film, Hold Your Breath is not truly remarkable in itself. However, the film is still a fun watch, despite some moronic characters. Is having sex in a morgue really a good idea? The film's ending stands out for offering some interesting suspense, while the film's supernatural rules ground the film in a dramatic reality. Hold Your Breath is a popcorn movie that will entertain most horror fans. The story begins with seven characters heading out on the proverbial camping trip. Hold Your Breath (2012) Review
By Jesse Miller, MoreHorror.com

It’s 1956 and in the local asylum, the most evil and diabolical serial killer is about to be executed after a long and brutal killing spree.

Before he goes out, he takes the opportunity to steal one more kill before bowing out dramatically by reciting a lengthy quote from the bible.

This beauty of an opener is quite startling and promising and better yet, it displays some brutal and effective make up work, which is actually a step up from Asylum’s usual offerings.

Moving to the present, we are introduced to a group of 20-something kids heading out into the woods for a weekend of sex, drugs and rock n roll to escape the pressure’s of every day life.

Along the highway, while passing a nearby graveyard, Jerry (Katrina Bowdon) blurts out for everyone to hold their breath – because if there is an...
