The Conners is preparing for the imminent arrival of another classic Roseanne character.

Ahead of the premiere of The Conners Season 5, EPs David Caplan and Bill Helford told TV Line that fans should expect a sudden appearance from someone from the past.

“I can’t reveal it, but there is someone coming from years’ past,” Helford told the outlet.

“It was a very memorable appearance when this person was there, and this person is coming back.”

We're well into The Conners Season 5 now, and TV Line caught back up with Helford to get an update on the situation.

“Oh yeah, still happening,” Helford told TV Line this week.

“I don’t want to tell you much… It could very well be after the first of the new year.”

Exclusive: The current fifth season of ABC’s The Conners will be the largest yet for the Roseanne spinoff. It will include 22 episodes, traditionally considered a full-season broadcast order.

The series’ first season, which rose out of the ashes of Roseanne’s implosion, consisted of 11 episodes. With cast members being signed year-to-year and juggling other commitments, The Conners produced 20 episodes each in Seasons 2-4. That count has now gone up to 22 episodes. I hear the news was shared during the Oct. 7 taping of the multi-camera comedy.

ABC has been stocking up on its most popular comedy series. This past summer, the network expanded the current sophomore season of breakout Abbott Elementary to a full-season 22 episodes. And The Goldbergs’ ninth season last season also was padded with additional episodes to reach the 22-episode mark.

Michael Fishman will not return as series regulars in the upcoming fifth season of “The Connors,” TheWrap has learned.

Fishman’s name is not on the Season 5 lead sheet. In the show he portrays D.J. Conner, the younger brother of Darlene (Sara Gilbert) and Becky (Lecy Goranson).

Fishman has directed five episodes of the ABC comedy. In Season 1 of “The Conners,” Maya Lynne Robinson portrayed D.J.’s wife Geena, but Robinson left the spinoff after its first season. She made a returning appearance in the Season 3 finale, but did not come back in Season 4.

Laurie Metcalf told Entertainment Tonight that a sophomore run for the Roseanne spinoff is in play. “I believe it’s going to happen,” she told Et‘s Lauren Zima before Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards. “I think we’ll do between 10 and 13 [episodes], something like that. … I think the tone will be the same, but I love not knowing what’s coming up at all.” Watch video of the interview below.

ABC has ordered four additional episodes of new fall series A Million Little Things, bringing its freshman season to 17 episodes; and one more episode of new Roseanne spinoff series, The Conners, bringing its run to 11 episodes.

This is considered a full-season order for A Million Little Things as heavily serialized broadcast dramas typically produce 13-18-episode seasons. NBC’s Manifest, the highest rated and most watched new series this fall, recently received a back order of three episodes for a 16-episode freshman season, also referred to as a full-season order.

Like its predecessor, Roseanne, The Conners was intended for a short run because of its cast members’ other commitments. Roseanne had been renewed for a 13-episode second season. The Conners was originally picked up for 10 episodes in the wake of Roseanne’s abrupt cancellation.

After 19 long years “Roseanne” returned to the small screen this past spring for its 10th season on ABC. But then it was abruptly cancelled after racist tweets by Roseanne Barr. Nevertheless, Barr’s co-star Laurie Metcalf, who reprised her role as Roseanne’s sister Jackie Harris, still earned an Emmy nomination for Best Comedy Supporting Actress. This is her 5th bid for her work on this show and her 11th Emmy nom overall. Out of her four previous nominations for this show (1992-1995), she took home the Emmy three consecutive times (1992-1994), but those are her only three wins to date.

It's been a difficult few months for the stars of the Roseanne reboot. The show was abruptly canceled by ABC after star Roseanne Barr's racist tweet, but soon after, the network announced a spin-off called The Conners starring Sara Gilbert, who played Darlene Conner on the original show from 1988 until 1997 as well as the 2018 revival. And now, Emma Kenney (who is set to play Darlene's daughter Harris Conner-Healy on the series) opened up about what it's been like filming the revival without Roseanne present — and apparently it hasn't been that hard. "I think that all of us are very professional,” the actress explained to Us Weekly in a new interview. "And there’s just so many more stories that need to be told through the Conner family and so many other different aspects of life that we’re going to get to tell, and I’m really excited and grateful for that.

When Roseanne returned to ABC last season, it was a sensation right from out of the gate, giving every indication that we would get several more years of the show at the very least. Then, of course, Roseanne Barr posted a tweet deemed racist and the network immediately cancelled the series. That, it seemed, was that. But then the rumblings began that there would be a spin-off without Roseanne, and that show — The Conners — has just gone into production. Hours later, we got our first teaser! The 15-second clip is definitely meant to build excitement for the show. It simply shows the Conners' living room and iconic ugly couch, and as it zooms in to the tune of "Anticipation" by Carly Simon, the words "What's next?" appear on screen, followed by "The Conners" and "premieres Tuesday Oct. 16, 8/7c." ABC just released our first look at “The Conners,” which will continue the story from “Roseanne” without its title character. The rest of the cast came together for the first table read. Leading the show will be patriarch Dan Conner, played by John Goodman. As you can see in the photo above, he is surrounded by the three Conner children and three grandchildren. Also on hand is Laurie Metcalf as sister-in-law Jackie Harris.

