The Sandman has now come to an end, with the season 2 finale delivering a pretty definitive conclusion to the story. Morpheus may be dead, but Dream of the Endless continues on, and co-creator Allan Heinberg is not completely ruling out the possibility of a third season.
With his realm in danger of being destroyed by the Fates, aka the Furies, aka the Kindly Ones, Morpheus ultimately decides to give his life to save the Dreaming, with Death taking her brother's hand in a flash of light. When Daniel Hall, the first child conceived in The Dreaming, grows to adulthood in order to fulfil his role as the new Dream Lord, we learn that the character is played by Jacob Anderson.
“I’m nothing but grateful at this point," Heinberg tells Variety. "If they came back tomorrow and said, ‘Let’s do a Season 3,’ I would do it instantly. I would...

It has been a fact so far that Netflix’s The Sandman will end with its second season, but co-creator and showrunner Allan Heinberg recently dropped a major bomb in his latest interview with Variety. Stating that he is pretty grateful for the reception they have received so far, he will be glad to make a third season. He remarked:
If they came back tomorrow and said, ‘Let’s do a Season 3,’ I would do it instantly. I would write this show for as long as they would let me. This show feels like all TV shows — like you can do anything. You can write about anything in the context of ‘The Sandman’ in funny ways and romantic ways and scary ways… I am very sad to see it go, because I can’t imagine anything else having the range that this show has: imaginary realms and time periods. I...

The final episodes of “The Sandman” Season 2 are all about ending one Dream and starting a new one.
After Season 2 Part 1 ended with Dream (Tom Sturridge) killing his son Orpheus (Ruari O’Connor) after being begged to for thousands of years, his choice to spill that family blood sparks the ire of The Kindly Ones. Familicide is a big no-no for the Endless — even when the one dying spent lifetimes asking for it — and the only punishment is death.
“The Sandman” showrunner Allan Heinberg told TheWrap that Dream welcomed his end because coming back from killing your child just isn’t feasible, but he needed to make sure his dream kingdom and its residents were safe before accepting his fate.
“I think he’s in a really tough spot, because once you kill your own son I don’t know how you get over it,” Heinberg said. “I just don’t think you ever do.

Netflix's The Sandman season 2 is the show's final season. While there's more than enough source material for the show to cover up to five seasons, the streamer only gave the team enough budget for 12 more episodes. However, the writers managed to condense the entire story into one more season, and that meant playing out the story's epic final arc.
In the final episodes, which cover volumes 9 and 10 of the comic, Dream faces punishment from the Furies after spilling family blood. In episode 6, he kills his son Orpheus (Ruairi O'Connor)—an act of love, putting him out of his misery. Ultimately, he faces his punishment and is killed by the Furies, but Dream of the Endless is reborn in the form of Daniel Hall, the child of Lyta and Hector, who was conceived in The Dreaming.

Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Sandman season 2, vol. 2.Netflix's The Sandman is almost at an end, and the final episode in the main storyline featured an unexpected cameo to help convey the series' themes of change and rebirth. The showrunner has commented on how lucky the production was to get this cameo, given the actor's busy schedule.
The Sandman season 2, vol. 2 depicts the fallout of Dream's (Tom Sturridge) decision to grant his son Orpheus' (Ruairi O'Connor) request, and end his life, leaving the King of Dreams to face the Kindly Ones in recompense for spilling family blood. Those who have read the comics know that this ultimately leads to the end of existence.

The final episodes of The Sandman are now streaming on Netflix, and the series concludes with a faithful adaptation of the longest (and many would say best) storyline from Neil Gaiman's seminal saga, "The Kindly Ones."
Spoilers ahead.
With his realm in danger of being destroyed by the Fates, aka the Furies, aka the Kindly Ones, Morpheus ultimately decides to give his life to save the Dreaming, with Death taking her brother's hand in a flash of light. The Sandman is dead, but another aspect of Dream must replace him: Daniel Hall, a child conceived in The Dreaming.
When the infant Daniel becomes an adult in order to fulfil his role as the new Dream Lord, we learn that the character is played by Jacob Anderson.
"Jacob’s being available was a miracle because I assumed he was busy with Interview with the Vampire," showrunner Allan Heinberg tells THR.

