Jo Nesbø is the author behind such crime novels as The Headhunters, The Snowman and The Hanging Sun, all of which have been adapted into films. The latest Nesbø tome to get the adaptation treatment is Blood On Snow, the writer’s 2015 novel.

We reported last year that Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Tom Hardy were gearing up to star in the film, which is to be directed by No Time To Die director Cary Fukunaga. As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Hardy has exited the project due to scheduling issues, but he’s being replaced by another prominent British star, Benedict Cumberbatch.

Prison dramas are strange. It’s certainly not my go-to genre when it comes to recommending films or TV shows, and it is definitely not something I gravitate to in my free time. That’s how I came across masterpieces like The Great Escape, Escape from Alcatraz, The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, and The Hurricane. I watched Starred Up for Jack O’Connell, Chopper for Eric Bana, Bronson for Tom Hardy, A Prayer Before Dawn for Joe Cole, Gridiron Gang for Dwayne Johnson, The Longest Yard for Adam Sandler, and Brawl in Cell Block 99 for Vince Vaughn. Also, Chicken Run is undoubtedly up there with the greats. Now, when it comes to TV shows, I don’t show the same kind of zeal.

Believe it or not, there was an Oscar buzz around Andy Serkis’ Gollum role in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. Serkis played the voice and motion capture for the role. He initially had doubts about the role as he was unsure whether the mo-cap performance would work in the film. However, Peter Jackson believed it to be a relevant acting performance.

Following his appearance at the Next on Netflix event this week, Gareth Evans confirmed the runtime of Havoc — the subject of some discussion and speculation as of late — would be a “tight one.” Posting on Instagram, Evans wrote, “Oh and to clarify as have seen rumours rumbling… the runtime for the film is a tight as a drum 1hr 45mins (Inc credits) and will be out this spring (sorry for being cryptic – I’m not allowed to say exactly when just yet!).” While we don’t have a release date, knowing that the runtime for the movie itself is likely somewhere around 1:40 or less is encouraging.

Timothy Olyphant is set to join Anya Taylor-Joy in Lucky, an Apple TV+ limited series based on the bestselling novel by Marissa Stapley of the same name.

The series centers on “a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.” Olyphant will play Lucky’s father, John. Jonathan Trooper (Banshee) created the series and will serve as co-showrunner alongside Cassie Pappas. Production is expected to kick off in spring 2025. The pair are teaming on a Grenfell [working title] doc feature that will air later this year and was revealed last night at the Next on Netflix event in London.
