10 Best '90s Zombie Movies, Ranked
Image
Zombie movies in the 1990s showcased a mix of comedy horrors and gory releases, diversifying the genre scene. Acclaimed directors like Wilson Yip, Clive Barker, and Peter Jackson created standout zombie movies of the decade. Despite being a decline for the genre, some 1990s zombie movies like Cemetery Man still hold up well.

The 1990s were a strange time for zombie movies, which didnt have as many classics as other decades, although there were still great releases during this time. While George A. Romeros Night of the Living Dead signaled the birth of the modern zombie movie in the 1960s, and the 1970s and 1980s have countless iconic releases, the last decade before the millennium amounted to somewhat of a slump for the genre and may have been impacted by viewer fatigue from years gone by. However, despite this decline, some movies stood out amongst the rest and still hold up today.

The X-Files Rewatch – Release
If I’ve learned one thing from this re-watch of season 9 of The X-Files it’s this, I really love John Doggett. His character brings so much to the series that without him, I can’t help but feel as though this final season would have been even worse. Of course it’s only appropriate that they would give him his own episode to wrap up the most important Doggett storyline…the death of his son Luke.

The death of Doggett’s son prior to him joining of the FBI was the source of his anger and desire for justice, similar to the abduction of Mulder’s sister being the source of his search for truth. Some might say Doggett’s story is a little too close to that but I don’t think so, his is a different kind of drive and Robert Patrick never fails to sell us on Doggett’s grief.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed its 276-member-strong class of 2013.

The list, published by The Hollywood Reporter, includes actors, cinematographers, designers, directors, documentarians, executives, film editors, makeup artists and hairstylists, "members-at-large," musicians, producers, PR folks, short filmmakers and animators, sound technicians, visual effects artists, and writers.

Jason Bateman, Rosario Dawson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Milla Jovovich, Lucy Liu, Jennifer Lopez, Emily Mortimer, Sandra Oh, Jason Schwartzman, and Michael Peña are among the roster of actors, while "The Heat" and "Bridesmaids" helmer Paul Feig made the directors' cut.

"We did not change our criteria at all," says Academy president Hawk Koch of this year's larger-than-usual class. "Yes, this year there is a tremendous amount of women, a tremendous amount of people of color, people from all walks of life. This year, we asked the branches to look at everybody who wasn't in the Academy but who deserved to be.

Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Matthew Modine, Anne Hathaway, Marion Cotillard, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt in The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
The Academy just added 276 Oscar voters.

That’s 100 more than last year, and part of an easing of a longstanding cap on the number of new members allowed to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences each year.

AMPAS usually adds between 130 and 180 new members, replacing those who have quit or passed away. The membership now stands around 6,000.

Jason Bateman, Jennifer Lopez, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Emmanuelle Riva, and Chris Tucker are among the actors who have been invited to join, the organization announced today.

Other interesting additions: the musician Prince, Girls and Tiny Furniture writer/director/actress Lena Dunham,...

"The Box"

You could make the argument that if Richard Kelly could only get the whole world to come over to his house and listen to his record collection, he might not feel the need to make films at all. That said, his fall from grace following the flop of "Southland Tales" was so total that he went from the director anointed as the hipster's David Lynch to the arthouse M. Night Shyamalan overnight. With much riding on this comeback, Kelly has turned to Richard Matheson's short story "Button, Button," previously immortalized as an episode of "The Twilight Zone,...