In a most powerful twist of the series, Game of Thrones star Jacob Anderson made a surprise appearance in the final episode of The Sandman season 2. Anderson plays Daniel Hall, Morpheus’s son, who becomes the new Dream of the Endless. His arrival comes right after the death of Morpheus, who sacrificed himself to save the Dreaming.
As the final confrontation nears, Dream (Tom Sturridge) acknowledges that he can no longer continue in his role. He confesses.
I killed my son twice. Once when I would not help him, and once when I did. I knew what I was doing. I knew what the cost would be. The Dreaming is no longer the same…

[This story contains major spoilers from season two, Vol. 2 of The Sandman.]
In his final episode of The Sandman, Lord Morpheus (Tom Sturridge) a.k.a. Dream of the Endless, the cosmic being who controls all dreams, delivers an ominous warning to his inner circle: “For the realm to survive, for each one of you to survive, any threat to the Dreaming must be destroyed.”
The most immediate threat to the land of dreams was, of course, none other than the supreme leader himself, whose decision to spill family blood by mercifully killing his only son, Orpheus (Ruairi O’Connor), drew the ire of a trio of goddesses known as the Furies. Adapted largely from The Kindly Ones, the penultimate collection of the creator Neil Gaiman’s Sandman comics, the second volume of the Netflix fantasy drama’s final season explores the consequences of Dream’s actions.

This article contains spoilers for "The Sandman."
With "The Sandman" season 2, volume 2 now streaming on Netflix, it's worth remembering the biggest sin of season 2, volume 1: the catastrophic mishandling of Wanda (Indya Moore).
Wanda was the first proper trans character introduced in the "Sandman" comics, and she'll always have a special place in my heart. As a kid reading "A Game of You," the fifth volume of the "Sandman" comics, she was the first trans character I'd seen who was treated like an actual person. Wanda is loyal and brave and occasionally rude, and she's also the best friend Barbie (who's technically the main character in that volume) could ever have.
In short, Wanda is a big part of what makes "A Game of You" one my favorite volumes of the "Sandman" comics. The comic books themselves are at their best when they focus on their human characters, and Wanda...

In my review of The Sandman Season 2 Volume 1, I said that Volume 2 would need to be colossally bad for me to relegate it to the pile of shows that were axed prematurely by Netflix for a variety of reasons. I was cautiously optimistic because, based on the streaming platform’s history, there aren’t a lot of shows out there that were forced to wrap up their story way too quickly and yet got to maintain their quality in terms of their visuals and storytelling. I mean, Arcane was an exception because, despite its haphazard screenplay, it looked stunning. But, as they say, the exception proves the rule. In addition to that, the allegations leveled against Neil Gaiman made it really difficult to separate the art from the artist. I had to put my mind on overdrive to convince myself that several people have poured their hearts and souls into this project,...

The Sandmanexecutive producer explains just what it means that Morpheus will be getting "rid of those chains" in Season 2.

David S. Goyer, the man who co-wrote Man of Steel with Christopher Nolan, just gave James Gunn’s Superman (2025) a big thumbs up, and that might surprise a lot of Snyder fans. After all, Man of Steel (2013) was famously darker and more grounded, the kind of Superman movie that had Jonathan Kent telling Clark to maybe let a bus full of kids drown, and had a climactic battle that turned Metropolis into a disaster zone. And yes, if you hated the tornado scene, Goyer and Nolan are the ones who wrote that, too. Zack Snyder just brought their script to life visually. So you’d think Goyer would hate Gunn’s take on Superman, which is basically the opposite in tone. But no. In fact, he loved it. Speaking to Cinemablend while promoting Netflix’s The Sandman (which he co-created with Neil Gaiman and Allan Heinberg), Goyer was quick to praise the 2025 reboot.

The Sandman's showrunner is opening up on why the show is ending after just two seasons and not for the reasons you'd expect!
Comic book adaptations on TV can be hit or miss for some projects. For every big success like the Arrowverse, there are multiple failures. The Sandman was an instant success when it debuted on Netflix in 2023, thanks in part to its rich source material.
The first season adapted the first story arcs of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed, award-winning DC/Vertigo Comics title that ran from 1989 to 1996. A century after being trapped in a prison, Morpheus, aka Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge), escapes and soon goes on a quest to reclaim his place and power as lord of dreams.
The show was a payoff to years of development hell that included a couple of failed movie adaptations. It was a monster success for Netflix to gain a second season.

Be warned: Spoilers for The Sandman Season 2 lie ahead...
Allan Heinberg, the showrunner behind the hit Netflix fantasy series The Sandman, has revealed why the show was so suddenly canceled and will end with its now streaming second season. But is this really the reason? Following a slew of sexual assault and misconduct allegations leveled at The Sandman creator Neil Gaiman, the series, which many had expected to continue beyond Season 2, was given just one more outing to wrap things up. However, according to Heinberg, this is not the reason why The Sandman is ending so soon.
Speaking to THR, Heinberg explained that, because of differences between the series and the comic book source material, namely that the events of the show center solely on Tom Sturridge’s Lord Morpheus, a.k.a. Dream, two seasons were all the showrunner ever planned to make.

