A teenage boy's penchant for finding some form of trouble is worth studying.

In Lifetime's newest original film, Friday Night Sext Scandal, we have a storyline inspired by real events.

It intends to explore the dark underbelly of the high school experience regarding teenage boys who go on the hunt for sexually explicit photos from their female counterparts.

And in true Lifetime fashion, they explore the scandalous nature behind this from a different perspective.

The film focuses on one teen boy's experience of getting reeled into these deplorable actions.

The film stars Riverdale's Anthony Timpano as Shawn, a 16-year-old jock who is just starting to see advancement in his football career when he's upgraded to a starter on the team.

Of course, with advancement in the athletic realm comes increased popularity and the opportunity to hang out with upperclassmen, too.

And we all know very little good comes from associating with upper-class jocks.

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) will produce its eighth fundraising telecast on Aug. 19 at 8 p.m. Et to raise money for cancer research and treatments. The one hour special, titled “How It Started, How It’s Going,” will acknowledge how SU2C has impacted cancer research over the past 15 years. Founded in 2008, the program was initiated by a group of women aiming to motivate the entertainment community to raise awareness and funding for cancer research.

Netflix has renewed romantic drama series “Virgin River” for a fourth and fifth season.

“Virgin River” is based on Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name. The show follows Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge), a woman who takes a job as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River after seeing an ad for the position and hoping to leave her past life behind. There, she meets former Marine and local bartender Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), and the two fall into a complicated love story. The cast also includes Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Grayson Gurnsey, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen and Marco Grazzini, among others.

Your prayers have been answered, “Virgin River” fans: The romance series has scored a two-season pickup, being renewed for both Seasons 4 and 5 at Netflix, the streaming service said Monday.

Starring Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, “Virgin River” tells the love story of Mel Monroe (Breckenridge), who answers an ad to work as a midwife and nurse practitioner in the remote Northern California town of Virgin River, thinking it will be the perfect place to start fresh and leave her painful memories behind.

Per Netflix, the 10-episode third season of the romance series, which launched in July, “left fans with more questions about the residents of this small town after a funeral, a fire, a divorce, a hurricane and a new romance.”

Looks like with at least two more seasons to go, those fans will be getting answers — hopefully — and lots and lots more loving between Jack (Henderson) and Mel.

Lifetime has greenlighted a remake of the 1997 TV movie “Dying to Belong” about sorority hazing, the network announced Tuesday.

Shannen Doherty will star in the movie alongside “Supergirl’s” Favour Onwuka and “iZombie” actress Jenika Rose. Onwuka and Rose will play college freshman who become “fast friends,” according to Lifetime’s description of the film. “Riley (Rose), whose mother Katherine (Doherty) was a legacy Pi Gamma Beta, decides to rush in hopes of following Katherine’s footsteps and is ecstatic when Olivia (Onwuka) joins her. Netflix dropped the trailer for the third season of its romance series “Virgin River” on Friday, revealing Jack Sheridan’s (Martin Henderson) fate after the Season 2 finale ended with him bleeding out from a gunshot wound on the floor next to Melinda “Mel” Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge).

Luckily, the video shows us almost immediately that Jack is Ok, but he is going to need some downtime to recover from the injury and Mel is the biggest supporter of him staying in bed — for medical reasons and romantic ones.

The cast announced a return date on Instagram with a video heads-up, revealing that the show will be back on Friday, July 9. Following the Summer of Secrets theme, the original Lifetime films will take on true stories of secrecy and deception, and premiere every Saturday and Sunday night from May 31 to June 27.

Lifetime will kick off Summer of Secrets on Memorial Day with double feature of acquired films A Party Gone Wrong and The Secrets She Keeps. A Party Gone Wrong stars Shellie Sterling as a woman who finds herself in the middle of a dark money-making scheme. No premiere date has been set for the upcoming Season 3. The second season debuted on Netflix on Nov. 27.

“Virgin River” follows a recently widowed big-city nurse (Alexandra Breckenridge) who moves to the redwood forests of northern California, where she meets an intriguing man (Henderson).

The series also stars Lauren Hammersley and Annette O’Toole. Joining the cast for Season 3 will be Zibby Allen and Stacey Farber.

Exclusive: Production began this week in Hamilton, Ontario on actress Katie Boland’s (The Bet) directorial debut We’re All In This Together.

