10 Scream Legacy Characters Who Need To Return For Sidney's Next Ghostface Battle In Scream 7
Image
Neve Campbell will reprise her role as Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, opening the door for the possible return of other legacy characters. Quite a few characters from the Scream franchise are still alive, including Sidney's father Neil Prescott. Legacy characters like Kirby Reed could also provide essential aid to Sidney when Ghostface strikes again.

There are quite a few Scream franchise legacy characters who would be perfect to star alongside Sidney in Scream 7. Neve Campbell, who played consummate final girl Sidney Prescott in the first five movies of the slasher franchise, has announced that she will be returning to reprise her role in the new movie. The actor had previously declined to return in the sixth installment, which was released in 2023, after receiving an offer that she said "did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise."

The upcoming Scream 7 faces similar behind-the-scenes issues.

Nobody did better with horror franchises than Wes Craven, who reinvigorated the genre in this relentlessly bloody thriller. Its self-referential gimmick should have been exploited decades before: what if the teenagers in movies were like real teenagers that watch horror movies. . . and that must rely on their movie knowledge when confronted with R-rated carnage? 25 years later the show holds up well, at least until the final revelations. Kevin Williamson’s screenplay and Mark Irwin’s camerawork make Drew Barrymore, Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and Rose McGowan the most attractive and intelligent horror scream queens since Peggy Cummins tried to kick some sense into Dana Andrews.

MTV's 'Scream': Bella Thorne to Recreate Drew Barrymore Scene
Drew Barrymore in Scream (1996)
MTV's Scream series may not be using the iconic Ghostface Killer mask, but it will recreate one of the original Scream film's most remembered scenes. In 1996, it came as a shock to audiences when Drew Barrymore didn't make it past the opening act, as she was set up to be the star of the movie. She was dispensed rather quickly by the main slasher. Now, MTV has gotten another big star, and it's confirmed that this same opening act will be used once again to kickstart this small screen reboot.

Disney mega-star Bella Thorne stated that she has been secretly cast by MTV for this homage to the original Wes Craven horror classic during a Facebook chat on Yahoo! Celebrity. Bloody Disgusting was later able to confirm this report. About appearing in the show, Bella Thorne stated:

"Yes it is true. i will re-enact the famous scene of drew barrymore in the original series.

The John Bensalhia Column: Scream of the crop
So here is a slight change of pace – I'll be branching out into other areas apart from Doctor Who, including film franchises, TV shows and comedies. How's about kicking off with a scary movie series then? Newbies be warned – there are so many spoilers in this article, that Doctor Who's River Song would explode with smug rage.

By the middle of the 1990s, the horror film had seemingly died for good. Just like Dracula slowly rotting away to a skeleton, the horror genre had slowly ebbed away for the past decade or so. Hammer Horror classics from the 1960s and 1970s had given way to popular horror franchises in the 1980s such as Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street, but even by the mid-1990s, these had seemingly vanished into the ether. However, acclaimed director Wes Craven along with Kevin Williamson were to breathe new life into the rotting genre.