[This story contains major spoilers from season two, volume one of The Sandman, as well as from the comics.]
At the start of the second season of Netflix’s hit fantasy drama series The Sandman, the Fates — a trio of goddesses consisting of the Maiden (Dinita Gohil), the Mother (Nina Wadia) and the Crone (Souad Faress) — delivered an ominous, ambiguous prophecy to the eldest Endless sibling, Destiny (Adrian Lester): “A king will forsake his kingdom. Life and death will clash and fray. The oldest battle begins once more.”
That prophecy will seemingly be fulfilled by the Sandman himself a.k.a. Dream of the Endless (Tom Sturridge), the powerful cosmic being who controls all dreams. After reclaiming the powers he had previously lost in captivity, destroying the dangerous dream vortex and unmaking the Corinthian at the end of the first season, the moody Morpheus has been quietly rebuilding his kingdom, the Dreaming, with an eye towards the future. But the...

The Sandman's second and final season on Netflix brings all the Endless family members together on-screen. The Endless are the physical manifestations of metaphysical concepts introduced as a family in The Sandman graphic novels, released by Vertigo in the 1990s. The Netflix series, created by Neil Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg, brings the ambitious DC comic to life, with Season 2 expanding the family ties of The Sandman even further.
After introducing several of the Endless in Season 1, The Sandman Season 2 continues Dream's story as he rebuilds his kingdom after being held captive for a century and reunites him with more of his family. The sprawling fantastical nature of The Sandman interweaves original characters with myths, legends, and pop culture, resulting in a complex array of characters who may have relationships that differ from what is expected.

One of the most immersive and brilliantly written fantasy shows of recent times has to be Netflix’s The Sandman and while it is coming to an end with its second season because of some behind-the-scenes controversies, fans are still looking forward to the upcoming batch of episodes. Based on the DC comic book of the same name by Neil Gaiman, Sam Kieth, and Mike Dringenberg, the Netflix series was developed by Gaiman, David S. Goyer, and Allan Heinberg.

The Sandman -- the cancelled DC Comics series currently airing on Netflix -- has finally returned for a second season. But both critics and audiences aren't enjoying the show's send-off as much as its first season.
The Sandman premiered on Netflix on Aug. 5, 2022 to critical acclaim and earned a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Seasom 1 has an 88% approval rating from critics and a similarly high audience score of 81%. Season 2 is performing considerably worse, at 75% and 72% respectively.
The Sandman's Season 2 reviews aren't very promising so far -- and if they dip much lower, the new season will be entering Rotten territory. Critic Melanie McFarland writes for Salon.com that "The second season’s opening episodes drag like an inescapable, non-refreshing Rem state." Even a more positive review of Season 2 comes with a word of caution. Ed Power of the UK's Daily Telegraph says, "The Sandman isn't for everyone. This is hardcore geek material -- portentous,...

The first six episodes of The Sandman Season 2 are now streaming on Netflix, but the sexual assault allegations against Neil Gaiman have cast a shadow over the premiere. Many fans have wondered how directly involved Gaiman was with the production of the final season, and showrunner Allan Heinberg addressed his role in an interview with TVLine.
“[Gaiman] was super busy. We talked less. But if I had a question, I could definitely call,” Heinberg explained. “He was involved in the casting of the Endless; that was very important. But in terms of the other characters, it moved too fast in order for us to involve him in the way that we had with the initial casting, which happened in prep. We were casting as we were shooting. So the whole thing just moved very quickly. And organically, because so much had already been established in Season 1, there was less of a...

Spoiler Alert: This article contains minor spoilers from “The Sandman” second and final season premiere, “Season of Mists,” now streaming on Netflix.
Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s “The Sandman” graphic novels opens its final season with a storyline near and dear to many fans: “Season of Mists.” It’s widely considered the most beloved volume from “The Sandman” franchise, and was a priority when it came to which storylines co-creators Gaiman, David Goyer and showrunner Allan Heinberg wanted to make sure were included in “The Sandman” Season 2. That was particularly true once it was decided this would be the conclusion of the TV series adaptation.
And at the center of this plot is Dream’s (Tom Sturridge) first love: Nada, queen of a tribe called the First People, who fell in love with Dream thousands of years before the events of “The Sandman” Season 1. But the show’s...

In interviews, I’m frequently asked if I can identify a grand theme running through my work. The truth is, I rarely think about whether a particular project fits within said theme when I’m in the middle of it. But just because I don’t consciously ponder it doesn’t mean that it isn’t percolating beneath the surface. And it’s only afterwards, when viewed through a more distant lens, that those subconscious themes become more obvious to me.
Let’s start with why I’m drawn to these big, ambitious genre projects. On a surface level, I believe science-fiction and fantasy work best when they function as mirrors reflecting back on our present condition. Dig deeper and I would tell you that I’m most interested in stories that ask what it means to be human—even when the main characters aren’t strictly human at all.

