Sooty, Kermit, Edd the Duck: 31 TV puppets we still love
This weekend sees the debut of a brand new Saturday night entertainment show with a twist - it has puppets!

To mark the launch of BBC One's That Puppet Game Show on Saturday night (August 10), Digital Spy compiles a list of just some of TV's greatest ever puppets.

Andy Pandy

One of the leading children's characters of the early 1950s, Andy Pandy's 26 episodes were shown continuously until 1970, when a new series was made. The sweet marionette and his friends Teddy and Looby Loo lived in a picnic basket, and chilled out to the dulcet tones of Maria Bird. A new stop-motion series returned in 2002.

Animal

One of the best-loved Muppets, Animal is a drummer for the band Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem. He's surely up there with Dave Grohl, John Bonham and Ringo Starr as also one of the best-loved drummers of all time. Despite having a limited vocabulary,...

Comic Relief Feature: Babs Windsor kicks poverty where it hurts in new Comic Relief ad for Jackpotjoy
Comic Relief is back with a bang this year, celebrating its 25th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Comic Relief partner Jackpotjoy has teamed up with Queen of Bingo Babs Windsor for a brand new ad that’s going to knock your block off. She may be 75, but Babs has gone all-out to be funny for money this year, learning kung fu and performing all of her own stunts in the ad for Jackpotjoy’s new Red Nose Day bingo game.

The ad sees pint-sized Babs showing a gang of thugs a thing or two, in a sketch that’s a homage to classic kung fu movies, as well as Peggy Mitchell’s rough and tumble Eastend past. The Red Nose Day bingo game has been launched to help raise funds for Comic Relief, who in its 15 year history has already raised an amazing £660 million to help fight poverty.

It’s...

Keith Harris in Cuddles & Co. (1973)
Keith Harris and Orville became the latest celebrities to enter the Big Brother house last night (June 12), taking part in the No Laughing Matter task with the housemates. The iconic children's entertainers performed a gig at the Megalols Cafe alongside stand-up Jeff Leech and Britain's Got Talent's Gatis Kandis yesterday evening, where they were attempting to ruin the housemates' attempts to not laugh for two whole days. The fewer chortles and sniggers that the housemates produce over the two days, the more chance they have of passing this week's shopping task. Harris, Orville (more)...

Feature: Forgotten reality TV stars
Reality TV has often provided a springboard and career saver for many of today's celebrities, but for each success story there are at least twice as many failures. Strictly may have relaunched Alesha Dixon's pop career, but Keith Harris & Orville's stardom never recovered after they appeared together on The Farm. We may all remember Leona Lewis, but what ever happened to Michelle McManus and Steve Brookstein? In tribute to the long lost stars TV of old, here's a list of Digital Spy's favourite forgotten faces! 5. Airport's Jeremy Spake

For a brief period in the mid-90s, rotund ground services manager Spake was one of the most recognisable figures on TV. The camp star of BBC docu-soap Airport was credited with starting the craze for reality TV alongside Driving School's Maureen Rees. He went on to (more)...