It’s a good week for a whole slew of Broadway talent who were just announced as Tony Award nominees for the 2018 ceremony. Following the massive ratings for the premiere of the Roseanne revival on ABC, the network has renewed the series for next season, which will be the classic sitcom’s 11th overall. Sources say the order is for 13 episodes, up from 9 in the current first installment of the revival. You can watch a video of the renewal announcement below the post.

Here’s the no-brainer of the week: ABC has finalized a renewal of its “Roseanne” revival for a second go-round — which, the network notes, will actually be its 11th season. ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey, who told IndieWire earlier in the week that such a move was likely forthcoming, announced the pickup on Friday.

“Roseanne” opened to huge numbers, which continue to grow. After just one day of Nielsen’s delayed viewing counted, Tuesday’s “Roseanne” premiere has now jumped to 21.9 million viewers, and its adults 18-49 rating is now at a 6.2. (It was a 5.2 rating after its live debut.) That number will continue to grow once Live+3 and Live+7 data come in.

ABC had already sealed deals with the show’s stars to return for another season — this time, for 13 episodes. And Roseanne Barr has previously expressed her desire to keep the show going in success.

Kate McKinnon (“Saturday Night Live“) has won two Emmys in a row for Best Comedy Supporting Actress, and she’s looking to keep that streak alive this year. But if anyone can overtake her it’s two women who have ruled the category in decades past. According to the Expert journalists who have chimed in with their gutsy early predictions thus far, McKinnon’s biggest threats are Laurie Metcalf (“Roseanne“) and Megan Mullally (“Will and Grace“).

Five out of eight Experts are betting on McKinnon to three-peat for her variety of characters in the late-night sketch comedy series: Eric Deggans (NPR), Joyce Eng (Gold Derby), Peter Travers (Rolling Stone), Ben Travers (IndieWire) and Ken Tucker (Yahoo). “SNL” has been a strong awards force in recent years, and in 2017 it had its biggest year ever with 22 nominations and 9 victories including Best Variety Sketch Series and McKinnon’s second straight Comedy Supporting Actress prize.

The revival of “Roseanne” debuted to the second-best ratings of any scripted TV episode all year — and it looks like President Donald Trump took notice.

According to the New York Times, President Trump called Roseanne Barr, the creator and star of “Roseanne” and an avid supporter of the President, to congratulate her on the revival’s success.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the call. The New York Times cited a source who said Trump was “enthralled” with “Roseanne’s” “huge” ratings, and the President also thanked Barr for her support. The show earned 18.2 million viewers, second only to the post-Super Bowl episode of “This Is Us,” which earned 26.97 million viewers.

The revival of “Roseanne” features many of the original’s characters, including Barr, Sara Gilbert, and John Goodman. Roseanne is a Trump supporter in the show, with her TV sister Jackie Harris (Laurie Metcalf) written as a Hillary supporter.

It was the cackle heard ’round the TV business Wednesday morning: The triumphant return of “Roseanne” stunned executives, including top brass at ABC. Insiders at rival networks predicted a rating as high as 3.0 among adults 18-49, which would have been deemed a huge success. NBC last summer renewed its Will & Grace revival for a second season ahead of its fall premiere. ABC similarly had been laying the groundwork for a second season of its Roseanne revival in the weeks leading to its March 27 debut. I hear the network has closed deals with the cast of the politically charged blue-collar sitcom. They all are set to return for Season 2, which I hear is expected to be 10-13 episodes, up from nine for the first installment. (The network has been trying to expand the size of the order even further)

I hear the Carsey-Werner Television-produced Roseanne has an early-renewal deadline — which is not uncommon for high-profile series — and ABC has until April 15 to pick up a second season. After the blockbuster ratings for the premiere last night, the network likely won’t wait that long. ABC had no comment.

Laurie Metcalf (“Lady Bird”) lost the Best Supporting Actress Oscar to Allison Janney (“I, Tonya”), but could both walk away winners at the Emmys. Janney will be contending in Best Comedy Actress for “Mom,” while that loss could fuel Metcalf to an Emmy win for the “Roseanne” revival.

Riving old TV series has become big business in Hollywood and it seems like one of the most anticipated revivals coming is Roseanne. I was never really into this show when I was growing up, but I know a lot of people loved the sitcom, including my parents who watched it all the time. Those people are sure to enjoy this revival.

The full cast of the original series is coming back, including John Goodman, who originally died at the end of the series. But, as you'll see in the trailer, they play it off like he never really died. I guess if the comic books can get away with cheating death all the time, Roseanne can do it too.
