The romantic drama, based on Sherryl Woods' novels of the same name, premiered on Netflix in 2020. The series released its most recent season on Feb. 6, 2025, and Netflix renewed Sweet Magnolias for Season 5. The new season is currently in production, and Tudum officially revealed that Season 5 will welcome new additions, including The Sopranos' Jamie-Lynn Sigler.

In the hit HBO series, which aired from 1999 to 2007, Sigler played Meadow Soprano, Tony's firstborn child. Since then, she starred in several other series, most recently in Big Sky. Now, she has lined up a new role in Sweet Magnolias.

Netflix has revealed the fate of one of its popular romance dramas almost three months after its season 4 finale. Get ready to pour it out and head back to Serenity. The Sweet Magnolias are coming back for season 5!

The streamer shared the news on World Book Day, which is fitting as the show is based on the novel series by author Sherryl Woods. Per a press release, Sweet Mags season 4 ranked in Netflix's Top 10 list in over 60 countries worldwide where the platform is available. This most likely contributed to the streaming service's decision to renew it. Even though the viewership numbers initially did come in on the lower end. The fifth season will be a total of 10 episodes.

Pass the margaritas, and keep them coming! Sweet Magnolias fans, we're getting some less than thrilling news from Netflix out of the streamer's most recent Top 10 viewership report. While two of its most recent action-packed original series continued to thrive, the latest season of the fan-favorite romantic drama series returned from its two-year hiatus with less than stellar numbers.

In its first three days of release during the week of Feb. 3-Feb. 9, Sweet Magnolias season 4 (which premiered on Feb. 6) brought in 4 million views globally, which translates to 33.7 million hours viewed. The series ranked in fourth place for the week behind The Night Agent season 2, The Recruit season 2, and American Manhunt: O.J. Simpson.

It's not every time we see a comfort show done quite as right as Sweet Magnoliasand our verdict is that it deserves to run forever. We certainly do hope Netflix shares the same sentiments because, to put it plainly, we need a Season 5. As teased in that Season 4 finale which dropped yesterday on Netflix, there is still more to explore in the lives of Serenity-based best friends: Maddie (JoAnna Garcia Swisher), Dana Sue (Brooke Elliott), and Helen (Heather Headley). Going into this latest season, the premise teased the pain of transition from past dreams to present ones – a challenge that we see hits the hardest for Maddie. Ahead of a hopeful Season 5 renewal, showrunner Sheryl J. Anderson has teased what the future could look like for Maddie.

Following the shocking revelation in the closing moments of Sweet Magnolias season 4 episode 2 that Bill had died, the third episode of the season finds the city of Serenity reeling from the unexpected death which sends shockwaves through the town. To say Bill was a complicated man is an understatement, so it’s of no surprise that his death has left his loved ones to deal with a mixed bag of emotions.
