Multiple Politicians Played Themselves in This Heartwarming Comedy
Image
Presidents are typically chosen by an election, not by their physical features. That's true in most cases, but not in the 1993 film Dave, which depicts a hilarious attempt to hide a president's stroke by hiring an impersonator who looks so similar that he can pass as the president. Directed by comedy legend Ivan Reitman, Dave depicts government work humorously but also with care and detail.

The movie stars Kevin Kline, a few years after his Oscar win, as the titular Dave, as well as President Mitchell, the man Dave impersonates. Sigourney Weaver stars opposite Kline as President Mitchell's wife, Ellen Mitchell, who has a troubled relationship with her husband but warms up to Dave's kind heart. In addition to those two stars, Dave features a number of cameos from real-life government workers as part of the film's commitment to detail.

Eva Longoria Honored by Ruderman Family Foundation for Advocacy Work on Behalf of the Disabled
Image
Eva Longoria has been selected to receive the Ruderman Family Foundation’s annual honor recognizing prominent cultural figures who do advocacy work on behalf of the disabled.

Longoria founded the organization Eva’s Heroes in 2006 to help those with intellectual disabilities. The cause is personal to Longoria, whose older sister Liza was born with an intellectual disability. In 2012, Longoria also established the Eva Longoria Foundation to help advocate for Latino women through education and entrepreneurship.

“I’m so honored to be recognized as the recipient of this year’s Morton E. Ruderman Award. My older sister Liza was born with an intellectual disability, so my mom instilled in all of us early on the importance of giving back to our community, which is why I founded Eva’s Hereos to provide a platform to advocate for the rights of people with disabilities around the country,” said Longoria.

“It’s been the great mystery in political history of the past 50 years,” said Slamdance Film Festival founder, writer and director Dan Mirvish of the eighteen-and-a-half minutes famously missing from the Nixon Tapes. His campy political thriller out this weekend takes a stab at what might have happened.

[[tmz:video id="0_fg5k85s4"]] Former Senator Tom Harkin has no words for Donald Trump, but he does have one quick and vivid sign for the Gop candidate. Harkin -- who spoke at the DNC last week using American Sign Language -- flew into Lax, and we asked him what sign he'd use to describe Donald Trump. His answer is short and hysterical. Basically, he's saying the Donald is #2 -- as in ... a turd. Watch and learn a little Asl.

Democrats Embrace Disabled Americans After Donald Trump Mocked Them
Tom Harkin
On Tuesday, the 26th anniversary of the Americans With Disabilities Act, former Sen. Tom Harkin used sign language as he spoke at the Democratic Convention podium in Philadelphia. A blind singer sang the National Anthem to the delegates. A paralympic swimmer led the Pledge of Allegiance from her wheelchair. Democrats used the anniversary to repeatedly show how they support people with disabilities. Meanwhile, on Monday night, they played a video from November in which Donald Trump appeared to mock the muscular disability of New York Times reporter Serge F. Kovaleski. “Democrats believe in working together and bringing people with disabilities in to develop policy,...

The One Film You Need To Support: All The Rage
Suki Hawley, David Beilinson and Michael Galinsky of Rumur Films are an amazing trio of filmmakers who have made many important must-see documentaries, such as Battle for Brooklyn and Who Took Johnny?.

But with their latest project, All the Rage, they are attempting to actually change viewer’s lives.

All the Rage is a profile of Dr. John Sarno, the American doctor who has been a nearly lone — but absolutely essential — voice in the wilderness of modern day medicine. Dr. Sarno has long championed a holistic mind-body approach to solving numerous common ailments, including — most famously — back pain. His contention that most back pain is the result of psychological trauma over physical trauma has earned him the devotion and respect of the thousands of people he has cured.

Some of Dr. Sarno’s most enthusiastic supporters include Larry David, John Stossel, Senator Tom Harkin and Howard Stern.

Now you can...