Having adapted Amy Jones’ novel of the same name, Boland will also star in the film as twins alongside Martha Burns (Alias Grace) and Alisha Newton (Heartland). The film will follow the dysfunctional Parker family which unravels after a woman goes over a waterfall and a video goes viral.

Lorena Bobbitt’s story is getting the biopic treatment.

Lifetime has greenlit “I Was Lorena Bobbitt,” a feature about the woman who became a household name and made tabloid headlines when she cut off her husband’s penis with a knife in 1993 after years of abuse.

Bobbitt was the subject of a Jordan Peele-produced Amazon docuseries which came out less than a year ago, and this new retelling has Bobbitt herself on board as an executive producer. Casting on the project is underway and production will begin later this month. The film, announced by A+E Networks president of programming Rob Sharenow at Lifetime’s Television Critics’ Association winter tour press day, will follow Bobbitt’s “journey from a wide-eyed, immigrant bride to a battered wife into an unlikely media sensation.”

Exclusive: Canadian outfit Marina Cordoni Entertainment is taking the title to the Efm.

Toronto’s Marina Cordoni Entertainment is in Berlin with the world market premiere of the Butler Brothers’ heist comedy First Round Down.

The feature centres on the misadventures of a former ice hockey prodigy. Dylan Bruce plays the lead as a former athlete and hitman on the straight and narrow who returns home to care for his younger brother and finds his chequered past catching up with him. Rachel Wilson and Rob Ramsay also star.

Substance Productions produced First Round Down in association with Marina Cordoni Entertainment, Telefilm Canada and Unobstructed View.

Cordoni has just licensed worldwide rights excluding Canada on Gail Harvey’s upcoming thriller Never Saw It Coming to Jay Firestone’s Prodigy Pictures. Katie Boland stars in the film, which is set to begin shooting on March 23.

A stellar group of eight Canadian women directors, along with an ensemble of hand-picked Industry professionals, mentors, actors and crews, have been selected to attend the 19th annual Women In the Director’s Chair (Widc) program, and the two-day pilot session of the Widc Whistler Film Festival Industry Immersion. Over the next two months these rising stars will develop their feature films and web series, while cultivating relationships with industry insiders along with key collaborators, and an ensemble of hand-picked professional actors and technicians. The program culminates with a technical creative master-class at The Banff Centre.

Mounting their directorial debut feature films are, from the Northwest Territories, Kirsten Carthew ("Prototype"), Manitoba-based Rebecca Gibson ("Jane Garbage"), from Ontario, Renuka Jeyapalan ("Sex with as Perfect Stranger"), and Simone Stock ("Dark Horse"), BC-based Kate Kroll, ("One.Last.Stop"), Reem Morsi ("Lips"), and Loretta Todd ("Monkey Beach'), and Pei-based, Jenna MacMillan is developing a new web series, ("Gran Bandit").

“These filmmakers are already established in their own right,” says Carol Whiteman, award-winning Widc producer. “They have won awards and fellowships, some from our collaborating partners like Women In Film, the St John’s International Women’s Film Festival, and the Whistler Film Festival. Rosanna Arquette is set to topline the Canadian indie feature "The Signs of Living" for Breakthrough Films and Television says The Hollywood Reporter.

Arquette plays an inspirational TV show host and girlfriend of an aging rock star who's hit emotional rock bottom. Divana Ippoliti penned the script for the $2 million feature while Gail Harvey will produce and direct.

Shooting kicks off in the Spring, while the film will seek distribution at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival.

Toronto -- Rosanna Arquette is to topline "The Signs of Living," a Canadian indie movie from Breakthrough Films and Television and producer/director Gail Harvey.

The news comes two years after veteran TV producer Breakthrough launched a movie production arm, with former PolyGram Filmed Entertainment and Norstar Filmed Entertainment executive Marina Cordoni in charge as executive producer.

In "The Signs of Living," Arquette is to play an inspirational TV show host and girlfriend of an aging rock star who's hit emotional rock bottom.

Production on the $2 million feature, based on a script by Divana Ippoliti, is set for spring 2011. No word on additional casting.

Cordoni will shop the Arquette-starring drama at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival with an eye to securing U.S. and European presales.