“The Sandman” returns to Netflix for a split second and final season; six episodes debut July 3 and the back six drop later in the month.
This may be a bit frustrating for the bingers out there, but take it from someone who’s seen the first half dozen: they have more than enough profound themes, character developments and batshit oddities to savor and ponder for weeks to come.

With The Sandman’s second and highly enchanting season now showing its first part on Netflix, many may be curious about the extent to which Neil Gaiman was involved in its development. Gaiman is well known as the author of the titular comic book series published by DC Comics, and he played a major role in bringing Season 1 of the fantasy production to life. However, that was way before the allegations of sexual assault against him, which he has consistently denied. Now, showrunner Allan Heinberg, in an interview with TVLine, is shedding light on the author’s involvement in The Sandman’s second season, which is also the final run for the show.

Three years is a long gap between the first and second seasons of a show, but season two of Netflix’s The Sandman was plagued with delays, from the SAG/WGA strikes to allegations against its creator. Well worth the wait, The Sandman season 2 offers more of the strange adventures that fans came to love about the show.
The Sandman Season 2, Volume 1 Review
Adapted from the DC Comics that ran from 1989 to 1996, The Sandman follows Dream, one of the Endless and ruler of the Dreaming, as he must reconcile with his past misdeeds to protect his kingdom. Confirmed to be the last season of the show, Netflix and the show’s creators, David S. Goyer and Allan Heinberg, have promised that this batch of twelve episodes will conclude Dream’s arc. Although this is an incredibly ambitious undertaking (whether out of design or necessity), this first batch of episodes gets off to an encouraging start.

Neil Gaiman had limited involvement in Season 2 of his Netflix drama The Sandman, and allegations of sexual assault against him occurred so late in the production process that they had little bearing on the episodes that start streaming Thursday, showrunner Allan Heinberg says.
If you’re unfamiliar with the controversy at hand, here’s a quick catch-up. Netflix greenlit Sandman‘s sophomore run in November 2022. Netflix is shutting the doors to The Residence, cancelling its murder mystery series after just one season, TVLine has confirmed. (Freshman drama Pulse has also been canceled.)
The Residence starred Uzo Aduba as quirky detective Cordelia Cupp, who uses her cunning intellect and obsessive bird-watching abilities to crack otherwise unsolvable cases. The show’s first (and now only) season sent Cordelia to the White House, where she solved the murder of Chief Usher A. B. Wynter, played by Giancarlo Esposito.

Prepare to meet several new characters when The Sandman returns for its second and final season this summer.
In the coming episodes, Dream (Tom Sturridge) reunites with his Endless family and is faced with one impossible decision after another as he attempts to save himself, his kingdom, and the waking world from the epic fallout of his past misdeeds.
“We are excited to introduce the rest of the Endless family,” showrunner, executive producer, and writer Allan Heinberg told Netflix. “The cast of The Sandman is one of the best acting ensembles I’ve ever worked with — the loveliest people who very quickly became a family, on-screen and off. We were very lucky that our casting directors, Lucinda Syson and Natasha Vincent, worked overtime to find exactly the right people to fit into our existing family. Dream’s upbringing and the way he interacts with his family deepened our understanding of...

There are many reasons why The Sandman stood out in front of others in its genre. Despite being an extension of the DC Universe and existing within the fantasy genre, the atmosphere that it creates for its viewers was unique in a way fans had not seen before. It told a complex story with extremely high stakes and impressive characters that haven’t been used very frequently by the Dcu.
Given the series’s success, it is not surprising that fans have been waiting for an update, especially with the release of its second season just around the corner. Thankfully, Allan Heinberg recently revealed that it is taking a page out of Marvel’s book on Norse mythology.

After a three-year hiatus, Netflix‘s The Sandman returns for Season 2 on Thursday, July 3. The season is split into two volumes and one bonus episode, all set to come out in July. The show has been shrouded in the dark cloud of the sexual assault allegations against creator Neil Gaiman, who was involved in story development for Season 2. The series has not been renewed for Season 3 as of the time of publication, and there aren’t currently plans to come back for more. Starring Tom Sturridge as Dream of the Endless and based on the Gaiman comics of the same name, The Sandman was a huge hit for Netflix when it first debuted in 2022. But The Sandman Season 3 is most likely not going to happen. Here’s why. Is The Sandman Season 3 happening? The showrunner of The Sandman, Allan Heinberg, made it clear long before The Sandman Season 2 premiere that...