Dana Reeve
Before an emotional tribute to his father, Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams, Zak Williams spoke to People about adjusting to life without his famous dad, admitting, "It's tremendously sad ... we're trying to stay strong." 5 Things to Know About Iowa Senator-Elect Joni Ernst
Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
Of all the big Republican wins in the midterm elections, Joni Ernst's in Iowa may be the biggest, as it helped swing the Senate to Gop control, in one of the fiercest contests. Democrats saw Iowa state Sen. Ernst, 44, as a serious threat, enlisting Michelle Obama, Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton to campaign for Ernst's opponent, Bruce Braley, in the race for the seat that had been occupied for 29 years by the retiring Democrat Tom Harkin. When this new star of the Republican Party is sworn into office in January, she will become Iowa's first woman in the U.S.

Taylor Swift Lands in Tokyo for Promotional Fun
Showing some love for her Japanese fans, Taylor Swift jetted in to Narita Airport just outside of Tokyo on Tuesday (November 4).

The “Welcome to New York” songstress, who just announced her 2015 world tour, was bright-eyed and bushy-tailed despite her long international flight, and looked flawless in a green minidress with black stockings and black heels.

And while her latest album 1989 is flying off the shelves, Taylor somehow became involved in a political race in Iowa after sitting Senator Tom Harkin slammed hopeful Joni Ernst for being “as good looking as Taylor Swift.”

Republican candidate Ernst fired back at Harkin for demeaning her just because she’s an attractive woman. “I think it’s unfortunate that [Harkin] and many of their party believe that you can’t be a real woman if you’re conservative and if you’re female. Again, I am greatly offended about that.”...

Bernie Sanders Considers 2016 Presidential Run
Sen. Bernie Sanders, the left-leaning Independent from Vermont, is reportedly contemplating throwing his hat into the ring for the 2016 presidential election.

Bernie Sanders Running For President?

Sanders sat down on Meet the Press on Sunday, where he discussed the possibility of making a play for the presidency in the next presidential race. Citing evidence that the American people are frustrated with both the Republican and Democratic parties, Sanders made the case that it could be time for an Independent. Yet, Sanders also acknowledged the inherent difficulty in launching a national campaign as a third party candidate.

“The truth is, profound anger at both political parties, more and more people are becoming independent, the negative is, how do you set up a 50-state infrastructure as an independent?” he said, before adding, “The American people want change. They want Congress, they want candidates to stand up to the big money interests.”

Sanders added,...

President Obama Calls For ‘Year Of Action’ In State Of The Union Address
President Obama is vowing to make 2014 a ‘breakthrough year’ for the United States. The president revealed his plans to cut through bureaucratic red tape and strengthen the middle class during his yearly State of the Union address on Jan. 28.

President Barack Obama‘s 2014 State of the Union address was powerful yet practical, with the president trying to get the public back on his side after a rocky year, and promising to turn 2014 into his “year of action” — even if it means bypassing Congress to make as many executive decisions as possible.

President Obama’s State Of The Union Address — Obama Calls For ‘Year Of Action’

As evidenced by the government shutdown in October, the stark division of opinion in Congress has prevented President Obama from getting much of anything done — but he’s prepared to enact some stronger executive action in 2014.

Meme: James Franco Has No Gag Reflex, DC Comics Responds To Orson Scott Card Controversy, and Daniel Radcliffe Is Only British From the Waist Up
In Spring Breakers, James Franco has a scene where he performs an impressive deep throat of two of his pistols. "Most people can't get past that gag reflex at the back of the throat. Guess I'm a natural."

Eleven myths about bisexuality dispelled at Ok Cupid.

This is the full text of President Obama's State of the Union address. He referenced "gay" explicitly once, and implicitly by talking about opportunities that shouldn't be defined by who we love.

Interview conducted by Tom Stockman November 14th, 2012

A co-founder in 1994 of the Slamdance Film Festival, Dan Mirvish is a busy director, screenwriter and producer. Labeled a “cheerful subversive” by The New York Times, and “Hollywood’s Bad Boy” by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Mirvish has made quite a name for himself in the world of Independent Film. He remains actively involved with Slamdance, frequently serving as master of ceremonies and mentor to the incoming crop of filmmakers each year. The festival has served as a launching pad for such filmmakers as Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception), Marc Forster (Quantum of Solace), Jared Hess (Napoleon Dynamite) and Oren Peli (Paranormal Activity).
